Review Ki Sushi - New Westminster

Vic Yung
Didn't have to make a reservation on a weekend evening and got seated right away. The tables are not extremely close together so there is some comfort in having the extra room. Staff were patient in giving time to wait for the rest of our party and to order. Food arrived within a reasonable time after ordering and was quite good. Rice was cooked well and food was hot. Wouldn't say that the food is exceptional, but is definitely fairly priced and of good quality. Would recommend a visit if you're looking for some standard Japanese food.

Nice place with a very friendly staff. Food is good and well served. We ordered the 3 course meal/dinner for two + edamame and we ended up taking some home!!!! And we eat well.

Like you can tell that the sashimi is very fresh and good quality. It is good portion and quite decent price. However the sauce on it is terrible. It said spicy salmon sashimi but nothing spicy and tastes like sesame oil only. Had to wash off all the sauce to eat lol

Had the worst experience at Ki Sushi. We went on Tuesday night party of 3 didnt order much few rolls but it took them very long time to bring our orders Brought one order then another 30 mins wait and brought the 2nd another 3mins wait. I had keep asking the server as where is our order was multiple times not too sure about the star here but in all honesty poor service received. Very bad!!! The sushi tastes really good!

One of the salmon nigiri's salmon for my takeout items had these tube like things come out. Pretty sure these are worms. Let the restaurant know that these came out and even showed the picture but dismissed me as they say since the sushi fish come frozen before being assembled into sushi pieces it is harmless and safe to eat. It may be safe to eat but still very unappetizing. Won't order from here again.

Chipped laminated/plastic utensils, soup spoon in the bowl of tasteless miso soup, long grain jasmine? rice for sushi, stale color sashimi in odd sizes+shapes with stale soggy salad green… Pseudo Japanese food + aspects at its best!

Awful experience. Ordered the spicy tuna roll, but fairly disappointed. It looked like a leftover from someone and the fish was smelly too. If you are looking for authentic okonomiyaki, don't waste your money on it here. Don't know why they call it "okonomiyaki", it doesn't have fish flakes on top and the taste was just a potato croquette.

Best sushi in New West! Great food, good service. Always add free extras for us when ordering for delivery. Negitoro roll & mango California roll are very good.

• lots of Customer parking available (more at the back)<br/>• not the cleanest place, looks run down and needs proper cleaning of everything<br/>• Service: is very good! Staff are nice, friendly, efficient! Kudos!<br/>• Food quality: poor! As you can see in the photos, sushi were not made with a lot of care<br/>• Caribbean roll: salmon, avocado, cucumber, cream cheese topped with mango. Those are fresh mango slices but it was sliced in all different shape & directions. Taste 2/5<br/>• Beef Teriyaki roll: nothing special<br/>• Gyoza: this was not bad<br/>• place is near Douglas college so students like it for its price I guess<br/>

I ordered from this place ... not only was the food exceptionally horrible... when I called to complain they said “so what do you want me to do about it??”<br/>It’s like dah??? Well first thing is to apologize and perhaps compensate us some way ...we used to go here sometime ago when real for real Japanese people owned it... and the was... delicious to say the most and our dining experience was wonderful... but now the owners are horrible the food is horrendous... all I can say is they dug this place down and under the ground ... I wouldn’t serve this slop to the pugs ... not only that they serve rotten food !!! If I were any of you I would not go here

BEWARE! We've been coming to this restaurant for the last 13 years and never have we had a note put on our windshield to say that a tow truck was on its way to tow our car. If you clock the time we came in to the restaurant from the time we left, it would've been less than an hour. When we confronted the lady (with the short hair) at the front desk, she said that we have been parked there since 3:00 (which meant that we would've been parked there for over 2.5 hours). She informs me that we should have gone to the front desk to list our licence plate with them, but no where does it say that in the parking lot. I am extremely disappointed with all of this and felt compelled to write this. People just can't assume. They should get their facts straight first!!

Average sushi, prices are decent - good for large groups and plenty of options for both seafood and non seafood items. The musty smell when you enter the restaraunt is a turn off for me, and the service was poor. Overall neither here nor there, likely won't be back on my own accord.

This is one of the best sushi places in New West. Their selection of sushi is great and on top of that, they have excellent Japanese dishes. I love their chicken knees, it's something you don't find in most sushi places and I really love it.<br/>Their service is good, not great but not bad. Their food is not high-quality sushi by any means, but with so many sushi places in the area, I think this one stands out simply because of the side dishes.

After a nice relaxing walk along the Quay, we decided to grab some Japanese food at Ki Sushi which is right around the corner from New Westminister skytrain station. Grayson decided to get the chicken katsu don because that’s his go-to dish whenever he sees it on the menu. It’s just something he can’t seem to resist. Especially when it comes with a gooey egg on top!

Okay. So I USED to be a regular at this place because it was so close to where I live... but that soon changed when I went there one afternoon craving sushi. I had ordered the 3 item deal that came with miso soup. The three items I chose were the California roll, salmon nigiri, and the spicy salmon roll. I had also ordered the soft shell crab on the side. Luckily for me, I started with the soft shell crab... then my California roll... and as I was going to grab a piece of my salmon nigiri (salmon on top of rice), I seen this odd transparent circular piece of something. First thought I assumed it was a little piece of green onion... (and as I am writing this, I am getting goosebumps reminiscing about this horrible experience)... as I carefully inspected it... I had seen ANOTHER little transparent thread in another piece so I pulled that one out with my chopstick... and there it was, a roundworm. A damn parasite. I almost threw up. It was STILL wriggling as I held it in my chopstick. My sister and I immediately lost our appetites. Now I am aware that fish carry parasites hence why they freeze it for weeks before consumption, but it's apparent to me that someone in that kitchen was not careful when cleaning the fish. I can only imagine how many people consumed pieces from the same salmon cut! I am COMPLETELY turned off raw fish and do not see myself eating anything raw for a very long time. Not only was there a parasite in my food, but when I had alerted one of the serves he followed with the "would you like to exchange it from another?" You're kidding right? The manager did not even come to my table to apologize or anything!!! They copped my meal except for the soft shell crab. I am definitely never coming to this place of establishment any longer! Message for the owner: BE MINDFUL OF WHAT YOU ARE FEEDING YOUR CUSTOMERS AND TUNE UP ON YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS!!!

