Honestly, best damn 3$ I have ever spent. I must now add the Tempeh Satay stick to my list of addictions (chocolate being the other). Just passing by the Atwater market, I got attracted by the obvious hype around the SB kiosque and needed a little taste. I almost ate the little paper sauce cup it was so delicious. I would eat this at every meal and as I'm typing this recommendation, I got drool on my keyboard.

First time trying Singaporean food and I loved it! We had the steamed buns, spare ribs, papaya salad, tempeh, beef braised in coconut milk, and chicken curry. Everything was excellent. The peanut sauce is the best I ever had and the beef was on point, a good kick to it. Also have to say that I loved that the chicken was bone-in, really moist and flavorful. Will definitely be going back.

They are such a bunch of cool guys. Alex is the best. We asked Alex for a bowl of noodles, Alex threw in a complimentary plate of satay, and a coconut dessert and thanked us for coming down. The food was great. The ambience was awesome. The guys at the place were the best.

I chose Satay Brothers for my bday supper with son Juliano tonight after seeing a review on tv a few months ago and was nicely surprised. The flavors are exceptional and on point making it well worth the detour from South Shore. I had been wanting to try the pork belly steam buns and was not dissappointed. Every dish was carefully executed with fresh ingredients, your taste buds get all excited and i could have easily tried more plates but had to hold back after papaya salad, satay meat sticks, curry rice & soup!!! Unfortunately i had to share the 2 buns with Juliano. Going back real soon for more , im addicted already!!!

Seriously, I regret not coming sooner to this restaurant filled with delicious food and energetic people. We tasted everything! But my favourite dish was the braised beef. It reminded me of my Hungarian stew. I felt like at home. I'll be back Satay Brothers. I'll bring my tribe!

My fiancé and I decided to try this place out of a whim on a Thursday night at around 7pm. It was busy but we got greeted and seated super quickly. Super friendly service, we ordered a few plates to share as everything looked amazing on their menu. The waiter also proposed their special of the night which was a bowl of clams, my fiancé took that and it was amazing. We also had the pork belly steam buns, Laksa soup, papaya salad and tempeh chicken brochette. We both enjoyed our experience there and would return with friends for sure!

Delicious food and amazing people! We ordered for a Laksa with Chicken (Chili shrimp coconut milk soup) and Alex gave us chicken satay and the Kueh Benka (Tapioca with butter and shaved coconut) as complimentary! We had the most delightful experience of having wonderful food served with radiant smiles by the friendliest staff we have ever come across. Thanks, Alex for giving us such a happy meal time today!

This is hands down by far the best and my favourite restaurant to share a meal with friends and lovers and even famil, though mine are all in BC ! I am an ex-chef in a wheelchair and I have been going to eat at Satay Brothers since it had an outdoor stall in behind Atwater Public Market. The restaurant on Notre Dam is ever so accomanating to me in helping me to get my electric wheelchair into the restaurant which is no mean feat !

Whether it is The Most Popular Restaurants Stall in the Atwater Public Market for lunchtime or whether it is the Restaurant on Notre Dam street right next to Jean Coutu Pharmacy for lunch or dinner the eats offered by the Satay Brothers is always the treat that we all deserve more often than not
! I have alway been overly pleased with all of the menu items at the Restaurant or the Daily Fresh menu offered at the Market, I would actually go one step further in that this recreation of Singapore Street Food with the accompanying heat in spicyness should the diner require it to be Authentic Singaporean Mana Street Creations that keep me coming back for more ! For my dollar this is in my Top 10 Restaurants in the Province of Quebec and more officially in the Top 100 Restaurants in all of Canada a spot that the Staff and Management deserves whole heartedly !!!

Do yourselves a huge favour and go to Satay Brothers whether in the Atwater Public Market, the Restaurant on Notre Dam or now even in the New McGill Hospital Centre ! Go and brave the weather or the lineups that do happen with the Best that Montréal Restaurants have to offer. You will not regret your choice even after a wait !!!

