Review West End Diner - Hamilton

Took a drive from Mississauga to have lunch with friends. Heard good things about this eatery. Certainly did not disappoint! Excellent friendly service, large portions ( brought home left overs) and offer a Seniors Menu, which is awesome! Reasonable prices too. Very happy with our lunch. Will post pictures of our meals. Wonderful experience at this restaurant. From the get go, the person that greeted us was very friendly. Our server, Amy, was very good. She was professional, provided good recommendations, was efficient and proactive in her service. At no point did we run out of coffee or water. The food was great. We had the 8oz chopped steak(hamburger steak) with home fries and rye bread and the veggie omelette with home fries. Pictures for both are provided. Food arrived in a reasonable time from the time of order. Will definitely return to this restaurant in the future. Thank you Amy and thank you West End Diner for the nice experience.

Had no idea where to go for dinner, and this is what came up on Google. I have to say, this is the best food I have had in a LONG time. Really enjoyed ourselves. Coffee is a little weak but the service and food make up for it. We will definitely be back. I ordered the veal and it is the size of two sandwiches! Also amazingly good. Prices are reasonable and worth every penny. I didn’t try the soup but the table beside us did and it smells and looks awesome. Such large servings too!!! Thanks for the great meal!! Picture is the half of my sandwich I am being home!! Look at the size of it!!!

This place was fairly nice. I think the only concern I have with it is how close everything is together. The table next to us was so close we were almost part of each others conversations. The front counter also.being front an center with all the bustling and yelling going on, understandably so it is a busy restaurant, felt slightly awkward. Though don't let this take away at all from the amazing quality of the food we have gotten. Usually I am not a fan of getting restaurant fries because they are either too big or soggy. Yet these were crispy and perfect along with the mouth-watering juicy burger. So if you can get by a slightly cramped dining room to enjoy some top quality family comfort food, this place is definately for you.

Great place for all day breakfast! The service is fantastic, menu is extensive and the portions are plentiful. We visit this place regularly for breakfast but the lunch and dinner options are quite good too! Today I had the mushroom & Swiss burger and I have to say it was the best burger I’ve had in years. Mashed potatoes were super tasty as well.

I love going to the West End Diner for a meal with family and friends. The staff are always ready to great you will kindness and are quick to take your order and bring out some authentic dinner food. If you like livers then this is the place to go.

Excellent food, Staff and service. Price of the menu is very good. I always get the Lamb Chops. Good size and 4 of them each time. Large amounts of food served on each dish. Many times the other dishes are too large to eat at one time so take home boxes are often used.

My in-laws decided to spring a surprise invitation to the West End diner on us as they have been regulars for years and have wanted to return now the city's COVID restrictions are relaxing as more and more are fully vaccinated. The soup of the day was Beef & Barley and it was delicious. Hearty and warming. Exactly what I wanted out of my soup. My partner had the fettuccini alfredo and I had the hot turkey sandwich. The portion sizes here are the best part hands down. They fill up your plate and takeaway is almost expected! The biggest drawback was the prices for the lunch/dinner menu. It seems COVID has been hard on everyone and simple meals have gone up to almost 15+ dollars a plate for some items. The breakfast menu is still consistently affordable though so I would recommend for breakfast! All-in-all we will be returning as usual but maybe a bit less frequently as the price raises have made it a bit more difficult. Please consider trying this West End staple!

Quickly going downhill again! West End Diner food order wait times for the simplest order have doubled, even when the place is slow. 35 minutes for 4 very simple orders is far too long. The food in the past was usually good, but we've had to start sending plates back. Why? Because what we've ordered isn't what we are getting. Certain newer and longtime wait staff need to CORRECTLY WRITE DOWN THE ORDER. If you are wanting tips, which stands for 'To Insure PROMPT Service', then stay off your darn cellphones, which the staff also seem to be on.

Another big concern is The West End Diner isn't remotely close to being clean at a minimal level and is nowhere near as clean as it used to be. The new manager needs to get off whatever substance he is on, because he's not fooling any of the regular customers, old and young.

We are regular customers of the west end diner. We have never had a bad meal there. I have a sensitive stomach and oil bothers it, eating at the diner has never been a problem for me. Whether i have a veggie omelette, or chicken soulvlaki on a pita, which is delicious, or even once in a while, chocolate pancakes, i have never had a stomach reactions to any of their food. Their portions are large, their prices are reasonable. You do have to line up early on the weekend, but it is worth it. Of yay, i almost forgot, what about that montreal smokes meat sandwich, add a second sandwich for .25 cents, or 50 cents, and it comes with a side dish as well! What a deal!