We are making our rounds of the New West sushi places. Today it was Ki Sushi. The serving staff were attentive and friendly. They have a very extensive menu. We ordered from the lunch menu. I had the pick 3 special, sticking with the simple karage, vegetable tempura and avacado roll. For the first time I tasted the vinegar in the sushi rice. It left a sour aftertaste which ruined the roll. The chicken was ok and the tempura was greasy, although I liked the variety of vegetables used. <br/>Rainbow Crab had her usual California box with beef teriaki. She too tasted the vinegar in the rice and found the roll dry. She could not eat the beef as the sauce was not teriaki. It was almost like a beef gravy, but not a good flavor. She too said her tempura was greasy and her prawns were half the size they are anywhere else. She did however say the miso soup was very good. We are unlikely to return.

Ki Sushi was the first sushi I'd ever had. I still enjoy going occasionally, but there are better, more affordable options in New West in my opinion.

One of my favorite go to places for Sushi! Great service, extremely kind and efficient staff, countless choices on the menu and delicious food.

Ki Sushi. Great food, well organized take out. love it. good prices
Happy Diner
Meh, had better sushi, service poor. Called in for a mid afternoon snack last weekend, the place was not too busy. We were given both the lunch menu, the specials menu and the dinner menu. Well, given is rather an exaggeration, the menus were practically thrown at us, no explanation or conversation from the server, could we order from all three? Who knows? We ordered from the three items for $8.95 menu. The food arrived quickly enough and was pretty average. Don't even remember what I ate, really did not stand out at all. We did not see our server again. No tea, drinks or anything else was offered. The staff frankly could not give a hoot about us. Won't be going back.

Simple and Delicious!. Definitely a regular here, their lucky choice combo is a great deal during lunch (for $8.95 choose 3 items and get a miso soup). Their rolls are simple and classic, not over-riced or stuffed with extra crab meat like some places. The spicy oyster roll is a must try!

AWFUL!!!. I had vege roll, cali roll, and yam roll with tempura sauce..it was terrible. Plus the girl at the front counter was not friendly at all nor pleasant. Rather snitty. Tempura sauce tasted too salty and almost soapy. YUCK!! The vege roll was horrific...was made mostly with lettuce.

My favorite Sushi, simple and high quality. We've been coming to Ki for years now. I've tried many other places in the city, some cheaper, some pricier. Some bad some good. But Ki always impresses and I always know that I will get great quality seafood consistently here, at a mid price range. Their salmon is delicious (wild salmon of course) and each dish is always given the same time and care to presentation. Ki is my gold standard for good sushi, no crazy fluff, flavoured sauces, etc just awesome food every time. The staff are really great and as a plus delivery is available. If you go, try the Dancing Dynamite Roll!<br/>*it's too bad there are reviews of bad service or discriminatory remarks. I have found their service to be amazing and with long term staff it's easy to see why people return to Ki time after time. As well, the Lucky Choice menu is quite cheap and that is why one reviewer stated the rolls were so small. It is a smaller size served in the lunch combo as reflected in the price. But what can you expect for $8? Still a good deal. Keep up the awesome work!

Great quality, value and service. While I've eaten in the restaurant only a handful of times, I've consistently ordered from Ki Sushi for nearly seven years. The sashimi is always fresh. The portion sizes are good. The rolls and nigiri are made well, without excess rice. The place is always busy but service is consistent. Deliveries arrive in a reasonable timeframe.

Awesome Deal with Friendly Service!. I'm so surprised at all these reviews talking about poor service! I have been here a few times and have always had great service. The sushi is so yummy and service time is quick. My server was great the last time I ate there. I have a feeling the restaurant has seen their reviews of poor service and tried to retrain their staff with better customer service. Give them a chance if your in the area!

Horrible Service - Borderline Racism. I went to order take out from here. When I walked in and asked for a menu from the girl at the take out counter she rudely pointed to a pile of menus 10 feet away and said "over there". I had to navigate their massive sit-down menus to find what I wanted for take out. <br/>While I was waiting for my food, an Asian lady came to the counter and asked for a menu and was politely handed one of their take out menus. <br/>We were also never told how long it would be. <br/>Borderline racist service. Won't be coming back

Ate here the other night. Sashimi has been consistently fresh and tasty. It's my favourite here coz its nice, cold, and melts in your mouth like butter.. Yum. I also like the ambience and free parking. Staff are always friendly to us (got a 2 year old son). Thumbs up.

