Reviews Mashawee Mediteranian Grill

One of the absolute best places in downtown Halifax to get a cozy, homestyle meal. It's not fancy but the staff are friendly and warm. Sometimes it feels more like a small town diner or lunch counter than a place off Spring Garden Road. The portions are very large and the prices are very good. All the food is delicious and comforting - the shwarma and falafel wraps ($5!) and chicken special are incredible deals but the big dinner plates like the lamb biryani and kabsa and the veggie platter are massive amounts of food for a very fair price. Always get the kabsa rice with the dinner plates and get some garlic sauce with everything.

After walking past this restaurant countless times, my curiosity finally got the better of me and I stopped by for a quick meal before heading to the movies a week ago. I've now enjoyed their delicious Lunch Special (roasted chicken, rice, potato, hummus) twice in the past week, along with a slice of their mouth-watering basbousa. Love this place! Friendly service, great location, amazing food and a welcome alternative to fast food - what's not to like? Highly recommend!

Honestly? I think this is the best restaurant in Halifax, and yes I've been to Agricola St. Brasserie/Brooklyn Warehouse/Ratinaud etc. I don't know what it is. Everything is perfect-- the spectacular seasoning, the quality, the freshness. As many other people have mentioned here, the staff are the nicest people and the value is unbeatable. I usually get the mixed grill platter and then just eat that for three meals straight.

I learned about their $5 shwarmas today and decided to try one out. I'm very happy I did. Staff were very friendly and went the extra mile to make my wrap just the way I like it. With such an excellent price there was even room for desert in the budget. I'll be coming back!

Forever my go-to takeout spot. I always get the half-grilled chicken with biryani rice 10/10. Honestly the portion size is incredible, deffo get your moneys worth. As well, the staff is so accommodating and always gives me extra coleslaw instead of hummus and I really appreciate that!

The food is very tasty. The lamb was very moist and tender, the rice was cooked perfectly, and above all, the humus tasted amazing! What was even better than the food was the Turkish guy, the Palestinian lady, and the Lebanese man and woman. They were very hospitable and nice!

I adore this place! The food is delicious and they are generous with the portions. There's some newer reviews mentioning the change in staff and the service not being the same, but I have no complaints. The young gentleman that served me the other day was polite and set the expectation how long my wait would be until the food was ready (10-15 min). Please don't change anything Mashawee! You are a hidden gem in Halifax :)

Early morning - Their open sign wasn’t lit up, but I still walked in. Was still able to order food as they were preparing to set up the place for the day, which was rlly convenient for me as I was super hungry. I got shawarma with the works and 3 samosas, the place had a homely atmosphere and smelt really nice from all the different spices in the food. Big shawarma for the price and each of the three samosas were different and each tasted good and delicious in their own way.

MUST TRY - The wraps are amazing and the perfect size for lunch. Had the chicken wrap and OH MY GOD it was delicious. My colleagues also ordered the Kufta platter and were very pleased with them. I had a bite of it as well and was loving it. The size would have made a better supper for me though.

Probably the best Shawarma I have had in NS and that is saying something! Locally-owned family business. Everyone is kind and a smile - careful attention to the orders and everything they make even when busy - which is a lot, because they are that good and well-known for it! Vegetarian and vegan options, all tasty, even for the carnivores! Best garlic sauce, too. They crisp the outer wrap just like I want it, too. Oh, and awesome selection of import beverages too!

When it is good it is very good, but they can be inconsistent with the quality. Portions are big and I usually get either shawarma or the chicken dinner or biryani. Recommend staying away near closing time as I find the quality drops alot the last hour or 2 before closing. Quality also varies depending who makes the food. If they were consistent this place would be amazing.

This food is literally so good and the portion sizes are very nice. I went there on Friday, February 18th for a chicken platter and a beef platter (with a vine/grape leaf on the side) and my friend could not stop talking about how good the food was too. The employees were very helpful and let me test out a few things to make sure I'd like it before buying, and they gave their expert opinion where necessary. We both plan to make this place a favourite for the future and I for sure am letting everyone I'm in contact with know how good the food is as well. Edit: there was a hair in my food :(

We were in town and just driving by to run errands and we smelled the fragrant spices coming from somewhere and decided to try it out. Well today was the day. The food was flavourful and filling. We ordered the dinner special which was oven roasted chicken, potatoes, rice, hummus and coleslaw. So service is crazy busy when we went so you don’t really know who to place your order with but you wait until they assemble what comes in via Skip/Uber and then you might get your order in. Be patient and give it a try.

**UPDATE - 4 years later ** Prices have more than doubled so a shawarma wrap is now $9.95, and making it a combo is now an additional $7 or $8. I still go here but it's no longer a great value, just ok. It would be nice if you could choose between a wrap and a 'meal' (rice, potato) for the same price. The 'meals' they offer are all quite a bit more expensive and too large for one meal. Note The quality is inconsistent depending on which staff members are making your food. It can be fantastic, mediocre or not good. DO NOT under any circumstances order from here on Uber eats or delivery services. Not sure why but the quality is very bad. Burnt food, dry, no veggies, soggy etc etc. Consider yourself warned. ---- Original review ---- Love this place. I eat here once or twice a week. The food is so yummy and the prices are awesome. My standby is the beef shawarma wrap ($5!!) Combo (add $4) with fries and a drink. So filling! The hot sauce on the table in the red squeeze bottle is perfect. Everything here is freshly made and they operate in high volume. They also have savory pastries which are great for a snack and baklava.

$11 wraps are delicious and a great size for the price. Eaten in-restaurant and gotten delivery multiple times and the quality is consistently good.
