Review Qing Hua Dumpling - Montreal

Lindsey Ross
Delicious and exactly what I anticipated. We had 8 people on a Saturday evening, and were lucky to get a big table together. I had the curry beef dumplings + the chicken and coriander dumplings. I believe everyone in our group liked the curry versions of what they orderes best. The service was slick and friendly, and the price was reasonable for the food. The only downside was wait times for some to get their food. There were some people who came after we ordered and received their dumplings before us. There doesn't seem to be a real first come first serve system, which can be frustrating.

Came in just to get a taste so we got the Dumpling Sampler which came with 15 of the chef's choice of dumplings. Among the sampler we got a shrimp/pork/chive, pork/corn, pork/scallion, pork/chives, pork/dill, and curry beef. All of the dumplings were tasty and seasoned well. I prefer this spot over Sammi & Soupe. The interior is nice and they have a cocktails menu too. One complaint is the dining area smells a bit like cigarette smoke which I think came from the kitchen.

My favorite restaurant, but I suggest businesses pay attention to the hygiene of food and tableware. Chili cups are disgusting. Today, we ordered pork and beef dumplings. The beef tastes sour. This is not the original taste of beef, so the beef filling may deteriorate. When I got home, I had diarrhea.🤦🏼‍♂️

(Ordered on Ubereats) Dumplings: Very good, good ratio of dough and filling, properly cooked Peanut sauce: It was only peanut butter and a bit of sesame sauce. Not worth 3$ extra. Good sauce if you order the dumplings home and make your own peanut sauce. Soy sauce and chili oil: Good basic sauce, not spicy at all Fair price if you don't order on ubereats :)

Dumplings were juicy, but the top part of dumpling was very doughy and didn't taste fresh. Sauces were good and quantity for price is great. Also please correct the menu: poireau is leek in english and chives is ciboulette in french

For a first time dumpling eater, this was an extremely interesting experience for me.I have never been a fan of them, but my Girlfriend kept encouraging me to go,and to be honest, while I didn't enjoy my dumplings much,I really enjoyed my Girlfriends dumplings with coriander.Plusss, the interior deco felt tranquil and slightly sophisticated. Would definitely recommend investing!

Very good restaurant, good food and very kind waiters. Unfortunately they don't have Miso soup in their menu, and I find that there are better dumpling places in the area.

Came here Thursday at around 6 pm for a quick bite (my first time ever at any of this chain’s locations). Place had a few patrons seated and quietly enjoying their dishes, and a couple of guys handling the guests while 3-4 cooks in the back were busy making the dumplings et al. Ordered the seaweed salad and a selection from the Chef’s Menu and received a hot takeout platter with the juiciest steamed dumplings I’ve ever tasted (no way of identifying what flavours I got unfortunately)! Thank you Qing Hua for the nice surprise. My only reservation was the slow reaction time from the staff to some obvious, albeit uncommon requests (possibility of having a seafood-free mixed platter, a to-go cup for green tea). But only an honest effort to each request, so five stars for turning up tasty food in this university crowd-friendly eatery. Keep it up, I’ll be back soon!

Not a great place. The dumplings are hard and have little soup inside. They changed chef. Before they were Canton ppl. Now, its from Shanghaï. The dumplings are too thick. Bad customer service. Even though they are tired, they should not get angry with the clients. Either hire more ppl or close the damn place!
Nathalie Rochefort
I always said that these were the best but after last night's visit I can no longer say that. Things have changed there. Not the same people in the kitchen
Melanie Der
Amazing handmade dumpling quality for a very affordable price. Dumpling wrapping is not too thick, good amount of filling. One of the best handmade dumplings I've had!
Maria Isabel Gonzalez
Amazing dumpligs, awful service! A big group was sitting next to our table. The restaurant made the big group pay for pir bill and we also paid for our food. The waiter yelled at my friends because we were waiting for other friends to join us. I have never received such a bad service ever!
Alex Kimchi
La nourriture est ok mais sans plus. Le service est inexistant.
John B Samulack
It’s a nice little place with freshly made dumplings.
Taryn Kolodny
The best place for dumplings in montreal ! Love having them on a cold, winter night !
Ian Rogers
Though some people might tell you otherwise, these are the best dumplings to be had in Montreal. Service is sketchy, but the dumplings are worth it.
Adrien Garneau-Rémillard
Very good dumplings !! Best in town for the price ! although the staff is competent, a little smile is always a plus for the customer ;-)
Shana Nicole
Great food - try the coleslaw + carrot salad! Shrimp/pork/cilantro dumplings are delish!
Jack Ramírez
Lugar ideal para parejas, el servicio podría ser mejor, pero el sabor y el precio lo valen
Nomi Ahronheim
The best Delicious and very plentiful Excellent service
Nishtha Dutt
Dumplings are Great, but wait time is more than 60 minutes.
Naomi Hamelton
Les dumplings Veau coriandre frits étaient exquis! Cependant, le service, en anglais seulement, était MAUVAIS. On mange et on quitte sans s'éterniser.
Alexandre Mathieu
Food is amazing, service is very weak. Will try to find alternatives restaurants.
Michel Bergeron
Very tasty food and the service was good too.
Didem Tuncer
Annenizin mantısını özlediyseniz, buraya gelin. Best dumplings in MTL and I prefer fried dumplings.

