A hidden gem that is worth the search: Papa John's Bakery is nestled where one might never expect it. However, it is both a bakery and a wonderful breakfast/lunch restaurant that offers a unique experience. My first visit was an absolute delight. Both the buns we bought and the breakfast we ate were better than expected. We will visit again many more times. As the word gets out, this place will become a major go-to spot in Mississauga.

A homey boutique that I had initially perceived to be a new addition to Mississauga's not-so-diverse Chinese bakery scene was actually revealed to be well-acknowledged contender to Akko Cake House. Our childhood favourite in Erindale has served us well over the years, but the staffing switchover held some two or three years back yielded inconsistent portions and taste; we gradually reduced the frequency of our visits.

Upon conducting another Insta-search (mindless browsing of the social media platform has now officially become part of my stretching and face-mask-drying routine), I discovered Papa John's. Google Maps informed me that it was extremely close to Hurontario and Eglinton, so I set out one lazy Sunday morning in search of fresh coconut buns.

Great Family-Owned Business!. We had come here on a Saturday morning at around 10:30 am to grab something quick for breakfast. When we walked-in, we were pleasantly surprised to see that all of the food items were located in cases that were lined-up against the wall. I then understood that it was self-serve therefore, I grabbed a tray and a pair of tongs that were at the front door, then began searching the cases to find something suitable to eat.

There were quite a number of items to choose from, such as Hot Dog Buns, Coconut Buns, Pineapple Buns, BBQ Pork Buns, Curry Pork Buns, Egg Tarts, and various other buns, cookies, and bread products. It was quite difficult to choose a few items however, I settled on two BBQ Pork Buns, one Butter Twist, one Coconut Bun, one Egg Tart, and a small cup of Hong Kong Style Milk-Tea, which is something that they are known for. I noticed that the prices per item were quite cheap, with many of the buns costing only $0.80 or $0.90 a piece, definitely very reasonably priced!

Once I had placed all of my items on the tray, I went to the cash-register to pay. I noticed that there was a sign that said ‘Cash Only’ at the cash register. Luckily I had cash on me to pay for the items that I had on my tray. At the cash register, I was greeted by a kind younger woman, whom asked if these would be all of the items that I wanted for that time. I told her that I would also like a small cup of Hong Kong Style Milk-Tea, which was $1.80.

As my Hong Kong Style Milk-Tea was being prepared by one of the individuals at the front, the young woman rang up all of my items, which came out to only $5.80! I was pleasantly surprised at how cheap all of the items were, it was definitely a great start to the visit. Once my Hong Kong Style Milk-Tea was ready, the little girl that was helping the young woman behind the cash register told me that there was no sugar in the tea, and that the sugar packets were on the side-counter. I thought this was very cute as this bakery is family-owned, which makes it more enjoyable to see.

Once I had paid for my items, I sat down near the open area to the stove, which had a chef preparing more items to be placed in the outside containers. I decided to try the BBQ Pork Bun, which was absolutely delicious! It was well-made and fresh, with just the perfect amount of pork inside. Next, I tried the Coconut Bun, which was sweet (but not too sweet), and flavourful! This bakery is known for their Coconut Buns and Pineapple Buns therefore, I was glad that I had the chance to try one of their most well-known items. I also tried a bit of the Butter Twist which was doughy and fresh, not too sweet at all!

As I was eating the buns, I was also drinking the Hong Kong Style Milk-Tea, which was a delicious array of milk and tea, with a small hint of sweetness due to the sugar packets that I had added. I thought it was a delicious addition to the buns that I had ordered. I also enjoyed the atmosphere as there were about three small tables, with beautiful flowers surrounding them. There were also handwritten words and drawings on the chalkboards on the wall in both Chinese and English. I also noticed that the young woman behind the counter came out to clean the tables that were vacant, which was great to see.

Once I was finished, I went to the cash register to ask the young woman if I could have a bag to place the remaining items into. She handed me a bag nicely, and I placed the items inside. There were quite a few people at that point getting take-out and also dining-in. I then went to the garbage can to throw out the wrappers that I had used. There was no place to put my tray therefore, the young woman that was behind the cash register told me that I could hand my tray to her, which I thought was very kind of her.

She then said goodbye to me, and thanked me for coming. I thought she was quite pleasant to be around, creating a positive atmosphere in the bakery. All in all, I was impressed with the food, service, and atmosphere of this bakery. Although they only opened last week, they seemed to be more than ready to provide great service and food to their customers. One thing I would suggest is to add a piece of paper to each tray as the food items may touch the trays as they are being put on. I would highly-recommend this bakery for delicious Hong Kong based-goods!

Delicious pineapple cream cake! Beautiful presentation/decoration. Delicately sweet and very soft cake. Great price -- only $18. They very kindly accomodated my dietary requests (no gelatin, no alcohol). Would definitely order a cake again! 🍰

I usually come in the morning and get a freshly baked pineapple bun with a HK Milk Tea (with sugar). You can get these two items in a combo (Papa's Special) with a slice of butter in the bun. However you are paying an extra $1 for the butter, so I prefer to just get a regular Pineapple bun and a Larger milk instead. I've tried all their other buns as well, and all are delicious. Would recommend!

Local mom & pop Chinese Bakery. A humble spot with the BEST Hong Kong style milk tea in Mississauga. Tips: Ask for more milk in the milk tea - makes their strong tea extra smoooth! Order ahead via Snappy app. And get their EARLY because they sell out of buns fast.

Being in the area and can’t believe I never came across this till now. Went for breakfast before the stage 3 dine in. They provided some seats outside next to the restaurant. Tried their pineapple bun with butter set, comes with a hot drink, of course I chose hk style milk tea. And another set we ordered something different, mui choi pork sandwich, with a cold hk style milk tea. You got to pay more to “upgrade” the drink to cold drink. The pineapple bun was still warm which was amazing, and they are super generous with butter. Except a little down side to note is that their butter wasn’t too fresh I felt, it’s like when you have butter opened and exposed in the fridge for a period of time, that kind of taste. The mui choi pork was good too, but was kind of a bad idea to have it for breakfast, portion was big. Hk style milk tea both hot and cold were amazing! Give it a try if you haven’t! Worth trying, they have other bakery items like egg tart etc. They look quite good! Didn’t have a chance to try last time.

Kinda stumbled upon on this in a resident neighborhood on way home from getting car fixed. Bought a hot milk tea and selection of baked goods and tarts to try out. They had to be heated back up at home but man were they good. As someone from Hong Kong too they really nailed the flavors right, especially the pineapple bun with butter, it’s as good as I remember it as a kid. The feeling of a lot buttery coating your mouth might not be for everyone, but if you enjoy butter, this is very heavenly once heated up

Came here yesterday for the first time to try their Hong Kong style coffee. It was delicious, but we were mostly impressed with their buns. There is a reason why their buns are sold out on a daily basis. So delicious! We had the only bun that was left (coconut) and it was so good that we bought the rest of their inventory for the day. Will definitely be coming back and will try their Hong Kong milk tea that everyone is raving about.