Fantastic place. First time here, staff knows their stuff, we were seated pretty quickly but it gets busy fast. The salads are big and (apparently) delicious, but the Laksa was absolutely the highlight for me. Coconut milk and chicken soup, with a little kick, and a bowlful of yummy goodness. It's quite filling, so just the Laksa might be enough, depending on your belly. Speaking of bellies - the pork belly buns were very good, but I kinda expected the meat to be a little more juicy - it was on the dry side. It's a small bun. Overall, great experience. Price: slightly on the high side for some things, but more or less reasonable.

This is truly the gem of the St. Henri area - the food and cocktails are amazing - definitely makes one want to return again and again. The staff are really friendly and the decor is kitschy in a charming way. The music is a bit loud but the song selection is on point.

I definitely loved this place! I went during summer to Atwater market with a friend and we tried Laksa Lemak (a soup) which was delicious and spicy enough to enjoy. It's a popular place so we had to wait for 20 min to order but the day was nice so it wasn't such a big deal. I really recommend this place!

I think one of the things that makes satay brothers so good is that Malaysian food is something you've probably never had before them, and you suddenly realised that it's crazy you've gone all this time without trying it. Their pork buns are delicious, and their seafood platters are great as well. Nice to huddle down at Atwater Market in summer for a bite.

Amazing buns. Laksa was delicious. I like sour, but the green papaya salad had a bit too much lime and not enough tamarind for me. Overall definitely not a disappointment, having been to Malaysia and often eating Malaysian food when I can find it. Try it.

Last week, I partied way too hard. Like, WAY. Ugh. I remember tequila shots. And more tequila shots. It wasn't pretty. This level of drunkeredness (yes, this is an AWESOME made up word) only meant one thing: a huge hangover. No amount of water or tylenol would fix what was to become the winner of all hangovers: a two-day one. Ugh. I needed food. Good food on the cheap side. As I've said before, it seems like most of the restaurants in the South-West are closed on Sunday so Lea and I had to try to find la perle rare as we say in French. Loosely translated, a gem, nay, the holy grail! The winner of this lengthy search was none other than Satay Brothers.

The steamed buns at Satay Brothers are spectacular. I can not believe how amazing they were. The balance is impeccable. The bun is so soft, the meat perfectly seasoned, cucumber and cilantro for freshness, the sauce is amazingly flavoured with just the right amount. Over all a truly impeccable delight. Wow.

We started with a pint of Belgian Moon, pale ale with hints of orange and citrus which went well with our starters. Cool and refreshing the beer it hit the spot and quenched our thirst. We started with Steamed Pork Buns for $9.99, two steamed buns with crispy sautéed pork belly, copious amounts of coriander and cucumber in light vinaigrette of rice vinegar. Brains ordered the Gado Gado for $8.99 a plate of assorted vegetables like green beans, bean sprouts tofu and ramen noodles in Satay sauce. She loved the flavors and especially the sauce. In addition we ordered the Satay Ayama for $5.50 a chicken Brochette with peanut sauce, which again did not disappoint us. Only, it was not enough so we ordered another round of Steamed Pork Buns to satisfy our cravings and get our fill till the next time we were around here. What Brains and I enjoyed the most about this location of The Satay Bros was the festive atmosphere. The place is not pretentious and appeals to the millennial crowd which makes it hip and cool. Decorated in red with red and white walls and Chinese paper lanterns, it may seem kitschy to some but it is vibrant and fun

The food is delicious and the atmosphere is lively and fun! The food is tapas style but they have full plate options as well! The tables are large so you sit with other people. It was a bit of a wait to be seated and we were only two. Also, The drink menu which is written above the entrance on the wall is not clear as to what the drink entails which made ordering one a hassle. Definitely would go again!

I have been an ardant lover of Satay Brothers since they started up in the Atwater Public Market.  I can be found at the side of the booth most summer days, the guy in the electric wheelchair.   This is by far the best restaurant in the entire sud-ouest of Montréal, par none and I know my food as I worked for 25 years in the hotel food and beveragge business.

The restaurant is the most sure bet any day you need to spice up your life a bit with some South West Asain fare.  I have been with my Girlfriend a few times and also with friends and business contacts as this is the place for a good late lunch.  Dinner a few weeks before the holidays blew away my West Coast friends they have never had such wonderful atmosphere. wonderous meal and knowledgable and, kind staff from the Kitchen and the Service Area too.

