Review Astoria Shish Kebob House Dundas Ltd - Mississauga

Absolutely wise choice for Greek dishes, fancy and huge space, quick service & friendly staff. I went there for a dinner with my partner, despite being less than an hour from closure they seated us. The space is bright and lovely, and the lamb was delicious. I would highly recommend this for someone looking for an very affordable dinner

Truly fantastic and authentic Greek food. Service was quick and friendly. I forgot how cool the decor is in this restaurant. It was also fresh and cool with the hot weather inside. You have to have the saginaki. It's an experience here and a must try if you love cheese. The chicken and lamb souvlaki plates are very generous with both potatoes and rice and the meat. Great experience and will be going back again.

The portion size was quite large, which was nice. The chicken and beef were served on top of a bed of rice (basmati I believe). The rice was perfect, well-separated and light, and it did not overpower the other elements of the dish. Our server was quite nice. She brought us water in a timely manner. Our meals came out in a reasonable amount of time. Overall, she was quick, efficient and friendly.

Epic meal! I was so glad to stumble upon this beautiful restaurant. The food was great, atmosphere and service were impeccable. Highly recommend. Can't wait to go back! P. S. The baklava was amazing and huge!
Willy
Great atmosphere decent price for the portion you get, however service is very slow and rude. I would say its more with the individual server as i was noticing other servers. Food wise the salmon and the chicken was way too dry but the lamb was great. We were recommended to this restaurant and would still recommend to others however will not be our top choice compared to lots other Greek Restaurant we went to.

Amazing venue - the decor has you feeling like you’ve been transported into a friendly greek home. We ordered 2 dips, and 2 souvlaki plates. The plates came but our waitress had forgotten about the dips. We patiently waited and when she checked in and realized, she apologized and got our dip right away. She later went as far as offering baklava on the house and especially after hearing it was my birthday. We also asked for a phone charger and another staff member was able to help us out. Overall really solid. Huge portions .. I would personally go for the chicken souvlaki over the pork next time , just because the cuts were too thick and too fatty for my preference.

Ordered the lamb chops with potatoes and vegetables, everything was delicious and the Taziki sauce was to kill for. The waiter helping us was welcoming and very friendly!

Great food, portions are really good! Staff is super friendly and the Saganaki is must have appetizer.

First timer, went there to lunch on Wednesday. The ambiance and décor is nice, very unique. I found the menu a little over priced considering the portion size offered. Staff is nice. Service is great.I had the Grilled Salmon with rice and potatoes. The plate lacked presentation. The Potatoes were the best Greek I've ever had, the Salmon could use more flavour and I found it a little over cooked. All in all, I was left a little underwhelmed. I would go again and give the restaurant another shot in the future.

When it comes to appetizers this place is probably not the best Greek place to go to. I find the calamari rubbery, The Greek fries are absolutely horrible (with tomato sauce?!), and their Pita bread for the Greek bruschetta is not very good....<br/><br/>HOWEVER... this place knows souvlaki and they know it well. Aside from Square Boys on Danforth and their chicken souvlaki, this place makes what very well could be the best souvlaki in Toronto. Pieces are juicy, big, tender and spiced perfectly. Tzataiki sauce here is whipped and perfect. I’m a a big fan of the meat at this place.

The service & food were excellent. We sent back a flat beer with no pushback from the waiter. They were OK with us bringing in a birthday cake. The service was brisk and attentive. good spot for a celebration.

Great place. Have been twice.<br/><br/>Ordered: Chicken Souvlaki with Shrimp Dinner and LG Beef Dinner. Comes with your choice of 2 sides and a Greek salad. <br/><br/>Food: Beef was cooked as I asked (medium rare) it's tender and soft, well seasoned. Chicken is moist on the inside, crisped on the outside. Potatoes taste fresh and not soggy, nice and soft. Rice is well seasoned. Overall, it's not heavily salty, which I absolutely hate when my souvlaki is too salty. Their feta is nice and creamy, melts in your mouth a bit. Shrimp were small, but they're battered in a crispy batter and deep fried (part of the dinner specials).<br/><br/>Portions: they give large portions of the potatoes and rice. The LG beef was enough to fill my medium sized stomach and share a couple of pieces with the BF. <br/><br/>Environment: family atmosphere, has a fireplace, very old school Greek themed place.<br/><br/>Service: feels very family oriented, servers were nice on both occasions, speedy to take our orders. The staff there seem to really care about the restaurant.<br/><br/>

Visited Astoria last night with my husband. Was disappointed with the most tasteless souvlaki I've tried. We ordered pork souvlaki and lamb chops. Both were bland and flavourless. On top of that pork was dry and burnt. Greek salad had one lonely olive in it. Not worth your time and money. Jimmy the Greek is seriously better. Will not return for sure. The only pleasant moment was our server Peter, who was great and attentive.

