Review Han Lin Noodle House - New Westminster

Disappointed on 2nd visit after 2 weeks. It seemed the quality from the previous visit could not be kept up. 4 plates and a dim sum item cost $80. Price and portion order was good

Great staff and service. Order didn't take long. Food was good, not the best Chinese place out there, but not bad either. It doesn't break your bank. Would recommend the hot and sour chicken soup.

We popped in last night and enjoyed the food - without question the best thing about this place it the service and shear variety of menu items you can order. The food came out in 5 minutes. The food was good- not amazing. Just good. We ordered beef broccoli and ginger beef, green onion cakes, and a noodle dish. Maybe we didn’t order their specialties🤷‍♀️

Good Food. Great Portion Sizes. The food tastes like it’s homemade which is a good thing but also it doesn’t give you that “restaurant taste”. I found the beef fried rice to be really nice, the sources were well balanced and was more than enough for two adults. The Beef brisket was beautiful, the meat was falling off the bones and cooked beautifully, the broth tasted amazing and (so did the potatoes) once again, it tasted exactly like something my family would make at home and didn’t really “elevate” my senses. The soup, it’s chicken and egg, has tofu, noodles and cabbage. I forget the exact name. It needed a little bit of salt/ soy sauce to give it that hint of magic, it was pretttyyyyy good! The snap serving is actually super big lol, so that was great! Overall kinda fatty/ oily for my liking, but also a must try. There are more items I’d like to try so I’m definitely going back. The SOUP was my favourite.

Very good dimsum and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Their bbq duck is excellent, would have been 100 stars but I got a stomachache after eating here unfortunately. The bbq duck leftover also gave me some irritation later sadly. :(

Unexpected flavours, delicious, highly recommend, the lunch portion has too much noodles to share, and the fried dumplings are amazing. Service is five stars too.

Out of all the Chinese restaurants within New Westminster , I must say this is where I always go. Since I got here three years ago, this is still ny fave Chinese restaurant place. Food serving is fair for sharing, service is quick, also they are happy servers that has been working for the company for a long time! Food is real good! Okay what else? Hmmm maybe additional dessert option and that’s it!

I'm not usually a wonton noodle soup kinda gal but cold rainy days call for a bowl by default. As expected the soup didn't have depth of flavor in it or anything but the wonton and noodles were amazing. We usually buy their rice noodles to make soup at home but it was a nice change to have it at the restaurant instead this time!

Just when you think it’s not going to get worse, you are proven wrong. What an unprofessional and rude female Chinese (Spanish speaking also) server. It’s a Tuesday evening with many open tables yet she pointed us to sit in a small middle table with virtually no elbow room between customers. We asked nicely for a better table. To our horror she turned her back huffily on us and mumbled something in Chinese. So we left! Not coming back anymore. We will tell others for sure.

In Canada, please be nice and professional since you’re not in China anymore, dear server. I guess at Hons good food and professional customer service is an oxymoron. By the way the restaurant was closed recently for a few weeks due to “renovation” (oh sure). Please check Sanitation Complaint history.

Usually do the home delivery option. Food is always hot . Our family has been eating at this restaurant since it opened its doors. My mom liked the beef satay chow mein. I like the Singapore style chow mein.

Very solid food at Hon's! Make sure to order their pot stickers, they are delicious. We've also tried their congee, wonton noodle soup, and chow mein. The food has never disappointed, prices are fair and service is decent. We will be back.

I grew up in Chinatown eating Hon’s as a treat on Sundays and the New West location didn’t disappoint. I visited on a Tuesday night so it was quiet with lots of seating available. We were greeted cheerfully, seated and served tea right away.

It was my son’s bday dinner and we ordered the beef and black bean sauce chow mein with crispy noodles, sweet and sour chicken and the salty fish and diced chicken fried rice. The food came out lightning fast, I’m talking minutes!

The noodles were too crispy for my son but I loved them. They are crispy through and through. Meat and vegetables were generous. Everything was so delicious and hot! The sweet and sour chicken was lean and crispy. The fried rice was tasty and their portions are big! There are a lot of filler onions so if you aren’t a fan, maybe ask to hold back on them.

Overall great experience, quick and friendly service and delicious food with generous portions. Will definitely return! (I’ve had their wet rice noodles with beef and it’s delicious too).

Ah, Hon’s. Chances are, if you grew up in Vancouver and also Chinese, you have been to Hon’s. Personally, my family did not go to the restaurant to eat that much, but we always purchased their fresh noodles (hoa fun) at the original Chinatown location. I really enjoyed Hon’s hoa fun noodles but it’s been awhile since I’ve had them!