A joke, but no ones laughing....... Last time I came here me and my friend waited twenty mins at our table without a menu or a glass of water between us. We eventually left without even eating. Pretty bad considering it wasn't busy.... So after that experience I said never again and vowed to write an appropriate review of this all flash and no substance foodery. Having never actually tried the food I decided that If I was going to review a restaurant I might as well actually eat there and so with a little trepidation I returned.<br/><br/>Big mistake... this place is a joke, its like some kind of comedy movie, not like a good one though more like something you skip past on Netflix. So me and my friend both got an order of their lunch special. Quiet inexpensive at $8.99 you get to choose three items and it comes with a miso soup. The server seemed a lot more interested in chatting with his buddy behind the counter then serving us as it took us staring at him for long enough for me to start to get annoyed before he asked what we wanted. We both had an Alaska roll, BC roll (salmon skin roll) and a dynamite roll. I also had some takoyaki on the side. Depending on your perspective this is where the problems started. The server walked up, dropped our miso off without a word, then quickly left to go chat with his buddy in the back. It took about ten mins before I was able to get their attention and actually get some spoons for our soup. Yup that's right there was no cutlery on the table. I hate bad service, especially lazy bad service from someone who makes it really obvious that he doesn't want to be there.<br/><br/>So our rolls arrived, these were hands down some of the cheapest, most poorly constructed rolls I've seen. The dynamite roll had about an inch of rice wrapped around a piece of cold prawn tempura. That's right just prawn tempura. nothing else in there at all. The salmon skin roll was just chunks of overcooked cold salmon with slimy non crispy skin attached and of course the hugely excessive amount of rice surrounding it. Finally the Alaska roll, so normally an Alaska roll will have smoked salmon in it and maybe some some avocado, surami and or cucumber. Their's is a sad ricey mound filled with a minute amount of raw salmon and avocado. I guess they're too cheap to spring for the smoked sockeye. The takoyaki was alright although a little limp. they had obviously been par cooked before as they weren't crispy at all. So we finished our meals then sat there waiting for the bill for 15 mins. Of course this didn't come so we just went to the front and paid for it. If I wanted cafeteria service I would have just eaten at the college next store.<br/><br/>Now one could argue that at $8.99 you shouldn't complain about the food or the service. Really though when the food is this bad your just paying ten bucks to ruin your afternoon. I think they should charge $11.99 and actually serve edible decent food. The worst part, as everyone who reviews this restaurant says, is the service. What a joke. The two Asian guys serving the place are obviously family because any properly run restaurant would have fired them by now.<br/><br/>Anyway this has been a long review so i'm done now but needless to say I won't be eating here again.

Dreadful service. I have been eating at Ki Sushi for years....no more, and I intend to tell as many friends and colleagues as I can (without boring them to death)<br/>3 of us at the table. 2 were served, I was not....and I was paying the bill! <br/>Not an especially busy night, just indifferent servers. By the time my table companions had eaten I still had not been served.... 30mins. When this was pointed out and I cancelled my order I received a less than half hearted apology. Same thing at the cash register which is where the supervisor presides...they obviously couldn't care less about their customers and customer service. <br/>Disappointing after many years.<br/>Steer clear folks....it's the only way to send a message. <br/>Irritated in new westminster

Worst Service Ever!. Went for dinner tonight with a friend and it was the worst service I ever had. My friend ordered Tempura Udon, tand order served after 20 minutes. I ordered Chicken with Noodle and waited for almost 25 minutes and still my order hasn't arrived. Me and my Friend kept calling staff but no one bothered to come untill the Server who took the order came to our table and said " the Chef is cleaning the pan because he cook Seafood whatever". After 30mins of waiting, i gave up. I was so hungry and frustrated and still my order hasn't arrived. I called the Server again and told her just cancel the order because my friend is almost done to his food. None of them apologize for whatever happened! Thats not how u serve Customer!

Great service. Best service I've had in a while thanks ki sushi!

Common sense isn't all that common. I went here with my girlfriend for dinner tonight. I ordered three different rolls, and she ordered vegetable ramin. It was pretty clear who's food was who's. Within 5 minutes of ordering, the rolls arrived at the table... it was an additional 15 minutes before the ramin arrived. I know that the rolls are quickly made, but it seems like it would make sense to bring both orders out at the same time.... I think I'll stick to Oko-nomi

Used to be a fan, not anymore.. Messed up our order on take out. Didn't include our chicken yakisoba. When we called back, girl on the phone told us we never ordered it and generally didn't give a crap about the fact that now one of our group didn't have anything to eat. Funny, all six of us heard the order for yakisoba go out. She even repeated it back when we originally ordered it. <br/><br/>Now to the food: Tempura was just disgusting. Let's not eve go there. Rolls were ok. Beef was stringy and gristly at parts. At the end of the meal there was a pile of "unidentified" gristle pieces at the side of the plate. Rice was good. Chicken yakisoba was .. not present. <br/><br/>I am, well, was a customer since 2007. Sorry Ki, you just lost a regular. Oh well not like you guys need my business anyways. I can take my 30 dollars a week somewhere else. <br/><br/>Hi Dozo is a great place on 6th and 6th, they actually have staff that care about the service and the food is good.

Cheap and stingy. Rude on the phone. Closes earlier than web page indicates.

Awesome sashimi, smoke salmon, gomae, chicken karage and toro tataki is fantastic! Great Sushi restaurant!

I would NOT recommend this restaurant..... I ate at this place last night with my boyfriend and friend. The service was horrible. The waitress who served us was extremely rude to us. The rolls are really small, and the avacado in one of the pieces in my california roll was brown and looked almost rotten so I didn't eat it. I would NEVER eat there again. I've been a customer of theirs for years, but I'll never eat there again after that experience.
Pork_ninjas
Okay japanese food. Came here on a very busy Friday night. We ordered a variety of rolls including the house roll, spicy combo: spicy tuna roll, beef teriyaki roll and spicy salmon roll, deep fried spicy oyster roll and the clam spinach miso soup. The rolls were okay tasting and fresh, I felt at times quite bland without the dipping sauces.

My go-to Lunch Place. Ki Sushi isn't the best or cheapest Sushi place around, nor does it have the best selection, or the best service.<br/><br/>But it DOES have best combination of those factors of any restaurant in the area, which has made it my go-to spot when I want a bite during lunch. <br/><br/>The dinner's are much more expensive. Individual menu items and items ordered ala carte are somewhat inconsistent - I've had really amazing food and I've had food that wasn't worth it.<br/><br/>Having tried a fair portion of the menu, I've settled on the Bento boxes, which are a great deal, $8-12 for a full meal that would probably cost $15 in most Japanese restaurants. <br/><br/>The quality is above average on their staple items. The Sashimi is just right - the cuts aren't exceptional, but they are good fresh cuts for as cheap as I've seen anywhere, and 95% of the time they are the perfect temp, something many Japanese restaurants struggle with. <br/><br/>Service depends on how crowded the place is, but is usually very good. This may just be because I'm a regular, or because I usually eat Lunch around twoish when its a bit quieter, but I get my food within 5-10 minutes of ordering. <br/><br/>Over the past few years, the service and consistency of the food has evolved a great deal, while the prices have barely changed. It really is hard to go wrong with Ki Sushi for lunch.

