If you consider Grilled Cheese comfort food and are looking for a quick fix I might just have the place for you. Located on the Plateau and at Carrefour Laval MLT DWN offers a variety of grilled cheese that will make you melt…They also have other locations in Ottawa and Kingston if you’re not in Montreal. On top of a dozen different choices on the menu you also have the option to create your own with different types of bread including a gluten free option.
Cheesus - where to start?! One does not go to MLT DWN for a casual snack - the food here is decadent, rich and comes in serious portions. Definitely try their waffle fries and triple cheese grilled cheese. For a close up of their food - check out the video on youtube.com/mtlfoodsnob-1!
Once we regained our senses following the smorgasbord of cheese, bread, pasta and potatoes ingested, we started contemplating why this fun, fresh and tasty concept wasn't gaining more traction here. Perhaps (hip)pie Plateau is confused by the digital menu boards and fast casual model, landing MLT DWN in a state of limbo somewhere between a fast food joint and a full-service restaurant.
I literally got this app just so I could hype this place.
We stumbled across MLT DWN while looking for a place to eat and we proceeded to visit there twice more before our trip was over!
Talk about glorious. Pulled pork poutine grilled cheese? Lasagna grill cheese?? Chicken bacon ranch?? We tried 5 different sandwiches and drooled over them all. I HIGHLY recommend anything with their deliciously cooked pulled pork or the lasagna one....so. Good.
It was just an added bonus that the restaurant was stylish and cool and the staff/owners were so friendly and awesome (yo Aly and Rahim!)
Eat here, you won't regret it!
Let me preface this by simply saying, eat here. I you're looking for somewhere to eat, or if you're standing out front quickly looking up reviews to see if it's worth it to try. Just go in. And eat something.
Some foods seem to transcend age, income, and location. The grilled cheese is definitely one of these foods, and it is one of my favourite meals to this day. When I saw MLT DWN I was tentatively excited at the prospect of an entire restaurant dedicated to one of my favourite things. Any sandwich with anything more than bread and cheese is technically a melt, so right out of the gate they get a plus one for being politically correct.
The food.
We stayed in Montreal for 5 days, we ended up going here twice and trying 5 sandwiches, and a dessert. Everything. Was. Phenomenal. From the pulled pork poutine, to the lasagna. It all just worked. The owners were extremely friendly more than hospitable, Aly chatted with us and was extremely friendly. I will be having daydreams about this place until they open a location in my hometown. The prices were more than fair, and the service was top notch. I can't say this enough. Just eat here, you will not be disappointed. The cheesecake was a rollercoaster for my senses. The tastes and textures. Wow.
Stumbled across this joint as I was strolling the block. And unfortunately for myself, I was pushed for time so I had to take it to go. I ordered the featured special they have for this month in honour of cinco de mayo. As exciting as my life currently is this was definitely one of the best choices I have made recently. My sandwich had a great punch of spice drizzled with a guac sauce that just melted in my mouth. Wish I could have dined in to have fully enjoyed my sandwich but perhaps another time! Staff was super helpful since I don't know much of the French language. Service was fast and wait time was accurate.
We all know grilled cheese is some fast but satisfying midnight snack. It’s quick and simple. Last few years, there had been some food truck popping up in Montreal that specialized in grilled cheese, but none of them really wooed me. The best one I had was from Le Cheese . But the grilled cheese game didn’t stop at Le Cheese. MLT DWN, based in Kingston, opened up their doors on Mont-Royal and is making one of the most gourmet grilled cheese I’ve tasted!
I discovered MTLDWN when I was invited there to write a blog post about the restaurant. Not only are the sandwiches delicious, original and well made, the owners Aly and Rahim are amazing and seem to take great pride in what they do. I contacted them again for a sponsorship a few weeks after meeting them for the first time and they exceeded absolutely all of my expectations. Lovely place and lovely people, you should definitely eat there!
As different as we all are, there are some memories, especially childhood memories that remain the same for all of us. They evoke a simpler time when our biggest concern was whether or not we could sneak in another cookie before dinner without getting into any trouble. Let us introduce you to MLT DWN, a new restaurant from a team of brothers that is serving gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, all made on site. This is fast food comfort food, and by fast food we mean that it’s quick to come out of the kitchen, this isn’t junk food. These guys came all the way from Ottawa to impress Montreal with their unique grilled cheese sandwiches. And you know that we love a good grilled cheese!

How can grilled cheese be gourmet? This is the first question that popped up in my mind when I first encounter MLT DWN located inside Rideau Centre's new dining hall in Ottawa. In my review, I wrote after eating the grilled cheese sandwich at MLT DWN, the taste and texture was hundred times better than the ones in Montreal. I was hoping one day that MLT DWN's food will make its way to Montreal: it's original and it's a breath of fresh air for Montreal food scene! This hope has now become a reality when I got the invitation from co-owner Aly Moloo to go to the soft opening of their new restaurant on Mont-Royal E (close to métro Mont-Royal).
