Highly recommended!. We visited the Crusty Baker on our way from Ottawa to Toronto. It is a cute European style bakery/cafe. We had soup, crepe and cookies. The soup came in a casserole and was served with white and brown bread slices. Portions were very generous. Everything was very delicious and the prices were very reasonable. It was worth to a trip. We will go there again.
Pumpkin Feast. Last weekend was a pumpkin inspired fest. For a few days including the Friday of my visit there were menu items and sweets with a pumpkin ingredient. Soup and sandwich were great as usual with a little twist.
The little pumpkin cake was a special takeaway item.
I just received a note about their anniversary tasting on Sunday Oct 21,2012.
I will try to include it though it maybe too lengthy.
"This is a great week of celebration here at The Crusty Baker. Sunday marks our first anniversary, so come out and enjoy some of the sweeter things in life."
There will be live music featuring George Buys and Salton Sea, free samplings of our Christmas treats
and a tasting table of all of our usual delicious sweets as well as homemade soups.
Jamie spends so much of her time hiding in the back preparing the fabulous sweets and breads that we are bringing her out front
all day to talk and share some of the secrets of her bread.
So if you don't come just for the music, come to meet the baker.
The Anniversary Special.
Pre-order your Christmas treats this Sunday and receive a 10% discount on your order.
Lovely food!. ...the crepes are delicious and the atmosphere is quaint, all in all a great combo...you will not regret your visit!
A Hearty Meal!. We drove in from Ottawa to have lunch at this restaurant on the advice of a colleague who lives in Kemptville.
We were not disappointed - the food was excellent!
I had the Mushroom & Cheese crepe with the soup of the day. The soup was a "Leek & Baby Spinach, Vegetable and Pork Concoction" and for me was the height of the meal. The soup alone is worth the 30 minute trip from Kanata.
My sweetie loved the loose leaf house chai tea and found her Onion & Cheese crepe quite good and more than she could eat.
The price for the meal was very good and we bought a baguette when we left.
We will return to this quaint little restaurant.
After writing the above note we checked out the deserts while talking with the owner, Jamie, and we sat backdown and had a dense apple cake, 2 peanut butter chocolate chip cookies and some coffee. It was hard to leave.
Maybe we'll return next Sunday. They have live music easy afternoons on Sundays.
Always has the freshest banquette that we love! Kids love the huge cookies. Always pleasant staff. Happy to see they are starting to have more vegan options.
The vegan lentil soup is delicious!
We were looking for a place to meet for lunch and one suggested The Crusty Baker in Kemptville, south of Ottawa, Ontario. Good idea!
This place is tiny, but full of good folks, great smells and wonderful food.
The menu is on a chalkboard and not memorized because it changes. Soups and sandwiches are unique and served on their house-made breads. We chose the chili, full bodied and flavorful, spiced but not 'hot' and served with it's own loaf of crusty bread. Also, the Italian Job, a sandwich with Genoa sausage, and one other sandwich which used Wilton cheese and ham, both delish!
Dessert is the main event here, deep and rich butter tarts in several flavors, echenfunkle (try it for yourself), mincemeat tarts, scones in many flavors (like 'Christmas Tree' with flavors of pine nuts and spruce) cookies, cinnamon pinwheels, and pies sold by the whole pie, either savory or sweet.
Check out the freezer - we did and took home a rabbit pot pie and a duck confit pot pie to remember the Crusty Baker by.
Thoughtful people, nice service, handicap accessible washroom, and an ever changing stream of customers leaving with bread loaves, pies and sweets. We came late to the feast - Kemptville knows!
Absolutely phenomenal bakery! Recently stopped by and picked up the Gunpowder & Rose Rum Almond cake and they are to die for. Excellent service, fantastic ingredients and incredibly creative menu. Pricing is very, very fair. Would stop by any time I’m in or passing through Kemptville.
Absolutely love this bakery, I trek from Ottawa just to go to this bakery. Staff are helpful and friendly and the bread is amazing not to mention the cinnamon buns and all the other delicious treats they have. A gem of a place!
A local gem! Absolutely love this bakery - their sourdough is the best we've ever had.
Fantastic staff and a great variety of treats.
What a gem! Excellent breads, buns and baked treats! Ive never been dissatisfied with the quality of this fantastic little bakery and deli. The rabbit pie is amazing and omg the Duck Confit yum! Please don't ever close or leave!