Horrible. Friends and I went there on a Sunday night. Terrible service. I am usually quite patient and calm when it comes to bad service at restaurants but I couldn't deal with the garbage they had to offer. We sat down and it nearly took them 15 minutes to grab our order. It wasn't even busy inside the restaurant too with several waitresses walking around. I am looking right over at the counter with my menu closed and they see me to but just decide to socialize with their own staff. At a restaurant with good service, you would never see a customer having to wave down their waiters. Once the waitress finally came, she didn't even say sorry for the wait and impolitely said, "Yes, you ready to order?" Very rude. I didn't enjoy that. After we placed our orders most of our dishes arrived quickly but my friend didn't receive his food until 20 minutes later. A simple Oyako Don. They must have forgotten about the order and made it last minute without apologizing to us again. I am never coming back to this place again. I ordered the Chicken Yakisoba and it tasted like it was 2 days old. The noodles were stale and chicken was dry as a bone. Don't come here to eat. It's only convenient because it's right beside the skytrain station.

Something has changed and it is no longer good. Still the same bad service but now the food is crap too. They changed the beef teryaki roll and its now a gross watery mess with a mushy piece of white onion in it. Totally ruined it. Sucks because the food was good before. Now it's as bad as the service. Guess I'll be going to Victoria sushi from now on.

Since we live in new westminster, We were looking for a sushi restaurant near by. <br/>Stopped at ki sushi for dinner.<br/><br/>Food was ok, but the service was terrible. The lady at front obviously does not know how to greet properly. Wrong tone, wrong service.<br/><br/>Would never come here again. <br/><br/><br/>20th december. 2013 at 5:00 pm

Quite good. Went there for lunch with a few coworkers and it's quite a busy place which is a good sign for a sushi place. You can expect things to keep fresh at the rate things go. Had their lunch special box 3 with chicken karaage, sashimi. Also ordered a sushi platter. Good price for the value, service was good. Parking a bit lacking, but there's always the street side. I quite enjoyed the chicken karaage with good flavour and crispy. Will return to try other things on their menu.

Ki sushi New Westminster. Never going there again. We stood waiting for maybe 10 minutes tonight for a table for 2. We were acknowledged by staff that we needed a table for 2. There were 2 couples ahead of us and they were seated. We were standing at the entrance to be seated so they knew we were waiting. A couple with a kid walk in and they immediately seated them. I looked at my husband and that was it...........we were outa there.......and never I repeat, never going back!!!
Patricklikesgoodfood
We entered because it was near the train station. We played it safe and ordered bento box and sushi platter. I ordered bento box because it came with shrimp tempura-- for some reason it was so salty. Even the batter looked and tasted like the ones in the jap fast food at the mall. However the chicken teriyaki that came with the box was juicy and ok-- it's chicken you can't go wrong with it. The sushi platter was not we expected. First we ordered that particular platter because server said it came with octopus balls-- a mix of octopus and potato as it was explained . When it arrived and we ate it, it tasted something familiar like deep fried rice with cream cheese. Second the salmon sushi in the platter was so so dry that even dipping at soy sauce I can tell the salmon was the culprit why that roll failed. As we ended our meal we asked the server about our octopus balls, she then replied " oh we changed it, she said its (something I forget the name ) and we were like-- that's the whole point why we ordered the platter. <br/><br/>Over all, we paid $25 and, honestly maybe they had a bad day or maybe it's how they regularly cook ... i don't know. But i don't think we plan to come back. Seriously, It's not like we ordered something unusual its a typical order for goodness sake.<br/><br/>One more thing, halfway our meal, one of the employees napped in one of the booths . Given it was , 1:30pm, still I would imagine they have a resting area with doors closed so customers can't see them sleep.

Decent Quality, TERRIBLE SERVICE. We've been regular customers of Ki Sushi for the last 5 years. Never had any complaints at their old location, but the service has been AWFUL ever since they moved up the street to their current location.<br/><br/>I don't understand how they can continue to treat their customers so poorly. We've run into the same problems many of the other reviewers here have mentioned:<br/> 1) standing waiting to be seated for 10 minutes without even being acknowledged (when seats are available)<br/> 2) no one taking orders when finally seated<br/> 3) inconsistent food delivery (really, the MISO soup comes LAST????)<br/> 4) incorrect billing - verify your bill before you pay. We've had mystery items billed to us several times. <br/><br/>I tip at every restaurant I go to, but stopped providing tips at Ki Sushi since our last atrocious dine-in experience.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, we really really like their Tiger rolls, so we keep coming back. Our solution? Take out. We order ahead and pick up our food. No tip - no worry about terrible service.<br/><br/>As soon as we break our Tiger roll habit, we'll be moving on. Hopefully it happens soon.
Jenifer
Awful. Poor service. No one even asked us if everything was ok. We watched a couple sit for 15 min without service and get up and leave. The staff never even looks at you so you can wave them over if you need something. They don't even know what the things on the menu are. After we ate our kids wanted another tobiko nigri and we sat for 20 min waiting and then ended just getting up and leaving. Then when we got our bill at the front it has the tobiko that we never received was on there. Food was poor quality. Not worth it. NEVER GOING BACK. Don't waste your time or money.

