Review Mexicactus Bar And Grill - London

Chris Lukings
This is a small family run establishment. You don't go here for the location, it's kind of industrial. You don't go for a high end atmosphere. You go her to support a great small business with the best Mexican food I've had in London. Diner is basic but the food is great! Give it a try you won't be disappointed

Went to this great Mexican place around the corner on Trafalgar St with a group of three people. I ordered crispy fish tacos, enchiladas and quesadillas which was so good. Everything was so flavourful and the portion was good too. We also ordered Mexican soda drink Jarritos in lime and pineapple flavour that was served in their original glass bottles. Overall a good experience with authentic Mexican flavours.

So great. First time there. It was warm! Server Nicole was great. Helped us navigate the menu and offered suggestions. Margaritas were yummy, could have done with a bit more booze. All in all I’d go back. I would mention , and I find I usually do have to, that I don’t want my mains till my apps have been off the table for a few minutes and I want it hot. ……,,,,Loved it here! 👍

Went to Mexicactus for dinner with a group of 3. Ordered the chicken quesadilla a la grande. Decent portion size, lots of flavour but missing some heat. It would be nice to have some hot sauce on the table but probably not there because of covid. The waitress let us know to ask next time we go. The chips and salsa they give you to share with the table are excellent. My dinner mates ordered the burrito and tacos and enjoyed both meals. The service was excellent. I would recommend and will return.

Went in for a work event, tables were all ready set up and server prepared and ready, excellent choice for meals and our tables each had a wide variety with zero complaints, in fact there were numerous compliments on the spinach dip, fish tacos and of course I had the steak and it was made perfectly. The drinks kept coming which is also a bonus. Place was clean and friendly and would definitely recommend.

Yummy enchilada! Didn't care for the appetizers that we had which were the coconut shrimp and stuffed jalapenos. The shrimp were ok but they were served with tartar sauce and that was a weird sauce for the shrimp. The jalpenos were mushie. The main dishes we had were excellent. Overall a solid 4 stars.

A shout out to Mexicactus. Been quite a while since we’ve been. Came for a late lunch/early supper as it is quieter. Excellent food. My honey had the steak fajitas and I had the Mexican beef enchiladas. Both were great! Mine could have been a bit warmer but the flavour was fantastic. #supportlocal!

I had a chicken burrito and it was ok, the margarita on the rocks tasted weak but was good. The atmosphere is nice. I would go back because the service was excellent and the food is good, I just want to try something different.

Chicken Chimi, deep fried ice cream and a Mexican burger for a change. We have went here several times and have really enjoyed it. This time chimi had barely any sauce, tiny bit of sour cream dropped ontop (I had smeared it before the pic), very little rice or beans. I was so surprised!! Tasted great as usual but skimpy serving this time. Burger was good but will stick to authentic menu in the future. Ice cream was fantastic 😋 I could see going there, just for that.

It was random stop for me however I really love South American food, this place didn’t disappoint, the moment you enter it has the Mexican cantina vibe i where I was greeted by a very pleasant host and sever. It’s nice place grab a cold on hot day they have a patio, and very cute bar and seating. I highly recommend this cute restaurant I ordered a chimichanga and my friend ordered sizzler fajita platter we both loved our food.

Top Notch 😋 Enjoyed every bite❤

If you blink as you drive down Trafalgar, you might miss this restuarant. It's very small and cozy, but the food is excellent. Probably the best option for authentic Mexican food in London. The fajitas especially are really well done. I ordered take out, but would consider eating in next time.

We went out for date night, this was our first time visit. Friday night, no lineup, decorations were nice Mexican theme inside and out. The service is slow to greet guests and slow to bring drinks and follow up after food delivery. The menu is full of choices but a little hard to read because of letter font style and size combined with poor lighting. I tried the paella, my partner tried enchiladas. Both had good presentation but size of meal should be larger. The salad comes with the enchiladas but isn't very impressive. I found the price a little high for portions. Dinner for 2 was almost 100 with one dessert that was over priced again. 15 dollars for a single simple deep fried ice-cream. On a final note I believe it is owned and operated front and back end by East Indians. I tried speaking Spanish and the server knows none. Lol. The clientele is almost entirely white couples ages 30-50. I don't think you will see any Latinos dining here if that tells a story of its own. The table hot sauce tastes like hot vinegar. . They need more hot sauce options. With all said. I would recommend it, I will try anything once. I don't think you will love it or hate it

I love this place and we took friends who also loved it. Food is great, inexpensive compared to many other places and service is friendly. They also sell their own sauces which are delicious. It does look questionable on the outside but the inside is good. Don’t just drive by, go in.

