This is place is my sweetest non-guilty pleasure! My favourite treat to myself here sounds so simple but it really is better than butter! I always get a medium brew coffee, the alter-eggo and one of them amazing coconut flour-based chocolate chip cookies (please never take those off your menu). lol The Alter-eggo is so simple but you won't find any other breakfast sandwich in the city like it. The English muffin that it is served in completely melts in your mouth... its far different from any other English muffin that I've ever had. Welalin!

Alteregos is a gem. The owner genuinely cares about her staff as well as the clients and is an excellent human herself. Staff are welcoming and attentive to customers while making consistently delicious food. Food is so good and and super fresh! Coffee and hot drinks are delicious. Licensed! Local art available for sale. Great music played by staff and local dj's. Cozy, welcoming and comfortable. The cafe is a great gathering space. Highly recommend.

Brilliant little hostel very friendly staff and very helpful. Highly recommend that if you can get out to the other quiet little beach hostel even for a day it's well worth it. Amazing place would stay here again :-)

I absolutely love Alteregos / Backpackers Café! Over the years, I've enjoyed amazing lunches, incredible espresso beverages of all sorts, and the relaxed and comforting environment. As a bonus, nearly a decade ago I was introduced to my amazing partner, comrade & wife Suzanne at Alteregos over coffee with a mutual friend. The staff is terrific, and it remains one of my all-time favourite spots to enjoy a conversation with a friend.

Another coffee shop I haven't paid much attention to and now regret it. Love the vibe and the clientele. Staff seemed nice but didn't have much chance to chat. Will go again for sure.

Incredible food and a really relaxing atmosphere make this a favorite lunch spot. Stop by early to get your hands on the famous jerk chicken, so delicious it never lasts long. We will both order the same dish if it's still available.

One of my favourite places, ever. Such good energy in this place, very kind and genuine staff, always great music. And their bean burrito is insanely delicious. I don't even like beans that much but id live off them.

K so I work near here and go in all the time but yesterday I woke up literally having dreamt of an oat milk peppermint mocha with an extra shot, which is crazy cause I'm not a mocha kind of person but tis the season I guess. Like I don't even think I LIKE peppermint mochas but hey it seemed like a premonition. Anyways I told the lovely person behind the counter this and they made me literally the drink of my dreams like it tasted just like in my dream and how did you even DO that. It was perfect and now that is all I want, all the time

Fantastic little cafe on Gottingen Street. Very warm, cozy room, I really enjoyed my visit. I tried the London Fog tea at the barista’s suggestion and I’m glad I did: it was wonderful, as was the bacon cheeseburger. The ingredients were as fresh as if I had gotten it at some expensive, upscale restaurant on the waterfront- except it tasted better and at half the price. Alteregos Cafe is actually quite an important business in the community. Not only does it serve excellent coffees, teas, and food at prices everyone can afford, but it also takes in travelers needing an inexpensive place to stay, for the cafe is attached to a backpackers hostel. (Speaking of which, the young lady who made my tea deserves a raise in pay: besides preparing my tea, she also made my burger AND checked in a bunch of guests. All things of which she did amiably and professionally.) The only other place I’ve enjoyed eating at as much as Alteregos is The Henry House. **Added shortly after: This is NOT a “sketchy area”. I thought it was a perfectly lovely area; the few people I passed were friendly, there’s some other great businesses open on both sides of the street, and there’s some brilliant old homes I took pictures of as I headed down Cunard Street. Maybe it used to be bad, but it’s a nice neighborhood to walk around and explore now because I had a great time. (Also, the breathtaking St Patrick’s Church needs a community fundraiser though... it’s too beautiful to stand silent all week except for two hours on Sunday morning.)

Favorite coffee shop in the city. Great coffee, reasonable prices on tasty food, and they're even licenced, meaning you can also grab a refreshing locally brewed propeller beer with a friend. The staff are all wonderful people, they host great events, and the walls are all beautifully covered by local artists. They're definitely one of my favorite parts of living in the north end. Can't recommend enough.

I'd been here several times for early Saturday breakfast a few years ago. Really liked the various menu items, could usually get a table and sit with a book for an hour and be very content. Fast forward to 2021 and came for a weekday lunch with a coworker. To be continued as my phone won't let me type beyond this sentence in this app...?

Super cute spot with great staff! We got breakfast sandwiches here and everything was cooked to order. You wait a bit longer for it, but it was worth it. We will be back!

i Really enjoy this cafe for its good coffee and food options at a very reasonable price but above all it’s the environment and atmosphere you can’t beat! Great place to meet friend or finish up some work or just even by yourself the staff are generally friendly and there’s lots of great local art to admire. I love when they host poetry nights aswell!
