Review Udupi Madras Cafe - Mississauga

Excellent customer service and very clean restaurant. Extremely busy but very organized as we went on mother's day. Had a 20 minutes wait but was totally worth as we strolled to the nearby Kariya park. Food was very fresh and delicious. Definitely a go to place for good south Indian food.

This place is good if you want to taste South Indian cuisine. Gadbad ice cream is a must try, though not as good as the one we have in India but close enough. Overall good food and great ambiance.

Visited this place with family as it is near Kariya Park. This is very rare that I give such low rating but I must say that I was really disappointed with the food. If you don't like sambhar in a South Indian restaurants than it should be big alarm. The worst part is that there is waiting time and we need to wait for 45 mins to get the table and 30 mins to get the food. Not at all worth it. Here is my food list: Masala Dosa * Onion Masala Dosa * Paneer Spring Dosa * Kanchipuram Kara Dosa * Pav Baaji Dosa (Mumbai Style) * Channa Bhatura * Mini Pizza * Uthappam Rasam * There was not a single dish which I can give more than one star. Someone need to tell the chef that Onion Masala Dosa does not mean adding raw onion to Dosa. Kanchipuram Kara Dosa was their signature dosa ($12.45) but never had such bad food. Paneer Spring Dosa costed $15.45 so it is not worth at all. They have mentioned South Indian Thali in the menu but they did not offer it. The price is very expensive. Although Staff is good and was working hard.

It is one of my favorite places to have a South Indian meal. This time, I am giving 1 star because the restaurant owner couldn't hire more staff for the weekends given the fact that buffet is offered only during the weekends and the restaurant will be heavily crowded. We were told to wait for 10 minutes for our table, but we eventually ended up waiting for half an hour. There was no one to attend to the customers at the entrance. I ordered cold coffee with my meal, which was served without sugar, and on giving them the reivew about it, they just brought me packets of sugar to add in the coffee instead of getting me a fresh coffee. I love the food there, but going on a weekend to hear depressed music and drink coffee without sugar after waiting for 40-50 minutes is a disappointment. Please consider changing your playlist on the weekends, and the next time if your chef messes up the order, try getting a fresh order for the customer.

Went to this place after a very very long time. Firstly be prepared with your vaccination passport and ID. We ordered a thali which was amazing in taste and worth the price in every way. Then we ordered Chettinad dosa thinking it would be spicy but we were disappointed and thirdly was the tava masala dosa- the potato filling was not good at all but the dosa was nice and crunchy. Service was really slow.. ambiance was probably a 5/10. Cleanliness 6/10. price point of view was average

Heard a lot about this place and finally managed to dine in after 4 years of hearing about it. Can’t say I was disappointed with all the hype and wait. Food was good and the service was impeccable, attentive and helpful. Came all the way from downtown Toronto in a rental car to eat here. But was seconds go, maybe I won’t make that effort to come back. Don’t get me wrong, food was good, but there was nothing spectacular. A place for good authentic South Indian cuisine in Mississauga, close the Square One . Amply parking below the establishment. The breakfast brunch is a good deal for $13 but they close that by 11:30 latest. Sometimes by 11 am. Pongal wasn’t the best I’ve eaten, but the dosas were fantastic. Tomato chutney was excellent. Sambhar was pretty good too.

If you are near square one Mississauga, and wanted to have Dosa and some desert then this is your place. Good in your pocket too. Good variety of dosa. Quality is good to. I visited in Dec 21. Food , service is good. Only one thing I didn’t like is staff don’t have good communication between each other. Senior staff is not helping to junior staff ( newly hired). That part I don’t like.

I placed the order and when i got there after 30 minutes, it was not ready. Then i waited another 15 minutes for my order. As soon as i came home and i opened the Samosa chaat, it was not even half the container. Samosa chaat is way too expensive and paying $7.45 is not worth for the quantity. And when i called to complaint since i thought they might messed up the order, but the Manager was very unprofessional and said, it is the kitchen staff and they decide the quantity. Very disappointed.

