Found this place on Yelp and was NOT disappointed. We had the kick ass bennies (to die for) and grandpa's plate (total comfort food) and they were amazing. Great food, friendly staff and a fun vibe to the whole place.
LOVE this place! There’s no other place in New Westminster for breakfast like this. As a matter of fact, I don’t know if another place period. Make the drive!
Walking towards the door I notice a sign saying cash only, I look at my wallet to see how much cash I have. ($20) I didn't know what to expect, upon sitting down we were told the menu was on the board and let him know what we would like to order. After deciding, I told him I only had $20 and If it was enough cash for the things we wanted to try. After calculating the amount, it was perfect for the grandpa and uptown.
The food was very good, although a the sausage seemed as if they were sitting and warmed up because the items were warm and slightly dry possibly from the morning as when we showed up at ~12:30 PM the place was empty all the way until we left ~1:15 PM. The hash browns seemed as if they were old too, not very crispy and slightly soggy with a warm temperature.
The highlight of this place is the fruit salad, never had I had a fruit salad in a restaurant that good. Wow, well done.
I love this place! I come here almost every weekend, friendly staff and a cute hostess/waitress on some Sundays. Food is the best for the dollar. I recommend ordering the secret menu item: The Heart Attack
Great food - novel service idea
Went here for Mothers Day brunch. Had the Bennie special, the waffle special and regular waffles and eggs. Place was packed but we didn't wait long. Not really anywhere to stand and wait since every inch of the place is occupied by a coffee station or tea station or some other "serve yourself" set up. The washroom is small but very clean. Now the food is great - you wait for it but I love that it's cooked basically in a galley kitchen you'd find in a typical 1970's apartment. I will come back and I will not mind the wait. BTW, the waffles are the Belgian style but are on the small side and are more chewy than I prefer.
Consistently good food, whimsical and fun atmosphere, very personable staff. Have had breakfast/brunch here on a number of occasions and have enjoyed the warm welcome and tasty food each and every time.
What's good; the Eggs Benny and the hashbrowns are fantastic... We have often requested a mixed version to get one of each of their offerings, instead of two of one kind. Love the adaptive service in this regard - want something a bit different; if there can accommodate the request, they'll do it!
Will be back!
Devine home made sandwich!. Since I have many lethal food allergies, I requested a specific sandwich and WOW, it was the best! Not many places will do that these days.
I really like this quaint gem in New Westminster! Always friendly and are truly around to please the customer! Thank you for understanding my food dilemma!
Friendly people. I enjoyed the serve yourself atmosphere. A nice place for a cheap breakfast. Good tasting coffee.
Everyone loves their breakfast. I has a tofu scramble that rivaled my Mom's growing up. I liked the serve yourself atmosphere.
Best Kept Secret in New West! - Coming Home Cafe. Located on 6th Street (at Hamilton) four doors North of Wendys. They close early so go early! Hours are from 9am to 3pm - 6 days a week including Sunday. Not open Monday. Cash only!
*The locals have been eating here for years and with good reason! - Whether it’s the comfy, cozy retro ambiance, the friendliness (they don’t rush you out,) the free Wifi, or simply the best Brunch ever! ~ ..Chances are this humble little place will become a favorite of yours too! It’s different, affordable and the food is STELLAR! 10/10
Sit down at a funky old antique table & go with it! This was the way it was 30 years ago until McDonalds and Wendys appeared than suddenly everything changed. Sadly all these cool places disappeared. Well Good news! This place has brought it back! - You have to go to Home Coming Cafe!!
Anyone remember the old Cafe/Bistros in Gastown; - places like the Aspidistra? Picture a menu written on a blackboard mounted on the wall rather than a menu at the table. Surrounded by little antique cabinets each having a purpose. One is stocked with tea cups, mugs and glasses. You'll also find a bowel of clean spoons; and of course the dirty spoons are in another bowel. Everything you need for coffee is here. -*Help yourself is the theme for coffee, tea, pop etc! Oh.. and they also offer specialty coffees & lattes.
If you walk half way down the room; you’ll find a half fridge stocked with pop, juice, or water.
The cook (Michael) has a huge following. It seems that where ever Michael cooks the customers follow. I first had Michaels cooking at Heritage Grill many years ago before he moved on. I was recently delighted to re-discover his cooking at Home Coming Café. His passion for cooking is recognizable in the taste.
Cheers to Michael!
Michael changes the pancakes to keep them from boredom. The pancakes might be peanut butter & chocolate one day and pumpkin pie pancakes another day. Each day is different. His creativity knows no bounds! His batter is mixed daily for each day so what he has is what it is. And of course he also does good old fashion buttermilk pancakes. I got a tickle when I asked.. What’s the pancake today? Michael was not too excited and said; it’s just buttermilk today. (The difference being buttermilk is simply more tradtitional but also loaded with flavor.)
The first time I went here I had..
B. Y. O. B. (Build your own breakfast) $3. I requested scrambled tofu for better nutrition (less fat) rather than scrambled egg (I’m not vegetarian and I couldn’t tell it wasn’t egg!) I had “Tara” fig and anise bread (toasted.) *If you get the chance – order this Tara!! It was out of this world! And yes.. They have substitutions for vegetarians. I ordered "added veggies" – And it was loaded! ..Eggplant, mushroom, onions, roasted red pepper, tomato, & zucchini. It was bursting with flavor! It was seasoned to perfection; in fact so much so that I did not need a thing! Too funny! ..I asked for ketchup before I tasted it. *After 1 bite I didn’t bother with ketchup! ($2. for the added veggies.) Apple juice ($2.) Earl Grey Tea ($2.) Total: $12.50 for a STELLAR breakfast!
The second time I ate here I ordered.. Breaky Quesadilla. – It didn’t disappoint! It was supreme-o! ($7.50) I chose (included in the price) a combo of thinly sliced amazing chicken meatloaf, zucchini, roasted red peppers, and Daiya pepper jack flavored cheese substitute. (They have a good selection of cheese.) And of course this comes with the in-house made Salsa. The perfect combo! The flavor is undeniably delicious!! In fact so good that I think I made noises when I ate.. “This is yumm! Oh sooo good!” It was just fabulous! Oh.. I also ordered a side of fresh fruit salad ($2.) but didn’t need it. And I had a diet Pepsi $1.50. Total: $10.50.
..I think I’m going for tea & “Tara” toast today..!
One of the best breakfasts in the Lower Mainland!. I miss the Coming Home Cafe--they are the reason I have finally come around to liking bennys. Yummy homemade hollandaise, great potato hash, always welcoming and friendly staff, and always just a really overall fantastic start to any morning. Definitely not the place to come if you're in a rush but a great place to enjoy an easy morning. I have always enjoyed the food... I think I'm going have to venture our to New West soon to enjoy it again soon. It's been too long!
Just had the most awesome pumpkin pie pancakes! Very cozy place great for conversation and comforting, tasty food :)
