Review Congee Queen - Markham

I Eat Tomatoes
Very delicious Chinese cuisine, the duck was delicious and the Congee definitely healed the soul. Food service was also really fast. although we were right next to the door so the food got cold very quickly which ruined the experience a little. Would definitely love to come back and try other dishes!

They have a afternoon tea special between 3-5pm which was great, especially for people who eat lunch really late like myself or people or eat dinner early enough to enjoy the special. The portions are surprisingly big based on their price. The bitter melon rib with rice cost around 12, the beef noodle cost 10 and the congee was only 8.50. The flavours were decent, a bit lacking for me personally but still tastes good. While the beef was really tender, the bitter melon was a bit undercooked and too crunchy for me. The food is also served with a drink each and they offer drinks such as bubble tea and red bean ice cream without an extra cost. That is amazing since most restaurant would charge an extra fee for these types of drinks.

Dined here recently for the first time. I’ve wanted to try this place for years! It was Father’s Day so it was super busy but we didn’t want too long for a table. Some servers were a little rude and our order took over 40 mins to get to our table, but again it’s understandable as it was a busy day. We ordered the Hong Kong lobster, lo mein, turnip, friend rice. To be completely honest the food wasn’t that great and was lacking a lot of flavour. My expectations were too high. I wouldn’t come back on my own, or maybe I’ll try another location.

Been to this location many times. It is always busy, and the BBQ meat selections sell out early in the evening...so get there early. Typical Congee Queen food quality...you won't be disappointed. Restaurant closes at 10 pm now post-covid.

This location is preferred over the Richmond Hill branch. Their food seems more fresh. Service is average. Waiting area is more spacious and has lots of chairs to cater people waiting for a table.

At first I was a bit skeptical of the outside and the name as I was craving dimsum and not congee, however, this place completely surprised me! My friend was craving deep fried squid tentacles and I've had quite a few I'm my life, but these were the best I've ever had. Chow mein was crispy, salty and spicy squid was delicious, and I loved the shrimp wontons. Definitely making this a regular!

Not as good as the other locations. The staff are rude and inattentive. Took forever to order and just as long for the food to come. Even getting a glass of water was a hassle. Cantonese chow mein lacked flavour. The Hong Kong lobster was the star of the show, I wish it was a bigger serving. The fried turnips surprisingly was one of my favourite dishes.

Stopped by for a late night snack, hit the spot right on, with the hot Wonton noodle soup, deep fried chicken wings and fresh Chinese greens. The food quality was consistent with all the other Congee Queen locations, nice big modern venue, efficient & fast service.

My family’s been going to the Congee Queen (near the Shops At Don Mills) for >10 years. It’s our go-to place for tasty, moderately-priced entres. When one chooses to sit down, it’s an excellent (if sometimes cramped) experience… dishes like the spicy turnip patty are crunchy and spicy on the outside & fine textured on the inside. The location’s light-wood paneling reminds me of som Richmond (B.C.) eateries. Congee Queen also does take-out. They’re wise about how it’s packaged - the wontons are kept separated from the broth. The chow meins have their crispy noodles separated from the saucy coating. For prompt pick up, call ahead and place your order.

We ordered the Pork Hock Lo Mein and also the Garoupa with Bitter Melon Rice from their lunch combo. I liked that their lunch combo included a soup and a small plate of steamed vegetables too (also a spring roll). The size of garoupa fish fillets was substantial and very tasty.

I love congee queen! If you want good Asian food then this is the place to be!!!! My favorite are the chilli turnip patties. They are soooo good plus all the other stuff in the menu.

As far as Chinese casual restaurant chains go, I like Congee Queen much more than the other Congee chains. Huge selection, dishes are hit or miss. It's going to be filled with sodium and MSG, like any Chinese diner/restaurant of this type. This location used to be my favourite Congee Queen location, but it has really gone down hill the last two times I went. In fact, the last time I went, I received very strange service. I asked for vinegar and pepper, and they served it to me in tea cups. I also found a plastic piece in my food. I don't plan on returning to this location. I'll stick to the North York location.

I find Congee Queen to be consistently good across the GTA and this Markham location is no exception. This is a popular spot, particularly amongst Hong Kong folks, to grab some Cantonese comfort food.

Service was incredibly fast, even with a full restaurant. After ordering, our food started coming out in less than 10 minutes. Staff were super accommodating. We got switched to a booth on request despite their dinner rush. I'm not sure how good the service is if you are a non-Chinese party though.

Like most Cantonese restaurants, the atmosphere was lively and chattery. However, it's not difficult at all to have a decent conversation using a fairly normal decibel level. Overall, this is a great place to get your congee (and other Cantonese food) fix.

Tip: you can always request for reduced salt and/or oil in most dishes when you order if you'd prefer (like me).

I went to congee queen for the first time last night. It was also my first time trying congee. We ordered the shrimp and scallops congee and ginger beef lo mein. The congee was a large portion and more that enough for sharing. There weren't many scallops in it. I enjoyed the congee once I added some chilli to it as i find its a bit bland. Its definately a healthy option. They have a large menu with many congee options at good prices. The lo mein was a bit disappointing for me. I did not like the beef and it was once again a bit bland. I ended up using chilli oil to add flavour to all of the dishes. Service was slow but ever friendly staff. I would return to try something else on their menu.

We pulled over here because of the branding the signage we saw from the road. Being a resident in the area I have no shortage of Asian and Chinese food places to go for dinner and I've reviewed quite a few of them here on zomato. Yet it's worth mentioning that this place has a nicer atmosphere and is more upscale Vs the "greasy spoon" setting a lot of the other restaurants feel like. It's not fine dining but it does lend itself well to a weekend dinner or dinner with family.

