Review Hachi Hana - North Vancouver

Chloe Rachel
Extensive menu, with service being prompt and friendly. A friend had the Yam Salad Roll with no complaints - it came heaping with shredded yam on top and was more than ample for lunch! The Spinach and Chopped Scallop Rolls were tasty. The restaurant is a good neighborhood eatery for Japanese fare and has a makeshift patio, perfect for the summer!

Overall a great Sushi place Good variety of rolls, sashimi and nigiri. Portions are good with reasonable price. Nigiris were great which shows the great quality. The rolls were not as great though only because it was too saucy. The sauce taste was basically taking over.

Very good sushi and seafood udon. But the blue fin tuna sashimi that I got was the best! Excellent service!

The plating was immaculate, and the food wa so delicious! The miso soup was the best I've had anywhere, and the Chicken Teriyaki bowl was super tasty! 😋

Almost five star. Had the lunch bentos. Portions were good, all fish cuts were great and generous. Very good quality. Good tempura. However... The rolls were not great. More like grocery store quality and didn't eat more than a few of them. However... That may be a one off and the rest of it made up for it. Still, this should be 4.5 stars. I'll give them another shot though.

Great food, friendly and quick service. Very clean and always very attentive to your orders and needs. Even the kitchen staff greets you when you arrive. Such a great atmosphere. Thank you so much. Love going there.

Had good memories of top quality sushi from here in the past, but stopped in for lunch last week and was quite disappointed. Sushi in bento box was unbelievably dry and almost tasteless. Spicy Tuna rolls tasted of the greens inside and were over-sauced. Have heard of coworkers' similar disappointments here. Shame.

Really good fresh sushi and tasty chicken karage. Enjoyed that the spicy roll sauce wasn’t mayo based and had good flavor. Great service as well ! Very nice presentation of all dishes.

It was time for dinner with Biscotti! We decided on going back to Hachi Hana Japanese Restaurant, after having some decent takeout from here last year. Hachi Hana is located in North Vancouver on Lonsdale. Parking may be difficult depending on the time you come, but there is underground paid parking in the Whole Foods if you can’t find street parking.

Excellent sushi. The chefs know what they are doing here.
We love Hachi Hana and are regular customers. It’s our favourite sushi place in North Vancouver for a quick casual meal.
Sushi made with care and attention. Everything we have ordered from bento box to teriyaki to rice bowl to sashimi to sushi has been beautifully presented and delicious. I recommend the Stegosaurus Roll. Service is great. Small place so expect a wait during lunch and dinner rush.

I grew up in North van and I remember the first day this place opened up. It's a popular place for sushi here and all the locals come here. The prices are reasonable but it's definitely not authentic. It is Korean owned. I would say it's a pass but not the greatest if your looking for real sushi. It tastes more like fast food sushi to me.

I usually get the chirashi don because I like the variety. Nothing special but it does get your sushi fix done quickly.
Quite possibly the best sushi I have had lately. Good service, good ambience, aesthetically pleasing and delicious. What more could you want.

Over the holidays I had a number of close friends return to town to visit family. One of my close group of friends all originally hail from North Vancouver, so I made a couple of trips over the bridge to visit them on their home turf. And I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. North Van (or more specifically Lonsdale) has some not so terrible night life. Having lived in the Vancouver area for my entire life you’d think that I would know this by now. But I’d just written off North Van along with all the rest of suburbia. At one point I even caught myself thinking that I could see myself living in Lonsdale. But that illusion was quickly shattered when I had to wait almost half an hour for the sea bus to bring me back downtown. Nooooope. Never going to happen.

Come and check this place! Really tasty food, everything is not expensive. I recommend you to try BBQ Salmon Toro.
I like their style of cooking. Now they have a new menu!

Sadly the food doesn't reflect the hype. Every roll that we had fell apart upon picking it up. The Agadeshi Tofu batter was soggy. Like it had been sitting under the heat lamp. Ditto for the Tempura. Service was good, prompt and friendly. But, for the price and the quality, we will not be going back there anytime soon.

Hachi Hana is Korean-operated and is one of the most popular sushi restaurants on Lonsdale Ave. I first visited Hachi Hana a few years ago and found their prices to be some of the lowest in the area. Since then, the prices have increased considerably, but so have the portion sizes. Well, the price increases sure worked because the restaurant was full of diners during prime dinner time on a Tuesday evening

The place to go in North Van. This place really knows how to pay attention to detail to their dishes. I've been here a couple of times, and it seems like the type of place where every dish you try will be yummy. For example, the standard salmon maki, tastes the same from place to place, right? Nope, who knew it could taste so much better? I want to try all their sushis now! There are a lot of cheaper Japanese restaurants in Vancouver, but you pay for what you get - Hachi Hana is the place to go.