Came here at Cinco De Mayo thinking the food will be good. But I'm here waiting for an hour with no clue of when the good is coming and the staff isn't actually helpful. When asked there wasn't an explanation and just a rude reply.

I'm not even interested if the food is even good.

Excellent. First time, and we drive by all the time. Always wanted to stop, finally did. Glad. Service was great, and flavours were authentic. Portions perfectly sized. Thanks

The food and service was A+. Homemade salad dressing and salsa was fantastic and the lady who service was cheerful and efficient. Will definitely recommend to friends

Great flavours. I always enjoy eating here. It's nothing fancy but seems authentic. It's like a little gem hidden beside a garage. I love the refried beans.
Rachel
I've had the vegetarian burrito and quesadilla and the flavours were awesome. I would definitely recommend this place, don't be discouraged by the location, the food is authentic. I've gone with a meat eater friend and he also said the food was delicious. It's a bit expensive but the portions are large and food is very tasty.
Excellent! Love the food and friendly staff! The food is consistently great, fresh, and tasty. Highly recommend anything on the menu! Great tequila selection!

Awesome spot to eat. Prices, food and service are all spot on. A bit of a hike from old south, but worth the travel.

Last time: coronas and fish tacos

Horrible. Besides being in a sketchy area and driving by and saying id never eat there. Ended up going for a birthday. It was just all around bad. You walk in and there is two entrances doesnt tell you which to go into and no one around to tell you where to go. We waited 2hrs for food. The waitress came one time to get us drinks then never came back. 1.5hr of waiting and complaining she says foods on its way, the 15mins later says its being plated then 10mins later we get salsa. Then finally our food. In that whole time never apologized for the wait, never came to give us more drinks as we waited. Then had the nerve to be a b**** when we complained about it and actually was mad at us for not tipping. Then asked was the service that bad. Are you kidding me. Worse service ever. In a decent resturant when your waited they are nice and keep coming by and if it takes 2hr for food and you complain you tend not to have tonpay for something. But then again in a decent resturant they never make you wait that long for food. I would never go there again nor would i recommened it to anyone. The food wasnt to die for either. I didnt eat the meat cause i didnt trust the resturant well enough.

We used to love it. Considered it out special place, a little spot few heard of with excellent food and great people. Well it still has very nice people working there, but the quality, quantity of the food has really taken a dive. And with that the prices seem to have gone up. It's too bad, we want our Mexi Cactus back;(
Matt
We liked it.Good food, quick and good service. Definitely go back to try something else from the menu

Hidden Gem. Don't judge a book by its cover, this place makes a truly delicious meal. It has become a favourite of mine, great service, great food and ambiance at a good price. If you have room for desert the deep fried ice cream is a must.
Doubcee
Thumbs Up. Loved it. Cheap and delicious. Great Service.

It's not terrible , but it definatly could be a whole lot better

Great Food! Kosher Service!. Okay so besides limited parking..you might want to consider yourself V.I.P when you get a good parking spot. But then again all good things are worth parking around the corner.

The Food was amazing and if you have an inclination as to what real mexican food is you know this is 90% on the way to having the French Cuisine Service with the Fiery Spice of Mexican tacos. I Ordered the Make it yourself taco and was completely thrilled that they had the selection of both flat bread taco and hard shell taco...and the fillings were worth several 2nd and 3rd's.
Finally I finished my meal off with there deep fried ice cream with a waffle shell amazing and I will be making a trip back to Mexicactus for another V.I.P serviced style meal again.

