Review Kimchi House - London

May
Food was really good and I like how it’s a family that is running the restaurant. Makes it even more authentic and friendly. They were open on Christmas too so that was super good. Service is quite fast as well. Highly recommend!

This restaurant gives very good service, and its wide range of dishes will definitely help them know more about Korean food and food culture. However, parking could be quite difficult when visiting at a wrong time.

Even better than kastu restaurants! I mean this place is improving itself, it used to be a normal place for me. But now, maybe the best korean restaurant in London!

Not to be mistaken for the restaurant of a similar name found in Toronto, Kimchi House is an unassuming Korean restaurant found in an inconspicuous plaza in midtown London. Inside are tables reminiscent of fast food chains. But the food is far from being a quick meal. Hearty and delicious Korean cuisine awaits. The Gamjatang (Pork Bone Soup) is delectable. If you are tackling it solo, no need to get the larger size ($16.99). The regular size ($12.99) is more than enough. The Bibimbap is also quite filling ($10.99). Get that in the stone pot for an extra dollar for the crispy rice. Be sure to add extra gochujang sauce to spice things up! Attentive and quick service (our server was a whirlwind dashing back and forth between the kitchen and floor constantly!), as well as the yummy food, makes this hole-in-a-wall restaurant a great dine-in for anyone!

Good portion of food. Service was really great. Had to come back for one more time before heading back to Toronto. Thanks to the young guy server who was really attentive and courteous! He has shown an excellent customer service like above and beyond! Hope the owner gives recognition to this hardworking lad! Thank you and until we visit London! 💯❤️

I ordered Dolsot Bibimbap and Miso Soup which was great. Quantity was good with perfect authentic taste. There was a side of Banchan which was lovely to go with the bibimbap. There was no rush during lunch time. Overall a good experience.

Soup flavour was weak, not sure if it is supposed to be like that but it tasted like hot water. Side dishes aren't that great either. Place seems authentic though and the prices are reasonable

The food is undeniably delicious, and the family-operated atmosphere adds an extra layer of authenticity and warmth. I highly recommend this restaurant and will be definitely visiting again.

There's some great food at Kimchi House! I got a small Tteokbokee with cheese and noodles and it was delicious! It was spicy but manageable for me, but it might be more on the spicier side for others. Also got the seafood pancake and one piece is pretty big. The server was super polite and nice :) I'm not sure if it's due to COVID-19, but you get a discount if you were to pay with cash.

Kimchi House is a tiny Korean family restaurant. The food was good, service was alright. I liked the Korean pancakes. Worth a visit if you happens to be in London, Ontario.

I used to go to this restaurant because it's food is OK and it's close to home. After my friends warned me about this restaurant for overcharging on it's bills i started to pay extra attention. To my surprise she actually calculated the tip into the bill as service charge, when i asked she insisted that there's no tip i need to leave extra. I left another 15 percent and never went back. Liar ruins everything.

I ordered my favourite bibimbap here and must say that it was the best bibimbap I've had in Canada thus far. Firstly, I'm a kicker for raw eggs in bibimbap, so that may have biased me in its favour. Moreover, the rice crisps left at the bottom of the sizzling stone bowl were irresistible and perfectly fine... there was so much and it was delectable!
My mom ordered her favourite kamjatang, while my sister got the jjangmyun. She found it pretty decent, and was satisfied, though interested by the various meat and veggie fillings in the black bean sauce. My cousin got the mandu soup and my dad, the kimchi soup (both not pictured).

I didn't actually have a problem with the service here. Yes the servers sometimes mostly speak Korean but it is a Korean restaurant. The food is a little too salty, oddly enough. It just doesn't taste as good as other Korean restaurants I've tried. This is especially true for their spicy rice cakes and gamjatang. The bibimbap is good though! I still prefer Soo Dam to this place but it's a decent replacement if you'd rather not mission out.

Our favourite Korean restaurant in Toronto. Especially their appetizers and pork-bone soup. Their seafood pancake is also delicious. Busy but always can find a seat.
Fine Diner
This is a place that draws Koreans so I figure it has some standing in the community. The food was authentic and hot with many unique items. Service is a bit slow if you aren't Korean as our server spent more time with her group and little time checking out needs. Despite the negative here it is worth the visit as meals were unique and reasonable

An Amazing Experience!. Kimchi House is one of the very few places in London that serves authentic Korean food. I had their kimchi jjigae, and it was honestly the best I've ever had in London, and in comparison to the restaurants I've been to in Toronto. The employees here are very friendly, and the service was incredible. However, if you are unfamiliar with East Asian dining customs, be aware that you may need to hail your server if you need something, rather than expecting them to come to you every 5 minutes. I would recommend this place to anyone in a heart beat, and will be going there a LOT more in the fututre!!

Authentic Korean food, good service, decent side dishes! Very rare for a place in London. They even have cold buck wheat noodles and very quality at that! Never had better in Toronto=) very satisfied and will come again.

Beware the tip. We used to go to this restaurant because truth be told, we thought the food good. Unfortunately, the proprietor (a Korean woman) NEVER remembered us so whenever we received our bill, she took pains to remind us that the tip wasn't included in the price. We are, by the way, generous tippers. We prefer to leave the tip on the table and I think this woman was used to people leaving tips with their interact or credit cards....so, I believe she didn't 'see' the tip and thought it necessary to remind us. I started to resent being told to tip. The last time we were there, I'd had enough. When my husband went up to pay, he was again reminded. I went to the cash register and told her that we frequented her restaurant quite often and that we always tipped. I added that in Canada, we NEVER ask for tips...that it is very rude to do so. I must say, I wasn't at all polite about it and the other clients heard my comments....this I regret. I then took the tip I was going to leave, went back to our table and 'slammed' it down on the tabletop...not my best moment. But, in my defense, I was tired of this woman's rude behaviour. To that end, we will not frequent Kimchi House anymore preferring the decent food and kind service at Manna Grill. I hope that my actions resulted in others being able to 'dine' without being told to tip.