Have been there several times and is generally good: large portions, comfort diner-style food. Not gourmet but the place is good for what it is.

Good diner food, good prices. The wait for a table is too long, and poorly organized. The wait staff makes mistakes, and adds to the wait time. I went here frequently when it opened, but stopped going when I was served on filthy cutlery and given a straw that had been stepped on on the floor.

Came with relatives on their recommendation on a Saturday afternoon around 1:00 pm. We didn't wait to be seated at all, as the restaurant was fairly empty but it took nearly 20 minutes for someone to come take our order, and then nearly an hour after that to get our food. The food wasn't bad, standard diner fare really, but you'd think it'd take less than an hour's wait for the cook to put some meat on some bread and put it on a plate!
Apparently my aunt and uncle come here all the time for breakfast so maybe they're a little quicker in the morning than at lunchtime, but I wasn't impressed.
Next time they suggest this place, I'm going to say no thanks. I could drive to Burlington and have lunch at a decent restaurant and then come back to Dundas in the time it took to eat here.

Went here for breakfast with my daughter. It was Saturday morning and it was packed. There were 4 group ahead of us and we had to wait 20 mins to get a table. A lot of the people there knew the hostess and waitresses which is a great sign.

Atmosphere- The place is a simple family style place with a combination of tables and booths (some 2 seater booths available. Nothing fancy with kitchen at the center.

Food- My Greek omelette was full of feta cheese. It was excellent. The fried potato were seasoned nicely but a little soft for me. I like them with more of a crispness to them. This was served with baked beans which I thought was an odd addition. I think something lighter like sliced tomatoes or a few pieces of fruit would work better. My daughter had 2 sides- french toast - really tasty bread but it is a shame they do not serve real maple syrup. The fruit bowl was not the fruit cocktail variety but it was fresh cubes of melon, honeydew, grapes and pineapple. Very nice.

Service- The waitress was very friendly. She had our drinks quickly . We asked for and received promptly large glasses of water with lemon (without asking for lemons - ( I love that) I did ask for jam for my toast and she forgot to bring it until the end of the meal. It was so thing that could easily be missed especially since it was so busy. She noticed at the end and apologized for forgetting but I would not hold that against her.

Impression- My daughter has taken a liking to try breakfast places which have not been my routine . However, I think she will ask to go back.

This place is great. I am always greeted by the owners and their family, it's always such a welcoming environment. I would recommend the chicken souvlaki on a pita, it's pretty big and a tad hard to eat but it tastes amazing. Nice amount of garlic and lots of chicken; I find that it's a good idea to opt for home fries over any other side. They have rosemary or something in there sometimes. I like them better than Russell Williams (restaurant in Burlington) and that's saying a lot.

Just had breakfast at West End Diner, the food was delicious and the price was very reasonable. Busy, not a long wait, server and the owner was so friendly. This place definitely worth your money and food, way better that Cora, Sunset Grill and Eggs & I.
Nope
Pretty Good. Got a surprising amount of food for the price, more than enough to fill anyone up. Food quality was good, although not amazing, it was good for the price. Food came fast and they were around to tend to us frequently with coffee and the like. Staff was relatively friendly although they seemed a little rushed even though it wasn't that busy. I think they could do with a little extra staff.

AWFUL. We decided to go for lunch to this restaurant and we were totally treated like garbage. We placed our order around 12:15 and at 12:45 we still had not received our meal and yet those around us who ordered after us were all eating. We had asked our waitress 2x how much longer our order was going to be and we kept getting the same answer "in a few moments." We only ordered regular breakfast so nothing fancy. We then had to inform our waitress that we needed to leave as our lunch was over and we needed to get back to work and when she went and told them the "owner" as she referred to him as he started yelling "CALL THE POLICE" as if we were walking out without paying. Well we were going to pay for the tea and coffee that we drank but why should we have to pay for a meal we did not receive? He proceed to yell at us in front of the whole restaurant as he said "YOU ORDERED AND YOU NEED TO PAY". Total BS that we had to pay for something we never even got to eat. And we were really annoyed when another waitress informed us that this is a really busy place. We understand it is busy but when everyone around you who ordered after you is eating and you are still waiting for bacon and eggs 30mins later it is apparent that someone misplaced or forgot our order. NEVER will we go back to this place again and we will make sure that we inform all that we know who go there what horrible and disgusting service we received. You should treat people with respect and understand that word of mouth is a very powerful thing. How awful to make people pay for something they never received. Thats called a LOSS in a business world and if he knew how to run a business he would have apologized for the delay and taken his LOSS!!!!

