So many options for vegan and vegetarian; like literally we were confuse on what to order, as we are vegetarian and not lot of places have extensive menu designed around vegan/vegetarian group! So their employee suggested me to go with ‘The angry vegan’ which is their most popular one. It was delicious. Also we tried their in-house baked focaccia which was again so crisp and tasty.
The vibe to it is just low-key like any other downtown coffee shop. A little expensive thou. They have lot of space and we like that they won’t mind if you sit their working on your laptop for couple of hours.
I had the Reuben sandwich with kale salad. Really enjoyed the salad. Not 100 % on the sandwich it needs something more.
It was my first time trying a vegetarian breakfast wrap and it was not something I personally enjoyed (I’m a very picky eater)! A manager/owner? Noticed my reaction and checked in to make sure everything was okay. He offered me the option to try something else, even after initially refusing; and letting him know I’m a picky eater he still wanted me to leave with a positive experience. He made me a customer favourite item from the menu and it tasted super delicious! I felt so valued as a new customer, this will now be my go to spot when travelling to visit my family in the area!
Got the “Angry Vegan” and the kaleslaw as a side. Flavours were great, but a bit pricey for the size. Along with a matcha latte my total was $25. Would come here again though.

Stumbled upon this place out of serendipity. I don’t review a place till its memory has lingered for more than a day in my head. But this place is very good. And it has FREE WIFI! Thank you.
I ordered a flat white and the coffee was trop magnifique. It was well balanced. I suppose it has an entirely vegan food menu, with a few dairy items, like cheddar cheese and regular milk for your coffee.
I order the breakfast club and it came with a chunky slice of warm tofu and tempeh. It is all biodegradable to-go containers. For the location the prices are worth it. Varied types of seating ranging from small families to single seaters for students scouring for free wifi and good coffee places.
I had the chick pea mash on a bun and it was moist and flavouful. Service was very friendly and accommodating to my strict diet. Atmosphere had a college tec vibe to it and lots of window space to people watch. Would be nice to have a nook with a carpet/fake fireplace or something to give more warmth but it is a small space to start.
A good spot to spend a weekend afternoon. A huge menu selection and great staff. It was tricky to find seating because a lot of people were there alone with their laptops but were taking up tables that could seat 4 people. They also sell lots of cool art and stickers and pins to support local artists which is an added bonus.
Absolutely love Cafe Pyrus 🫶
Cafe Pyrus is one of my favourite small businesses in K/W. Their food is amazing, even for someone who not vegan or vegetarian. I love the options you are given here.
Food/Drinks
The entire food menu can be made gluten free for $1 or if you’re not feeling a side you subtract $2 from your total. I believe any sandwich can be made into a wrap as well. My favourite is the Angry Vegan with a soup. (My favourite soup is the tomato, but the lime, and pumpkin were great!)
Their desserts are also great. I have had the peanut butter cup, which was good, but very melty in the hands. The nanaimo was also great and a little less melty.
The drinks! I am not a coffee lover, but their lavender iced latte was delicious! My favourite drink is the Foggy London Town. (Lavender syrup, steamed milk, and earl grey) I have tried many drinks here and you can’t go wrong.
Cafe/Vibe
The cafe is an excellent place to sit and study/work. Their is a water pitcher with cups to grab yourself, which I love because I don’t have to feel bad asking for a bunch of water. It is currently covered in Christmas decor, which is really getting me in the Christmas spirit.
I also noticed coming here that they do art features, I’ve seen @arcasian__ and now they’re doing one of my classmates, @partypoisioner! I love the local representation.
For music, expect indie-pop, alternative. Great vibes, not too loud and great to keep a conversation with someone. (Shoutout to the person who played Midnight Rain!)
There is street parking, but if you’re planning on staying, there is Mon-Fri 8am-5pm parking for $2.24 an hour (rough estimate)
All in all, Cafe Pyrus is a must visit and I wish I lived much closer so I could be a regular. Thank you to all the kind staff and great food here!

Cafe Pryus is awesome. They have a huge selection of vegan and vegetarian options which make it suitable for everyone, even if you are not vegan you can enjoy a plate here.
Food is delicious, everything I tried here is good quality and fresh.
Service could be slightly improved. The person who brought us our drinks and food did not say a word and just left the things on the table, it felt a little weird.
Apart from that I will always come back and bring new friends:)
My bestie brought me to Cafe Pyrus and it's definitely one of our new favourite chill spots! The seating is cozy and well-spaced, the staff has always been kind and accommodating, and the menu has a good selection considering our many food sensitivities.
Most recently we stopped by for a light lunch and loved the food. I was absolutely thrilled to be able to safely eat the soup of the day - they even had the full ingredient list ready at the register for easy reference! And when I asked about swapping out the side of toast (which I can not eat) for tomato slices instead, I was met with respect and was accommodated.
I am very happy with Cafe Pyrus and absolutely recommend it if you're in the downtown Kitchener area!