This is a really nice place to gave Dosas. They have a wide variety of Dosas and all of them are delicious. So far we have tried the Spring Onion Dosa, Mysore Masala, Rava Masala, Kanchipuram Kara Dosa and Chettinadu, Gongura varieties.
The Gongura Dosa was a bit too sour but i have never had this variety before, so I guess this is Authentic.
The chutneys and Sambar that accompany the dosas are wonderful and resemble the taste back in India.
The servers are really polite and suggest the good stuff.
The Restaurant has only flaw wherein the Shared parking is a bit stuffy and smelly.
Overall the restaurant gives you wonderful treatment every time and serves you good and authentic food. Have been here multiple times and will continue to come back every time i crave for Dosa.
Would also love to try their other varieties next time.

Not sure why people queue up so much for this bad quality of food. People who have had good South Indian food will never enjoy this food. The medu vada were hard and didn't taste good. The coconut chutney was watery and flavorless. Because of the lack of good ventilation, our jackets ended up smelling chutney and sambar.. We will never go back nor reccomend it to a friend

Amazing place with full of South Indian vegetarian food. Ordered South-Indian thali that was amazing in taste. Then ordered Chilli Cheese Masala Dosa and Garlic Mysore Masala Dosa both were hot and amazing in taste. Service was quick and ambience was good. Overall an amazing experience.

Food 5/5
Staff 5/5
Ambience 5/5

We went to the place on Friday evening post office .

The staff is very humble .

They serve variety of stuff .

We ordered Mysore masala dosa , chole bhautra and chai .

The chai is another level , too good . Other dishes were also good ..

I think this place is must to give a try.
Thank you

One of the nice South Indian restaurant I have visited in GTA. I had chance to eat thali. It was awesome. Recommend their thali, vada somber, idli and dosa.

If you miss India and Mumbai street food then this is the place to visit! Right from the wadas to the bhajiyas and dosas and the chutneys and even the pav bhaji, the food here is closest to Mumbai food than any other restaurant I tried in Toronto/GTA. They have a vast menu with other south Indian food as well. It is reasonably priced and the servers are very polite. Must visit!

Great place for South Indian food in GTA! Though I live in downtown Toronto, I visit this place at least once a month when I miss India. The food is amazing and totally worth the travel.

Went here for a few occasions. Once to order a la Carte and another for their buffet. Both times were good tasting food.
Buffet food runs out quickly, and the staff try very hard to replenish the items, so it’s not bad if you have little patience to wait.
Quality of the food is good and not too oily. Worth a recommendation if you like authentic. South Indian food. My favs were bissebhala bhaat and their dosas.

Great place for South Indian food, when they are open, that is! Convenient location with free parking is a big plus. Food is delicious and authentic. Their South Indian thali is very good. Ambience is decent, service is good too. Servers don't smile, usually grumpy but the food makes up for this minus. Idlis, dosas are good too. Recommend this restaurant.

Nice place to have south Indian food in mississauga. Ordered a Thali, masala dosa, idlli and filter coffee. All tasted very good and authentic. A must visit place.

AWESOME PLACE WITH AWESOME FOOD BUT... it is almost always crowded. On a busy day you might have to wait to be seated. But again its busy because its famous and its famous for its delicious mouthwatering food and huge varieties of dosa. The food is worth that wait.
You can also call in and reserve a table but DON'T RELY ON RESERVATIONS. (Both times I reserved the table they apologized and said it has been given to people who were waiting there, even though i was there on time) but that doesn't qualify for taking out a star from the rating. Because delicious food is worth the wait. The place is not that big.
Also try the very innovative 'gadbad' dessert. Why is it called gadbad you will know once you try it.
PLEASE CHECK TIMINGS BEFORE YOU GO HERE. And avoid going at the edge of closing time. You might have to return back empty stomach. Give roughly about 10-15 mins to be seated.
DO NOT PAY FOR PARKING UNDERGROUND. Its free for restaurant visitors provided you register your plate number at front desk.

