I really like this bakery. Is a bakery a dying breed? It was a challenge to find a place to get a fancy birthday cake. It's not everyday I buy a fancy birthday cake and $37 is nothing to sneeze at, they look the part and you can order something special if you like but I wanted to buy something off the shelf.Great helpful friendly instructive staff and that means a lot.
I love the stools and the counters by the windows. A great place to hangout. I hope to come back and try some of the tasty bits for lunch soups and pizzas and chilis. I've been on a diet as of late so I was really looking forward to tasting this chocolate cake but I have to admit I was a little let down. It was a little too heavy and dense for my taste, maybe heated up with some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream and it would have been perfect. Maybe it was perfect and I just don't like chocolate cake as much as I thought I did :-) I did try a cupcake sized ‘birthday cake’ (sadly I can’t recall the name) which was a white pound cake and white icing which I found delicious. Great coffee as well.

Dropped in to get a carrot cake to share with everyone at work. Very delicious and such a decadent treat. My parents introduced me to this place... it has been open for years and it is now one of my favorite spots for a meal that reminds me of home. The corn chowder with a sandwich.. damn. Hits the spot! Recently I did try a vegan/gluten free brownie and I thought I could easily finish the whole tray.... easily.

Good coffee, though it is self serve and there are no free refills. I enjoyed the baked goods we sampled. The tables are awkward, wobbly and oddly placed. When they chose the metal backed chairs I'm guessing they didn't take into account the amount of glare from the sun. It was pretty uncomfortable but would be fine on an overcast day or in the morning when the sun isn't coming right through the front window, bouncing off the chairs and burning my retinas. Free wifi and reasonable prices though. I would go again but not on a sunny afternoon.

If I had to pick somewhere to go for breakfast that wasn't The Ardmore Tea Room, it would be Smith's Bakery. Everything here is nothing short of phenomenal. They offer breakfast and lunches, corfee, a huge assortment of baked goods, drinks from a cooler, etc.
Prices are extremely reasonable given the quality, everything feels very homey and cozy.
$5 for fresh bread, $3 for yesterday's fresh bread IF they have any left.
I heartily recommend the breakfast sandwich, it'll set you up for a late lunch.

Great selection of delicious desserts, breads, etc but some of their other menu items aren't available later in the day. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be visiting again.

The coffee was fine. The sweets especially the biscotti and s turtle square was delicious and very reasonably priced.Staff were very friendly. Diner feel atmosphere. I will go again and try their breads.

Smith's is old fashioned downtime goodness! Bread is like a cloud. Desserts are just divine, like mom used to make. Baked beans are very yummy. The lunch counter for sandwiches are always tasty.

We were walking down the street and wanted some place to stop for lunch. This place had a great little menu of sandwiches and decadent desserts. We loved it! Definitely worth a peek if just for dessert!

Despite it being a bit pricier for what you get, I have to say it was really tasty and most certainly I regret not getting more while I was there. Nonetheless, I guess I can see now how Smith's has stayed in business for so long!

Picked up a 7" chocolate cake yesterday. It was delicious. Everyone loved it. Unlike store bought chocolate cakes that look like chocolate but lack the chocolate flavour this cake tastes like chocolate. Excellent service and price. Can't wait for my next celebration so we can enjoy another of your cakes!!!! �

For many years while working in downtown Halifax I would have breakfast at Smith's Bakery while my vehicle was serviced at Hydrostone Auto on West St. (another great establishment). I am now retired and visited the bakery with my wife a couple of days ago for the first time in a while. All I can say about Smith's is "same old"...Same old great food, same old great service and same old great "new" people. I had the traditional breakfast...perfectly cooked and as always the fresh bread makes it wonderful

I just had a slice of Smith's Veggie pizza, and I have to tell you - the last bite was arguably one of the best. This usually doesn't occur unless there's something stuffed in there. Even as leftovers, Smit's pizza is still the best I've had, hands down. I love the staff and the atmosphere. I've easily been to Smith's over 100 times and I can vouch for their consistency. If you walk in and see something new - TRY IT! Or just get an O'Nuts. It's like a cookie shaped chocolate bar, except buying it wont make a big corporation slightly richer. BUY LOCAL. EAT AT SMITH'S BAKERY.
