Review Mary's Place Cafe Ii - Halifax

An Alarming Amount Of Oranges
This place is fantastic! Reasonably priced, lots of gluten free options and the service is quick! The coffee is also pretty good. It can get busy but it is worth the wait. Their home fries do have a coating on them and they are really good but I don't think they're gluten free. I do recommend the champ. Their hollandaise sauce is a bit sweeter than I like it

You'll have an excellent and quick breakfast at Mary's Place. I had a lovely bfast sandwich made with a croissant and my partner had the Birmingham. All very tasty! The only black mark on an otherwise great experience is finding out that we'd been charged more for the Birmingham than was advertised on the menu (shown as $13, charged $16). I would request that Mary's update their menu to reflect actual prices. Also the restaurant itself isn't properly ventilated and is very hot, particularly the bathrooms. The space could also use some sprucing up as it has a cafeteria feel.

Excellent food. Kelly and her team are awesome. Very friendly and attentive. Thank you so much! 10 min walk from Dalhousie U. (we stayed at the residence). Will definitely keep in mind next time we visit (from Toronto).

Amazing service! Friendly staff. Definitely would come here again! The fishcake was amazing đź‘Ź

Every time I come to Halifax I always make an effort to eat here. The owner and her staff do a fantastic job of taking care of you. It’s a diner that makes you feel like family.

We came for the vegan breakfast options. The tofu skillet was fantastic. We got gluten free bread with it which was tasty and crunchy. Since the home fries have gluten the server recommended we substitute potato Pattie’s and those were excellent too. They were similar to hash browns but not as greasy. The VLT was delicious as well. The highlight is the vegan bacon from Real Fake Meats. Possibly my favourite vegan bacon.

Quiet, cozy place, lovely people, lovely service, love the food!! Coffee is great. Best Florentine, BLt, crab cakes, French toast, portion and ratio is perfect!!! (Feedback from all of us)

Good food, good service, friendly and quick, we had the eggs florentine, and the breakfast poutine, both were delicious, the one thing I would change is to ask for my poached eggs to be a bit runny.

The people working here (and the owner) make it the most comforting and welcoming experience. I can't express how much this is the place for you if you're looking for a retro vibe diner with great brunch food.

This humble dinner is made spectacular by tasty food with good portions and... ...the friendliest and most welcoming staff. Happy to have gone. Hope to return. P.S. Always get the garlic home fries.

The only good thing I can say was that our server was nice. We ordered 2 chicken shawarma and they were spicy (never have I ever had a spicy hot shawarma) and just tasted bad. My son had fries in his and they were hard and he had difficulty biting into them. We ate less then half each. When I tried to explain that to the lady at the cash she was rude and blew me off.

I can appreciate when it's busy and the place is full and the server's have limited time but, when a place is full have a systematic way of serving customers so they don't have to wait more than anybody else. After getting seated I waited 20 minutes only to see people who were seated after me get their orders taken. I left and went to Starbucks across the street. Maybe I'll be back who knows, my daughter loves the place.

I enjoy coming here for lunch breaks as I find the service is quick and the atmosphere is casual. The menu is diverse, the food tastes great and it is reasonably priced. Every time I visit the service is fantastic and I feel welcomed.

We had brunch here today and it was fab! The fish cakes were top notch-great value, good service. This was our first visit, won’t be the last

The menu is huge, really great food and value. It's more than just breakfast, there're tons of local, organic, grain-fed, halal, gluten free, paleo, vegan and vegetarian options for lunch and supper too

Absolutely superb. One of the friendliest and best places to eat in the downtown area. If you haven't been, you're missing out.

Excellent service, best breakfast in the city for an unbeatable price. Friendly and accommodating staff!

Food is very good and the owners are sweet hearts, but some of the service staff especially the early morning ones are very rude. They make you feel like you've ruined their day by coming in to eat and can't be bothered to get of their phones to give proper service.

Amazing food and staff. Been going here for years! They treat you right!!

Good food at reasonable price. The atmosphere could be better. If I could give 4.5 stars I would.

I love, love, love Mary's II. The food is inexpensive and sooooo delicious. Only complaint is that I wish they did their amazing eggs Benedict every day of the week instead of just the weekends.

Food is good but the way the cook speaks to the staff is rude and uncalled for, in my opinion.
Vanessa Lynne
Their vegan lunch options are great! The potatoes in garlic sauce are a MUST!

Food was awesome especially home fries!

The food is good - my biggest problem is deciding if I want breakfast for lunch or a good hot turkey sandwhich. Very quick service, you can call them and have your food ready in 10 minutes! Great for quick lunches.

