This evening I drove all the way to North Vancouver for a long table meal at “Louis Gervais'” cafe and catering workspace; and it was worth the effort. Here I got to learn a little more about the Chef behind the business. How he originally hails from Montreal, and has accumulated over 40 years of experience. He moved to Vancouver when he was 20 to help open the “Wedgewood Hotel” as an executive sous chef. And rest of his resume was as impressive, working in several well known kitchens and winning a few culinary competitions here and there.
Louis is great! They've got a great selection and amazing salads. Also home to one of my favorite sandwiches...the mushroom and goat cheese panini.
Really like it- had a roast beef sandwich, salad and Americano coffee. Total came to $15 after tax... I think that's alright. Flavor though was amazing. One of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I'm glad I visited!!
Wedding Catering. Louis Gervais catered our wedding of about 50 people this past December (2011). It was FANTASTIC!
We had our wedding at my parents house and we were nervous about fitting everyone in and making sure that Louis' staff had the space they needed without disturbing our guests. Heather, the coordinator, made everything perfect and it gave us great peace of mind to have her helping us. She helped us plan the menu, arranged the table and chair rentals, organized the serving staff and made sure everything was on schedule. She made everything a breeze. Everyone fit comfortably for dining and the kitchen staff were so quiet even though they were serving up all the food hot and fast. As soon as dinner was done the staff had all the tables and chairs up and out of the way for dancing. The food was spectacular! From the appetizers to the dessert it was so good. Everyone especially loved the beet cubes and the veggie risotto.
I cannot recommend Louis Gervais, his awesome food and staff enough!
I LOVE THE PESTO MAYO!. This past weekend, my sister and I were visiting Spa Utopia in North Vancouver. We were very early, so we thought we would pop into this cute cafe across the street with big red umbrellas and cute cafe tables on the patio out front. We were expecting some little coffee shop that server pre-bought snacks and average coffee. To our surprise, it was a catering company! You can see the chefs working away in the open concept kitchen. So cool! Anyways, we ended up sharing a few items that were mouth watering! The savory scone was the best I have ever had.The Roasted Chicken sandwich with pesto mayo on a baguette was soooo delicious, and the homemade sea salted potato chips were amazing too. Yum! The coffee was organic, fair trade espresso which was unexpected as well. This was defiantly a little hidden gem that I will be returning to as soon as I can:)
Oui..Fine it is. If you enjoy real food made real good by people who care, you will enjoy this spot thoroughly. The sandwiches are so flavourful and the desserts are pretty amazing...no exaggeration! My mate said his sirloin sandwich was the best he has had....he's a sandwich guy! The space is clean and very comfortable and the service from the young lady with long brown hair on this Saturday was exceptional from beginning to end. They were short of staff apparantly, but I had no idea. I thought two fifty for a mug of the fair trade coffee was kinda high at first, but there are refills so it's really not too bad. 2 delicious & creative sandwiches with handmade chips, coffee, pop and a gorgeous dessert to share was all under 30 bucks. Fantastic first experience here and we will be back. I overheard some regulars talk about the great soups!
Tasty Roast Chicken Sandwich & Potato Salad. The Roast Chicken Sandwich you can get here, off the regular menu is second to none. It's combined with fresh bread (yes, it does make the difference and it's proper bread) and a tasty Pesto Mayo. Great balance of flavour.
Also, if you're lucky enough to walk in on the day they have it, get a Potato Salad with Bacon! Very morish.
Yummy, delicious food. Go for a walk along the water and then sit on the patio outside Louis Gervais and enjoy flavours and textures that satisfy everything you could want. The staff are wonderful, the meals are to die for and watching the prep in the open kitchen is a lot of fun. But mainly it is the food. The flavours are amazing and original and just have the taste buds humming. The desserts are yummy and if you don't have time the chocolate cupcakes are great to take home! I visit often and still don't get enough. Give it a try! You'll enjoy!