Delicious. Spicy Dynamite Roll was very tasty, Chicken Katsu and Prawn Udon was great. the cut of Tuna on the nigiri was very nice with a pink hue to it. Attentive service and reasonable prices.

Best authentic Japanese in NV for the money. All of their food is excellent and a cut above the rest. They put more ingredients in their donburi and udon bowls than anywhere else I've been - and it's all quality, cooked to perfection. The service is top notch. Unlike most Japanese restaurants in North Van, they are actually Japanese, and it really shows through the quality and presentation of their food, the atmosphere and cleanliness of the restaurant, and the politeness of the staff. Prices are very fair - noodle and rice bowls on par with cheaper "Japanese" restaurants, sushi is a bit more expensive, but the fish is always of excellent quality so that is totally acceptable! My only gripes are the limited number of tables, and they are closed on Sundays.

Very good quality, tight rolls that don't fall apart (unlike Sushi Town) and cheap, almost as cheap as sushi town which is my boyfriend and I's usual spot :) it's nice and quite too, recommended for sure!

Fresh sashimi for once! Amazing food. So usually I dont write reviews but this place was delicious enough that I think it deserves one! So first of all i've tried nearly every single sushi place in north van and a couple in vancouver and this has got to be the best. Their sashimi is ALWAYS fresh, rolls perfectly sized, reasonable prices, and just good old fashioned authentic japanese food. I was pleasantly surprised considering how many sushi places are on lonsdale. But man it was delicious. Recommend it to anyone.
The cute white waitress that works there wasnt too bad either lol :) service was great
definitely gonna let all my friends know about this gem. Check it out!

One of the best Sushi Restaurant in North Van. My first time writing a review...and I have to say that this one is well earned. Hachi Hana is one of my favorite sushi restaurant on the North Shore because 1.) they have never screwed up my order, 2.) they have my name recorded on their system so they automatically know it's me ordering 3.) they are clean and you can tell their food is well made 4.) they serve the typical food and occassionally some special rolls but I noticed that their avocado rolls are always made with fresh avocados, and their salmon rolls are fresh as well, and their appetizers are well made too. I've never complained of any food I ordered from them, so I say that counts too. Last but not least it's a convenient walk from my work.

Best Yam sushi. I love this place! Great location, easy walking distance to my work and place. I love their yam sushi roll, they add mushroom to it, and it gives it a nice boost of flavor. I love their spicy dynamite roll as well! You can tell they really care and it's their passion to make sushi!!

Hachi Hana is amazing. When I put the first dragon roll in my mouth i instantly got a massive erection. It was amazing, the best erection I have ever had. The sushi was soooo good and the seats where so comfy it made me orgasm on impact when sitting down.

Wow... We came based on reviews and was very disappointed. Katsu is much better. A Costco hotdog would've been more tasty than the sushi here. Not sure how they got 400 likes, I guess people like rolls that all taste the same. Enjoy...

Amazing good, OK service. We ordered deluxe sashimi. Salmon sashimi, Pacific roll, and a couple sushi. Everything was great, sashimi was fresh. Service was slow.

I'm so glad that I found this place. My boyfriend is a sushi lover and I can't go with him because I don't eat fish so this place saved our relationship. Lol. They have the best vegetarian sushi I've ever tried (trust me, I have tried a lot). The sushi is wrapped in soy instead of seaweed. I just loved it. The beef tataki and gyoza are fantastic and tempura is delicious too. My favourite restaurant.

Manager. Hi im the manager of this restaurant i would like to delete the photos of the menu because we have made a new one! some customers are complaining that we have a wrong menu thanks!

Got a dragon roll and spicy tuna to go. Oh man was it good. The dragon roll looked huge and i was worried it was going to be one of those "chef creations" covered in japanese mayo and fish flakes that is like eating japa dog rather than sushi. But i was super happy that this mega honking roll had such a nice balance. It was awesome. Cant wait to go back.

The best sushi place!. I have been going here for the past 5 years. I love this place. I have introduced Hachi Hana to all my friends and they all love it. Great service, great food, great prices. The quality of sashimi is magnificent and the portions are generous. This place deserves all the great reviews it has received.