I'm giving it a one star, that is because those that are writing a review about this restaurant are always forgeting  to write about the price of the item's. One person wrote" The portion was very generous (15 dumplings) and the price was fair." How much was fair? So many reviews lack details about the price, quality, quantity of what he/she is eating.

I went to Qing Hua on a chilly winter evening and it was nice to enter the cozy, relaxed atmosphere. The menu selection is impressive. The service was prompt and courteous. I opted for the pork, shrimp and cilantro dumplings, steamed. The portion was very generous (15 dumplings) and the price was fair. While the dumpling casing could have been thinner, in my view, the filling was flavourful. This is solid comfort food and the price is right for an inexpensive, tasty meal.
Kitsune
Ordered chicken and coriander dumpling. Went for steamed version. The first few minutes, the dumpling tasted juicy and moist but after 5-10 minutes, the dumpling wrap got hard and was difficult to chew.
Yasmina Saddi
Maybe not the most tempting restaurant in town however the dumplings were delicious.<br/>If you feel like enjoying good food wether or not you are in a nice setting with a perfect service than I would definitely recommend this place

Shocking just how bad our experiences have been here. The first time we went we sat and waited for 20 minutes without any service, when we finally got the server's attention (out of sheer frustration) he put the blame on us saying it should be us to grab him when we are ready to order. That's a first for me in Canada, I thought we were going to a restaurant to be served, not to beg to be served. So, we went back another time to give this place a second chance to redeem itself but no, our first set of dumplings came in a bout 15 minutes, the second came about 20 minutes later BURNT TO A CRISP, not even exaggerating. We threw in the towel, told them we wouldn't pay for that dish and the nonchalance of the server and cashier was mind boggling. Not one apology or offer of any kind. Won't be returning.  I just wish I had proof of the charred bottoms of the dumplings for proof.
Oli
I'm actually shocked that more people don't leave bad reviews here. We've been twice, the first time the service was absolutely terrible, the owner/waiter man ignored us for like 30mins after sitting down and tried to make us feel like we're supposed to grab his arm, we actually argued in front of everyone, then the food came and it was good. We just went again like 6 months later because we thought it was just an off night, but no. It took like 30mins to get our first dish (the place was half full), then we finished and waited another 15mins to get our second dish which was totally burned so we didn't even eat it. We got up and left immediately, refused to pay for the burned one and will never return. Unbelievable how little that guy cares. Sorry we didn't take photos of the burned dumplings.
Johnny
Service was slow and the dumplings were just okay. Many of tops were a bit dry and they were open which meant the meat was dry.<br/>Besides that it was cheap. However there are other dumpling places that cost about the same but have better food.
Ruiling Zhu
The steam dumplings are alright. But the would dumplings I had are over cooked. I can taste it from the melting skin. And... I had the mixed one but obviously not a wise choice

