Review Mezcal Tacos & Tequila - Hamilton

Went here for the first time last night and was not disappointed! All of the tacos (especially the pork belly special) were just phenomenal. We had the churros with salted caramel for dessert, perfect amount of sweetness. Cocktails were great too, highly recommended!

Service was excellent. Helpful, enthusiastic and quick. Very rustic decor and their wide selection of tequila is well displayed behind the bar. The washroom situation is lacking. A simple selection of beer and a cocktails. Food was well prepared and plated. There's minimal app options and the tacos have something to suit all tastes. With the pick three you'd have no problem trying 3 different veg or 3 different meats. Burrito was good too.

Update from Sept 2019- another exceptional dinner. Service was outstanding and the food was fantastic. Our appetizer (dip duo) came out promptly and the margaritas were great. Only suggestion would be to give a bit more time between appetizer and entree as we barely made a dent in appetizer when the meal came. Simply the best- service, food, atmosphere. It never disappoints. Hubby and I were there for our anniversary. Margaritas were delicious, guacamole fresh and chips fried per order. We each had 3 tacos and they were INCREDIBLE! Our favourite place to go!

Super tasty menu, small and niche tacos and mexican inspired food items. Got greeted right away when we walked in the door, had such a great experience with the staff there! They made us feel warm and welcome. My partner and I ordered 3 tacos each and 2 apps. It was actually too much food! We were stuffed in the end and should have just 1 appetizer. We absolutely *loved* their Tuna Poke Nachos. Wow! They were rich, delicious and the chips were thick and kept crunchy. We also had the Jicama salad which was good albeit compared to the Nachos were bland. We had a variety of tacos, our favourites were Pulled Pork and Fried Fish. Anything you order, you can't go wrong (though I found the pork belly a little dry).

Incredible flavour, great decor My 11 year old and I came from lunch. We had two tacos (cubana and shrimp) and Nachos Granada. Every bite was amazing. Way better than the other top rated Mexican place. Good service, but really... the food. Off the charts good. So creative. Can’t wait to go back and try other ones.

While in town, we stopped here for tacos and margaritas...great deals on Monday nights!! 3 tacos for $13 and margaritas for $5. The tacos are small but filling and delicious!! I had the cheese, cauliflower, and bang bang shrimp...all three were fried and tasty!! Lots of fresh flavors for fried ingredients! I really liked the cheese. It was my favorite. It was very filling! Chips and salsa are fresh. Chips are hot, crispy and salted. The salsa is chunky and delicious!! The margaritas are very good. Fresh lime juice. Good tequila. Nice summer drink and refreshing after a hot day! We sat at the bar and the bartender was super friendly and helpful. It is small on the inside and I think it is usually packed but worth it. We came a little later and it worked perfectly for seating!

Great food and atmosphere. Staff was efficient and lots of fun cocktails. No reservations. Would definitely come back because we couldn't try everything. Couldn't stop eating the jicama salad and my fav taco was the pig jowl and the cheese one. Definitely recommend!

Tacos are out of bounds, the flavour is full and the selection is plentiful. The portions are great, but the price does sting just a little bit. If the three tacos came with a little side (even if it was just guac and chips) it would be a little easier to swallow at 18$ for 3 tacos. The coffee here is fantastic because they get their beans fresh from the little Roastery down the road.

Great atmosphere, kind staff, quick service and amazing food. The chips and guac are a must-have and kale/squash taco is my favourite. I really appreciate the menu options and kindness of the staff in regards to food sensitivities. Excellent food for someone who is lactose-intolerant and can't handle much spice. Thank you!!

While I typically LOVE Mezcal and can not say enough good things about it, today I must say I was very disappointed in the service. As usual the food was fantastic, I ordered 2 panela tacos and 1 Fish taco. I asked for the second Panela to come out a bit later so it was fresh when I got around to eating it (as it is way better when its fresh because of the cheese). I had to ask 3 times for my second panela taco and it seemed as if it was forgotten about. Usually the service at Mezcal is phenomenal along with the food. Any other time I have been I have loved the server, especially the girl at the bar. Today, the food was great but the service was not - we were going to order churros but after waiting so long we decided against it. I will be back, but likely not for lunch as I feel like even though the evening seems to be way busier the service is 100 times better.

I've been here twice and the food was SO good both times. I tried the nachos last night and they were probably the best nachos I ever had :) thick cut deep fried tortillas for the chips... guac was delish... we had pomegranate on them which was a really interesting and yummy touch. I had 3 tacos and they were all delicious... service was great, I drank a ton of water and our server was quick at refilling the bottle for us. My only complaint was that my margarita wasn't in a traditional margarita glass - but it still tasted great! And that's a ridiculous complaint so really, everything was great and the prices were fair. I will definitely return.

After a year of trying to get into this place without having to wait 2 hours for a seat, me and my boyfriend were thrilled when we walked in and there were 2 empty tables waiting for us to sit down and enjoy a delicious romantic meal. Unfortunately there was no delicious meal for us because we were told, that because there were only 2 of us we weren’t allowed to sit down in normal chairs at a table, the tables were reserved for groups of 4 (even tho there were no actual “reservations” for those tables at the time. We were told our only options were the high top tables right beside the front windows, which had metal crappy chairs with seats the size of small dinner plates. After sitting uncomfortably for less than a minute, we decided that if we weren’t important enough to sit comfortably while paying to eat your food, then you weren’t important enough to spend my hard earned money on. I am extremely disappointed in the customer service, and I for sure will never come back.

