New to the city, I my favourite method of getting familiar with an area is to do food hunting; So I ended up here yesterday night for dinner, and I think this is the best restaurant I've found so far in Hamilton! The Seafood Gumbo was delicious and well flavoured; my friend had the lamb, juicy, cooked to the perfect doneness; the waiter was friendly and helpful too. Great restaurant over all.
I’ve recently been dragging my friends to a few restaurants on James Street North in Hamilton including Saltlick, Charred, Jack & Lois, and Mulberry Street Café. Every time we wander around, we also discover other restaurants to check out. This time we stopped-in at Acclamation – across the street from Mulberry Street Café. The interiors and exteriors are elegant, neutral, and classy. Deep wooden fixtures and furniture sit in a romantic, cozy space. The staff are friendly, respectful, and patient. We had two gluten-intolerant diners in our party and they were able to find a few items to suit their needs.
We visited Acclamation on a warm Sunday afternoon in June. The little patio outside was a perfect spot from which to watch the people wandering up and down James Street.
Our waitress, Alex, was very attentive and helpful with our ordering.
Grilled calamari at $11 was beautifully presented quite good on the bed of panzanella salad.
Pimento chicken club was quite tasty.
Fish and chips consisted of two pickerel fillets and some quite good chips for a restaurant. There were not many chips, however, maybe twelve? They were stacked like logs to build a tower.
My wife had a couple of glasses of white sauvignon blanc and I had two pints of Beau's Lug Tread. The only complaint I would make about the whole time at the restaurant was that the pint glasses were not properly filled. They were short of a pint by a few ounces. I shall deal with that on the next visit and yes, there will be a next visit.