I was looking for the best dumpling place in Montreal online and found this one. I came in with high expectations (food wise) and they were easily fulfilled. This place is AMAZING. We got steamed pork and dill, tastes like pork just a little hint of dill. The best way to eat the dumpling is to suck the soup out (which is beyond delicious), then eat the dumpling. We got the beef and onion to go which we ate right away. The price you pay for around $9.99 for 15 dumplings was worth the wait and the quality of the dumplings. We found the service a bit slow. HOWEVER there was a big group before us and we saw through the kitchen window that they made dumplings (as to order we think). So they were super fresh. We also did find the place a bit small and dark but we expected that. <br/><br/>I will definitely be going back when I come back to Montreal.
Chad
Amazing. You go downstairs into a dimly lit and poorly converted old bakery, they seat you and then do their best to pretend you don't exist, but good God the dumplings are good. We tried a mix of styles and flavours, and the curry beef ones were probably the weakest, but everything was still delicious. Good prices for beer too. Will definitely come again the next time I'm in Montreal!
Mankoura
Awesome dumpling house. Everything made fresh and in house.<br/><br/>Have tried many combinations and i would say the pork and coriander wins. They offer options of boiled, steamed (in basket) and pan fried. Boiled is the most popular and delicious. Also try the pickled cucumber sides which are great.<br/><br/>Very fair priced! Service is definitly not their strong point, but who cares if the food speaks volume.<br/>A must! Cheers
Kristen Chernick
delicious wonton soup! best we have ever had. They serve only dumplings and they are delicious and lots of choice to choose from. this was our first time to montreal and this was the first restaurant we chose to eat at for lunch. definitely recommend!
MC Buddy
My husband and I have been there quite often. Let me tell you this place could be so variable. It can be really really good at times, and sometimes not good at all. the quality of the dumplings are not consistent. Good portion. Not pricey. Service is meh. Zero fancy and you may question the cleanliness of the place.
D&G
This is D&G's favorite dumpling place.<br/><br/>The service is rude and place is dark and not super clean. BUT!!! The taste and the texture of the food blinds your mind!!! As you can see the skin is as thin as paper. The stuffing is well flavoured with lot of juice inside.<br/><br/>D&G goes regularly to have dumpling.
Maryssa Pitacciato
Went for lunch today and had an awesome meal. We had the pork and shrimp and the pork and mushroom dumplings. You get a huge portion (15 dumplings in each steam basket) and it's only about 10$. Our tummies were happy and so were our wallets lol. Definitely plan on coming back!
Jonny
I haven't been to Qing Hua for a few years but I'm glad to see it's still as popular as ever. This was THE place where I first discovered my love for dumplings. We came on a Tuesday evening, around 8:00pm, and had to wait to get seats! I couldn't believe how busy they were.<br/><br/>The menu is dumplings, dumplings and more dumplings. Although there is a lunch menu available Monday to Friday (11:00am - 3:00pm).<br/><br/>The inside looks exactly the same. I like how you can peer through the kitchen window and see all the dumplings being made in house. They're lightning fast! We ordered and had our three dishes in no time. We may have gone overboard but hey, leftovers are never bad.<br/><br/>- Shrimps with pork and leek (#21) ($9.99) - we got one order boiled and the other steamed. Each order gets you 15 dumplings and the filling is nicely stuffed. Don't forget these dumplings have soup inside so be careful with your bites.<br/>- Pork and dill (#31) ($8.99) - first time trying out dill in dumplings. Loved it! Not overpowering but the perfect balance. These were my favourite of the night. I need more dill in my life.<br/>- Mix flavour dumpling soup (#3) ($7.99) - I also wanted to try their dumpling soup out which was totally unnecessary for two people (10 dumplings included) but it was way better than expected. They throw in an assortment of dumplings, I'm assuming extras/reject ones but I liked it. The broth was surprisingly light and flavourful.<br/><br/>40 dumplings later (well, with a few for home), we left very satisfied. Qing Hua is the OG when it comes to dumplings in town and I'm happy to report it's still as good as ever.

Small place but good dumplings. This is my 4th time and still will come in future for dumplings.<br/>Crowded during fridays. There is frozen dumplings to take home and boil it.
Hugh L'Anglais
I went to have dumpling yesterday for diner<br/>I had chicken dumpling . Halfway done I had a bad surprise ... There was a piece of glass in the stuffing. I showed the staff...and went to the washroom to get the rest of it out of my mouth... the staff upon my return told me that my meal would be free... they offered to give me another serving but I declined... the experience made me lose my appetite. Since in the back of my mind I wondered if I did not swallow any shards of glass...