I love the diner food. It's good. It's just not worth the price anymore. The prices have been jacked recently, and breakfast for two is now in the $25-30 range. It's a bit much for a regular breakfast that isn't anything special.

I have had mixed feelings about Mary's so far. The tornado burger just blew my mind. 3 six ounce patties are not for the faint hearted. . literally. I loved it! On the other hand, the lamb kofta (kafta) wasn't tender enough for me. Kinda on the chewy side which I did not enjoy much, but I did like the lentil rice, salad and hummus. To be honest, I probably should give their other menu a few chances but so far I am on the edge. The staff is very polite and helpful though so it's always nice whenever I go there so would most certainly try their other dishes. Also, 98% of their menu has gluten free options.

I definitely prefer the Mary's Place on Robie St - much smaller, the regulars are friendly, and it's a nice place to relax. On Spring Garden it was packed and loud (not an unpleasant loud but loud enough to want to just eat and get out). The staff were definitely working hard and well, everyone was super friendly. Great place, maybe I just came at a random rush, as I overheard another girl say she had never seen it so crowded.
Oh, and amazing food, too. :)

Not the value it once was. Now that they've jacked up their breakfast prices (by charging $1.75 for the bad diner coffee that used to be included) the value isn't what it once was. Breakfast for two is now around $30. I think we'll be exploring other options in the area.

Great Diner. My first impressions when walking into Mary's Place was how homey and warm the diner felt. It fells like you are walking into your grandmother's kitchen. We were greeted immediately by a really friendly lady who also noticed our posters we were carrying from a protest we just attended. She gave words of support and proceeded to answer my questions regarding a vegan menu. She said that they will take care of us and answer any questions. Basically anything they have they can accomodate us and also mentioned they do lots of gluten-free options as well.

When browsing the menu, I noticed many options and one really cool feature was their vegan combo menu listed on the bottom. Three items for 10 dollars and any additions are only 2 dollars extra. For Halifax, that is truly a fantastic deal. Hubby and I both went for combos. Many of the dishes are Indian in orietation. I ordered the garlic potatoes, basmati rice and veggie patty. It arrived promptly and was a good size portion.

The garlic dip was a bit discerning when looking at it but we called over the waitress and she assured us that it was vegan, with no animal ingredients. The food was tasty, filling and satisfying. I loved the potatoes!

We both enjoyed our meal and the pleasant service we received, as well as it being extremely affordable.

Next time I hope they have vegan ice cream in so I can get myself a vegan milkshake. :)

Great Breakfast!. I have been to this gratifying greasy spoon numerous times for breakfast and left stuffed and happy! They have a great menu at great prices, perfect for the many students that frequent this place, or anyone who appreciates good service and great food. The service is friendly and the atmosphere of the always crowded restaurant is convivial and electric! A perfect place for an early morning breakfast or a late afternoon hangover cure. Awesome!

This is my new favorite spot! It's perfect if you go to Dal, and don't want to eat the same old stuff. The food was delicious and the price was unbeatable! The service was amazing, too. Our server was extremely nice and knew what she was doing, even brought us some water right off the bat. I was very impressed with everything. I would definitely reccommend this place!

GREASY! And I usually like greasy spoon breakfasts. At Mary's everything tastes the same (eggs, bacon, hash browns...) like whatever oil they cook with. I've been a few times and it's never good

I've eaten here a couple Of times for lunch. Love the fries and my favorite entree is the turkey blt sandwich. Good portion sizes and great coffee.

This is Mary's Place, too?. I went to Mary's Place Cafe II for lunch on Friday and I was not impressed with anything. I have gone to the other Mary's Cafe on Robie St and have always enjoyed my dining experience there.

As I walked into MPC II, I took a look at the menu and decided to go with the chicken kabob combo type plate. I asked the young lady behind the counter if I could add on a portion of extra rice with the combo (suggesting that I would pay for the extra portion) and she said no problem. As I picked up my takeout, I asked the hostess if everything was in the bag and she replied yes. When I arrived back to work, I was quiet upset that I did not receive my: plastic fork or knife, any of the dipping sauces that were supposed to come with the meal, my can of pepsi drink, and my extra portion of rice! I was very upset, and did not have enough time left on my lunch break to return to the Cafe and gather the things I needed to complete my combo. Needless to say I had a dry lunch with no dipping sauces or drink. What made matters even more dry is that I paid a total of $19 for some rice and a crispy charred kabob. I think I am going to stick with the Robie St location from now on.