BORING. Friday night 8 Nov 13, lots of cars in the parking lot, but sllllooooowwww service, didn't bring right salad, tiny bowl of cold chips and bland salsa, mediocre food, certainly not worth the drive across the city to experience this.
Disappointed
Way Dissapointed. I have lived in the area all my life, and discovered this quaint little place and have been visiting regularly for quite some time now(years), food has always been good and the prices were great for the meals you got. The waitresses are either efficient or not it's a toss up. Most recently went for dinner with family there was six of us and the main reason we went was because of the food and the prices, when we arrived I was shocked to see a price increase not because of a small price increase but everything is $3-$4 more expensive which adds up, there was no difference in decor or plate size just the price increase, it cost us close to $200 and the waitress forgot to give my husband change back for a $20 there was no arguement about it but luckily we remembered or it would have cost us $220 and all six of us had to share one small basket of complimentary nacho chips, you'd think for a large party they could spring for 2 baskets. Wasn't really impressed! My husband, a friend and I returned for drinks and an appetizers recently we paid for the munchie platter which is now $19 and was disappointed in the lack of items on the plate for $19, the waitress forgot to bring us our other appetizer and when she did it wasn't what we had ordered, we spent $100 and left feeling hungry? My husband and I could have gone to the keg for the same price. I have been to this restaurant enough to come to recognize the owner and every time we go he seems to be there at first I thought well that's great, but then more and more I noticed every time we went he was there drinking. I am starting to wonder if the price increases has to do with the owner's bar tab? Just stating my opinion. In all the years we have been going to this place(at least once a month) the owner has never recognized us as return customers, not really great business practice! My husband and I regularly support our local small businesses as we feel strongly about putting back into the community, but in this case I may have to think long and hard about how I am going to spend my next $100 for dinner.

Weak. Overpriced and under valued. I left hungry after eating very mediocre food and tiny portions (especially the side dishes). I won't return. How do you leave a Mexican restaurant hungry? Marginally better than Taco Bell but smaller portions and more money. I have no idea where to get decent Mexican in this city.
Amanda
Love the Food. This restaurant has great portions of the main meal and smaller portions of the sides that come with it which is perfect. AMAZING food. The taco salad is the best I've ever had... had sauteed veggies on the top which was a nice touch.
Pickleandbutters
Went there tonight. The food was awesome. I ha dthe steak tacos and shared both the apple chimi and deep fried ice cream dessert. The ice cream was to die for!
Spooky
Love. Been to Mexicactus lots of times and its a favourite place of mine to eat. Ive tried alot of the food and am never disapointed. The portions are huge, the service is amazing and so is the tequilla. Ive always gone on low days so havn't seen it busy. It is a sktechy part of town and not much parking but it is well worth it..I always get the deep fried ice cream for dessert and its the best i've ever had!

We went for dinner last night w a party of 5. All of us left happy and stuffed! The waitress was very nice and knowledgable. I had the tacos, margarita and shared the deep fried ice cream. All of it amazing and for an low a price. New favourite place!

Worst restaurant ever. My friend and I tried this restuarant based on rave reviews from all her family. We end up walking in and theres nobody in sight so we take a seat unsure if this is what we're supposed to do. Someone finally shows up and takes our order. Appetizer arrived quickly soon followed by our meals. Mine was placed in front of me but before I could tell her this wasnt what i had ordered, she was gone. I sat there until another waitress finally realized what had happened and brought me the correct meal. She didnt even apologize, just snatched the other meal back and walked away. Food was ok but my friend finished way before me because of the mix up so she mostly sat there watching me eat. When it came time to pay the bill, the debit they brought to the table was taking forever so the lady said I'll try the other one and took the bill and my card. I ended up turning to my friend and commenting that I think i'm supposed to follow her because the waitress certainly didnt tell me to. On my way out I checked my bank account through my phone and it showed the restuarant had double charged. I went back in and the lady didnt believe me even after I had shown her proof. She said it was impossible because the first machine said not responding and even went digging through the garbage to find my receipt. After refusal to give me my money back and some heated words I drove to my bank to get a statement as physical proof that I had been charged twice. Upon my arrival back, I was informed by a gentleman that the lady I was dealing with had left to go to the bank, did she not tell you this? I sat there for an hour. She finally came back and I showed her my statment and she still tried claiming it was impossible. She got on the phone with someone and finally after wasting my time, gave me my money back. I will never ever go there again.

