Review Jincheng Chinese Cuisine - Halifax

Really great food, have wanted to go here for years. Very authentic Chinese food focusing on the Sichuan province. Had their Gong Bao chicken (which is similar to Kung Pao), hot and sour soup, and one of their tofu dishes which surprisingly had pork in the sauce. Everything was delicious, I had 2 out of 3 spice level and it was perfect (I do love spicy food though). The soup was thick and full of tofu and veggies. I'd recommend looking for a picture of the menu to study before going as it doesn't describe what the dishes are. Would be helpful to look up the names to find out what is in the dish.

Authentic Sichuan food. Try the mapu tofu and gong Bao chicken. Ask for them medium spicy. This is a hole in the wall place so don't expect fancy decor.

This spot is uniquely great. The atmosphere isn't much to write about, but the food is phenomenal. I've tried most of the menu, and in my opinion, the stand outs are the Chili Chicken, the Cold Spicy Szechuan Noodles, the Di San Xian, the Dry Fried Green Beans, and the Spicy Shredded Potato. It takes a bit of time for them to prepare the dishes, but it's always worth the wait, and consistently perfect.

The food is really good. It’s authentic Sichuan food. 10 out of 10 for the food. But the portions were a bit small for the price. We had to wait over an hour for our food. Because there was only one person in the kitchen and one waiter. I would definitely go again.

Have been here couple times. Family owned restaurant that serves authentic Szechuan dishes. The food is superb and the water boiled beef is my favorite. Highly recommend if you are looking for authentic and spicy Chinese cuisine.

Best food in Halifax. Service is slow, decor is shabby , and they don’t keep refill your water after every sip, but damn the food is to die for! Avoid typical Chinese American fare and order anything labelled Szechuan medium spicy.

Absolutely delicious Chinese food with authentic flavor, spice and heat. Many great dishes twice fried pork belly, cumin beef, spicy rice cakes and many many more.

Loved the food. LOTS of flavour. Don't be afraid to order something that you have never heard of. I would not come here for a romantic evening with wine and expecting impeccable service. That said, the food is delicious.

Great food! Best lunch I've had in a long time. Worth the wait. Medium spicy was perfect.

I am addicted to their spicy chicken leg appetizer. So crispy and deliciously tender on the inside. Also love the ginger beef.

Very good spicy and made fresh. Excellent dumplings with correct sauce. It’s about the food.

This is the best, most authentic Chinese food in Halifax. Prices are fair.

This place might be the only true Chinese restaurant in Halifax.

Ever since Jin Cheng opened their Gong Bao Chicken has become our favourite dish in Halifax. This is a no frills, family-run establishment that aims to provide you with authentic Sichuan food - not fawn over your every dining need. I wouldn't have it any other way. Come eat here and you will be eating the best Chinese food available in Halifax.

BAD!!!!!. Wow, so disappointed! I usually save my praise for a restaurant until I've tried it a few times and this time I'm very glad I did. <br/><br/>We had their food a few months ago and aside from them not answering their phone at all the first night we tried to order, the next time we eventually (still about an hour) got through we were quite happy with it. It was tasty, reasonably fresh and a nice change. We like spicy and this had some nice kick but there was still room for the other flavors to come through. The mouth watering chicken was. The wonton soup was some of the best I have had, etc, etc. I was really looking forward to our next meal from there.<br/><br/>Tonight, however, they answered the phone and boy, do I ever wish they hadn't! First off, 40 mintes turned into 1 hr 20 (they weren't at all busy). The only flavoring they used was the bottled Sichuan chili oil and they DOUSED it! Everything was literally swimming in it! Even the wonton soup was drenched in the stuff. The only dish not covered in the exact same sauce was the Yang Chow fried rice which was sooooooooo salty and just a mushy mess. It. Was. Gross. Threw most of the "meal" away. :(<br/><br/>I don't know what happened there, but I do know what won't be happening there again; me spending my money.

Right on Sichuan. Yummy. Gave this place a try last week. To my taste very, very similar to the Sichuan food I had in China. By which I mean delicious, spicy, numby (yes numby) goodness. We had the wonton soup, twice cooked pork, and dry fried green beans. All way better than I was expecting. Will be back for sure!!

When I was planning my recent trip to Halifax, I did some searching interesting Chinese restaurants on the internet but was unable to come up with anything beyond the highly westernized types I like to call ‘Chop Suey Joints’. It was thus with a measure of pleasant surprise that I came across this tiny little hole-in-the-wall Sichuan place just a few minutes walk from my hotel. The name, which means ‘Cheng Capital’ refers to the city now known as ‘Chengdu’, and as the menu explains, the establishment specializes (very ably and well, as it turned out) in the spicy cuisine of Sichuan’s capital…

I was transported back to the days of the Hungry Chili: chunks of fresh, sauteed peppers and onions, the crunch of nuts (albeit, this dish features peanuts and not cashews), and plenty of chicken bits. Tastebuds pleasantly tingling, I found myself reaching for a gulp of water after just a few bites.