Every time I go to Astoria, I leave satisfied... And full. The portions are really big and the prices are good. I don't think I have left without taking some food home. They have the best shish kebob of any Greek place I have ever been. I have tried almost everything on the menu and every time it is amazing. They also have the best tzatziki sauce Ever! You can eat it by the spoonful.

"Greek Valentine's Dinner". My husband and I had a very good dinner in Astoria in Mississauga! . No reservation done but the Manager accommodate us at once. I'm proud with Greek People, Opa! We will be your regular customers.

Great experience, great food, thank you Andy!!!. My first time here. Just finished eating my walk-in take out order. I had a feeling it was going to be good, just by how I was treated upon entering the place. I placed my order with Andy ( I think he was the manager). The guy was born for this business. Cheerful, courteous, even as busy as they were. Class act!!! Open kitchen, so You can see the Chefs making the food rite before you. Well organized and in sync. Got home and food was very moist. Told Andy I would be back upon leaving. I would highly recommend this place for eating in or take-out (pick-up). Great job!!! I hope all the staff reads this.<br/>See you soon,<br/>James MacLean

Terrible Service. Went on my lunch break and waited 15mins for waitress to take our drink and food order, and 45 mins after that we still did not have any food. Had to request it to-go from another waiter because our waitress did not come back once.

Great service/Great Decor - Okay food for the price. I went here on the recommendation of a Greek friend, on a Wednesday night. The service is excellent. We had a very nice waiter who was highly attentive to our needs. He built a good rapport with us and was pleasurable throughout. The decor of the restaurant is very nice. There is a traditional theme with background music at a good volume, with dim lighting and enough space between tables to not hear others conversations.<br/><br/>We ordered the fried calamari to start - although the plate came extremely quickly (less than 4 minutes), It was not all that great. for 12.95$ you would expect more of a higher quality product and presentation. The Calamari was just slightly under cooked, and fried in extremely hot oil which burnt the batter. It was closer to a fast food calamari plate, not restaurant quality.<br/><br/>For the entree I ordered the lamb chops. I had requested the Lamb chops to be medium rare, however they came to me at almost well done. The menu said they were new zealand spring lambs, but judging from the (stronger, closer to mutton) taste I could tell the lamb was definitely much older than 6 months. Lacked some seasoning as well, some rosemary would have been nice. The Fries and the Potatoes were excellent. It also came with a Greek salad which was great. Fresh crispy greens, with onions and the right amount of dressing. The best thing on the plate, was the Tzatiki . It was very light, nicely whipped and had a great taste. A+ Tzaziki sauce.<br/><br/>I think there are much better Greek restaurants within this price range. Although it was a nice experience, I would not go back, only to continue to explore other places.<br/><br/>Overall grades:<br/><br/>Decor: 8/10<br/>Service 10/10<br/>Food Taste/Quality: 5.5/10<br/>Food Presentation: 5/10<br/>Price: 6/10<br/><br/>Overall : 6.9/10

Greek Food. We eat here 4 times a year and get take out once a month or sometimes on the spur of the moment. Entertaining at home we pick up skewers of meat with the potatoes and salad with dressing on the side. Greek fare in Toronto has not changed much if at all. This place is fast, fair prices and a nice easy family atmosphere when we treat friends. Twice I have asked for the table next to the fire while reserving ahead and they did it. Real family types working hard to serve us.

Very Disappointing!!!!. This has always been my favourite restaurant for years now, we would treat ourselves once a month and this was my first choice. We moved away so we don't get here as often anymore but things have certainly changed over the years. My family went there on a Sunday night for dinner and it was a little busy but no more than usual, we ordered our usual chicken souvlaki dinner. First off the coke was flat, my son ordered OJ which was warm- he would not drink it! The food was excellent as always except I had to ask for dressing for my salad because it had none on it. The service was horrible, waiter never came around to ask how things were, took forever to get the bill, very disappointed. I used to love coming here but now I think I will try another Greek restaurant that actually pays attention to their customers, sometimes growing bigger isn't always better!!!