Nice size restaurant and typically full of people to give it a nice atmosphere.

Very expansive menu that is moderately priced. It's not the cheapest of the cheap, but there is still good value. Expect to pay between $10-$15 per main course dish on average with the bigger or finer dishes costing you more.

Good selection of all Staples dishes and a good chefs recommendation menu that has it all in a very hearty portion. Fried turnips are always a great starter along with any of the salads. I always tend to get a meat and veggies dish but I've tried 6 different ones and all good. Lots of noodle selection and of course congee, the soup it was named after.

I'd go here if I was shopping across the street at markville mall and wanted a place to dine at.

My parents are a huge fan of thos place. I will always take them there on my days off and I've come to also realize that they have pretty good food. Their portion is quite large, perfect to share with family and friends. Value is definitely there and they are clean, fast, and delicious. I'm personally quite sick of Chinese food but it still doesn't change the fact that their food is good.

Doesn't live up to its hype. I know a lot of people that go to this place but I don't understand why. The service is mediocre and the food isn't all that great either. The prices are a little higher than most restaurants in the area, the wait is usually a bit longer but I find the food bland and super oily. Don't think I'd be back unless no other restaurant is open on the area.

Consistency. This is a great place to go to for some Chinese food for a decent price. They are always consistent and things will never go wrong.
Honest Opinion
Service and Cleaniless has gone to the ditch. We use to frequent congee queen quite often however there has been a few disappointing occasions and finally we've decided its best not to go there again.

Residues (food from previous patron) were found on table and chair/booth, this is right after they quickly wipe the table with a wet cloth and yes, they wipe the chair using that same wet cloth and expect you to sit on it.

Zero service. You will never see a smiley face on any of their staff.

We got short changed once by $20.00 and asked them to look into it. Took them 15 minutes to figure it out and return the $20.00 with no apology or whatsoever.

To sum it all up, we have never left this restaurant in a good mood.

I love the food even though the food comes out slowly and the tables are very small if you're going more than 8

Bbq duck - missing pieces???. Take out a whole BBQ duck and it fits loosely in the 2 containers. It looks look half the meaty breast is missing and it is still lying on the chopping board. It could be for the next customer who wants bbq duck rice. Do not appreciate their cheating. will not go back again for take out bbq again. They ask you to sit down while they are cutting and it is a trick so you don't see they are leaving good parts for their next customer.

Best to ask them to not add msg to the dishes, then you can avoid a msg attack. Place is always packed on weekends, so go early or expect to wait.

Return visit. Place has recently expanded in size but the place still holds its quality. Ordered shredded pork and preserved egg congee, deep fried lobster/crab claw and chicken stirred lettuce wraps. It's a simple meal done right. Price is a little higher than most, service could be better but IMHO it's still worth going. 80%

Not the greatest. Very poor service and the food was bland. The place didn't look very good in my opinion, and the food took a very long time to get cooked and served. Expected more, not worth coming back here.

Great food very consistant, service has improved but they need to make it bigger it always packed there! XD

A great place with amazing food. The prices are good but the servive could be better, however the congee more than makes up for any flaws. Love it, would definately recommend.

Shhh...it's the BEST. There is nothing better than Congee Queen out there. We book our milestone dinners there (because we are cheap and we love yummy modern menu non-round eye Chinese Food).

Favourites:
deep fried shrimp wonton
beef with rice noodle in X.O. sauce
spicy turnip (bundles of joy I say!)
spicy salty deep fried squid (everyone loves these!)
anything in their menu with a main picture is AWESOME

They do pan asian really well. I was surprised at how yummy their green curry chicken was.

Favourite Drinks:
mango slushy

It's always busy. Try to go between busy hours.
The staff is GREAT!

Good food. We went for takeout yesterday and got the bbq pork, chicken with rice noodle, beef and broccoli and szechuan tiger shrimp.
BBQ pork was great. The noodle dish was good but could have used more veg to colour it up. I liked the hint of ginger in the beef and broc. Nice and subtle. The shrimp dish though wasn't great. The shrimp were tasty and well cooked but it was in a sickly red sauce with big chunks of onion and peppers. After picking out the shrimp, we left the rest. I would definitely get takeout again but maybe try some different dishes.
While we waited, we were glad we weren't eating in. A beautiful modern decor but something about the lighting is strange. The lighting and mirrors gave my daughter and I headaches!

I love their Japanese-Chinese fusion fried rice with toning (roe) and eel. Their milk pudding is also a dessert to look forward to. Their afternoon deals are great! Most combos include a cold drink (milk bubble tea with tapioca, red bean slush with ice cream, etc.)

Now with 6 locations, Congee Queen has quickly established themselves as a go-to Chinese restaurant for weekend brunch, large family dinners or quick meals with an extensive menu and tasty food. The Fiance’s sister was in town recently and we stopped by Congee Queen’s Markham location for lunch on a Thursday.

This is my favourite go-to congee place in Markham because their congee is good and so is their noodles and rice. AND they have the best Singaporean Fried Radish Cake. It's crispy on the outside, but soft in the inside, and just the right amount of spiciness

The Leslie FInch plaza has many wonderful places to eat and Congee Queen 皇后名粥 is an established cornerstone of that plaza. With a great range of dishes, come here for the congee that comes in all kinds seafood, plain, pork, and beef. The roast pork here is crispy and moist and always a guilty pleasure to have. After dinner, I would always recommend ordering mango pudding as dessert.