Yum.. A favourite of mine. Always consistently delicious. Service has always been fast for us and I enjoy the variety of salad, re-fried beans and rice, which accompany your meal. The nicely seasoned tortilla chips and salsa are a nice alternative to a bread basket. :)

I adore the feel of this place and can not wait to use the patio (provided the noise from the traffic isn't too loud). The location is not the greatest area but is unique, and the inside decor definitely works.

Highly recommend the quesadillas and enchiladas. Good pricing for what you get. Good margaritas, and delicious deep fried ice cream (huge portion-big enough to split).

Love the lime water!

I do wish more then a thin, barely there paper napkin would be provided. Always a pain asking for more, because I don't remember until I need them. :)

*Chicken sometimes tastes dry but beef and vegetarian options always delicious.

Disappointing. I want to say I liked this place - because our waitress was sweet and attentive. But that's where the warm and fuzzy ends. Our decision to try Mexicactus was based on the overwhelmingly good reviews here on Urbanspoon. It was Cinco de Mayo, so we expected it would be busy. But there were two tables open when we arrived, and we took one of them. Then we proceeded to wait for 2 hours for some nachos and an enchilada plate. The frozen margaritas weren't bad, but they were long gone by the time dinner arrived. Other patrons came and went. As for the food - our hopes were high and frankly, London has some very good Latin restaurants owing to a large, local El Salvadorian community, so the bar is set pretty high. I won't say the food was terrible, but it was certainly nothing more than mediocre tavern-style bar fare at best - and nothing that justified the 2 hour wait. I'd hoped the inconvenience would have been reflected in our bill, but we were charged for everything. Fair enough - the appetizer was on special - but I'm afraid we won't be back for a second chance.

Tasty, great value. Went to Mexicactus last night to try something different and was not disappointed! This is definitely the best mexican place in town for quality and value.
Previous reviews recommended not to be put off by the restaurant's appearance, and I agree. The moment you step inside you realize it's got a nice atmosphere, warm friendly and clean.
We skipped appetizers, but next time I will try the deep fried yuka - it looks very interested. Lots of options for apps at reasonable prices.
The menu mains cover everything you'd expect from a Canadian Mexican place - tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, burritos, quesadillas, chimichangas and more.
We started with two beers, brought promptly and ice cold with slices of lime. Our server then brought a tray of home-made corn nachos and salsa. The salsa was okay ( I prefer chunky fresh salsa). Unfortunately the chips were cold when we received them, but still seasoned and tasty.
I ordered a chicken chimichanga and my partner ordered a beef fajita. We also ordered two beers. Perfect amount of time between service of the beer and arrival of the food.
My chimichanga was absolutely delicious - moist and the wrap was fried and tasted like a pastry. Came with sour cream and a dollop of blended salsa, rice, refried beans and salad. It was very filling. I had to leave a few bites I was so full.
My partner loved his fajitas. They arrived sizzling with a tray of lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. He was able to finish his meal and was completely satisfied.
The only thing I would change is I would order a side of guacamole to go with the main in the future.
Our server was very sweet and just the right amount of attentive. She didn't smother us, but was there right when we needed her.
In all, the bill was under $40.
Tip them well, they deserve it!
Dave_n_meg
Bad Customer Service. Not a fan of this bar/grill. The food was not bad and good prices but the soft drinks were loaded with ice to the brim and barely any pop. We ended up having to get re-fills twice. (When we could find the waitress she was in the back most of the time) and nothing was mentioned that there were no free "refills" once we got our bill we were upset to find that OUR POPS COST MORE THAN MOST MEALS on the menu! maybe if they didn't put more ice than pop we could have done with one normal size drink!
Our waitress was not socialable and only talked to us to get the order..nothing else...we WONT be returning.