Top 3 restaurants in west end. The tzatziki is fantastic! Lots of garlic LOVE IT! The food is fantastic, the service impeccable, and the place is always busy... hmm I wonder why? One of my favorite restaurants in the west end. To be honest, I didn't want to write this review because if you are reading this you will probably want to go there, and I hate waiting ...but they deserve the amazing recognition that they are clearly receiving. Keep it going and we will keep coming!

Best souvlaki on Danforth. Great food but parking is difficult fri/sat .. watch out for the parking Nazis very abundant and quick to tag....nice place love it top 10 restaurant for me. souvlaki mmmmm!

Tzatziki Sauce Way Too Strong. I do not like their tzatziki sauce at all it's VERY extremely garlicky with a pasty texture... A little too potent for my liking. Not fond of the flavor and it leaves a strong aftertaste (imo). I remember going for a work party and I did enjoy the potatoes, salad and rice. Never been a fan of chicken souvlaki so my opinion might be biased, but I find the pieces to be a little too large for me... I prefer small pieces on a skewer, and I wasn't a fan. Good service.

Went on a whim. My bf and I were in the neighbourhood tonight (a Tuesday) and decided to just go in and check it out. Boy were we glad we did! The food was really good, the service was good and the atmosphere was lovely. We each had leftovers too, the portions are very generous. We were also surprised at how busy it was for a weeknight but we can certainly understand why!<br/><br/>I had the chicken souvlaki dinner and he had the pork.

So Tasty & Perfectly Seasoned food !. Where do I start ? My husband & I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki dinner & the Lamb Souvlaki. Both were seasoned to perfection. The food literally melted in our mouths. This location has tastier food than the Danforth one. I usually can't even finish my Lamb dinner but I did today! The service is excellent ! Our food arrived pretty fast and our server was so nice! We will definitley be returning to this location!

Mediocre food. The "award-winning" pork souvlaki was overdone to the point that it had a crust. The Greek salad was a massive pile of lettuce with one olive and two pieces of tomato. The atmosphere was decent. The place was packed ... Maybe we just got unlucky.

GREAT FOOD. I have never been to a Greek Restaurant before or had Greek food. I honestly loved the food. My boyfriend ordered a Chicken Soulvaki and I ordered a Beef Soulvaki and both of our dishes tasted so good. The portions were huge! Great service too! Definitely recommend others to come here!

The BEST!. One of my favourite restaurants ever. I LOVE the greek food here! It's always my favourite place to go for chicken souvlaki. They also have by far the best tzatziki sauce!!! Yes, it's strong and thickly whipped (how it's supposed to be) not runny like some other greek places. It will leave your breathe smelling like garlic for awhile but it's worth it every time. Everything is always fresh and delicious! Whenever I go to a restaurant and I'm disappointed I just make sure to come here next time to make up for it. I've been coming here for years now and never ever get tired of it. Greek fries are also a must!
Shelham
They wanted a $300 deposit to book a lunch reservation!!!! The manager Ronnie didn't even car to let go a group of 25 when we said we are going elsewhere. We are taking our business to a restaurant that is more accommodating and considerate!

Fabulous Meal. Took my family there for a birthday dinner and it was the best food we have had in a Greek restaurant in 10 years....great service and good value for the money...will be going often.

We went to dinner at Astoria on a Friday night and the place was packed. The hostess told us it would be a 30-40 minute wait for a table and we decided to wait anyways. They had a little candy bowl at the front table which we helped ourselves to which made the wait a little easier. The wait turned out to be shorter than expected, and we were seated within 20 minutes. We ordered the Saganaka for an appetizer and the chicken kebob dinner which was shared between 2 people. It was by the far the best chicken kebob we've ever had. The portions were very generous. Despite the fact that the place was packed, the service was prompt and atmosphere was clean & friendly. We''ll definitely eat here again!

Decent Greek Food. I was craving for Greek food, so my friend and I decided to check this place out. The restaurant is dark with booth seating against the wall. The waiter came and took our order, but it took awhile to arrive. The portions were large but nothing to write home about.<br/><br/><br/>-----03 Nov, 2012-----<br/><br/>Great Greek Lunch. Took my staff to this restaurant for lunch. The food was tasty and service was great. They never rushed us and reasonably priced.

Great place for Greek food!

Decent meal - great service! The vegetarian platters are the best. The lamb souvlaki was richer than I've had before - makes great leftovers for the next day.