Good food. We go all the time...great service and my 87 year old mother can actually eat something! She is very fussy. Joanne is especially nice but all staff is good..the owner hopefully realizes his good fortune.

HIT AND MISS. I eat at this diner almost every day. They have EXCELLENT Greek food!!
When I went the first time I ordered poached eggs but wasn't sure how to ask for what I like, so I explained "soft yolks, firm whites" The waitress told me "medium". I got them and they were hard. I sent them back and they came back still hard, but not quite as hard. 2nd visit I shared my first experience and when I got the eggs they were runny and gross. I sent them back and they came back perfect! But it's clear they don't have a system - it's hit and miss. So I've since switched to omelettes which are fabulous! The other reviewer said they smelled like a grease pit when they left, and it is true. I have noticed that.
The Philly Steak sandwich is one of my favourite items on any menu but this one does not say that it is covered in bbq sauce. It was NOT good at all, but that's only because I don't like bbq sauce. Next time I ordered it without and it was great. But the problem is, when you tell them about issues, they say "Thank you so much!! we'll take care of that right away" but they don't. I ordered a Philly from another waitress another visit just to see if they would tell me that it included bbq sauce, but she didn't say a word. And the BIGGEST downfall of the place is that they don't have a separate line for their debit machine!!!!!! So if you are trying to pay with debit and someone calls, it fails. I stood there for 15 minutes trying to pay once. All the wait staff suggested that I talk to the owner about it. So I did, and he told me "we will have that changed right away! Thank you!!" That was months ago. Still no separate line. The bottom line is that there are some VERY awesome wait staff there like Joanne, Alicia, Brenda (with short hair) and they have some VERY awesome food, but there are small things that they could easily take care of, but they don't. It's busy and I guess that's all that matters. I love most menu items and have learned not to go during their rush hours, and to carry cash on me.

Awful Service and Rude Staff. We went for Sunday morning breakfast and felt completely rushed. They brought our breakfast promptly, but proceeded to take my plate away without asking if I was even finished.

After getting us to pay quickly after taking away the plate, the waitresses started hovering around our table and looking in to see that we were finished. We were trying to finish up our coffee before leaving when one of the waitresses came by and asked us to leave because there was a line up outside.

Going for breakfast on Sunday is supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable, but we felt completely rushed and felt it was completely rude that they would ask us to leave as we were still trying to finish up.

This is the breakfast place to go in Dundas and Hamilton. As a local I have tried all the breakfast places and this is our favorite. Food and staff are top notch. Come here and give it a try I'm sure this will become your favorite as well.

Not good. Server was running around cussing in the back kitchen, not a place to bring a family. Food was iffy at best, undercooked bacon and home fries.

Great food for a great price! Awesome all day breakfast and a dinner menu that can never get boring! I don't know how they make so many different things so well but they do! I was reading the review before me regarding wait staff and have never had an issue. Always received great service.

Good Food Good Prices.. but the smell!. They have good food and the prices are right, it's always busy, probably for those reasons, but when you leave there, you smell like a greasy kitchen! You don't notice it on yourselves, but believe me - others do! Go.. eat... then go home and change your clothes or air yourself out for while. It's too bad that they can't ventilate it better or close off the kitchen or something.

Best in Dundas!. Came here for brunch on a Saturday. The whole place was very busy, but the wait for seats was not long at all. Amazing food, friendly staff, and the food came to our table very very quickly! I ordered a breakfast combo which included spinach and cream cheese eggs benedict, home fries, and assorted fruits (I submitted a picture of the lovely brunch above). Best place in the Dundas area to get brunch, hands down, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quick, yummy, and very filling bite.

Great old-school diner, excellent value. The West End Diner is my diner of choice in the Hamilton area. Good, hearty, tasty diner food at excellent prices. Great value. Fantastic Eggs Benedict, always perfectly poached, and very good Beef Dip. The service is as consistently great as the food. Have never had a bad experience at this place, and often take friends there. Highly recommended.

Perhaps we picked the wrong day for our first visit... the kitchen's main exhaust fan was not working and the place was a bit more chaotic that it must usually be. I ordered the seafood chowder. Not great. Very, very thick and light on taste. They comped it. My wife ordered the chicken souvlaki pita and enjoyed it to a degree. Good flavour, nice presentation but really too saucy and thus "gooshey" and difficult to eat. The service at this place is top notch. Well give it another try sometime.

