One of the great places for made-on-the-premises woodfire bagels (not just delicious traditional white bread ones, but multigrain, too & the traditional coverings (sesame and poppy seed and plan are the choices). They have great Baden coffee and lots of breads and other usual basics of a bakery. Gourmet Pizza at lunch is tasty and medium to higher in price. The costs for bagels and other bakery items are medium priced. Payment is on an honour system with staff available to make change! Nice relaxed, simple atmosphere and pretty adequate indoor seating with a patio area (some shaded tables) for the good weather. A big garage door opens in good weather to allow for a big screened-in area inside.

City Cafe Bakery was suggested to me by the UPS Store next door on Ottawa St. I was told your butter tarts are "life changing". Well- I definitely had to find out myself! After pouring myself a cup of coffee- one of the staff was super attentive, explained how the bakery worked- my first time visiting and gave me a quick tour of where everything was. A. MA. ZING! Great service, yes, life changing butter tarts and I will definitely be back! I even had a little chuckle with the two ladies on staff about "ringing the bell" after putting the money in the box. Thanks for a great experience - you're doing everything right!
Came all the way from the US for the bagels, left with yummy bagels and also the best of vibes. 100% recommend making the drive here. We're working to pay it forward!! <3

A great spot to buy Montreal Style Bagels. Love their sour dough bread as well. Make sure you bring cash though.
You may not come to Kitchener and not give this place a try. City Café is uniquely KW's best spot for fresh baked goods. Served co-op style in a cash only honour system, there is no more welcoming place to grab a quick bite and and coffee. Try the pizza too.
A fantastic find, there are two and the vibe is excellent. Payment is on the honour system and the decor is great. An awesome place to have a coffee and bagel.

I think the honour system is really great, creates a personal feeling and connection. I love the outside seating area, very tidy and inviting. My toddler and I loved it! By far the best BUTTER TARTS ever!!!!!!! It's also the only thing I've tried here but holy wow! I bet everything is as delicious. PLEASE TRY THE BUTTER TARTS. As others have stated, they run their business differently. It seems like they run on efficiency and quality. They want you to know what you want. It is what it is. Love the food!!
