Review The Captain's Boil - Halifax

Samira Alam
The captains boil flavour seasoning is a must try. Unfortunately everything is on the spicier side to the point where our young kids were unable to eat anything at the restaurant. Delicious food but costly.

We had a great meal, the seafood was great as was the captain's boil sauce (would highly recommend). Ordering was pretty simple and it was a great opportunity to get messy and eat with our hands.

Concept restaurant. No plates, bibs provided and they are not strictly a gimmick, it's going to be messy. Get each thing you order in a separate bag. Strive to understand that sentence before you order!! It's probably pretty overpriced. Having said all of that, 5 stars! Simple and fresh. Fun family experience!

Only grabbed a drink here. If you're in the mood for very specific seafood only perhaps a great place but cant speak to that. Think crabs, oysters and lobsters. Menu was limited. Hence we just grabbed a drink here. Deck is nice with a nice perch for people watching.

Good food, the sauce wasn't what I was expecting but was a good surprise. You don't get much with the crawfish though. Service started good and waitress was very nice but at the end of the meal it took about 10-15 minutes to get the bill. But overall good experience.

It's a bit pricey but a fun experience, you'll really need to work to get the food out of the bags.

Friendly staff, quality service and tasty food. It is on the second floor. Spacious and nice seating area. Parking could be a problem.

Awesome place!!! New way to got the seafood. There offer the food by bag, and gave the gloves try to use my hand eating the food. I was so excited. Fresh stuff, the lobster and mussels so good!!!

I think it was one of the best seafood supers I have had for a long time the king crab was the best the calm and mussels were great mussels are from New Zealand twice the size or more of a pei mussel everything is priced I think as it should be the king crab is fresh tasting it's pricey but it's a treat with any meal u order there is something for everyone on the menu can't wait to come back

Amazing service and great staff !! My first time going and it was an all around experience itself. Enjoyed snow and king crab. The portions were huge but perfect. I even took my shrimp and mussels home they were awesome even an hour later. I highly recommend the mix and match as well as captain boil sauce for shrimp and mussels and garlic butter sauce for crab. Price wasn’t as bad as I was thinking but for both it was 111$ plus tip. I really enjoyed

A unique dining experience. I had the mussels with garlic sauce/mild and they were very tasty.

Great experience, the spice levels are not as hot as you think, there was a long wait for food and drinks though

Our waitress didn’t explain the “concept” to us (and was rude and dismissive when we asked). The “sauce” options for my deep fried shrimp were ketchup or tartar (served in little plastic takeout cups). Waitress looked at me like I had six heads when I asked if there were any other dipping sauce options (Cajun, creole ?). No, there aren’t ....so my (very dry) shrimp and fries was definetly not worth the $. The plastic cutlery etc is something that sounds “authentic, charming and folksy “- but at a true Cajun boil....you would have finger bowls, great atmosphere, and so much sauce and drippings it would be MESSY but delicious and fun. This restaurant is like having seafood in a hospital cafeteria....or seafood night in a college dining hall. That this restaurant can stay open in Halifax where there are literally dozens of amazing seafood places to choose from is mind boggling. This is “authentic seafood” in the same way that McDonald’s is “authentic bbq “. Wouldn’t return.

Should've had a clue when we walked in at 3pm on a Sunday and the place was empty. Boiled chicken. No thanks. Paper plates (small) and flimsy plastic forks. Even when you order an add on or side, it's either in the bag with your protein or in a separate bag. How about a real plate, so you can build a meal. Service was ok. After waiting 10mins +, we finally got up to get the bills. Decor was still 90% pizza delight. Definitely doesn't reflect the name of the restaurant. It was cold, so most didn't remove coats. Thank God for the kids' chicken tenders and fries, or I would've left still hungry. Hubbie loves seafood. He ate what he ordered but said he'd never go back. Out of 7 adults, only 1 said they'd go back. We were excited to go and was totally disappointed. Never again.

I was so disappointed with my order. I ordered the lobster roll with the bisque. For over 17$ I was given shockingly little. I discovered the pad and decided to order with skip the dishes, the courier was wonderful. When I opened everything I was given less than half a cup of soup (I took pictures) and the lobster roll was under filled, bland, and was literally nothing than frozen tasting lobster on wilted lettuce and a burnt bun. Dinner ruined.

Yes the waiter was excellent really smiling and friendly. She served us in a timely manner. Quite a different experience eating the crab from a bag but I guess that goes along with the theme. I was open to trying something new and this this was definitely new. Felt nice to digg in with my hands. the side dish was good but it was overly drenched with garlic. Other then that everything else was great. I would come back again.

Excellent service! The king crab was totally worth it. Our server Anita, was great to explain the options and how ordering works! Seafood was excellent, cooked perfectly. The cajun fries finished off the fresh fish nicely.

Service was good, food was delicious! I have to say it's rather difficult to peel shrimp wearing plastic gloves. I think a good option would be to offer a plate of rice to dump the contents of the bag onto. I'll be back but I think I'll get clams or mussels which should be easier to eat.

Word of mouth of The Captain's Boil and looking at their website made me want to go. The service was okay, it might help some new people if the server asks if clients have been there before and explain how things work. We had Snow Crab, Crawfish, Mussels and corn. Everything was really good and the muscles were huge. Prices can been found online or before ordering and were reasonable for a seafood meal. After reading others reviews I'm sad how lame people can be. Clearly if you '"Just came back from".... you haven't actually gone to places with a Crawfish or Lobster Boil because if you asked for cutlery at a boil they'd laugh at you.... princess.