If you are craving dumplings, this is the place for you. They have a large selection of either steamed or fried dumplings and they come by batches of 15 for about 7-9$ which is really cheap. The dumplings are quite large too; I could not finish all 15. I especially liked their lamb and coriander dumplings which are one of the more traditional flavors. Other nice ones were the pork and cabbage and beef and curie. Chicken and mushrooms was not bad either, but I really didn’t like a vegetarian one we took (something with leeks I think). The dumplings are freshly made and come steaming hot.
Patrick Lavigne
Excellent dumplings. A great variety. They do take a while to make and service is definitely not their specialty. This place is also not well maintained. At least the kitchen is clean.
Montreal Food Divas
Lately we’ve been on an intense dumpling crawl, trying all the dumplings that we can find in Montreal. Seriously we’ve been out of control, even by our usual chaotic standards! It all started when Diva #1 was enjoying a delightful bowl of ramen at Ramen Misoya, and with it she ordered a side of gyoza, which is a Chinese fried dumpling. She was quickly reminded of her love of these little Asian delights and was soon driving around Montreal and tasting them prepared every which way.
Irina Stepanov
We went there because of the great reviews. The experience was pretty disgusting. Bad service, greasy dumplings, not very clean... never going back.
Valderiz
Decided to try this restaurant because of all the good reviews. The first look at the restaurant, broken wall and almost no lightning, made me go elsewhere. We had two plates of fried dumplings(pork and lamb). They were the most greasy dumplings I ever had. The digestion was awful, never going back.
Pmtomassi13
Service is meh. Dumplings are okay.... I dont know if anyone had the same experience as me going there... but my girlfriend and me ordered the pork and coriander steamed dumplings and the filling (meat/pork) had some weird red/pink sticky thingy every now and then In the "meatballs" ... but the center seemed well cooked so I have no idea what that was...
Mylie
Robert Burke
Great dumplings. They are not really soup dumplings anymore, just regular dumplings, but the dough and the fillings are as good as I have in China. The only Chinese food I can eat in Montreal.
MunchieMario
*The* goto place for dumplings. Plus if you love it you can take home frozen batches for later. Whatever is in that red spicy goop on the table. Put it in your sauce, delish!
Jenny
Delicious dumplings and lots of variety. Average $8.99 for 15 dumplings is a great deal because it's so filling. 3 orders of dumplings was more than sufficient for 4 people! Busy crowd but food is great regardless.
Ricky Sates
Yes.  Go.<br/><br/>Grandmothers tenderly rolling a myriad of gently-seasoned staples into sublime little pockets of steamed love.<br/><br/>Don't expect red carpets or chandeliers.  Just a good old-fashioned dumpling fix.
Yayou
Even though I loved the food, the staff was kind of slow, fidgety & forgetful. But I think we should have expected that since we came one hour before closing time, & it's dumplings...<br/>So you have the choice of ordering 15 pieces with all the same filling, or 15 pieces with 2 different filling. You could have them steamed, boiled or fried. <br/>We ordered so many things, but I do remember the good ones: beef & coriander, beef curry, pork & green onions, and the cucumber salad. All the dumplings were steamed, & tasted amazing. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed dumplings that much!
Sol
Best Dumplings!!! meilleurs Dumplings! <br/>You don't go there for the decor or ambiance but for the FOOD!!! very affordable and super tasty! try it out!
Sourberry
Closest thing thing to xiao long bao that i've had since i lived in Shanghai. Prices are very good, and you can bring some frozen ones home!<br/>Service is a bit wonky but its worth the wait. <br/>My favorite are the chicken and coriander or pork and leek.
Sabine.abougou
The best dumplings I ever had!. I highly recommend the dumpling in this restaurant. Very delicious and tasty especially the ones with shrimp and the vegetarian one. The price is very reasonnable too. The decor is very simple.
Annie Duhamel