Good Sushi, Good Service. This place is usually pretty busy, especially if you go during the lunchtimes. The reason being that their lunchtime special is a pretty good deal, but it's dine-in only. <br/>The inside of the restaurant is nice, and the servers are pretty efficient. They're not overly friendly, but they get you what you want pretty quickly.<br/>If you go, you'll have to try the dynamite and California roll, it's probably two of my favourite rolls from them. The fancy rolls are nice too, but there's something about the way that they do the California roll that almost melts in your mouth, and the dynamite roll is cut just the right size, not ridiculously large and falling apart like some places.<br/>We've been there many times since, whenever we're in the New West area. And sometimes we make a detour just to stop by,

Pretty Sushi but.... The sushi look nice and well presented but...the mushy rice is a downer! I hope that was an off day, Cuz there is nothing I dislike more than mushy sushi. Oysters ordered were anorexic! Dragon roll was good. Pink Roll was pretty nice, minus the rice. It will be sometime before I go back again, if I ever...

Garbage, the sushi they make long time before u eat .they put them in refrigerator ? do u like had sushi as u buy in supermarket?

POOR SERVICE or RACIST PLACE!!!. Myself & 3 friends (we're black) went for supper there Jan. 2. when we first walked in, we were being seated & we asked if we could have one of the booths. The lady seating us said "Well you have to take off your shoes & you need more than 4 people to sit there", so we said ok...Not 5 mins later she sat a table of 4 white people in the booth we asked about... We had no problem taking of our shoes to sit there...It took forever to get our order taken no server even asked us if we wanted water or anything, then about 10 mins later someone took our order, not "our" waitress then the food came & when we were done we even had to ask them if we could have the ice cream that came with the meal...

Great lunch place. This is a great lunch place. The service is really quick and the food is always fast and very good. The atmosphere is also really nice (it feels like an upscale sushi place). They have a three-choices plus miso soup 'Lucky Lunch' special for $9, that has a good selection of items to chose from.

Right by Douglas college. Great place if your looking for a cheap place for lunch/ dinner on a student budget. But not the greatest tasting sushi!

Good food/Poor service!. I've eaten here many times and the food has always been good, but the service usually ranges from "okay" to "bad."<br/><br/>I went there for dinner with a friend on a recent Monday night. The restaurant looked to be moderately busy (several empty tables) and there were several people lined up to pay. We stood at the "please wait to be seated" sign for a good long while before anyone noticed us, and we were finally seated after several minutes by someone who looked at us as if we were intruding.<br/><br/>It took 20 minutes for a server to take our drink order and another 15 at least before our food order was taken. I normally would have left a place if I had to wait that long, but we were engrossed in our conversation and both really looking forward to the sushi. The server took my friend's drink order and then started to walk away; I had to call her back to order mine!<br/><br/>When our server finally came to take our food order, for some reason she asked my friend if she could use her napkin to write the order on. Then my friend had to wait halfway through the meal before she got another napkin. We also went for long periods without having anyone check on us and we made a game out of trying to make eye contact with staff so we could get refills on our tea.<br/><br/>After all that, the food was good, but the service really took away from the experience. I will not go back there. I much prefer and recommend Hayashi Sushi at Columbia Square for consistently excellent food AND service.

Wow! This place came highly recommended to me when I moved to the area. I've been to sushi restaurants all over the Vancouver area - Vancouver to Abbotsford- so I can garantee that I was greatly impressed by this place!!! FAST service! Friendly staff!! Good prices!! FRESH sushi! EXCELLENT portions! Great quality food and presentation and great ambiance! This is easily my new fav sushi joint!! <br/>Me and my boyfriend ordered the dinner boat- $40 and it comes with a vast array of sashimi, fancy Alaska roll, tuna roll, salmon roll, California roll, nigiri, tampura, miso, and a generous scoop of ice cream each! I love the green tea favour! Mmmm! We left very happy! <br/>You should definitely check it out!!

Been going here for like 10 years now. Most amazing salmon sashimi, everything from people to food is amazing.

