They have well priced quality coffee, great treats, good tunes and a wide variety of books.
I'm not a big reader myself but I'm serious, I will be going back for another coffee for sure!
Awesome place, would recommend to anyone!
This place is a quintuple whammy of a delight:
1. The baked goods are always fresh and delicious,
2. the coffee is lovely and well priced,
3. they're always playing music I like,
4. the staff is courteous and friendly,
5. and their book selection is well curated.
Every time I go I find myself making some hard life choices so that I don't spend $200 on books. Weight gain from eating 2 tarts, a large slice of coffee cake, and a mini pie is unfortunately unavoidable.
What a Gem! Friendly people, great coffee and freshly baked goods, interesting reads. The perfect place to let your morning begin.
Our favourite coffee in HRM ...the best. Plenty of good books too.
A quaint little bookstore that serve a great cup of Java.
Books, coffee, water ... The perfect day.
A supremely cozy spot to study or work. It's a quieter cafe for sure, with lots of books to read while you're there. Modest selection of drinks and baked goods but quite yummy.
Trident's atmosphere is really what's 10/10, and worth making the trip for if you're not downtown. Also, god bless that they are open till 9pm, we desperately need some more night time coffee shops, and these hours are greatly appreciated!!
Trident Cafe is a great spot to unwind with a good book. The cozy atmosphere, excellent book selection, vegan treats, and great coffee or tea make for a wonderful experience. The staff is friendly, and the morning sunlight streaming through the window adds to the magic. Highly recommended.

This vibes if this bookstore/cafe caught our attention so we had to try it for ourselves! The cafe features a good selection of drinks that you can get hot or cold and some pastries. The bookstore has a wide variety of gently used books for incredible prices! This spot is perfect to enjoy a drink while indulging in new books or your favorite classics!

Amazing cafe, a small place with a huge history, not far from the waterfront, or from the train station. I would drop by there every time I want a coffee and read a book, or just hang out with a friend.
Such a quaint little place. One of my favourites just to hide away from the world, the smooth jazz, low sound of conversations and coffee making just take white noise relaxation to a whole new level. I love this place so much. Great food, great prices, and more than anything, great staff!
Wonderful bookstore and cafe. Great selection of baked treats as well. This is also the only café in the city to my knowledge that allows people to smoke indoors, as its conducive to the aesthetic of the store. (if you ask the owner for permission first, he is a very kind man.) I come here every morning and smoke my pipe tobacco over a cup of joe and read.
Nice little spot, books are in good condition, some have worn covers/spines, and around 3/4 of new price. Coffee is good and atmosphere is lovely.
The owner isn't very chatty but is nice and cares about the place and the drinks.
There is a 60min sitting down limit right now because of covid.
Lovely store with a great atmosphere and even better coffee. It's really nice to see they've brought back indoor smoking (as it's clearly conducive to their aesthetic).
An unforgettable coffee experience.
I was beckoned by the simple, yet enthusing sign that read "trident".
It's elegance whispered to me that these people must carry their sense of style into everything they do... and that was the truth. I opened the door and fell into a beautiful aromatic world of premium coffee beans, crisp pleasurable tobacco, and wise old hardwoods. It was far from the grey hustle and bustle of urban halifax! I'd finally found some reprieve! I found myself giddy and overwhelmed, sandwiched between nothing but sharply dressed academics and bookshelfs! Ahead of me was a path leading to a counter. I followed this path, and looked up to find all manner of treats galore , and a wise old man illuminated by the backdrop of a coffee bean roastery that looked like it was plucked straight out of the 19th century! He took the fragrant pipe out of his mouth and welcomed me with a simple, yet charming "you look like you've had a long day, could I interest you in a cup of joe?".
Ever since then, trident has been my happy place. And I'm sure you'll find yourself right at home here too.
The gentleman with the beard and the small round glasses makes the best latte in town