Happy Eating. Thanks.

The place is ok ok and food as well. The staff is helpful but the service is slow. Since I am more of a non-veg fan I found place to be ok since the place is pure veg. Staff was courteous. No bad feelings but will give a pass for next time.

I had the worst experience at this restaurant. The customer service was absolutely terrible. My family was served 1.5 hours after we ordered, and people that came after me had already been served and left the restaurant. I went to go check up on my order multiple times and no one seemed to care. At one point I was told that I had brought to many people to the restaurant and should bring less people, and that was the reason other people served before. Keep in mind that there were only 5 of us...and that should not affect the priority in being served. The waitresses were so neglectful and ridiculous and did not check up on our table once. This restaurant needs better staff and needs to learn the meaning of customer service. I was very disappointed to say the least.

Loved the freshness and authenticity. Also the ambience has got an amazing Indian feel to it. Taste wise its awesome. And parking is convenient. We ordered roast ghee masala dosas and tasted great. The service was prompt and we left the place very happy. Will be back for more and soon.

Worst service ever, Rude staff.
I stay very near to resturant, i called them to make a order for pick up, they hung up rudely by saying that they dnt take order on phone , only through uber is possible, and hung the phone down, no courtsey to talk to customers.
Then i went personally to order and pick up and asked at cashier and this time they said yes i would have ordered on phone and then come later to pick up.
I gave order for two items and they said it will take 20 mins , i waited for 30 mins and went again to reconfirm about order status and they said 10 minutes more and finally i got my order after exact one hour. And when i reach home and start eating my food after so much waiting then i come to know that food is made with excess salt that my 25$ are just wasted.
The staff is unprofessional and rude and do not show any courtsey and they would behave as if they are doing a favour on us.
No manager on duty and everyone is busy around with the confined space seating. Sorry Udipi resturant , you just lost a frequent customer, and i know as your staff member are so uncourteous that you would hardly care for this review. I am going to make sure that i mark my review on other websites like trip advisor etc so that other customers are aware of my worst experience ever at a renowned resturant.
AJ
Serving stale masala in dosa and not even apologizing for the mistake and on top of that charged for it. It was my regular place but now they lost the customer for good. Never going again at this place.

The breakfast buffet is a bit disappointing. Just the very common stuff. Do not be taken in by the name.
There are no traditional delicacies like Pongal etc.
And for the normal menus, again nothing special. The sambar and chutneys are below par. If you had real udupi food, then avoid this place.
They should name it as Punjabi cafe instead Madras cafe:-)

Poor service 4 adults finished their meals then they brought 1 plate of chana bhatura ordered 30 mins back for kids tried paneer dosa it was horrible only the chat is alright their quality of food has gone down drastically

This was my fourth visit today and I was expecting a different buffet, I guess that wasn't the case. They have the same buffet every weekend. No doubt they have a good variety.

The buffet consisted of Rasam, Sambar, Medu Vada, Idli, Chutneys, Channa, Veg Curries, Masala for the Dosa, Puri, Dosa, Kheer.

The good thing about this place is that you get the taste of home cooked dosa. I am giving this place 3.0 for their dosa. Other food items were "okay" I was expecting a lot more.

To end my buffet I thought of ordering Tea, but it was a total disappointment. I was too strong, I could hardly taste the milk in it. wouldn't recommend trying the tea.

Food : 4.0
Decor : 2.0
Service : 3.5

I would come back to this place only for the buffet.

This is probably my third visit and all of them have been before these apps came along. Secondly on the New Years Day at 11:30ish the group of us consisting of 27 of us including kids landed on this restaurant to have our brunch buffet. It became crowded after we started and people at UMC had set up and open a section for the additional crowd.

Tons of choice for the all vegetarian South Indian cuisine buffet. Idlis, Medu Wadas, Dosas, Goli Bhajias (fritters), Upma, Pongal, Sheeera, Curd Rice, Sambhar, Rasam, Bisi Bele Bhath.... so much and more.