Prince Gastronome. Ki Sushi is the one restaurant I wish Prince George had. Better still, I would move to Vancouver just to be closer to Ki Sushi. <br/><br/>I know that reads like I'm skimping on the preamble, but it's going to take considerable length to justify the setup. I'm not spoiling the end; like Titanic, you pretty much know what's coming. For years, I've argued that the best sushi I ever enjoyed came from Suzuran, sadly now closed. I had much to compare it to, including locations in England and China, with prices up to ten times more than my local variety. And yet, I kept coming back to this little hut known to few but loved by all. The biggest reason why I stuck with Suzuran, why it became a regular spot, why I befriended the chef, was because of a mutual respect the chef/owners had with their customers. It's wasn't a war of value—with one side maximizing profit and the other side minimizing expense. So often I approach a restaurant and can tell from the onset that I'm going to have to act like Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in order to get my money's worth ("Did your parents have any children that lived?!").<br/><br/>What's unfortunate is that Ki Sushi isn't even the highest rated sushi restaurant in Vancouver, nor is it the cheapest. It is simply one example among many of how a sushi restaurant should be. People have complained over its low-quality rice or poor service, but nothing popped up on my radar during my sitting. I'll even admit the experience could be considered only average in the landscape of Vancouver-based Japanese restaurants, and that's the core of my issue with Prince George sushi—the fact that an above-average restaurant is a beached blue whale's length beyond anything offered at home, that if Ki Sushi was located anywhere in Prince George, it would summarily obliterate competition with enough of a healthy margin to still treat the customers like crap and get away with it. So when I say I wish Ki Sushi was in Prince George, I actually mean any sushi restaurant that is above average. If any of these local places tried to pull some of the practices they get away with, they'd be brushed under the rug and forgotten in Vancouver. <br/><br/>I'm sure this isn't true. In fact, I'll wager there are dozens of sub-par sushi restaurants in Vancouver, ones able to sustain themselves despite superior competition, the benefit of the Asian influx and size of the region. Even as I was wandering around Vij's looking for a parking spot, I drove through Sushi Town. Sushi....TOWN, an area so large dedicated to just sushi restaurants, it's granted a title undeserving of most the places you're forced to drive through between Prince George and Vancouver. <br/><br/>So what makes the mark of a good sushi restaurant? I have always praised the inclusion of a sushi bar. Check. Visible and diligent chefs? Check. Unsophisticated décor that doesn't offer the impression that the furnishings were bought from a Jysk clearance sale? Check. Granted, a restaurant like Ki could put in a quantum of additional effort to make themselves not look like a Japanese Arby's, but compared to the "remaining" sushi restaurants in PG, this makes Ki look like Claridges. There's just enough of a Japanese imprint to ensure you're not about to order a No. 8 Chinese combination sampler. Yes, the interior showcases every shade of the brown spectrum, but the paintings of geisha girls and samurais forces me to give Ki a pass. I'll even give them extra credit for having their name branded on every napkin and chopstick. All of this would be trivial if Ki didn't deliver on their raw fish. <br/><br/>After browsing through the sizeable menu, I ignored all the options and elected the zest combo from the special page, thankfully lacking any soap. What you get is a gut-breaching four courses of food, making Ki Sushi the best value in Japanese food, full stop. For $22, you not only get miso soup AND ebi sunomono (vegetables and seafood marinated in rice vinegar), but also a plate of tempura. And when the sushi arrives, you're treated to a colossal plate of nigiri, sashimi, and complex rolls. Every piece was cut to perfect size, nothing was chewy, dry, or warm. As my stomach distended into my colon and pushed my liver past my shoulder blades, the friend I was enjoying this feast with reminded me there was still ice cream to come. <br/><br/>To put this into perspective, half of just the sushi plate would have cost about the same in Prince George as this entire meal. The better restaurants would have included the soup but not much else. Ki never cheapened the plate with tamagoyaki (egg) or cucumber rolls. The entire experience would have cost thirty dollars if not even closer to forty, and a couple places would have still snuck in shredded carrot.<br/><br/>The service at Ki didn't smack as being overtly unsatisfying. Our (complimentary) tea was refilled on a regular basis and water flowed nicely when low. To add prestige to Ki would require paper screens, light ethnic music, period anachronistic fashion, and a ceiling that didn't look borrowed from a bank, but its approach is unintimidating, welcoming—it's gateway sushi, opening the road for more exquisite experiences to come, where the sushi restaurants in Prince George feel like the dead ends for customers ready to return to their bacon double cheeseburgers and fifteen dollar porterhouse steaks. <br/><br/>Apparently, it's also worthwhile to note that Ki is one of the extremely few sushi restaurants in Vancouver owned and operated by actual Japanese (one of two, I am told), odd given that equals the number of Japanese owned restaurants in Prince George. Despite several people insisting this is a badge of quality, I stress that's not the case. It depends on commitment and reverence, two qualities no ethnicity holds the patent on, and I have enjoyed amazing sushi from the hands of both Chinese and Korean, with the Koreans still currently taking the checkered.<br/><br/>DECOR: 7<br/>PLATING: 7<br/>SERVICE: 7<br/>FOOD: 7<br/>VALUE: 10<br/><br/>OVERALL: 7.5 out of 10

Surprisingly decent. I sat at the sushi counter, and was initially dismayed to see the pre-cut pieces of fish, and the kids (chefs) tossing the order tickets on top of each plate of food (more than a few chefs are rolling over in their graves in Japan, I'm sure). But once my Nigiri sushi combo arrived (sans order ticket), it turned out to be quite tasty. The fish was good, at least. The rice was overly vinegared. Of particular note, the eel was perfectly cooked to my liking (lightly seared), and nicely seasoned. Most places over cook their eel, and/or fail to de-bone it properly, and/or the sauce is too sweet. Worth another visit.

Best in New West. We have been loyal customers since they opened their little hole in the wall on Columbia, when most had no idea they existed.<br/><br/>Been great to see them grow, and prosper over the years. <br/><br/>Ki is stil out take-out and delivery sushi restaurant of choice when we have friends over for dinner, and the Lucky Choice lunch menu is always a winner when dining in.<br/><br/>Staff are always very friendly, and provide good service, food is consistently good, and atmosphere has progressively improved over the years.

It's okay... Not a japanese owned, their sushi is as good as any other generic sushi restaurants can get. My Rice for some reason a bit gritty.. and dry. The salmon was good, tuna was mushy.<br/>Chicken Karage looked promising but i didn't taste ANY seasoning/salt.<br/><br/>Cheap lunch.. cheap service.
Riley K
Comparing to other good sushi places, No. Their roll sucks. Terriyaki... No too salty. :( id rather have their nigiri combo.

Great place to eat,Luckey Choice is the best! I eat here once a week!

I am in full agreement of madelines agreement to joeys review "meh" I will say though there green tea ice cream in to die for!!!!!!!
Madeline
I am in full agreement with the statement "meh" by Joey, because i always get the lucky choice and it is very good. The spicy tuna sashimi is extremely delicious, but the waitresses are very uneducated.
Joey
Meh. The sushi is inconsistent and i never order the tuna anymore because the smell is terrible. I only go for the lucky choice because it is so cheap. The waitresses are incredibly air headed.
HH
Great prices, very good food (especially the yam tempura roll!!!) and fairly good service. The place has an odd odor too it but I assume it's because it is new. I love the koi pond in the front, it adds a nice touch!
No Dessert Im Full
A cheap and plentiful menu with fresh sushi and an inviting atmospherr make this a solid japanese joint

I've just been there 10 min ago and that was my first visit with my husband. I don't really write reviews about restaurants but this lunch was the worst lunch in my life. Their services was OK but their food was the worst worst Japanese food I ever had before. First of all, the dynamite roll only had a pice of ebi tempura in there(Nothing else but a pice of tempura) but that was fine coz I thought that's this restaurant's style. After we got a chicken teriyaki(lunch special) but this was worse than the dynamite roll. The rice was so old and yellow and the chicken was so hard but the sauce was OK so we ate it. And the last we got a chicken yakisoba, but this was the most wrong choice I've never made. The noodles were burned, it didn't have any sauce to taste and the chicken was the same chicken we had for teriyaki..... We couldn't finish this. Anyway we will never go back there and if you want to enjoy some japanese food, please try somewhere else.