Don't even know where to start. Everything was delicious. Margaritas were excellent. Our favourite was the Pork Jowl taco - crispy, juicy pieces of pork with pineapple pico. Hot sauce was super tasty and a welcome kick without ruining the meal. Also had the shrimp and wild boar - also excellent - just wanted MORE of everything. Seating is pretty limited for how popular it is, so call ahead if you're really hoping for a table. We were seated at the bar (plenty of space to eat) which was well attended and everyone on staff was super friendly. Is this the best Mexican restaurant in Hamilton? Probably! Would we go back? Definitely! So happy we came for Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Salud.

I came here on a recommendation from a friend and I’m sure glad I took his advice! Their tacos are pretty fantastic! I had the Bang Bang Shrimp, Fried Cauliflower, and Fried Cheese. The best is definitely the cheese, but the shrimp and cauliflower are close seconds. The restaurant itself is shabby chic, but a bit on the small side. Nice washroom facilities though, considering it’s so close to the kitchen. Our server was super amazing (couldn’t recall his name, but he had a Hispanic accent) - I would go back just for him! Didn’t have a chance to have a cocktail, but the beer selection is decent! I would love to have a Tecate when I go back - for the fried cheese taco or coirse!

Went on a Tuesday for supper and of course drinks at 5pm. A couple tables available and took one at the window. Wait staff extremely pleasant. First impressions excellent and decor fitting. Ordered 1 flight of Reposado and 1 fight of Anejo. Great way to start our dinner. I ordered nacho supreme with wild bore. Wife ordered a taco. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We both also ordered a mexican beer of course. If I had one complaint it would be the music, although good it should be spanish inspired. Santana maybe

Absolutely love the food at this place however service is another story. First time we went a Spanish gentleman I beleive from Mexico served us and was the best service I received anywhere. Last two times I went he was not there keep getting the young blonde girls and they don't seem to care very much they seem more intersted in socializing then working. I only keep going back because the food is so awesome. I have yet to have something I don't like.

Heard such great reviews for this place so we had to try it out. Went for the first time last night. They were super busy and told us there would be a one hour wait. They suggested waiting in the bar downstairs. We did that and ordered drinks and appetizers. Bar service was friendly and attentive, but appetizers took nearly 40 minutes to arrive. They were great. However, margaritas were a big disappointment - absolutely bland. Our one hour wait for a table turned out to be nearly 90 minutes. Not their fault though...it's a tiny place and they were busy. We went upstairs and drinks arrived quickly. Someone in our group of 4 ordered a pitcher of margaritas to share. Big mistake. Pitcher was over half large chunks of ice and margarita taste was non-existent. After 15 minutes wait we ordered our food. Another 15 minutes later they lost their power....not their fault..we heard the bartender say "not again." But they said absolutely nothing about it to customers ....no apologies, no explanation, no thank-you for your patience. In fact, no eye contact. A full hour later power was restored. When we questioned them fidteen minutes later about when we could expect our food, they were frystrated, but later sent over tequila shots....a nice gesture but all we really needed from them was more personal contact..A half hour later our food finally arrived and one person's order was wrong....tacos instead of burritos. Another ten minutes later the right food arrived. Tacos were so-so, the burritos good. Bottom line...a bad night for them, and maybe that affected the food. But acknowledging the problem, chatting, even a little humour, etc. could have made a big difference to our experience.

Was visiting from Toronto and went here for dinner last night. Waited 30 minutes for a table. Once seated we waited over an hour for our food. When we asked our server about the order he said he doesn't remember who we are. He finally figured out who we are by looking at his notebook and seeing our order written. Then he tells us that they are now out of the clam which he talked us into ordering in the first place. It turned out that he forgot to put in our order. He didn't even come around in that hour to ask us if we wanted more beer. I've never encountered such terrible service. Once the food finally arrived we were in a pretty sour mood.

Such a fun place. Yes it's a long wait to get in, but go downstairs to Uno Mas for a drink while you wait! It's also amazing. Delicious food, superb cocktails. LOVE the ambiance. My fave place in Hamilton :)

Staff is great, food is amazing and surprisingly cheaper than expected. Highly recommend it! Recommend they get a bigger place as we had to wait 3.5 hours to eat for a party of 12 since they do not take reservations. They should really make an exception for large parties

The staff are so friendly and accommodating! Gluten free items to choose from on the menu (just ask) Rockin Rolla was amazing. A wonderful, cozy, friendly environment with great food and some amazing beverage options!

I was telling a friend about this restaurant and went in on Saturday. The hostess gave us the option of a table by the window or seats at the bar. We chose the window. We told the wait staff that we were there for the drinks. One of the wait staff decided to educate us about the policy of retaining the tables for people who are eating (people were eating at the bar). We paid our bill and left. Policy does not make sense

Loved the cool vibe of this restaurant! The margaritas were delish. Make sure you order the fresh guac and housemade chips - OMG! Had the pork belly, bang bang shrimp and the monster truck tacos (monster truck was out of this world; and the other two close behind)! Just a whole lot of YUM!!

Food was absolutely amazing. Best marguerita I've had in my life. Our server Leah gave us the best service we could've possibly asked for! Can't wait to come back!

The Taco Salad is the most amazing thing l have ever tasted!! Fresh guacamole....rice....salad...yum! Next up Taco Supreme with wild boar!! Staff are just as great as the food!!

Anejo old fashioneds are amazing! The service has always been great for us. My only grievance is walking through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. I know there’s not much you can do about that, but the dish area was a disaster last night and seeing food coming out of there was a bit unappetizing