Hon's has been a family favourite for Chinese food since I was a baby! When the Richmond location closed, we started going to the New Westminster location, and none of the dishes have ever disappointed. My personal favourite are the potstickers, because I grew up on those. It's the perfect balance of crunchy and soft textures, and the vinegar sauce that accompanies it compliments the dish well.

Portions here are big. We always have some food left over to take home. No need to worry about what to eat for lunch the next day!

This location can be a little busy, especially during the evenings. Make sure to get here early! The servers are nice and efficient, however, so you should be seated as soon as possible.

came here for a quick lunch, ordered veggies and fried rice, it's definitely decent, although veggie are a little bit more on the harder side, maybe due to the thickness of the vegetable, and slicing them by 2 i think will be better crunch of vegetable overall. the fried rice was average, a little bit of more wok flavour wouldn't hurt, price wise is definitely on the better side

One of my comfort food place. This rating is for the New Westminster location. I've been here countless times and they've always provided the best Chinese comfort food around this area. Weekdays, this place tends to be less busy compared to weekends where it can be packed during dinner time. The portions are large and their variety is immense. Eat in or take out both are available.

First of all, this place was cheap, but the food was greasy and the wuntuns had a weird texture to it, the fried rice wasn't fried and the shrimp was tasteless. The only form of taste in the rice was the mushy peas that were kind of shrivelled up. The beef was hot and juicy(good sign) and the broccoli had a nice crunch to it. The potsticker's filling just fell out of the potsticker when I ate from it. The filling was ok but it just fell out(For every potsticker!) I do not really recommend this place, but it is way better than Char631!

Ordered 2 noodle dishes off the lunch special menu (1 per person). We were pleasantly surprised by the large portions (ended up packing both home and made another meal out of it) but it did consist of mostly noodles. It would have been nice to get more meat/veggies. Taste was okay but can't really complain since the dishes were less than $8 each (again, these dishes were huge).

You get somewhat fast service at Hon Wun Tun house, if order in store of course... Sometime they do not pick up if you call. They have SLIGHTLY above par food. The staff that work there seem to be in rush but why???? Kinda RUDE at times too.

Han Ji (better known as Hon's) has always had a special place in my Dad's heart. Back in the 80s and 90s (when Chinese restaurants weren't so ubiquitous) my dad would frequent the Hon's in Chinatown and Coquitlam. He still buys their frozen dumplings on the regular. Nowadays, he's more keen on eating at Cantonese food stalls in Richmond. But that doesn't stop us from making the occasional visit to Hon's! Now that we live in Burnaby, the closet Hon's is the one in New Westminster, on Sixth St! The New West Hon's doesn't have the charm of the Chinatown location...the dingy, rough around the edges atmosphere is so evocative of "old" Chinatown.

Knowing that my dad likes anything that comes in combos...I suggested the Dinner for Four, which comes with 6 full sized dishes for only $44.80!

The Dinner for Four Combo turned out to be a fabulous deal! We ended up with more than enough food (we packed up 3 boxes worth!) I don't eat that much for dinner ;)

So Hon's...this restaurant LIVES in my memory...running in Queen's park, then coming to Hon's for a gorgeous bowl of delicious won ton soup( with number one noodle!) and as much chili oil as I could bear in the delicately flavored fish broth-SO delish- The award winning pot stickers and the absolutely divine honey-garlic ribs-perfectly cooked and meaty...oh nom...Their Sui mai , are stellar, packed with savory flavor and steamed to perfection. This is always, the New Westminster location.
Just go eat there. The service-not outstanding-but the(glorious) food comes pretty fast and is always worth it.

So the other day we finally got the keys to our new house! YAY!!! Exciting times :D So to celebrate, we went to Hon's for dinner (as per my dad's request.) My dad loves Hon's, he's been frequenting Hon's for over 25 years!! . My mom decided to tag along, and we let her do all the ordering - and I must say, she did a pretty good job!! I probably would've ordered the same dishes myself. My mom hates anything fried (Moms) but for some weird reason she insisted on ordering a plate of fried chicken wings that day! Definitely out of character for her! But guess what she did? She ended up peeling off the fried skin and just ate the chicken!! I will never understand her ;)

Showed up after a long moving day and ordered shrimp wun tun and a dish of beef / broccoli... Good tasty food.. Clean, busy place... Good customer service... I think i found a new place for my Chinese comfort food :)

One word: potstickers!. Best place in new west for potstickers dipped in vinaigrette sauce. really hits the spot after a late nite out.

Rude server rude manager two screwed orders and to "punish" me for asking them to get it right I was told the next one would be very small. Never again.

New owners. not the same. I used to love going to Hons. I live right up the street and I ate there a lot. Their potstickers used to be a staple in my home. Sadly they have new owner and the quality is not there. The flavor and portions are lacking also. The pork pot stickers have less meat and approximately 1 in 4 will have gristle that you cant chew and puts you off. I have started eating at Mr. Ho's Wonton house. They are father but they are better.

