Review Wonton Hut - Markham

COLD NOODLES. Amazing for the hot day. Highly recommend for that alone. Note: they DO have beer. Service is amazing. Food was amazing. Smaller menu for right now so we tried everything. Brisket was pull apart. Crispy wontons tasted like nostalgia. If you're in the area check it out. I really hope we get even more Markham plaza spots downtown now.

2022 April 4★ Your here because your hungry for some traditional HK style Wontons and dumplings and lucky you, you've found the place! This place has a lot of celebrities who stop by and for some pretty good reason. Their Wontons and shrimp dumplings are amazing. So far, probably one of the best out there. Don't take my own advice, look at others. The cuttle fish ball is also great. Bouncy/chewy texture with pieces of cuttlefish and good flavors. The noodles where cooked perfectly and the soup base was very good. At about $10 a bowl with 4 pieces of Wontons and noodles, it's well priced. This small hut has about 7 tables currently and well spaced out. They currently also sell fried fish skin chips and their homemade hot sauce. Parking plenty within the plaza, but being next to a few restaurant's you might need to park a few steps further.

I ordered the wonton soup noodle with brisket and my mom ordered the wonton soup noodle. SOUP *** i tried my mom's wonton soup as mine had the brisket sauce mixed it, and though it was tasty, it was really salty. the brisket sauce is also very salty. this soup was so salty it took away from the experience. tasting the soup, you taste salt before any other flavours from the broth. i was left thirsty for hours, and i had to drink about a liter of water to quench my thirst. in my opinion, Jim Chai Kee (richmond hill) has a much better soup. it's seasoned correctly so that one can taste the nuanced flavour of the wonton soup first, and the salt is there to enhance that. NOODLES *** noodles were perfectly cooked. they were super chewy, and held up to the soup during the course of the meal. WONTONS *** about 3 whole shrimps (30/34 size). ok springiness and texture. flavour was great. wrapper was ok. noteworthy is that wonton soup noodles come with 4 wontons. i ordered wonton soup noodle + brisket, and i only got 3. BRISKET *** stewed really well. very, very soft- it was fork tender. the meat was also trimmed so that my portion of beef had no elastin at all. there were thin layers of fat and gelatin left on that really enhanced the flavour. sadly, it was really salty.

A classic institution in markham and excited to finally try it. The wontons were actually huge and an actual two biter! The noodles were your classic noodles for the wonton noodle soup and nice and tasty! Really nice chew to it all. Loved the fact that it wasn’t too salty either. The flavour all came from the wontons and proteins! Service was good! Didn’t rush me even though I already knew what I wanted and still wanted to see if I was going to add more. Great job overall! Stars of the show here are the noodles and the wontons. The noodles are springy and taste really flavourful, while the wontons are fresh, plump and juicy. The sauce for the noodle, however can be improved especially for the oyster sauce which is on the salty side. I also enjoy the braised brisket which is tender and packed with umami. Prepare to wait 15-30 minutes during lunch hours as indoor seating is limited during Covid.

EDIT: Recently came back for take out and I'm happy to say the quality has stayed consistent and delicious. The soup comes in a separate container and the noodle container is the bowl shaped ones so you can pour and eat directly from it. Service is always friendly. They're open for dine in now, Vax record checked before seating. Fried fish skin is a new addition to the menu. ***** Got the dumpling and hot and sour pork lo mein. Wonton Hut has been more or less consistent with their wontons but I find that their soup used to have better depth of flavour. It could just be the sourcing of quality ingredients is more difficult these days but I find that the shrimp wontons don't have as much of a fragrant shrimp flavour as before. Prices have steadily gone up over the years as well. Their hot & sour pork isn't traditional with more ketchup flavours but it's still pretty good. I prefer the dumplings here. There's a nice mix of textures from the shrimp, pork and crunchy wood ear mushrooms.

Tasty dumplings - the wontons are better than dumplings. Broth is flavourful. The amount of hot oil given is a little sad...literally like 2drops of hot oil🙄

Deeply flavourful broth in the Traditional Wonton Soup with Noodles. Seafood based broth is not what I am used to (I am used to Chicken broth) but the flavour is so full that I liked it a lot. It would be great to have a chicken broth option too. I can't wait for the new store to open around the corner from where I live on Queen St W. In downtown Toronto.