Street Preacher shouting through a microphone. We have been going to Ki Sushi for as long as it has been open and we will sadly go no longer. It was where we had our anniversaries, our child's birthdays, and where we met with friends. We were so happy to see that it didn't shut down with the rest of the immediate neighborhood. All this said, when we have been there recently, we have had to walk by a man shouting into a microphone, and if that isn't bad enough, we can still hear him through the window in the restaurant! We said something to our server and she said she would pass the message on to the manager. Friends who live in the neighbourhood have said the shouting continues. This is very sad to us that we aren't able to visit our favorite restaurant in peace. We will however wait, for the day the silence, well, goes elsewhere.

Quick service, nice atmosphere, bathrooms could be more well kept.

It blows. Service is terrible. Forgot my order dispute the fact that others got theirs instantly and they use electronic menus. Oh and dont even bother ordering the sashimi. It looks like wet dog food sprinkled with sesame seeds.

Great quality sushi , service is spotty , but delivery is really quick ! Try the house roll !
RR
Bad service - waitresses were rude. Plus, the oyster motoyakis they served us had a strong unpleasant smell. I'm pretty sure they weren't fresh and I would know because I eat oysters often.
Steve
Great price, great food, great service. I go to Ki Sushi a few times each month. The food is always excellent and very inexpensive. The staff are always fast and friendly...super service. I love this place and travel a fair bit just to eat there. Two thumbs up!

Raw or cooked...all is good!. I don't find it rare that sushi restaurants have both cooked and uncooked food! But Kirin (name change) does it for me!<br/>My favs:<br/>-sockeye salmon sashimi - always fresh and good portion, no yucky end bits/weird pieces<br/>-Canada roll - tasty for a cooked roll<br/>-Golden California roll - guilty pleasure--hey, better for you then a deep fried twinkie!<br/>-Negitoro roll - most places have it, but not all do it well! green onion and "oil" a must to enhance the flavour of the toro!<br/>-Salmon Salad - not what you think--salmon sashimi chunks, avacado, tobiko salad on a crispy "rice" puff (?), kind of tostado looking, great appy<br/>-yakisoba - very tasty<br/>-chicken karage - no bones and crunchy and not too salty<br/>-tempura - like the assortment of vegetables and never soggy (same goes for the dynamite roll)!<br/>-shogiyaki beef - less saucey and goopey than teriyaki, more restaurants should have this! great lower carb option--just don't have the rice!<br/>-lucky choice - awesome price for lunch choice, a lot of variety!<br/><br/>In addition, their price and portion are very good/competitive!<br/><br/>Sorry don't understand the people who don't like it! Sure it isn't Tojo's...but c'mon, you're not paying close to Tojo's prices! And I wouldn't even say that all Tojo's rolls were that special!

Good Sushi Outside of Vancouver. My Meal: BC Roll, Dynamite Roll, Red Tuna Nigiri &amp; Miso Soup<br/><br/>BC Roll: 1<br/>Dynamite Roll: 2<br/>Red Tuna Nigiri: 3<br/>Miso Soup: 1<br/>Service: 1<br/><br/>Comments: All in all I was pretty happy with what I ate. The BC roll was great as always, and the Dynamite roll was also good I am just horrible at eating the thinner rolls but that is my own problem :) The Red Tuna Nigiri was pretty good but the texture still got to me. Half way through I was getting tired of chewing. What can I say about miso. Its miso soup, I love the stuff and make it at home on a regular basis and It is really hard to go wrong there (not that I haven't had my fair share of bad miso)<br/><br/>Service: The service was pretty damn good. We were served very quickly, but not rushed and were greeted with gracious cheerful staff. The place was nice and quite and has a decent ambiance to it. One of these days we will have to grab one of the booths but that always leaves something new to try.<br/><br/>Rating System:<br/><br/>1: Great <br/>2: Good <br/>3: Not Bad <br/>4: Meh <br/>5: Bad

Like it a lot. I keep coming back because I really like this place. I find it pretty low key and relaxing. Have met some interesting people at the sushi bar. I find the Nigiri sushi to be among the freshest in Vancouver, and the rolls well filled with fish. It's not cheap, but it is very good value and competitive with other sushi places while fresher. I also find the service and especially the food delivery very quick, which is handy at lunch. I'm a regular customer, and for me service couldn't be better.

Hm... Ki sushi is not bad. I enjoyed goign ther Until that New sushi place called Okonomi Sushi (right beside columbia station) was created.

Mixed review. My husband and i always try a sushi place more than once to make sure we're not there on an "off day," but after the fourth time at ki sushi we realized how poor the service and food are. most rolls fall apart right away when being picked up, the tempura dip was weak and watered down (and in my opinion shows the quality of any sushi place) and the tempura absorbed too much oil and grease, which shows it was obviously not deep dried at the right temperature. likewise, the service was disappointing, as although we got seated right away, many after us we're not acknowledged when they waited for a seat and the servers rushed around seemingly avoiding eye contact with them because it was busy and they rather pretend customers weren't waiting. overall a sad experience....i really hope those sushi masters didn't go to university for their sushi-making abilities and if the servers knew the key to being friendly was a simple smile and acknowledgment, maybe they would try that more often!

Wonderful. Food was Great we ordered the ki house combo which was nicely presented on a boat. Sushi was nice an fresh tasting. The waitresses are lazy though. make sure you say your order correctly and your drinks right away they will not come to your table unless you whistle at them. <br/><br/>I tipped the chef Directly.