Great experience. We went here for a late lunch. Food was great, service even better and they "gave" us corn to make corn tea at home.

Terrible Service,. The food was bad, Service was just terrible. Just terrible I would never go back to that place again.
Nicole
Terrible!. I ordered the Shrimp Bento Box...The rice tastes like paper paste, the shrimp is tiny and tasteless they just dump it in sauce and the soup is more bland than usual. I did not even make a dent in my meal. By far the worst Japanese food i have ever encountered.

Ups and Downs. Nice Restaurant, has its pros and cons obviously like all the others.

Pros: Food is delicious, decently priced, side dishes are amazing, and the restaurant itself has a cozy feeling.

Cons: Not the greatest parking space, small, the student waiters and waitresses need more training because they struggle with orders during the busy dinner hours, the cook often mixes the pork and other meats with tofu and vegtables on the same pan and pot, also make sure to double check your receipts the cashier usually overcharges on my end.

Other then that its good food with a dash of cons. Hope you all enjoy.

Decent foods, convenient for residents live at proud foot and wonderland area. long wait for food however and extremely bad service to some asian people.

Mixed Feelings. Yes, mixed feelings about this place. Food is usually good. Service is usually horrid.

^Standard for a lot of Asian restaurants, especially Korean.

But I am definitely a returning customer.

Korean it is. First impressions. Busy with clientele of Korean descent. I usually see that as a good sign.

Service: Promptly seated, one waitress, overworked. There was a man helping out, don't know his exact role.

Menu: Standard. We had diner for 3, it was $10 more than for 2. The portions of mandoo and shrimp did not increase with the number of guests. I hate that, however, they are not the only Korean restaurant to do that.

Food: Salad and dressing, good. Miso soup, ok. Mandoo, worst I've had. Shrimp were over cooked. Pork, yummy. Beef yummy.

Why I won't be going back: the unknown man helping out was serving our food with open cuts on his hands, not fresh blood, but unsightly. Secondly I found the place to be very dirty. The wood trays that hold the main dishes were very dirty and obviously don't get washed between tables. The chairs were greasy, I didn't want to touch anything. Oddly enough, they passed a "health" inspection only 5 days prior to my visit. When walking back to our car, the kitchen door was open with a view in. That put the final nail in the coffin for me.

This is a small restaurant in a tight location right beside soprano's pizza. It is not fancy, or pampered for expensive tastes.

The food is so good (see my uploaded pictures) and the waitress is very nice. Kimchi House is very obviously family-run and I respect what they do there.

Whoever says the atmosphere here is poor clearly does not and will never understand the concept of this kind of restaurant. It's a small hole in the wall but was very enjoyable to my boyfriend and I! If you are not a restaurant snob (stick to franchises otherwise), definitely give this place a look! You won't be disappointed!

It's a definite date spot for visits by me in the future.

I actually didn't really enjoy this restaurant. The wait was very long, the waitress was giving us extra stuff we didn't order but got charged for, and the food there isn't even THAT great.

Came here based on my Korean friends review. It was much much much better than my previous experiences with other Korean places. It's so authentic! Everything was tasty even the gyoza which imo

Great experience!. This was the first time that my sister and I went to a Korean restaurant, as we are from a small town.

The food was delicious. I had kimchi fried rice, and my sister had bibimbap. Both orders were huge! We couldn't finish it all (which was awesome). Our meal also came with five side dishes (bean sprouts, fish cakes, kimchi, sweet pickles and pickled radish, and radish kimchi.. this is what we assumed) and a small bowl of soup for each of us.

The server was extremely friendly, and was considerate of the fact that we clearly didn't know what we were doing, being first timers and all. She was very wonderful and patient with us.

For all this food, it came to about $20. Definitely worth every penny! I plan on bringing my entire family to this place at one point!

In the pictures that I attached, we had already been eating the main dishes for a while.

Definitely worth checking out. For me, very unique tastes like nothing I've had before. One server tending to entire restaurant and was excellent. For under $30 it will feed two with more food than you could eat.

Really good!!. We went to London for the day and decided to get some Korean food (I've had a kimchi craving for months~). We were impressed with the food. We had kimchi pancakes, kimchi rice, kimchi stew... It came with lots of tasty side dishes and tea. Ended up being $30. They also had a bowl of gum at the cash register, which I thought was cute (usually places have hard candies). The waitress seemed a little timid, but she did her job well!

Authentic Korean. At last, an authentic, reasonably-priced Korean restaurant in London. Rather small and hidden, but lots of variety in Korean dishes and rather reasonable in price. Will be back for more.

Tasty authentic Korean cuisine. This restaurant has become one of our favourites.

The dining room could use some renovations to improve the atmosphere however the friendly staff make up for lack of decor. This appears to be a family run establishment. You will be pleasantly surprised if you are looking for authentic Korean food at reasonable prices.

We usually order the bibimbap, bugogi and spicy tofu seafood soup. The quality is consistently good!
Meagan
Very authentic. And very good value for the cost. The popular Spicy Pork stir fry is amazing! We were very satisfied.

Fantastic Food. Great food and the attitude of service, although the waitress/family member of the owner doesn't speak English very well.
The price is reasonable, compared to other Korean restaurants in town.
Highly recommend for the Beef Teriyaki Bento (Dinner), labelled K1 in the menu. Tasty and I will try this with other meat for sure!