Excellent. Authentic tasting. Don't let the outside stop you. Very pleasent and friendly inside

The Best Mexican Food in London. This is my wife's and my new favourite Mexican restaurant. We have been here now a couple of times for lunch and a couple of times for dinner. As a consequence we have now had the opportunity to try and share almost all of the mains on the menu and we love them all. Their chicken nachos to start are mandatory as they are just amazing. We have found that for our taste we prefer the chicken over the beef when ordering a main and believe that it might have something to do with the way they season and prepare the chicken. It is just so tasty...yum! Great hot sauces, quaint atmosphere, attentive servers, wonderful food and reasonable prices what more could you ask for in a restaurant? Well Mexicactus has it all. See you again soon!

I love mexicactus...... Great spot for us locals or anyone in the city...
Lots of offerings on the menu, try something new or stick to your old favorites. They even have a lot of selections for kids or anyone that wants some more western fare (burgers, pizza)..
Well the food as far as being Mexican is somewhat authentic I guess (I've had more or less) Is made fresh, presented well and is just overall tasty!
Have been several times from Dinner, lunch or summertime drinks on the patio and always great service. Last time for two of us we ordered two entrees (golden tacos, beef chimi) an appetizer, fried pickles and a desert and were over stuffed.
They're fried ice cream is to die for, great margaritas and hey you can even buy their hot sauce to take home..
Brad
Awesome food. We had the Fajitas for 2 and a burrito with beef, it was plenty of food for 2 big eaters, we had to leave lots there. Very tasty, I would recommend this place.

Super Adorable!. I came here on a Sunday and it was completely empty but it was absolutely amazing. The server was completely adorable - Super nice!
The food was amazing - The soup (I think it was jalapeno cheddar?) and the deep fried ice cream were to die for!
I would definitely recommend trying it out as something out of the ordinary.

Kinda in a shifty area attached to a mechanic garage. There were a few customers, but not busy. Waitress was pretty slow with everything. The portions were large with our enchiladas, but I expected not just a couple a spoonfuls of rice and beans. Will probably go back again, but not for a special occasion.
Diane Purdue
Love it!. Great food, great atmosphere, great food.....oops I think I already said that! The prices are low, the portions are big and I am satisfied every time I leave this establishment.
Chris Pinnegar
The food was excellent but the service was definitely lacking both in speed and in general. I will definitely go back for the burrito though.
Meagan
Excellent value and a cute atmosphere. Nice selection of Mexican dishes, generous portions and fast service. Don't be put off by it's location or look on the outside. It is a great find!
Veronica Johnston
Food was great. My fella and I each had the enchiladas. The chicken were better than the beef. Service was a bit slow but it was a packed house. We called ahead to book a table. Service was very friendly. Nice little well kept secret in London. We will be returning for sure.
Rerunrob
The best burrito ever!. I like Mexicactus have been there twice now. My family likes it, they like allot. Best burrito ever! When it first arrived at my table I looked at the burrito thinking it looked dry, but looks can be deceiving. It was the most tastiest, moist flavorful burrito I have ever tasted. Awesome. Good food, friendly service.

AMAZING Food. By Far the best mexican food in town, and I have been to many! Service was nice and friendly. It was a little wait for the food, but it was worth it! The waitress apologized for the wait in advance as it was extremely busy and there was only 3 servers that I could see. The ambiance was cute and decor was lovely! I had the jalapeno chedder soup and the traditional beef quesadillas. for desert I the BEST deep fried ice cream! yummy!
Kadience

Delicious Chimichanga. Mexicactus is the best place I have found for mexicn in London. What really blew me away was that everything on the plate was delicious. Usually there is atleast one side item that you really only eat if you are still hungry, but not at this place, everything was perfect!
Karen Bodkin
Amazing, authentic food and great service! Loved this place & will definitely be back again!

The best Mexican food in town. This place has excellent service and is super cute. I have been going since they opened and they keep getting better. I would recommend it to anyone who likes mexican food. Try the deep fried ice-cream!

Great restaurant. The chimichanga and traditional tacos are my favorite...as well as the chips and salsa on the tables.