Health code service alert. On a Sunday night a decided to try it this dumpling place at Atwater. I didn't get the name of the lady waitress, but she's the one working on the sunday night with her long hair down that touches ppretty much all food she serves, which explains why her hair is dirt oil. Ive never seen such horrible and disguti ng service from a lady. <br/>when she comes to you to take the order, doesnt smile, doesnt greet, just stands there and wait till client speak. i had to wait and look at her in the eye till she speaks. Honestly, rule #1 "Hi". <br/>her dirty fingers from touching money and dirty plates, and from scratching her dirty dry scalp, serves water by picking up the water cups from the rim and just simply place it hard on the table. Poor lady didn't even touch her water the whole time ive observered. <br/><br/>Serving tea cups for a table of four, grabs all four cups with her fingers dip deep inside of them, and like always, drops it hard on the table. <br/><br/>That is just dirt disgusting. <br/><br/>when she served my dumplings, dumps it on my table, again. Doesnt even present or name my meal. And worst part, it wasn't even busy. <br/><br/>At the end of my meal, i ask for the manager/boss but they dont have a single idea where he is. Well i guess the boss is as ignorant as the employees if they don't even know his existant. <br/><br/>This restaurent from Atwater should be highly inspected and close down the store. Please anyone, just go down there and order a few things to analyse the situation. horrible no self respect young waitress.
GLOBEATER
A very popular resto.. As its busy most of the time, try going during off peak times. The decor is simple and dimly lit, the dumplings are fantastic .
C00kie_monster
Such good dumplings. This place is simply amazing. Dumpling options are generally limited in Montreal, and a number of places are disappointing. But Qing Hua is really good. For example, the last time I went I had the pork and mushroom dumplings, and the beef and coriander dumplings (split with someone else and we were both full--the portions are really big). Both flavors were delicious. (they also have good vegetarian dumplings). To make things better, the prices are unbelievable--a serving of dumplings costs on average $8 or so, and one serving is definitely enough to fill you up. Highly recommended. Note they have a location on Lincoln and in Chinatown.
Jerovaro
Sad peanut butter sauce. I was at this restaurant with my boyfriend and we found the decor to be quaint and the atmosphere, inviting. The peanut butter sauce was disappointing, but the dumplings weren't bad; they were presented in a nice basket platter. It's too bad that there weren't any other sauce options for them. Decent price, polite staff.
Jeff Geaton
Not a fan. Heard people talking about this for quite a while. today passing by Chinatown.<br/>the pork dumplings we ordered were ok but the service was uhhhh......
Warren Lisak
Tasty, imperfect dumplings; crappy service. The reviews are consistent with my experience, so I've got that going for me.<br/><br/>The food was good. The dumplings were tasty, if poorly constructed (most of them fell apart, in stark contrast to good dumplings that hold their form even after being bitten into). <br/><br/>The service was not terrible but not good; food arrived quickly and the server was pleasant. However, they screwed up the order (brought two wrong items out of six; 33% fail rate) and when we mentioned this the server tried to argue that 'that's what we ordered' (not in those words, but that was message). We were clear when we ordered, he repeated the order to us, but somehow it was our fault that he either recorded the wrong information or they produced the wrong food (sounds familiar to other reviews). He was not aggressive or mean, but it is very clear that this restaurant has little to no concept of customer service or order handling. Ultimately he offered to correct the order, but we opted to just take the wrong food rather than cause too much of a fuss.<br/><br/>Been there, tried that, no need to go back.
Abricot_mtl
Good dumplings. I always order the pork+mushrooms and pork+green onions dumplings. Fried! Very good<br/>I don't really like them steamed because I think they are too chewy.<br/><br/>Overall, very consistent time over time. I order from them almost every 2 weeks and take the dumplings to go. <br/>The restaurant in itself is like a typical Asian restaurant within that price range: you don't go there for the decor or the service.
Roxiesix
The best dumpling that i ve ever had in Canada!. I went to Montreal with my husband in the last long weekend. This was my very first time been to Montreal. this restaurant was the first restaurant that we tried after 5 hrs driving. We ordered fried pork & mushroom dumplings. But then we realized the best dumplings have to be steamed steam (we saw someone has steam one at next table and it looks so good)!!! Cannot blame the server coz he did recommended us to try stream one. But the one that we tried was amazing too!!! After that my husband told me we have to go there again before we leave and this is the first time that my husband would go back to a restaurant twice in 3 days!!! <br/>We did find a lot of dumpling restaurants in Montreal China Town and we also give another one a try but terrible. So I 'd highly recommend ppl to try this restaurant! <br/>BTW, parking is terrible around this area /__\
Julietsai01
Food and service are really bad. I love dumplings but this restaurant totally changes my mind<br/><br/>First, the hot and sour soup for 7,99$ has almost nothing inside; <br/>Second, the side dish very small and is not even tasty, only salty taste<br/>Third, the pork dumpling is not even fresh, there are residues came out with the juice and it's really disgusting; we can tell that the pork is not fresh at all; we have also vege one, cucumber with egg, and again, only salty taste<br/><br/>The young waitress has no idea of with menu; service was really slow due to the confirmation back and forward<br/>when we asked her to fill our water, this waitress ignore us and we have to ask someone else <br/><br/>My friends and I will never go back to this restaurant and certainly will not recommended to friends as well
Serious Foodie
Decent dumpling but bad service. The waitress was slow and can not priortize herself. Literally waved in front of her and she still did not come over. The lady collecting payment has a bad attitude as well. Dumpling isnt good enough for me to go back.

