The Grand Trunk Saloon

Admittedly, this is a place that is totally outside of my price range. But then they offered me a cocktail that really cured an unusually long and difficult day. "Coffee and Cigarettes" turned my world around completely! Ahhhh - every sip reminded me of the days when it was acceptable to order a Black Russian and light up a cigarette without having to retreat to the sidewalk :) Then came the chicken-fried steak: this was a very far cry from the tough versions I've battled with knife and fork in other years! This was tender and genuinely juicy and ever so tasty. If you like it hot, there's a bottle of hot sauce to add some zip, but I tried it both ways: the flavour here doesn't need a flaming cover-up. The ambiance is lovely: the music low enough to allow for coversation, but there enough to enjoy if you're on your own. However good the food may be for a solo meal like mine, I would suggest that this is a place to keep on your radar for special occasions and/or especially when you need to impress (s client, a boss, a competitor, a rival, a date, or the potential in-laws)! I was frankly very impressed by the staff here. I am used to having every server but the one assigned to my table walk right by me. Not the case here! My water was refreshed frequently and my table cleared by whoever happened to walk by at the moment. And three of the four even asked how I liked the cocktail. Every slow sip and savor said, "I am worth the price and so are you." Highly recommend!
