Review Cafe By Tao - North Vancouver

A good place to go if you like to try something new, actually the food is not bad at all, while nothing surprised me. Baked cauliflower has depth in taste, it mixed with bitter, sour, spicy & a bit sweet, very impressive. For other dishes, meat itself were all well cooked, but too flat & light if go without sauce, the pickles was great though. Nang was warm, good. We ordered bison steak, which is full of wild flavour but a little bit hard to chew as it is lack of fat. Side dishes are wonderful. Service is pretty nice, portion seems not big at the beginning but in fact it is more than enough. Price is very fair.

I have heard a lot about Nuba and was excited to finally try it. They have a feast option on their menu (meat or vegetarian) and this allows you to try a few different things and to share at your table. The feast platter is sized based on the size of your party. The food was vibrant and delicious. They have really great vegetarian options as well and a great drink menu.

A friend highly recommended this place, we went there for early dinner. The service was great and the restaurant is quiet spacious. We didn’t have to wait too long for our order to arrive. We loved loved everything that we ordered, specially the hummus. It was so fresh and we couldn’t stop eating. Will definitely recommend this place to others and keep visiting.

My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner and absolutely loved the food! The service was decent and timely. The disappointing piece for us was that the music seemed really disjointed with the style of the restaurant. Having cultural Lebanese music would have really added to the atmosi, rather than what seemed like British pop music.

Before I start my praise I would like to point out 3 major flaws with the restaurant. 1. The dips come out the same time as all the food. - It is true that dips are supposed to come out before the mains because this keeps people happy until the food comes out and is easy to prepare. - I deemed this important to the discussion as it may negatively affect the first half of your dinning experience. 2. The service is mid. - This is true as the waiters would almost avoid eye contact and sometimes forget requests. - it is important to note this as the service is a key part of enjoying a meal and justifies the restaurant as a place to dine. 3. The "rack of lamb" was not a rack - This is true as it was simply 3 cutlets of lamb and not a rack. - This is important to note as the "rack" was around $40 and for that kind of price you would expect a rack, this leads onto a bigger issue of overall small serving sizes for the price. Now onto my substantive Much like the blind man I helped cross the road as I entered the restaurant, I feel the restaurant is on track but just needs some guidance to reach a good point, the food was pretty good and there was great atmosphere, only the experience is effected by my previous point. In conclusion a nice place to go with friends but don't expect ant michelin stars. Nice hummus though.

The food took a really long time, but tasted good. I like how they cook fresh and how they source their food. The interior was just okay and the staff were great. I would give it 3.5 stars if I can but not 4.

Definitely a good place to grab a bite if you’re in gastown! I’ve not been one for Lebanese dishes, but the food here is absolutely fantastic. The chicken dishes are particularly great and their plating is on point!

Fresh and delicious! Service was also great. I would definitely go back and highly recommend it. We ordered the vegetarian sharing platter and we ate every last bit!

Hands down....best Vegan food in town!! I've been to LA and sampled over half a dozen Vegan places there too and TAO is a step up again for me. Well done to all involved :D

I love this place! Healthy, quick and amazing - do yourself a favour and come try it out just once. Before Tao you wouldn't of caught me eating raw food, now I try to swing by at least once a week! Thanks again!

Yes. We,re Eating Again.
One lovely afternoon, just prior to the start of spring, Vanfoodster's Plant Based Bowl Challenge took us to the North Shore and Tao Organics and Cafe. One thing that they definitely have going for them is a nice little outdoor eating area for when the weather is fine. Their Challenge offering was Falafel Mango Salsa Vegetabowl and let me start by saying that chunks of mango and cherry tomatoes while being tasty, are not salsa. It was a sprouted quinoa bowl with few lonely pea sprouts. There were a few falafel balls but they were not amazing. The macadamia dill cream cheese was tasty. Maybe just a little too much like what I might eat at home. We had the small size so I think we paid about $11 for it but it will not be winning any challenges. We also tried a Butternut Squash Wrap and the wrap itself (the source of the squash) was quite good. Inside were kelp noodles (these got my attention), miso-tahini spread, a wee bit of avocado and some misc peppers and such. Could have used a bit more spread. Still not blowing my mind here but not too expensive at $6.40. The folks behind the counter were friendly enough but not exactly speedy. Service is counter order and pickup. I will never pay $8.60 for any of their cold pressed juices or other organic what nots but obviously some people do. Tao Organics and Cafe is probably the greatest place in the world to some people just not my partner and I.

