Amazing good food! Prices have recently been updated as well, so here is the most up to date menu as of June 2023. I’m from the west coast and the first spot I dined in here on the east coast was Minato sushi! The old school pink classic building just stood out from the rest of the surrounding buildings. It’s well worth it! And it’s only run by husband and wife, super kind and generous vibes from them. Recommend trying it if you are looking for some good Japanese food.

Stopped by for lunch. They weren't open on time but it didn't take too long for service to start. The broth was good although I feel like the toppings were lacking in variety and quantity in comparison to what I would expect based on how much I paid.
In any case, food came quickly, staff were friendly, and restaurant felt quite cozy. It was a good experience.

This place is very cozy and nice place to have Japanese food. The owner, chef James and his wife were very kind and friendly. We had chef's special sushi and roll plater and an extra roll on the side plus tempura for two people. It was too much food for us two but we killed it!!!!! It was sooooo goooood 👍🏻 especially scallop sushi was the best one for me :)

A great expensive experience I had here. BBQ eel nigiri is awesome, sake is perfect, tuna belly sashimi is highly recommended and the salmon sushi roles are super delicious because of the Korean sushi rice. Will come again soon.
Visiting again after a long time:
It's even better. Just give the eel role a try followed by sake and miso soup.

Minato is one of the best places in Halifax for delicious sushi with it's own unique taste. There are tons of sushi places in Halifax, but Minato has a great combination of traditional sushi and then with it's own local flare! I've been here many times and have never had an issue with my order, and the price is great too! Can't wait to come back :)

I absolutely adore this place. It has amazing food, amazing tea, super relaxing and there's so much art. Heres our rolls with unagi, surf clam, octopus, and genmai tea (brown rice green tea)

It’s tucked away in downtown area. Food was delicious. Good presentation of most things, but wish there were more cooked veggies with the teriyaki salmon entree

I had just gotten to Halifax and wasn't sure what to expect for Japanese food, but I was highly impressed by this little place, that has apparently been in this location for over 30 years! The building it's in is also pretty darn cute.

Best sushi in Halifax such a hidden gem. Always a great experience and the owners are very friendly. James makes great sushi that is authentic and taste amazing. Always ask to make it spicy adds so much more taste! Highly recommend!

This was my first visit here and it didn't disappoint. I walked into a cozy environment that felt warm and inviting, and was quietly and kindly welcomed. As I perused the menu. I could hear the table in front of me pretty much moaning over how delicious their sushi and Udon bowls were. This made the visit even more promising and, it didn't disappoint.
The food was simple and utterly delicious! It was nicely presented and it was served in/on unique and pretty bowls and dishes.
The service was polite and professional but warm and welcoming at the same time.
Prices were very reasonable, which was a nice break from the prices that are often encountered now a days in restaurants.
Overall, a wonderful (and very tasty!!) experience and highly recommend this restaurant!

My husband and I went for dinner earlier and we had a great time. Good service and quality food. Had bbq eel, chicken karage and Minato Ramen. The roasted brown rice tea was really good. We'll definitely come back.