This restaurant serves authentic Asian food, it kept the essence of Asian food with a touch of innovation from western food. Most of their dishes are quick to prepare with a lot pre cooked ingredients. So it lies somewhere between a fast food outlet and a full blown restaurant. Ideal for breakfast or lunch. What's amazing is that the owner and staff of the restaurant are mostly non-Asian, but their restaurant exhibit more Asian culture elements both in terms of deco and food than many Asian restaurant run by Asians. I ordered a steamed bun pork sandwich and a seafood soup. The steamed bun was quite good but a bit too small, the soup is quite spicy similar to Thai style Tom yum soup with bean sprouts, a small piece of pickled stink tofu curd,a half boiled egg and a few chunks of fritters, a true Asian delight. The only down side is that the price isn't cheap and portion isn't big either, so you might still feel hungry after spending almost 20 bucks on the food.

Belle ambiance, staff souriant! Bref, j'y retourne c'est sûr!

All dishes are meant to be shared so it's best to go as a group so you can order many things.  Everything was good, but the highlights were: fried prawn dumplings, laksa and the papaya salad.  The garlic chinese brocoli is also underrated and i recommend it.

The place is busy so go early if you want to avoid the wait.

After spending the day outside, taking in the sun, Diva #2 and G-Spot were getting a little hungry. Or rather, Diva #2 was hungry and made G-Spot change her dinner date plans. But it was also the perfect opportunity to meet G-Spot’s new beau and torture him a bit!. We headed to the brick and mortar of Satay Brothers on Notre-Dame Ouest. They also have a location in the Atwater market which is open during the summer months but we chose the original location. Satay Brothers serves authentic South Asian cuisine and more importantly, when dining with someone with self-inflicted dietary restrictions, vegetarian options.

Everything was delicious and we especially enjoyed the skewers and bao (my new favorite snack!) However be warned, when they say spicy - they mean it!

Fun and relaxed atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Love, love, love. If you are in Montreal and haven't visited this spot, you need to go today for lunch or dinner....or both!! We visited for lunch and made sure we made the most of it. We went for the Papaya salad, pork bun, chicken satay and the Kee goreng which is a noodle dish. It was superbly amazing. Even though I am not a big pork bun fan ( I know what's wrong with me right?) I really enjoyed this one. I advocated for the papaya salad as when they are right, with the sweet, sour flavours together..mmmmm, so good. Definitely a salad that pushes the salad boundaries and very bright compared to other dishes. The stays was ridiculous and it was all about the dipping sauce. It was a little dense but who cares un was un fricking amaze balls tasty. And the noodles. I love me a good stir fry noodle dish. Not too heavy but perfect compliment to everyone else. Unfortunately, the 2 guys next to us didn't get served and left, it's unfortunate as it was a great meal. Perhaps we all came in at the same time and the restaurant got totally slammed but you shouldn't miss clientele as a server. That wouldn't deter us from going back but perhaps mgmt reads this so that they are aware....the guys seemed busy. all that to say we we love this spot. Nice to have Asian without it being totally deep fried and laden in sauces. Well done Satay Brothers!

Asian Perfection!. Satay Brothers is a wonderful, friendly and incredibly delicious. From their very popular stand during the Summer, at the Atwater Market. To their recently renovated location on St.Henri.
Their food is packed with flavor, as well as simple yet beautifully presented. With their kind and wonderful sense of humor and kindness, never a dull moment seeing the very hard working guys behind Satay Brothers.
Their steamed buns, with tender flavorful pork belly, is outstanding. You like some kick? Definitely order their Laksa soup, it packs a great deal of heat, with loads of flavor. A must try!

