Do not be swayed by the rustic charm of the front of the house of this KW stalwart for in the back lie a hoagie laboratory that rivals anything NASA could conjure up. Secondly do not be swayed by the introverted sandwich artist's short comings when it comes to hospitality as he certainly possesses a post-doctorate degree in gastronomic wizardry. This is reflected in his blissful reaction from requests for the toasted option as the recondite apparatus used to fulfill the task is certainly well kept from the local start up heathens and armchair mechanical engineers that make up the local demographic. And finally for all you old-schoolers out there don't forget to remind my man that your dining partner (friend or foe) is a cop for they shall receive that elusive condiment that is only spoken of in the most discerning circles
This is quite possibly the weirdest sub joint in the city. The menu is made out of tiled sheets of printer paper taped to the wall, "chopped" is listed as a topping, they have pictures of fried chicken dinners and coleslaw (neither of which they sell) on a broken menu board on the wall, and they sell brass candleabras for some reason. Despite all this, Big John's has the tastiest subs in the region. I am not sure what it is. Maybe they sacrifice the decor for higher quality ingredients, but every sub I've had there has been far superior to Subway or even Quiznos. Don't be deterred by its run-down appearance, you will find an enjoyable meal there if you give it a chance.
Came a few times and tried two different sandwiches. Both were very fresh and had plenty of toppings on them. Employee working was very friendly, giving great recommendations and suggestions on what to try. Prices are reasonable and they have some pretty good specials. Will go back again!
This is a take out establishment only. The subs are absolutely fantastic. Is the quality of the cool cuts and the meats are top notch. Very fresh sub buns the produce fresh and Delicious. And also oven toasted subs.. Highly recommended by myself
Had the sunflower veggie sub and the raspberry vinaigrette was phenomenal. Always excellent customer service as well ❤️
New location! Not sure if new owners or not but the new spot is clean, cute and cozy. Just down the street from their older location, so I am very happy to have found it again. I thought it closed down.
Everything was as it should be. Big John's sub sauce was still as delicious as ever. We took them home and toasted them in the air fryer. Yum! Our only regret was not getting another sammy.
If you like sandwiches, you need to try a big John's. Every unique sub they make is delicious. I just add the sauce to anything I order. Riverside is my go to.

I love this place. It's been around for a long time. They did a nice job on the new store. Not sure if it's under new management but was still as good as always
Such a great sandwich restaurant. Quality is better than you'd find with Subway/Mr Sub. I've lived in KW my whole life and can't believe it's taken me this long to try Big John's. There vegetarian options are good and doesn't sacrifice taste when you get a meat free sub!
Love that they have kept the big johns going so long, unfortunately the sub sauce just isn't what it use to be
My dad started coming here in the 1970s and it's been a staple in our family as long as I've been alive. Such great subs and a great local small business to support. My usual order is a cold assorted, chef's kiss. Never had a better sub.
I’ve loved this place for years and it still never disappoints. The mixed/assorted sub is to die for! The new location is also very clean and aesthetically pleasing. Definitely a must try if you want a good sub!

What an awesome place! Their sandwiches are well stacked and the amount of meat is definitely worth your money! Close to St. Johns Ambulance, so if you're taking a course you should come to this location.
