Review The Castle Neighbourhood Grill - New Westminster

Well let the rave begin. The hubby drives by everyday on his way to work both had no idea all these years it was there & so we drove out from Mission to try this place out. We were greated with welcoming open arms, our server Sylvia was an absolute gem. We had a small wait for our starter & so she offered to take us on a tour of the building. Some areas not accessible at this time but what she was able to show us blew us away, we absolutely love the work that's been done. I'd like to add that she is very much a people person with a great attitude like she's part of your family. When we came back to sit down & the chef found out that we drove all the way out he gave us the royal treatment. He came out to talk with us personally, thanked us for coming out. Can you say BEST MEAL EVER!. The food was absolutely amazing, we started with the dry ribs (we're not talking deep fried stuff like most places) we're talking real flame kissed tasty ribs. Then came our meal (the Herc special) & omg the steak was cooked to perfection so that you didn't even really need a knife to cut it, the presentation was beautiful, I dont normally take pics of our food but I sure did today lol. We just barely had enough room for the dessert, but if it was appropriate to lick a plate in public, damn i would have, Haha! Hercules you're an amazing cook, thank you for the experience we will be back FOR SURE! UPDATE...coming here for lunch doesn't disappoint either, they have THE BEST onion rings I've ever had in my life!!!

First time here. Interesting place but very quiet. Not many people, patio was nice, only met the waitress and she was nice. Breakfast was standard nothing outstanding. View was nice. A very relaxing place. Not sure what it's like in the evening but will have to go one day and check it out.

If you’ve been around the New Westminster area for a while, you’ll know that many restaurants have taken over the spot that used to be the BC Penitentiary Guard House that closed down in 1980. The latest entry is the Royal Crown Castle Restaurant & Bar. This area has seen better days in the past. Sure, the staircase is still rundown… but it’s been that way for a long time. When you first walk inside, you have to go past a few doors before you find your way inside. It’s been renovated a bit since I was last here (think it was the Dublin Castle back then) but the layout is pretty much the same. I wound up ordering the Shepherd’s Pie ($18) with seasoned ground beef, peas, and corn topped with mashed potatoes and smothered in a thick house-made Guinness gravy. It’s not a bad dish – it’s very filling and there’s lots of gravy. Their menu is a bit of a hodge-podge of different things (stuffed yorkies, quesadillas, burgers, and some asian-inspired dishes). While this might appeal to a wider-range of diners, I wish the menu was a bit more focused.

Huge plates for a great price. Tasty food. Day I went there was only one waitress working her buns off. Hidden gem.

Me and my wife recently got married at the castle and it was an amazing experience . From the venue , the food and to the friendly staff - this place was perfect for our little-not-so-little wedding - thank you Tasha and Shayne for helping make this occasion even more special

Very nice place. Stopped there for dinner and a drink. It was very small but quaint. It had a huge patio with an awesome view of the river. Unfortunately it was still too cold for anyone to take advantage of it. Will be great in the warmer weather. We had the special which was an 8oz steak with 6 prawns and a garden salad for $17. For the price it was a great deal. The steak could have had a bit more seasoning but that's a personal thing. Nice atmosphere, it was filling up quite nicely by 6:30. Obviously a neighbourhood favorite gathering spot. Will return again for more English pub food.