Amazing Restaurant!. This restaurant is beyond amazing! The food is spectacular! Everything about it is perfect; it's taste, it's price, and it's presentation. We decided to visit Astoria after reading rave reviews about it on here, we were glad we visited! The decor of the restaurant is really nice, very authentic with a great colour scheme. The restaurant is huge, with a big patio as well. We were able to sit wherever we wanted, so we chose a cozy booth. The server came very quickly with our menus. I have to admit, the server we had wasn't really the greatest, she wasn't very pleasant and seemed somewhat annoyed. We ordered our appetizers and waited patiently for them. They came out quickly, within about 7 minutes. The hummus dip is probably the best I have ever tasted, the pita chips that came with it were so crunchy, taste GREAT! The fried calamari was also amazing, it came with some sort of white cream sauce, whatever it was, it tasted WONDERFUL! We each decided to order the small platter of the main shish kebob meals. After our appetizers, we were brought the salads which accompanied our kebob meals. The salad was HUGE! It covered a huge plate, and it was filled with feta cheese, tomatoes, and onions. We couldn't even finish our salads because they were so big. About 10 minutes after receiving our salads, we received our kebob meals. I can't believe this was a small meal. It had about 7 huge pieces of meat, three large potatoes, and a good helping of rice. By the end of our meal, everyone was beyond stuffed we couldn't take another bite. And could you believe the kebob meals were only $15 each?! Talk about a bargain! For four of us, the tab came out to $96, not too shabby considering we ate like royalty! I highly recommend this place! The service isn't too good, but the food is definitely worth it! Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

2 Thumbs up!. Pros: Food is fresh and tasty. Service is good.<br/><br/>Cons: Can be busy sometimes with big noisy groups.

Great Customer Service!. Back in the Summer, I purchased 2 WebPiggy vouchers for 1lb tzatziki for $5. I had to be wise of when to use them 'cause we have a small household. Decided to print them out for Christmas so that I can bring them to some gatherings. <br/><br/>Then I noticed that the vouchers had expired at the end of November...just a month ago. :( <br/><br/>I contacted WebPiggy who suggested that I contact Astoria. (Btw, not super helpful, WP!) Astoria completely accommodated me without any problem and they were friendly to boot!<br/><br/>I have been here a few times, and this act of customer service just makes me want to return - without any hesitation! Besides, their food is AWESOME too, so that doesn't hurt.<br/><br/>Thank you, Astoria!

I went here with 3 of my friends today, decided to have the small lab entree dinner, idk why I did, I don't even like lamb, but it was not bad. <br/><br/>My other friends got the pork entree, chicken and beef. They were all good, except the beef, she asked for medium rare and it came out blue. Seems like 90% of restaurants can't get medium rare right! <br/><br/>Overall, it was not bad and if I'm in the area and dying for greek, I won't mind coming again.

I went with some friends and really enjoyed the chicken souvlaki. My friends enjoyed the pork souvlaki. The atmoshere is great for group dinners.

Loved it. The atmosphere was homey, the service pleasant and the food satiating. I got flaming cheese and a lamb chop dish to share. Quite yum!