Dumplings. Great little dumpling place.
Mtlragouttomate
Amazing! i'm going to remember this date. Thanks you for all this fun, it was good (really) but...<br/>1/ a bit complicate to take a seat with them (we switched a few time!!)<br/>2/ they don't say hello, they don t smile<br/>3/ they don't say sorry when they put the hath of a pichet on your ''blonde'' (date)<br/>4/ they pitch the napkins in your face (be careful:this action is done just one time for everybody in the middle of the table)<br/>5/ they don't speak french ( NOT AT ALL) Allooooooo<br/><br/><br/>Well, thank you the dumpling; it was good but I will never come back ( or maybe with a new date)...
Aaronstamboulieh
Unforgivable service. Been several times, latest time was the last straw. Waited a long time to be seated (even though there were empty tables), the water tasted absolutely horrible (none at our table could drink it), and the waitress was among the rudest I've ever encountered. We asked for a Coke, she never brought it. When we wanted to ask a question, she walked by with her finger up to indicate one minute, never came back.<br/><br/>The dumplings themselves are always OK, but after how they treated us, I'm not going back to this location.
Olivier Rioux
Great dumplings!. We really enjoyed the dumplings here. We had the coriander lamb, curry beef and pork and chives, and they were all very good. The dumplings are prepared to order and the different ingredients really stand out. Service was OK but they had high chairs which is a plus for us. Will be back!
VanT
I called for a takeout and they told me that it will be ready in 15-20 minutes. I arrived there 30 mins later and I couldn't pay because the cashier wasn't there and they made me wait for 45 mins just to pay. And the cashier was rude and didn't even care. They don't treat you well over there. My dumplings and soup were cold.
Ss.gg
Arrogant servers. This place is worst in service, they give a dam about their clients. They behave as if they are doing favour by providing food for free. <br/><br/>Really pathetic place to visit, I would recommend to visit China town branch instead av. lincoln.
Quecheekid
My favourite. The best dumplings in Montreal--hands down. So the place has no charm--so the service is a bit slow Go there for the dumplings I love the lamb coriander and the cabbage/mushroom both steamed My partner loves the tofu topped with chili spice as an appetizer They make their chili spice It is addictive--but they wouldn't sell me a carton So I keep coming back for more
35sabrina
Chinese food lover. I'd like to say ive never actually been inside the restruant. My twin sister brought hone left over dumplings, they were so tasty. I dont think you could really go wrong with the food here. Not sure about service.
Jerome
Great Food! Filthy Restrooms!!. The bathrooms are freakin' disgusting!! The Women's was being 'renovated' and the door was off and it looked funky inside. We all had to use the Men's and it was gross and unacceptable. The women and men in our group found it below a dive bar restroom status and way to dirty for a restaurant. This needs to be corrected ASAP! It made us all wonder what the kitchen is like!!! The food is fantastic but I dint think any of us will return.:( I took photos but you don't want to see them!!
Acchaladka
Quality dumplings and awful service. Lincoln location has consistently bad service and it's got to the point where I avoid this location. I've complained to the managers and walked out once - it was that ad one day. Chinatown location is fine so far (three visits) and dumplings are as good.
O
Horrible service, not so good food. Overall experience 4/10!
Pavel Sokov
Awesome dumplings, good selection, weak service. Service is not really any good, and that is a shame, but it was still a great time. The waitress wasn't very attentive and it did take a fair bit of time to get the dumplings. However, the selection is the widest I have ever seen and the dumplings were executed well. Great stuff, overall, would and will go back.<br/><br/>It was a bit too hot in there as well.
Takoyaki
Good food, HORRIBLE SERVICE!. Pros: Delicious juicy dumplings that are freshly made and tasty appetizers. Price is decent and reasonable. <br/><br/>Cons: Dirty, Smelly and Sticky place! Everytime I go to the one on lincoln, the service is horrible! For example, today I went there during lunch and the waitress is not friendly and doesn't smile even if we do. She has VERY long hair but she doesn't tie them up. Therefore, when she came to fill out water, her hair went in my friend's glass when she was leaning just a bit. Also, we were ready to order but she'd rather text on her phone, talk to the other waitress and tell her friend to get her an Ice capp from Tims than to take our order. <br/><br/>The worst part was that, on the menu, it says that the lunch special comes with a soup and a salad. However, they never intended to give them to us. After 20 minutes of waiting, we asked her when our salad and our soup will come. She looked at us like if we were demanding customers and told the kitchen to prepare the salad. After 10 minutes, the salad came but we asked where our soup was. She said it was coming right away a rude tone but immediatly asked the kitchen to prepare 3 soups because she never intended to give it to us. <br/><br/>Overall: I really like the dumplings from this restaurant but I would recommend people to go to the location in Chinatown which is much better and much cleaner instead of the one in lincoln.

Shrimp Leek Pork. All-day any-day hahaha
David Mason
Lots of veg options. Unlike many dumpling places which put pork in everything, Qing Hua has a number of good vegetarian options.
Dominic_cobb45
One time visit only. Stupefyingly tasty food; bizarre decor; hole-in-the-wall location; disinterested, asymmetric service; just a tick overpriced. And a crowd of happy regulars catching up over fragrant steaming basketloads of goodness, oblivious to the glaring flaws.<br/><br/>Montreal's restaurant scene, writ on a soup dumpling.
Sairona
I went with a group (~8 people) on a Friday night and had to wait a LONG time for our dumplings, but they were SOOO yummy!!
George
Tasty dumplings and usually consistent in value. Service could really be improved. Often enjoy buying the frozen dumplings to make at home.