Pleasant Surprise!. Hachi Hana looks like a ton of other casual Japanese places, but it's an excellent choice if casual Japanese is what you're after. The sashimi and other fish were fresh and came with shiso, rolls were cut into nice bite-sized pieces, gomae was good, prawn & vegetable tempura pieces were crispy and light. The miso was just okay, but the rolls were great.

I love this place, I've been here 3x and it is my favorite. Everything is fresh, tasty, and fairly priced. The sashimi (yellow tail and salmon) were amazing.

My go-to place for sushi. I really like this place. The prices are decent and the food delicious! The service is great too. I also like the vibe at this place. It is my go-to place whenever I feel like sushi. Everything seems fresh. Another key aspect to this place is consistency- whenever I go back and order something I have tried and liked in the past, it tastes the same.

Only Okay. I found the service to be very fast, but at the expense of quality. The tuna was very good and the ice cream was unique and delicious. Mango and the green tea flavours were both really good. If you order one of the boxes, it is a good size portion enough to share. They mixed up our order and brought chicken instead of beef. They fixed our order right away and let us keep both. On the down side the beef and chicken tasted reheated. We had to ask to order desert, it was not even suggested by the waiter. It was not a complete disappointment but I expected better.

Best North Shore Sushi HANDS DOWN.. I have been a loyal customer of the Hach for a couple of years now and it never dissapoints. Beautifully presented, very fresh sushi with generous portions (wild salmon & tuna sashimi) Fusion rolls are delicious, the Dragon roll will change your life. The chefs now smile at me and my sushi loving friend when we come in, as I think they are astonished at the sheer volume of sushi two girls can consume in less than an hour.
Redbopple
Favourite Japanese. This is the best Japanese food we have discovered on the North Shore to date.

Very fresh. I went here for lunch today while working for a short time in North Vancouver with a few colleagues who are regulars here. It was full at lunchtime but service was attentive and we were offered tea refills at regular intervals. I had one of the Sushi combos with a California Roll (lovely thinly julienned crab, not soaked in mayo as is the case at many sushi restaurants), 2 pieces each of salmon and tuna nigiri. The fish over top the nigiri was plentiful and deliciously fresh.
So don't let the unassuming appearance of this place fool you- these guys know their sushi!

Best sushi i've had in north shore. This beats the other places, on taste, service, authenticity.
Mama Bear
I think I just had the best chirashi don on the north shore!! It was unbelievably fresh!!
Emily
Best sushi on North Shore.

A good spot despite being small. I'm never disappointed when coming here. Bathroom is suspect, but otherwise good.
Jessica
Spicy tuna sauce was great. Disappointed in the Alaska roll and portion size of the miso soup.
DLR
Excellent!. By far one of my favourite restaurants on the north shore. Beautiful sashimi, thickly cut, simply delicious!
Andrew Vincent
All I have to say is.....Alaska roll. Think Lox bagle in sushi form. Just thinking about Hachi makes my eyes roll to the back of my head and collapse in to a blackout of flavor. (don't want to over sell it or anything. )

Excellent Sushi. There's a lot of competition on Lonsdale. Hachi Hana certainly isn't the cheapest, but has excellent quality sushi.
Laura Alexandra
Hurricane roll!!! - make a reso or you may not get a table, this place fills up fast.

Sheepie’s acquaintance had mentioned that Hachi Hana was pretty good, so we went to North Van to check it out. When we arrived to the Korean-run restaurant, it was only half full, but shortly after, it was full house at 7:30pm. Soon, there were people waiting at the door, and some even walked away because they didn’t want to wait. I wanted something light, so I ordered the Vegetable Udon $7.95. It was pretty good, though a tiny bit heavy on the soy sauce (salty). But good portion with lots of veggies. Vegetable Udon $7.95 Sushi Combo $10.95 Sheepie complained of his California rolls being dry, falling apart and not tasting that good of his Sushi Combo (8pcs California Roll & 2pcs Tuna, 2pcs Salmon) $10.95. For the portion and quality, it was way overpriced. The service and atmosphere was good, but the food didn’t wow us. Because of the location, it’s unlikely that we’ll go there again, but if we are, there are so many other places that we haven’t tried on Lonsdale so

The raw fish was another pleasant surprise. These were not scraps and ends; these were proper sashimi pieces cut up to a size so that they could be more easily mixed with the other ingredients. Every single variety of the fish felt fresh, and I loved that they included raw squid (cuttlefish?) as well as cooked octopus along with the standard salmon and tuna.
Mcintosh_missy
Walking in at around 1:30, the place was packed- I take that as a good sign since there is pretty much a sushi joint on every block of Lonsdale, so there are plenty of other options in the neighbourhood.