BEST SOUVLAKI IN THE CITY. The portions of all the menu items will leave you taking some home with you. All the items are great. I especially love the souvlaki. I highly recommend this place.
Rusnlvr
Great Place and Food. I have visited Astorias on the Danforth numerous times but most recently I decided to check out the one in Mississauga. There was five of us in the party. We each ordered a souvlaki dinner with me being the only one picking pork. The food was quite tasty and plentyfull. Two of the people in my party took home doggy bags cause they just could not finish their meals. The only criticism that I have is that the bread given to us at the beginning did not taste very fresh but otherwise we enjoyed the meal immensely and will be coming back in the future.
Baxterfield
Beautiful restaurant inside - a great Mediterranean feel. I have always enjoyed the chicken souvlaki but have found its quality inconsistent lately. Their tzazki is quite good but VERY heavy on the garlic so be ready to pop lots of mints after the meal and the next day as well!!!
AvidTravellerDub
Awesome Food. We had the grilled calamari dinner and the chicken greek salad. Both were cooked to perfection and tasted really fresh. The chicken was juicy and grilled to my liking and the grilled calamari was one of the best I have had. The rice was tasty, however undercooked, but I still loved the grill.
FoodyMommy
Had dinner there today. I had the grilled calamari dinner and hubby had the souvlaki dinner. The food is good, tender and juicy. BUT the waitress who was serving us was not good tho or maybe she is just tired. I asked for a water but it didn't come instead the bill was handed to me. So hubby have to ask for a second time. Am I coming back here.. I don't know maybe try Danforth location next time.
Brian Kim
Okay atmosphere, okay food... I have been to this place 3 times in 2 years. I always take my son here and the service was quite good and the food was also good compare to the others. It's in a not so popular plaza so there's always plenty of parking spot available. However they should work on their pork dishes as they were bit hard for my son to chew on.
KDM
Consistent and superb. I've dined at this location more times than I can count and every time I eat here I am never disappointed. The greek salad is tremendous as it is lightly dressed. The mains--in particular the lamb souvlaki--is absolutely fantastic. The meat is perfectly seasoned and grilled to perfection--I don't recommend ordering this item to be cooked beyond medium-rare as it would take away from the delicate texture of the item. On another note, the service is quite consistent and the servers are generally friendly and accommodating to guests. At any rate, I highly recommend to anyone who is in the mood for great souvlaki to try this spot.
David Law
Just as good as the Danforth restaurant but without the parking hassles. Friendly staff, food is very good.

Well-Executed Standards. After months of gushing about it, my friend finally took me to Astoria for some very good Greek food. The mixed grill platter I had showcased the kitchen's skill with the grill, including chicken souvlaki, lamb chops and quail. The quail in particular was flavourful and juicy, but I wouldn't kick the others off the plate, either. The real star, however, was the fresh and light taziki, easily the best I've had.
JeffG
Very disappointed.... I hadn't been thrilled by this place before, but they do serve quail which my wife likes so we went back. Her dinner was fine, but my (award winning!) pork souvlaki was hard, like it had been left over from the lunch service and microwaved up. I don't like their flavouring for the potato and souvlaki, but that's probably personal preference. However, when I told them it was the worst souvlaki I had ever attempted to eat they didn't bat an eye, no pride in their product at all. I should have refused to pay for that entree but I just wanted to get away and never darken their doorway again.<br/><br/>Save your money, go on over to Just Greek at the Royal York subway. Much better food in my opinion and way better service and respect for their customers.
Spartiatis
Awesome. Among the best greek restaraunts in the GTA. Good portions, very good quality food. The soulvaki is amazing pork, chicken, lamb and beef... its probably the only greek restaraunt which has a Beef souvlaki on the menu, AAA tenderloin.<br/><br/>The calamari is fantastic.<br/>I would definetly go again.
Duckdown
One of my favorites. I love this place.. Best chicken souvlaki I've had in probably the entire GTA. Huge chunks of charcoal grilled chicken, decent rice and potatoes. I absolutely hate their salad though. White heinz vinegar and cheap olive oil, blech. And no cucumbers.. weak.<br/><br/>Other worthwhile things include their pork souvlaki and calimari (grilled or fried). And of course their house tzatziki sauce which is mega-garlicky.. Highly reccomended for the chicken souvlaki dinner, it's pretty much what I get every time
Jantan
Food is always consistent and service is good.
Jeff McKinnon
Decent Greek food in an area bereft of other options. Friendly family-style service. Fresh unlimited pita is nice too.
BiteMe
Seems like my go-to place in Mississauga for Greek food is Astoria Shish Kebob House. Consistently good food is probably the best reason for this.<br/><br/>The meal starts with a Greek salad. I don't know why, but when other restaurants try to do a Greek salad, it doesn't turn out as good as this one. What is the difference? I suspect it is the copious amount of great tasting fresh cheese that makes all the difference.<br/>This is the pork souvlaki (Asoria's award winner) (small portion is $16.49) described as tender pork marinated with their secret blend of spices. It may not look like much, but it is absolutely delicious. I think the difference is that fatty pork is used that lends more flavour than usual. I also like how they give a lot of tzatziki sauce.<br/>This is the chicken souvlaki on a pita ($10.49) served with french fries. Although it feels more like a lunch item, it still fills you up.<br/><br/>Good consistent quality food makes for a successful restaurant with regular patrons. I think they

Astoria restaurants have the best spice rub on their Slovaki meat. Their calamari and saganaki are great appetizers. The one downfall is their greek salad, it is tasteless and nothing to talk about. Overall, Astoria is totally worth it if you are a Greek food junkie!!
