Very good food and very nice staff finally found our new Chinese restaurant by home. Order two types of chow main and one was a special order that they got perfect, the ginger beef could have been a bit spicier but my daughter loved it and she hates anything new. Very fast as well, said 20mins and it was exactly 20mins when I picked up, no waiting.
Ho Fong was chosen for dinner, after an afternoon medical appointment in New Westminster the other day. This was our first dining experience at the restaurant, we (as a threesome) arrived about 4:30pm, and when we left, felt delighted we had chosen to try it.
The restaurant really offered no particular surprises in terms of its physical nature, ambiance, and food offerings. It's a small place, and for us, had the quite typical 'look and feel' of most of the smaller Chinese restaurants we have seen and dined in throughout The Lower Mainland -- a good thing, as we prefer the small, very casual, family-owned and operated restaurants. The menu brought back fond memories as well -- although we had not dined at a Chinese restaurant for other than dim sum, in quite some time, it was comforting to see some familiar fare listed once again - and we were ready!
Service was prompt and friendly throughout our meal.
What we ordered, and shared (items as listed on the menu): all dishes were of large, very generous size, looked and tasted so fresh, and were brought to our table piping hot, with their wonderful aromas from the kitchen.
-- Appetizer (#4): honey and garlic chicken wings - large wing pieces, plump and tender, and the sauce with its honey & garlic, so flavourful and aromatic!!
-- Beef (#33): crispy ginger beef (Szechuan-style) - dry beef, in a hot and spicy sauce - a decent preparation, the beef was tender and flavourful, the ginger flavour though, a little lacking, but the sauce had a decent 'bite' to it, and certainly perked the taste buds!
-- Pork (#39): dry garlic boneless spareribs - a fine preparation, the lightly-coated meat so tender, flavourful, aromatic, and tasty!!
-- Seafood (#63): seafood chop suey - another fine preparation, with a nice selection of seafoods (which included fish and other seafoods), and veggies, very well-prepared, a taste delight!!
-- Chow Mein (#100): bbq pork chow mein - typical chow mein fare, decently-prepared, and enjoyed.
In summary: good food, friendly/delightful service -- we enjoyed our dinner dining experience at Ho Fong!!
Canadian-Chinese family style home cooking. This is a kid friendly family favorite of ours, it has all the classics like deep fried wontons, sweet and sour pork, ginger beef and chicken chow mein everything runs on the sweet side perfect for kids, even the "hot and spicy" dishes are in my opinion medium at the tops. The deep fry always tastes clean and the veggies are fresh. The portions are certainly intended for family sized meals, our family of 5 normally can't finish 3 dishes although we always have steamed rice which we don't count as an actual dish. Authentic Chinese I think not but there is nothing shameful about enjoying east west once in a while.