Not the Best, i apologize for my comments. Guys...girls..it really breaks my heart to hear so many montrealers say that it s the best place for dumplings in montreal. i love dumplings and was greatly dissapointted when we spent 200$ there trying all the dumplings after reading the reviews. the best dumplings by far and wide is MAI XIANG YUAN on st laurent right across the street in front of them. try it, if more than 10 people go there who are loyal customers of qing hua and say that qing hua is still better. then i apologize greatly beccause my judgement is wrong. try the curry beef panfried only and porkémushroom dumplings steamed.

Delicious! The coleslaw i.... Delicious!<br/><br/>The coleslaw is amazing, lamb and coriander dumplings were phenomenal. Great value, you can tell there's a lot of love in the food they make.

Great dumplings! But warning: do not get the spicy tofu! 5.99 for a plate of cold uncooked tofu in the oil sauce that is literally on the table. To their credit, when I complained they didn't charge me. Maybe I'm unaware of this dish but I wouldn't recommend it!

What on earth is a Ravioli Chinois?. If you're a dumpling lover, or even if you've never tried dumplings (just think of them as miniature, asian-inspired hamburgers that don't fall apart as easily), you're going to love this place. They really only have one thing on their menu: dumplings. You get the option to choose between pork, beef, chick, or shrimp, with any number of vegetable options to going along with that. Regardless of what you order, you get a bamboo steamer served to you with approximately 15 dumplings steamed beautifully in front of you. Their meats are juicy, their dumpling wrap is delicate enough, but do be careful when you take a bite, as those juices may overflow (and may be piping hot upon arrival). I believe they have at least two locations, one in Chinatown on St Laurent (I think) and the other near Concordia University on Lincoln (I think).

Awsome dumpling restaurant. It was great... the place is small and not so fancy but the food is magic yes yes magic....a must go for asian food lovers....a good thing is that there is no soy sauce in every plate, so people who are allergic to soy can eat there

Waited 20-30 minutes, not offered a drink. I arrived with my boyfriend just after opening, along with two other tables. We weren't offered anything to drink - we had to flag the server down after 5-10 minutes and ask, and then the server brought everyone else water before us (even though we were the second of three tables to arrive). We also didn't receive any tea like one might get with Pho or Dim Sung - would that have been an extra charge? The server continued to serve the third arrivals before us, which was annoying because the wait for the food was very long - 20 to 30 minutes. The dumplings were quite nice but not worth the wait. Also, the menu said that dumplings come with miso soup and salad, but we didn't receive either.

So much hype??? Nice service. Would not go out of my way to return. Tried 3 different types of dumplings, nothing to write home about.

This restaurant is a really cool concept .. The food is good but there is not many sauce options. There's a spicy oil, vinegar and soya sauce. After eating around 5 dumplings it starts to be too rich and filling. The place is cute and the service is alright.

Slow but good. While I am no dumpling specialist, i do like them, and thought the ones at Qing Hua were of the very good variety. The wait to receive our order was almost excruciating especially for my boyfriend who was starving, but once they got to our table, the dumplings we're steaming hot and filled with delicious broth and fresh ingredients as promised. The dough on the thick side, but we finished 2 servings of 15 dumplings without any hesitations nonetheless. I haven't tried any chinese restaurants in china town that other reviewers claim have better dumplings, but if i were around the area of qing hua on another -40 winter night and didnt mind waiting 45 minutes to get my order, I would certainly go again.

I love dumplings and this place was a little disappointing. 45 min wait after ordering, 20 + table one waitress?, yes dirty looking, cash only? dumplings were very thick with little stuffing. and after a few minutes they started to get really dense. I've had much better in China town. i won't go back.

Nothing special about these dumplings at all. They weren't bad but not good enough for me to ever go back. I've tried frozen dumplings from the grocery store that tasted just as good.

Best dumplings I've had so far (never actually been to china) and the most fun I've had eating ever!

Best Dumplings in Montreal!. This is the best dumpling house in Montreal! One visit and you'll be an addict - and stuffed with dumplings! Yum!

Soooo good! Won ton soup was amazing, and dumplings were delicious too!

Been looking for these kinds of dumplings ever since I came back from HK.. Ottawa has nothing close to this, I would drive to MTL just to order these dumplings! Delicious!:)

Great dumplings!. Great dumplings. Each dumpling is made with a bit of seriously delicious (and HOT) broth inside. The beef and onion was my favorite. Down side: Sketchy and sporadic service. Eat here if you have extra time.