4/5 for Satay Brothers. Here's what I've been able to gather about Satay Brothers on my own: This restaurant started out as a food stand in the Atwater Market, one of the city's biggest and best farmers' markets. It was opened by two brothers and people loved their take on Singaporean street food. Finally they opened their own restaurant only recently in the Sud-Ouest. In fact, it was voted as the #4 Best New Restaurant 2013 by Cult MTL, which is how I heard about it. I've gotten the impression that the public was very excited about their transition into a real brick and mortar location, but I am also to believe that the Atwater stand is also still operational, at least in the summertime. Unfortunately for me, I missed all of this hype and simply strolled into the restaurant without all of the excitement and anticipation behind my visit.
The location isn't anything glamorous from the outside and there really isn't a lot else located around this spot. The tip-off that you've found the right place is the red lantern hanging outside above the front door. Once inside, you're greeted with a warm and friendly room, bright with red paint and decidedly tropical and Asian in it's theme. We were seated at a table for two by the window and began to take in the chalkboard menu on the wall. The selection is small and the prices are quite low - it's also important to note that they only accept cash as payment. While there are only a few key dishes on their menu, the variety is quite impressive, with each dish being completely different from the last.

I got a Coco Pure ($2.61) to drink which arrived in a can. In my opinion, coconut water is just as refreshing as plain water. You can't go wrong with this sweet and nutty beverage. They also offer other tropical fruit juices such as lychee and passion fruit, which would be equally good choices.

Asian food is typically best consumed family-style, so my husband and I selected four of their dishes and were told that we should have enough food for both of us. The food came up after only a short wait and the first to arrive was the Laksa Lemak ($9.13). Beautiful, red-hot and dangerous. Laksa is a popular spicy noodle soup in south-east Asian culture. Lemak style refers to the use of coconut milk in the broth. They also make their own sambal (chili sauce) in-house, which I found very exciting. The soup consisted of a tangle of noodles and bean sprouts with a few garnishes on top including a quail egg. The flavours were hugely spicy and sweet, holding nothing back. Certainly the correct bowl to warm you up on a cold winter's day. Next time I'd be interested in trying the Mee Goreng instead, a fried noodle dish.

Next was the Green Papaya Salad ($6.09). This was an excellent way to bring some freshness into the meal, and I'd always wanted to try this type of salad. The twirl of long strands of shredded papaya were a lot more vinegary than I'd expected, almost as if it had been pickled. The dish is slightly tangy, with the fruit remaining quite crisp. I enjoyed the crunch of the peanuts as well.

Surely we wouldn't visit a restaurant called "Satay Brothers" and not try the satay. Satay du Jour ($6.09 for 3). The name of the dish suggests that they offer different takes on satay each day, possibly with different meats and/or marinades. The three skewers of cubed chicken arrived with house-made peanut sauce and some crunchy cucumber. To be honest, I've found satay to be quite boring in the past. But this satay opened my eyes to what it could be when done well. The meat itself was gorgeously tender and expertly seasoned with a caramelized, glaze-like coating. Delicious grill flavour was evident and they tasted perfect when coated in peanut sauce. If you need some satay convincing like I did, let the brothers of satay show you the way. ;)

Lastly, we had the Steamed Pork Buns ($6.96 for 2). This was a bit of a funny coincidence for us because we had just been listening to a podcast where the hosts were talking about how much they love pork buns, and were remarking that we'd never tried them. I sure am glad that we've been let in on this delicious secret! You'll often see these buns enclosing the meat completely, almost more like a dumpling, whereas these ones were served a little bit more like a taco. Instead of the meat being shredded up inside, this was a gloriously saucy and savoury slab of pork, cushioned inside a pillowy-light bun and alive with Asian flavour. So simple and certainly street food, yet so impossibly delicious. These are a must-try.

I would still love to visit their stand at Atwater to compare any differences, but this Singaporean food was huge on flavours, low on price and boldly exciting. They already seem to have a vast amount of loyal followers and will surely continue to do well.

Did I like it? No, I LOVED it!! Pork buns are simply the best, great satay with the perfect sauce, very tasty laksa lemak. I will certainly come back many times here. It reminded me the delicious food I eat when I travel in Asia. It might be far from mile end, plateau but as the people next to us were saying "it's worth taking a cab to have lunch here" :)

Incontournable.

One of my favourite asian spots in Montreal! Very well priced for the quality of the food offered. Can't go to satay bros and not try the laksa, it hits every spot on your palette!! Never been disappointed, and I'm an objective regular..

Specialization is almost always good. Thai specializing in Satay and they do it well. Wait times and lines can be annoying but the food is spicy and good, MB rating 7.