Most of the dishes I tasted were done well. The dosas Crispy, the pooris freshly fried, the rices dishes well seasoned, the sambhar little thin for my taste, the rasam tangy and spicy at the same time. The channa Masala was a surprise-unlike the Punjabi version this tasted great with different spices and a good one not to miss.

Idlis you should miss. Were too grainy and not soft. The coffee as well which is a marquee for any South Indian restaurant was a 0.5/5 stars.

Would come back for sure if buffets were my thing.

If you are hungry, do not enter this restaurant! Recently I went with my family to dine. Our orders were taken in 10 min and the server left. We waited for 30 min and no food arrived. We called the server and complained about the delay. He forgot about our order. No apology from him or from the management. We left that place hungry after waited for 40 min. Terrible experience. I will not recommend to my friends or relatives.

Great food. Authentic taste. Good selection as well. Service wasn't bad. I would recommend the chat papri though. The menu vada is the awesome.

Whenever we have visitors from US and India we mostly end up in their weekend Buffet. A must try wide spread only South Indian veggie Buffet in GTA. It is Centrally located , free underground covered parking, handicap access "
Very fresh, high quality and I truly feel honest food on the table.
Staff never rush you even though they are busy and very fast service.

I love their South Indian thali where they have Chaat items and Chole Batura. They are centrally and very convienatly located near Square one and downtown mississauga. One can enjoy the most Romantic view from their restaurant ( twin towers / Murlin Monroe towers ) from the Patio.
At the end I enjoy their Gad bad ice cream where my friend always sip their Madras coffee until last drop.
Some times we try their signature dosa like paav bhaji dosa , Munchurian Madurai , Paneer spring , chilli garlic masala , special onion rawa masala and cheese garlic dosa new live their coconut and tomato chutnies.

Loved the experience. This place is a hidden gem and far superior to other better known / more expensive joints for dosa and South Indian food. Great service and food options. The starter platter with assorted snacks was a treat as were the dosas. Will keep coming back.

Worst restaurant service in my life.. Beware of the person named "Joe" working there. Extremely unfriendly :( If I would be able to give negative rating, I wish.

Really good brunch buffet. We were visiting from calgary and loved the food. Really happy to see goli bajji in the menu. Reminded us of restaurants back home. Service was great. They came in with hot idlis, puris and dosas to our table.

My favourite place to have Udupi food in all its glory. Situated very strategically close to the Square one mall. Very cleanly maintained. Dosas here are very delectable as is the medu vadas - reminds me of my hometown Udupi. Another must have thing is the famous Gadbad Ice-cream, you just can't miss it.

As the name suggests itself, it's a pure south Indian restaurant. Reasonable price and quality of food, only Indian restaurant nearby Novotel Mississauga..

Excellent food and service. Udupi has improved to a Gr8 extent and their sambar is to die for, and the rasam too.
Their dosa choices are very good and I am a fan of rava dosa which is the best over here.
Keep up the consistency guys and doing a Gr8 job.

Great place for authentic south Indian food. We have been going to this place for many years now . They have great variety of Dosas, idli vadas . We always have filter coffee in the end.
Don't forget to try their weekend buffet. thats great too .

Great dosa, good variety. I chose the paneer potato dosa, no oil, crispy. Very very good. It doesn't come with as many "dipping sauces" compared to guru lukshmi but I don't think that's a problem. I was very happy with the quality of the dosa, and the line up is much shorter than guru lukshmi. Great little place, will definitely visit again. Service is just ok but they get the job done.

Idli Baath, Puri Bhaji and Thali are recommended. Food is great, service is OK. Would definitely go back.

Tasty Good Food. We had the mixed appetizer platter which consisted of a few fried appetizers. These were fried to perfection which is very rarely seen in restaurants of this sort. The Dosa's were tasty and also cooked properly and full of flavour. Overall we had a delicious lunch and will return.

The restaurant was clean and pleasant. The Service was friendly and attentive in filling the water glasses.