Lizzie Likes It!!!!. We are visiting from Wisconsin, USA and found Qing Hua Dumpling by chance. What a treat! The dumplings are so savory, and the little burst of broth is the hidden surprise in each one. Best of all, our 14-month daughter Lizzie adored the curry beef dumplings. The little darling ate 5 whole dumplings! Five! (...that's a lot for a small toddler.) We also feasted on lamb with dill, pork with onion, and pork with shrimp. We recommend all of them. (NOTE - a few other entries mention a long wait but we did not experience that at all. I suppose it depends on when you visit the restaurant. To the contrary, the staff were fast and very friendly. And, three cheers for dumplings made fresh for your order!)

Love it. Qing Hua has great dumplings and is fun to go to. I often get the pork and coriander dumplings, though recently I tried the curry ones and those were a treat too! This is a good place to go for a casual, filling, hearty meal.

Yummy but slow. Interesting experience, this was my first time trying dumplings. I got half steamed (leak and egg) and half fried (chicken curry). The latter was amazing, juicy burst of amazing flavor in your mouth with every bite. Difficult to eat without spraying/dripping everywhere. I would definitely try it once. But it was too much, after 8, I wanted no more. I really didn't enjoy my steamed leak dumplings. I should've tried a different flavor. The service was excrutiatingly slow.

Dumplings Heaven!. Overall this place is very good, good variety of dumplings and soups. The only downside is the wait for food is long so avoid going there if you are in a hurry.

Good food, terrible service. The waitress forgot my tea and soup, took forever to bring the food. Had to wait nearly 10 min to pay. Will not be going back.

Best dumpling in Montréal! A very good cheap place to try, they offer different kinds of dumplings (beef, pork, shrimps, lamb). Take a bag of 30 frozen dumplings to go when u'll leave, it's addictive and very useful at home!

Fun atmosphere for really cool juicy dumplings!

Go to MAI XIANG YUAN instead - cheaper and better. Ugh. Service was atrocious at the St-Laurent location. Resto was half full and it still took 2 HOURS to get 4 orders to the table. Dumplings are meh. I really don't care for the MSG/sodium-laden soup inside which is so messy. And I can't believe they charge $3-4 more per order than their closes competitor (below). <br/><br/>My go-to dumpling place is across the street at Mai Xiang Yuan, 1084 St-Laurent. Orders come out lightening fast (and yes each is made fresh to order) and at the same time (instead of one by one) so that you can enjoy a variety at the same time. An order that's $6.99 at MXY is $9.99 at Qing Hua?!?!<br/><br/>I've been to both Qing Hua's Lincoln location and now its St-Laurent location. I will never go back to either.

The soup in definitely junk food!the dumpling is made with pig skin.. I have a Chinese friend, before working there. He told me, the soup in the dumpling is made with pig skin and water. Sheep meat, chicken meat are also added this kind of thing. Then put a lot of MSG and sesame oil to cover the smell from pigskin. very interesting, but it is definitely junk food. If you do not eat pork, do not select the sheep meat and chicken meat, the soup is made by pigskin!!!

Best dumplings I've found so far. Lamb & Coriander. That's all I need to say really. Steamed of course. Only advice I'd give is to wait a minute or two after getting them so you don't burn yourself, the dumplings are filled with boiling hot liquid. It's a great cheap eats place and I've tried both locations.

The staff was rude. It was dirty and the dumplings were cold. I don't know what the hype is for.

Montreal Foodie
Qing Hua's Fall From Grace. This is no longer a place for foodies. As a former stark-raving fan of Qing Hua, the quality of their food has degraded to become pigsfeed. My most recent experiences have been horrible. They are obviously using different people in the kitchen.<br/><br/>The formerly thin translucent dumpling skin has been replaced by a thick pasta shell. The coleslaw salad which used to be a delicate heavenly mix of egg, shaved cabbage, and carrots, is now just "coleslaw". It's been like this for the last six to eight weeks.<br/><br/>I'd recommend all Qing Hua lovers to stay away. You will leave disappointed.

Good dumplings, bad everything. The place is dirty (floor, cash register, tables, waitress, fish tank). The dumpling is good but chinatown has a better dumpling place. They also ripped off the logo from a NY restaurant.
Matthew
What a great Chinese gem in the heart of Chinatown 2.O. The dumpling selection is varied and they are all tasty. They even split orders so you can get half of two types of dumplings. It does get busy at lumch but somehow they manage to get everything right. Its not a fancy place...but its a good place.
Dom Side
Eat too many everytime. My GF and I order 4 different kinds of steamed dumpling every time we go. The lamb-coriander, chicken-curry and pork-anis are to die for. It's almost as good as Din Tai Fung in HK and L.A. I can't say anything about the rest of the food, only had dumplings.
Souss
The dumplings are amazing, but the service is really bad and the restaurant is not so clean..
Sophie80
Max
All hand made, all delicious.. They literally serve only dumplings, but that's fine. The dumplings are exquisite.