Top Shelf Comfort Food. It's simple:

If you want super-tasty food - go to West End Diner.
If you want quick and friendly service - go to West End Diner.
If you want an inexpensive plate of comfort food - go to West End Diner.

Honest to goodness, the place covers all the bases. Fine dining it ain't, but fresh burgers, all-day breakfast, homemade soups, fish & chips, liver & onions, it is and more.

I recommend it every day and twice on Sundays.

This place is absolutely terrible. I am absolutely disappointed. I have given this restaurant more than enough chances. I order hard poached eggs and EVERY single time they are undercooked. I have also received presents in my eggs such as Egg shell (classic), black lint, oh! And TIN FOIL! I have made all of these things aware to the manager several times and actually stopped going there for several months in order to give them a chance to step up their game. I just went back there today, and ordered my usual order from any breakfast joint. Eggs, poached hard, pea meal bacon, rye toast and tomatoes instead of hash browns. I got my meal LAST out of my entire family, and the eggs were still totally runny. NOT HARD AT ALL! So, I asked the lady to take them back and make sure they were poached hard. After my entire family was done eating, I get my poached eggs back. Our server stands with me to ensure they are poached hard when I recognize there is black lint on top of my first egg. So, I move that egg aside and let her know about it. However, the other two eggs seem fine so I start to dig in as she is walking away. In front of my whole family and two men sitting beside us, the eggs EXPLODE in my face. I suffered burns on my face and on my finger from this mishap. THIS DINER NEEDS TO STEP UP THEIR GAME. I will never EVER Go back there, and I suggest you think twice about having breakfast there.
Ill never go back and neither will my family.

Exactly What I Was Hoping For. I needed a place to meet up with some people - West End Diner was exactly what I was looking for. We went for lunch, and the place was busy, but had tables (and parking) available still. The portions were great (we had a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich, a Peameal on a Kaiser, and a Beef Dip) and all meals were very delicious, and the prices were very reasonable. We bantered with the wait staff, who were very friendly. The downside, if there was one, was that the coffee was... typical diner coffee...

Awesome place. I have been there a few times for breakfast and dinner. All our experiences have been positive. Large portions, fair prices, excellent service. Best place in the city to have breakfast.

Great Breakfast Spot. Hamilton was in need of a good breakfast diner. West End Diner has answered the call.
Party of 2, zero wait time around 11am on a long weekend Sunday. The staff was friendly, food great and price reasonable.
My girlfriend had an apple juice and eggs Benedict while I ordered a coffee and West End mixed omelette. We both enjoyed our meals and the 3 eggs that came with the Benedict were perfectly poached. At the end our bill totalled $25.00 and our server was excellent. We weren't rushed and were treated like regulars though we were new customers.

It looks like we have finally found a nice breakfast spot in Hamilton.

Love this place!. My boyfriend and I just moved down the street a couple months ago and we discovered this little place. We Love it! There is just so much to choose from and everything we have tried has been exceptional. Love the breakfast, reasonably priced and lots of food for take home afterwards! I would definitely recommend it. The Staff is so nice as well, they like to ask you how your day is and I have never gotten an order wrong!

A friend a I stopped in later in the evening and realize we'd arrived right at closing time. The cook and the waitress insisted that they could still serve us. We were seated and ordered a breakfast plate at close to 9 at night. The food arrived fresh and was very good. We didn't feel rushed but the waitress, even though they technically closed as we sat down. Great service, good selection of menu items. Something for all tastes.

Our Favourite place to eat. This new business is a great place for both all day breakfast and a hearty dinner.
Breakfast is hot, large portions(3 eggs + toast, home fries, baked beans and sausage or bacon) for an excellent price. We have never been able to finish a meal!
All staff are extremely friendly and attentive, serving quality food in a pleasant atmosphere. We highly recommend this lovely little spot

Very good diner food. Very fresh ingredients. Exceptionally well priced. Good value, friendly.

Great value and fresh tasting brunch we had. It is great that they have kept some of the Greek menu from when it was It's All Greek To Me. Since its opened it's always been busy every time we drove past. So we tried it on a recommendation and it did not disappoint. Will return for sure.

Great food great price. Chicken souvlaki dinner fantastic, breakfasts great value, and drop in for seafood soup for lunch.