Im going to start this off by saying I really do enjoy the food. The service is also generally really good - quick to fill drinks, fast meal expedition, quick to greet upon entrance.

My qualm is that I feel like I'm being judged as soon as I walk in the door. I saw the portions some of the other patrons received and felt like mine were comparatively smaller. The "Sweet & Sour Pork with Pineapple" had very little of the aforementioned, but instead was overloaded with thick onion and pepper chunks. We wouldn't have ordered that particular dish had we known. Also, it came on a small plate, whereas the meat dishes usually come in the much larger bowls.

The chicken fried rice was tasty, but had lettuce in it....... Not anything I've ever experienced before and not something that impressed me. Seemed like a cheap filler. No peas in the fried rice, either.

The wuntun soup is delicious. It's priced fairly, but once again, looking around, I felt like everyone else was served their soup in the larger bowl. I ordered the 10pc to share with my daughter, and the bowl it was served in was very small and there was very little broth. There were enough wuntuns to share, but I guess next time I need to order the largest size, 20pc, in order to get enough broth.

Overall, I *feel* like the woman saw a younger mom with a toddler, and wrote me off. I did tip her despite what I mentioned above; but I hope my next experience is similar to the experiences I've had in the past there.

Good cheap eats!. Hon's to me is like McD's to other growing up. My family used to go to the original one in Chinatown at least once a week. The hole in the wall,l but got lots of rave reviews in Georgia straight newspaper. My favorite is the Curry beef on rice. There just something comforting and familiar about it. Fast forward 25 years later, moved to New Westminster and I still go to Hon's and get a quick cheap dinner. For awhile it was a bit iffy and the food was bad. But it seems they got their groove back. The waitress Are friendly and service fast. It's nothing fancy but I can get dinner for two for under $30 and we can have leftovers for lunch for a few days. Can't beat that!

Quality has returned. Have meen going here for 20 years. The decor and ambiance are just as bad as ever - but it isn't pretending to be a fancy place.

The quality got iffy for a while during the bankruptcy, but it has gotten good again - no complaints.

Best dish has to be the Braised Bean Curd with Chinese Mushrooms, they also are doing some fancier fish, tofu, and black bean dishes - that might not come fast, but are great. and worthy of a much fancier place.
Jeff Cross
Can't complain for the price, it was quick and tasted pretty good. I wasn't wowed by the pot stickers. Decent amount of duck meat in my soup. I think I'll try another duck dish next time.

I love this place. They cover all the things a good Asian eatery needs to cover: plastic tables, pot of volcanic chili oil on the table, tea served to every table, open kitchen and the house specialty (potstickers) are perfect. If I lived in New West. I would eat there once a week.
Isha
No longer worth going. When we moved to new west 16 years ago we were turned on to Hon;s and ate there on a regular basis but no more. Service is poor. Place is dirty and I try not to use the bathroom. I used to like the BBQ duck but there is only 2 bites of meat now and rice is often hard. Asked waitress about the lack of duck and she told me if I want more I have to pay more and buy plate instead. Rude, rude, rude. Inattentive staff and scared about hygeine in kitchen. Quality and quantity of food gone seriously downhill. We stopped eating there 6 years ago. sure enjoyed it the way it used to be though it was still fithy we were able to overlook it but not any more.
Danny Smith
This place is so dirty... Just walk up the the take out area and look around.. Distrusting !
Ron
Terrible serve with 4 pieces of duck , 2 pieces are bone. Complainted to the femal manager and the reply " that's the way it is" rude and greedy .

Well, priced, fast and consistent. Hon's is one of the better valued choices when having a larger group, whether it be for eat-in or take-out, lotsa food that does not take a bit out of your bank account.

We have always asked for no extra MSG added, and never leave the table with an empty stomach.....always lots of leftovers when taking out, yum :)

A dish that we always order, which I'm not even sure os on the menu, is the eggplant with minced pork hot pot.....really nice.
DT
Good value, fast service. People like to complain about cheap greasy chinese food for which Hon's is often named one of the guilty parties.
Well, not long ago I attended a gourmet cooking class for western food, and learned about the use of very high fat content cream in many of the dishes -- the use of 30% plus fat content cream is quite a standard to make a meat dish taste good.
That made me feel there's a certain unfair discrimination against cheaper chinese restaurants -- the appearance of grease just might be a bit more subtle in a pricier "western food" restaurant, that's all.

Anyway, Hon's is very good value, big size dishes, good portions, decent services and cleaniness.

