Easily the best sushi in Montreal. Plus great Japanese comfort food: the eggplant plate (starter) is really tasty, so are the Udons. I highly recommend the oyakodon and the tempuras. Finally, don't miss the shabu-shabu.
This is the perfect place for good sushi, not too expensive, and fresh. Love their scallop sushi, we order it every time. Their tempura was disappointing last time. But it used to be so flaky and light, the best in town. I hope that next time the tempura will be as good as previous times. The soups were ok, did not order it again. Reservation is a must!
The steam egg is overcooked. The teriyaki beef tastes good. The sashimi is fresh. Yet, this place is more known for their katsudon. If you want a sure value, go with katsudon.
Very traditional japanese. Unsuperficial decor, service, and presentation. Everything is basic japanese brasserie style, but quite unique and flavorful. Expect excellent food with no artificial trimmings.
Finally had a chance to try this place and it was amazing. All the staff were Japanese and food is also real Japanese that made me nostalgic of my home country. We had sushi platter and chawan-mushi, saury and some sashimi. Their sushi is the best in Canada, I'd say. Fish is fresh and bery generous portion. I've never had sushi like that in Canada. The service was very nice, attentive and warm. My husband loved this place too. The chef was very nice as well. We are very glad to find a great sushi restaurant in Montreal.
Great!. Bar none, the best sushi I have had in Montreal.
Loved it! Despite the few attempts of going and the first time it was closed (Monday) and the second attempt it was closing (9:30). Ordered their simple grilled squid and octopus sunomono salad as starters. Delicate yet tasteful! Very pleasing! Sushi and sashimi were well cut and amazingly fresh! Spicy Scallop was delicious and their plates were generous. Friendly staff! Can't wait to go back :)
Makia mania. I love a great maki roll, especially creative rolls with interesting ingredients and sauces. These maki rolls might not have been the most creative, but they tasted very fresh and were quite good. They also were unusually thick pieces (diameter-wise); impossible to eat in one bite. This made for some funny chopsticks ballet. Then I remember a sushi chef once telling me that it's ok to pick up maki with your fingers. I recommend doing this. The star of the show was the shrimp and vegetable tempura entree my husband and I shared. The shrimp tempura was probably the best I've ever had. So light and crispy, not a hint of greasiness. Not a ton of tables, so reservations recommended, at least at night. Also be persistent! The unassuming basement location and
tiny sign made it a little hard to find. All in all, the two of us ate till we were bursting ... All for $60 including tip.
Best sushi place!. Sushi and Sashimi are extremely fresh. The maki sizes are big. There are also quite a variety of hot dishes to choose from. The resto is always packed and the wait is always worth it.
Bistro Japonais Furusato qualifies as a hidden gem in every sense of the word. It a very un-presuming exterior, down an unmarked flight of steps with a plain paper sign on the door indicating the restaurant. Inside is a cozy, tastefully decorated Japanese restaurant with a small sushi bar. This restaurant is definitely worth discovering. The miso soup was normal. The nigiri we ordered is where the pleasant experiences began. The tuna was plentiful, fresh and tasty with a lovely red colour. The eel was meaty and had a good taste and wasn’t overburdened with too much sauce. The sheer size of the nigiri pieces (the meat as well as the rice) were what impressed me so much. The prices look high on the menu but the quantity is proportionate, which makes the quality pure bonus! We got a roll which contained tuna tempura. I had admittedly expected the tuna to be raw as most restaurants would serve the same fish that goes in the nigiri. The tuna was cooked, though, which originally surprised me
This place is tiny and it opens at 11h45 AM so you should get there by 11h40 to be sure to have a spot. You can make reservations and so you get in and half the tables are always reserved! I've been there with my dad at least 10 times and we've always been satisfied.
This is the best black sesame ice cream I have ever had. THE.BEST. Made or bought, I’m not sure; I was preparing myself for a regular scoop of ice cream that resembled Oreo ice cream with a hint of smokeyness and sesame taste. My friend and I were both surprised when the waitress set down our bowls and we both said to each other in unison, “IT’S BLACK!”. I don’t know where it’s from, but I’m on a mission to find out, the absolute best I’ve ever had.