I ordered the Rawkin' Pizza, Rawsagna, the wrap, Lucuma Cake, Acai Cake, Chocolate cake, and Mesquite cake to go. I agree that the Rawsagna does not worth $9; it tastes just okay. I like the special crust of the pizza (sprouted buckwheat crust) and the wrap skin (Kale Spirulina). The cakes taste healthy - not sweet while you can taste the flavours. I would say the desserts worth the price but the food is not. The service is okay - the women inside the kitchen seem more friendly than the cashier but the cashier did pack my take-out nicely. They seem to have more drinks than food. It is really just an okay vegan cafe compare to other vegan cafes in Vancouver.

The rating is only for the food. I ordered the rawsagna (vegan lasagna). The portion is so puny for almost $10. My colleague was making fun of the portion size for the amount I paid. The taste though is excellent. I normally don't eat vegetables but I have to say the lasagna is absolutely delicious and the quality is really fresh and excellent. After eating it, I was still hungry. For the portion, you have to order at least 3 portions to be mostly full. The price is quite expensive for puny portion. If you count the price also, I would give it a 2.5 stars.

Lemon Ginger Magic ($4) is a 12oz hot drink using cold-pressed juices combined with hot water. Apparently unlimited honey (self-serve) is available at the counter. I found the drink somewhat bitter and also lacking ginger bite. I tried some honey but probably put too much because it then tasted like lemonade with ginger notes.

When I get ground down in terms of energy and vitality due to my workload, Tao is my reset button. I go have an incredibly healthy meal that I couldn't possibly make myself without research/raw food classes, and dropping a small fortune on organic/raw ingredients at Whole Foods... After my meal I load up on the fresh, organic juices, having renewed my resolve not to take my health for granted!

Good for a snack. It's raw vegan so being limited they do a good job of providing flavour however for the price the portions are small. So a lunch that was never cooked ends up being 16 bucks. So i like it but wouldnt go at the price point when there are other options 100 ft away

Blown away!. Was researching some vegan friendly restaurants in the Lower Mainland (since recently becoming vegetarian) and came across this place online. The menu looked incredible and naturally I had to stop by. I was running a little late and it was literally 8:57pm the time I arrived; luckily they were still open. I had a hard time deciding what smoothie to get because of the AMAZING choices, but I ended up getting the Chocorific smoothie which was so thick and delicious! I also got a slice of the Raw Acai Berry Banana raw cheesecake which was a great deal for only $3:50 a slice. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at Tao and I will certainly will be back for more soon!
I wish I had a photo to share of my order but let's be real: when the foods THAT good who has time to take a photo? Haha!

Wonderful!. Whether you're vegan or not (I am, BF is vegetarian), you will most definitely appreciate the colourful, healthy, delicious food! The owner is so, so sweet and all of the staff are very friendly. Dine in, take out, or pick up some kale chips on your way home. Love this place and the parvati rolls are a fav!

Not impressed. A small cafe where the food was just ordinary. I certainly don't mind paying a lot of money for great food but this was just cheap fast food. not very tasty at all. I really wanted to like this little place but we won't go there again.

Raw goodness!. Really love this place. The cafe is peaceful, and the food is delicious. The desserts and crackers are all super tasty -- and, importantly, the juices are MADE TO ORDER. Now that's a juice bar extraordinaire.

Also, I took one of the owner's cooking classes, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking at getting into raw food preparation!

We followed the Tao.... Can't say enough good things about this place. My boyfriend and I were visiting North Van, and another restaurant we were going to go to didn't work out as planned. My boyfriend casually said "Well, we'll just follow the Tao..." (just go with the flow and let whatever restaurant we come across be the one we go to). Funny enough, we ended up going to Cafe by Tao, and the service was amazing and so was the food and atmosphere. It's cozy, bright, and friendly - and all the food there is nutritious and raw!

And if you go there, make sure you get the chocolate "please" cake at some point - just thinking about it makes my mouth water!