While the food here is usually very good, today's Laksa lacked some pizzaz. The broth was good but needed a burst of lime juice or some acidic flavor. I counted 1.5 shrimps, come on guys - lets not be stingy. And the pork puffs were stale. It was still good but could have been boomtastic.

Delicious BBQ skewers and cold beer (Creemore)--perfect for a hot summer day at the market. We tried one of the salads and weren't terribly impressed (the papaya could have used less vinegar), but if you stick to what they're good at when ordering -- which is, of course, satay -- you can't go wrong.

Overall Good. The interior is very simple, cozy and intimate, not to mention tiny. There are three communal tables and a small spot on the bar to choose from, just about enough to seat 30 people at most.

The wall menu, written on a chalkboard, features a few fan favorites such as the satay chicken skewers and steam buns, as well as other Southeast Asian dishes and a section for changing specials.

We went with the Tofu Steamed Buns (a hit), Laksa Lemak soup (a classic!) and Mee Goreng noodles (so-so).

Tasty food, but worth the wait?. Tried Satay Brothers for the first time recently. The food was very tasty, but not sure I'd go out of my way for it... and the waiting time was extremely long. Both to order and to get the food.

I finally got the chance to try this place out after hearing all the hype about it. You can tell it is a trendy spot with a bunch of brothers and friends having fun which is cool. I was lucky enough to go on a Monday afternoon so the wait wasn't too long at all. I tried the basics, satay of the day, the steamed pork bun and the green papaya salad. I give the food a thumbs up. It was good but wasn't amazing by any means. If I am in the area and no line up I would have it again. I wouldn't go out of my way or wait in a giant line up how ever.

Little summer gem hidden within the atwater market. Everything on the menu is delicious and different, full of flavor yet subtle. Discovering this place unexpectedly was a real treat. I can honestly say that this place blew me away... Never had anything like this before. You owe it to yourself to try this joint.

I so desperately want to be one of the guys. Alex Winnicki and Mat Winnicki, the life forces behind this restaurant, to me seem like the coolest kids on the block.  Although I would be of no help to them in the kitchen as I can barely fry an egg (yes the daughter of a chef is completely incompetent with anything above the level of a toaster). I would fit right in because I am fairly certain we share mutual love and respect for home cooking. Their Singaporean soul is well tasted in their Southeast Asian food restaurant and Atwater food stand. I had never heard of the Malay Peninsula until discovery of these bros specialties and now I’m dying to check it out. And, to boot: What woman wouldn’t appreciate that the impetus for their venture was their mother’s recipes and resources? Cue “awe” s

The Satay Brothers' food kiosk was a rare place that we actually loved from the first try. Based on tonight's dinner, we can confidently say that the brothers are still on the right track with their new establishment. This one is bound to be a permanent fixture in the burgeoning Saint-Henri neighborhood.

Satay Brothers specializes in Singaporean cuisine - a cuisine with over 50 national dishes representing the ethnic diversity of this country. With that many dishes, food is central to their culture. You can find a foretaste of these dishes here at Satay Brothers. During summertime, it has a food stand located at the Atwater market, which stays true to the concept of a hawker centre. During the cold seasons, they have a small unmarked restaurant located on rue Saint-Jacques. Satay, a staple among hawkers in Singapore, consists of cubed meats that is marinated, skewered and then grilled. This is served with a gingery peanut butter sauce and freshly cut cucumber. The pork skewers were tender and juicy with a perfectly sweetened glaze. The grilled flavour was quite pleasant and noticeable. The green papaya salad is a nice refreshing appetizer to start off the meal and to get your palate started - crisp, tangy, nice crunch from the toasted peanuts with the right amount of acidity to bring t

I had heard a lot about the brothers last summer already but didn’t have the chance to make it to the Atwater market to taste their concoctions. When they made a comeback this summer, I headed there right away. I was blown away by how good the food is. Set up in the outdoor (covered) part of the Atwater market, the two brothers, Mat and Alex are dishing out amazing Singaporean street food with help and inspiration from their mother.

Very tasty satay. The side peanut sauce was on point as well. Don't hesitate to inquire about the special fried rice of the day. It's a great option for a side or dish to share. Also love the fact that you can cash out using the QR code on your table without having to flag a server. Great idea to add fluidity in service and let people decide when they are ready for the bill.