Incompetant service, great food.... I've been to this place numerous times. The food is great, the prices are ok, but the service is usually bad. They're friendly but the entrees will all come at different times, main courses before appetizers, one person's entrees will come while another person's will be another 10 minutes & on 2 occasions I've been forgotten about altogether.<br/>When ordering take out they're fast & the food is good, but the amount of Styrofoam used was enough to put me off. Frankly - there are many other places out there that are just as good & have their stuff together.

Top Notch Sushi. Great, fresh, reasonably priced Sushi. I will make a point of planning appointments so that I can have lunch here. Always busy and for good cause.

The Best sushi in metro Vancouver! Hands down!!

Ki Sushi remains one of my preferred restaurants for Japanese food in New Westminster, mainly for the extensive variety in the menu. There was a lot of Mandarin spoken by the servers, which might explain the variety of choices and the frequency my tea was refilled. They do a good job of pricing the menu items appropriately, with the misses priced lower and the hits priced higher. It also appears to me that the simpler the dish, the better it is executed at Ki Sushi.

The sashimi was very disappointing. The pieces were clearly end pieces because they were in very small pieces. They were cut into 1/2 inch cubes so the texture of the tuna could not be enjoyed. The sauce too sweet so the spiciness of the sauce was quickly removed. Overall, it didn’t measure up to the version I can get at Sushi Town/Garden/California.

Woww, I haven't had sushi in weeks LOL. Not since my visit to Van Ya last month! I've heard alot about Ki Sushi having the *best* sushi in New Westminster. Well, there aren't that many places for sushi in New West anyways haha.   When I went during lunch, this place was packed! The first thing I noticed was that the servers/chef all spoke Mandarin and Cantonese! I was seated at the counter so I was eavesdropping on their conversations the whole time heheh ;)       Not going to lie, for a Chinese run place, Ki Sushi really impressed me LOL! The food I tried was on par with most midrange Japanese and Korean run sushi restaurants! For me, as long as the food's well executed and properly made, I could care less who it was made by haha! Although authenticity can be a huge selling point...at the end of the day, it's the quality and taste that really matters! Deluxe Sashimi Combo $13   This combo was a total steal! For $13 I really wasn't expecting this much food lol, because in the picture, the portion sizes looked so much smaller! That's why I ordered an extra oyster motoyaki lol, cause I thought it wasn't going to be enough...I was wrong LOL! Assorted Sashimi 3.5/5 stars    The combo came with 3 pieces of tuna, 2 pieces of salmon, and 3 pieces of hamachi. The cuts were neat, and all the same size. Everything tasted pretty fresh (by frozen standards) and the sashimi pieces were defrosted so they weren't overly icy. Tempura 4/5 stars   I wasn't expecting alot of tempura, but the combo actually came with a ton! There were two pieces of shrimp, 1 yam, 1 zucchini, 1 pea, and 1 pumpkin. The tempura was light and crispy, just the way tempura batter should be! The exterior wasn't overly greasy or soggy at all! Assorted Nigiri 3/5 stars   The sushi rice was well shaped and tightly packed, exhibiting a strong sour undertone. The cuts of fish were standard, rather fresh tasting, and smooth to the touch. Oyster Motoyaki 2.5/5 stars   The motoyaki was topped with a heavy layer of

Ki Sushi stands out as a superior establishment for Japanese cuisine in New Westminster and I encourage anyone looking to try something new to give Ki Sushi a try. It won’t be your last.

...Toro Tataki... fish was fresh and not smelly in the least; lovely balance of the yuzu flavor w the richness of the toro... Helen's Roll... very well wrapped rolls, didn't fall apart on picking up; slightly too much cream cheese though, would have loved a tad more salmon...

I would revisit and Ki Sushi will most likely be a regular Japanese restaurant for me whenever I am in New West or Burnaby. Totally regret not ordering the lobster motoyaki too…

Yesterday I stopped into one of my old sushi haunts – Ki Sushi in New Westminster . This is a sushi restaurant that I have visited many times over the years as it has changed, grown and moved. The great thing about Ki Sushi is that it is what I call “a classic sushi place”. By that I mean the pieces of nigiri sushi and the sushi rolls are cut so that they are easily two bites or one if you are a little more daring.
Shelley
I finished everything else in my lunch box but only managed a couple of bites of the noodles. Despite being full, I enjoyed the two bites of noodles so I packed the rest to go.

Ki Sushi is located across from the New Westminster Skytrain station on 8th Street. They have a fairly small parking lot but there’s plenty of street parking nearby. For some reason, there’s a busy lunch crowd that comes here… I’m not sure why because I found the place to be fairly unremarkable.

It’s hard to find good quality sushi in the burbs. Aside from Hanako  in Surrey, I don’t know many sushi restaurants outside Vancouver that I would recommend. Granted, I haven’t been to every sushi restaurant outside Van, but I’ve been to a fair share of them, especially in Surrey and my findings are always the same: generic rolls, generic menu and generic taste. So when I decided to check out Ki Sushi in New Westminster with @phoelam I was a tad hesitant. Even thought I’ve heard good things about the place, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The restaurant was busy when we got there for lunch (always a good sign). We still got seated right away, and I was pleased with my surroundings: nice wood accents, lots of glass, very clean. Our server came right away to take our drink order. Another plus. I hate to wait for my drinks. Now to the food: See how beautifully red my salmon is? That’s wild salmon, not farmed. Now I know some people claim that farmed and wild salmon taste the same, but not

Ki also has a selection of specialty rolls, such as this one with mango.

Tonight my brother in-law took me to Ki Sushi on 8th just outside New Westminster Skytrain Station. I've been here with him a handful of times and I already knew that I quite like this place. Le

I rarely venture as far east as Burnaby simply because I don’t have a car, and when I do go that far, it’s usually in the North Shore (Deep Cove). So this weekend I just wanted to get away from the bustling energy and atmosphere from the downtown core. I