Have been going to Hon's for 15 years and hands down Hons has the best won ton soup. No where else compares! Great flavor! I always get the wonton soup with #1 noodle and bbq pork!!

Not what it used to be. Been coming to this place since 2001 but it appears the ownership changed about a year ago. Fast and friendly service but quality and selection seemed to disappeared along with the crowd of people used to line up out the door. We used to say "we would never get in there, it would be too busy. Let's wait after the dinner rush". I remember I used to go there at 11am in the morning to beat the lunch rush and people would be waiting for the door to open. Bring back the fresh produce please! Bring back the chef specials!
Brad
Poor service/suburb monopoly. I ordered a lunch special but the wrong dish came so I asked for a new dish. They did and later charged me for both dishes. I refused and said if they charged me for the original dish, then I will take it home. They conferred and I won my case. Big deal. Btw, the special was little beef and broccoli and a huge bowl of white rice. Lots of sizzle and little steak. Vancouver Chinese would laugh at this place, filled mostly with suburbanites who know no better. Poor choice.
Cally
We got delivery from Hon's and really enjoyed it. The food was fresh and delicious and the shrimp spring rolls were to die for! We found the price to be inexpensive for the quality of the food, but not alot of extras. No soy or plum sauce or fortune cookies, but I would get food from here again in a heartbeat.

It changed hands!. I used to come to Hon`s always for Chinese food! I loved Hon`s! And we always ordered special off-the-menu dishes too! However Hon`s has new owners now, and the food doesn`t take as good! This is one restaurant, I won`t be frequenting anymore

Time for a New Place. I love Hon's. Have done since they opened in the Royal City. But it is time for a remodel or move to a better location so you can get rid of all the clutter. Too much crap in the hall and by the back door. The food is fantastic, staff great but the place needs to be updated.

Good NOT Great Chinese. Hons has done an admirable job of keeping their foods authentic whilst trying to bridge the demands of wider-western-appeal w/o total domination with goofy General Tsao Chicken and the likes.

They offer a SOLID wonton/noodle soup and their dishes are tasty and price-friendly. They offer efficient service and you always walk away full and feeling like you received GOOD value. Multiple locations make this a gem when seeking solid Chinese
Axel
Quite simply, this asian eatery provides an interesting array of tasty, reliable fare at prices even your cheap father would smile at... This is asian comfort food pure and simple.

Everyone loves Hons! The food is yummy, and we usually order take-out to enjoy a nice family dinner at home. There is something for everyone, ad all the food is really good.
Sabrina
They've got a great location and atmosphere

Would I order from Hons again? Yes. but only for its wontons/dumplings. I let down by the pork and the second dish. It has convinced me that sauces (I’m pretty sure most sauces in the ‘hot pot’ section of the menu are the same or rely on the same base) are not their strong suit and neither is their bbq items… I have never seen such a poor attempt at bbq pork in my life.

Ah… Hon's Wun Tun House, a childhood memory of mine, fighting over pot stickers with my sister and as a family of four, ordering three dozen LOL. Around half a year ago, I tried re-living the memory of Hon's at the Coquitlam location, however, the pot stickers were not very good or the other dishes. So, I decided to visit New Westminster's location because I remember coming here a couple of years ago and the food was definitely a lot better than the location in Coquitlam. The restaurant's interior is fairly simple, tables and chairs set up like a fast food joint. STIR-FRIED MUSSELS IN BLACK BEAN AND GARLIC SAUCE, SWEET CORN SOUP WITH SHREDDED CHICKEN, PAN FRIED PORK GYOZA, SOY CHICKEN AND BARBECUE DUCK, BRAISED ROCK COD SLICES WITH BEAN CURD, STEAMED LOBSTER AND PRAWN GYOZA, SHRIMP AND PORK WUN-TUN IN SOUP AND STIR FRIED VERMICELLI WITH MIXED MEATS . SHRIMP AND PORK WUN-TUN IN SOUP ($2.75). The soup has a generic chicken broth taste, not

Hon’s Wun-Tun House is a throwback to a simpler time and simpler place. Walking into this little restaurant on 6th in New West (about a block away from Taqueria Playa Tropical ) reminds me of all the small little diners that you used to be able to find in Chinatown before the great exodus.

I really go to Hon's for the potstickers (and the pale red, sweet, sour, vinegar dipping liquid). It's BAD ASS. I got some take-out for my sister. She ate all 12 in one sitting.
Chefsnightout
...the food quality here is not very good. I’ve been to this location at least 3 times and will not return again in the future.

Hon’s Wun-Tun House (or better known as just Hon’s) is noted for it’s Chinese “comfort food”. The restaurant serves primarily cantonese style food and has been a favourite chinese restaurant in Vancouver for many years. Hons is well regarded for its wonto
