If you want an authentic and unpresuming diner experience, you can't get much closer than this. It's like a tiny slice of the best parts of the 50's. Service was prompt, friendly, and accommodating. Portions were generous and reasonably priced, and the food was obviously prepared with care and attention. It is diner food, though, so don't look for healthy - although admittedly we ordered indulgently - but even then what we received was wholesome by comparison to the commercially-preparedand overprocrdsed norms found almost everywhere else.
This one's a gem. Don't pass it up.
I get the breakfast poutine every time, and it is always amazing. By far my favourite place to get breakfast when I’m in the area.
I recently visited here with my father. He used to visit the place as a student. When we walked in, the place was full, but it had a cozy feeling. I had the meatloaf, but I asked for (homemade!) cranberry sauce instead. Dad was happy to bring me to a place that had a lot of memories to him. Stop by, you won't regret it!
Best food in the city for the best prices. You can't beat breakfast for $4.99. (Bacon, eggs, and toast) The pancakes are wonderful and the milkshakes are out of this world. Perfect place for weekend brunch!
Incredible lobster eggs benny! Great staff and fast service! Can't wait to go back!!!!
I loved working there many years ago . My Mother in law also worked there as well as my husband . have not lived in Halifax now for many years . This was the best place in the city to eat.
Great service, great food with awesome prices. We all loved their breakfast.
I love breakfast! Service is always bang on, even during the busiest times.
We always get the same thing every time we go there. Eggs Benny which is delicious ! Service is great . Cozy little place that is always busy with the buzz of voices from each table . Servers are polite and smiling . Anytime we decide in the spur of the moment or plan on just running out for something to eat we always go here . Always enjoy it and definitely will be going back! Thank you Ardmore !
First thing i do while planning a trip is to search the best places to eat in that town. Went to this place on Sunday morning to start our day with amazing breakfast and the place was totally jam packed. Average waiting period was 20-25 minutes. This place is one of the best places to have breakfast in halifax. After grabbing a seat, we ordered for:
Lumberjack plate: It had 2 sausage, 2 eggs of your choice, 3 strips of bacon, ham, assorted hash brown and toast.
It was a fulfilling breakfast at so much affordable price.
Rating:
Ambience: 2.5/5 (Just a normal shop)
Taste: 5/5 (Mind blowing)
Portion size: 5/5 (Good enough and fulfilling for one person)
Staff: 4.5/5 (Courteous and polite)
Value for money: 5/5 (Absolutely)
Good food; great prices; all day breakfast. Plus they offer other food choices as well. super speedy service, coffee top ups with a smile. Not voted over 10 years witb having best breakfast/greasy spoon joint from the Coast paper without good reason. Small place; but worth checking out. Cash only.
Really cute place. I love coming here because the food is priced more than reasonable. Great breakfast spot at a good location. I usually just go for breakfast food and get bacon and eggs, etc. it's always very food. The staff are very friendly. Cash only, so don't forget to hit up the ATM before hand.
Cheap Breakfast. I love going to Ardmore for their cheap, tasty breakfast. I was originally put off by the fact that you have to order hash browns as a side (if you want them), however the prices are so reasonable that it is still less expensive than going to other restaurants that include hash browns in breakfast plates.
It is an old school diner style restaurant that is often full as it is so popular, and has good food at great prices.
Yum yum yummy. Visiting Halifax on a family vacation and we came to Ardmore for breakfast two of the three mornings that we were there. It is soooooo yummy, I ordered the omelette both times and ate every single bite both times. My dad ordered the breakfast burrito both times and really enjoyed it. It's probably a good thing I don't live in Halifax cause I'd be here every day!! Definitely the place to be !
Great spot for breakfast or dinner. Lumberjack breakfast for only $750 or terrific fish and chips. Bring cash, no debit.
Have driven by this place many times, it looks like a dive from the outside but so glad we stopped for breakfast, best ever eggs Benny with grilled steak, they only took cash so be prepared.
Best cheap breakfast place in Halifax! Lumberjack Breakfast is great. Some of the best breakfast sausages I've ever had. Go to the Ardmore!
My favorite (affordable) breakfast spot in Halifax! Usually fast and friendly service. Cash only
Ardmore Tea Room. Great little breakfast spot.
Very reasonably priced, quick service, good food.
Service was friendy and fast, food was even faster! It was also delicious :)
Breakfast Done Right. This little gem does breakfast right. It's a homey diner that serves the kind of food they've probably been serving for teh last 50 years. Its well prepared, abundant, and above all - tasty!
I'm a sucker for their eggs benedict and the hashbrowns have a kick of seasoning that doesn't dominate or numb your palate. It's what keeps bringing me back and while I've ordered a few things off the menu I have a hard not ordering my favorite standby.
Parking can be tricky but there's lots of side streets nearby. Also, I believe they only take cash so going prepared is always handy.
Greetings from Iowa!. I fell in love with a beautiful woman there over breakfast one morning last year. Although the long distance relationship is now over, I'll never forget that quaint little tea room where I felt love & happiness like I never knew existed. Oh yea, the food was good there too. Coffee so/so.
Never Disappointed. I have to admit, I haven't been here near as often as one should! The food is always great and you can't beat the pricing. The biggest appeal to this place??? THE STAFF! They're amazing....true service people! The staff always seem like they enjoy their job too! Bravo!
You can't go wrong. I've had breakfast once and lunch twice at this wonderful old-fashioned little diner. The food and service have been above average both times, and the prices are low.
For lunch, the fish cakes were great.
For breakfast this week, we had the breakfast special - two eggs, bacon, toast (with unlimited jam and peanut butter in containers on the table), and a pile of home fries. $3.75, as recommended by our very nice server. I did not see the special on the menu; it may be related to the time we were there, which was 6 am.
The only thing which is perhaps disappointing is the coffee, which is at best average.
Delicious & Affordable. I've had nothing but fantastic breakfasts at the Tea Room. The french toast and home fries are delicious and the homemade milkshakes are HUGE! The prices are very affordable.
My only complaint is that when calling ahead to check on how the breakfasts are cooked (a visiting friend has an egg allergy), I was told that it would not be a problem because the griddle has specific areas for eggs, meat, etc., but upon arrival we were informed by our waitress that it wasn't true and that everything would be contaminated. My friend was only able to get toast.
If you have no allergies, I highly recommend this diner!
This was my kids first time here. It is now their favourite restuarant. My son just said he hit the smoked salmon jackpot with his omlettte.

Delicious Pulled Pork Eggs Benny at a great price, and very fast service! Not a whole lot of home fries but for $10.25 can’t complain.
I won’t say their name out of respect but didn’t really like my server, they had a bit of a negative vibe, just the facial expressions and such. I still left a 20% tip and was out in probably 15-20 minutes on a Tuesday.
Not my #1 breakfast spot but I’ll definitely be back down the road!
An amazing restaurant for your breakfast!!
1. Very cheap price.
2. Quantity and quality of food is very reasonable.
3. This restaurant has own vibe and culture.
4. If you feel tired with huge restaurants companies, you must visit here.
This restaurant is pretty popular and normally has long line to wait so you should come early. I strongly recommend here.
You know it must be good when there’s a queue outside! The queue moved very fast though and we were seated quickly. Very friendly service.
Best breakfast I had whilst in Halifax. Really tasty breakfast poutine and breakfast burrito.
Would definitely recommend!
This is a quaint and cheap place to eat. Service is usually excellent. The food is simple, comforting, and always good.
We went here at 9am, and the place was packed. We waited for 5 minutes and got seated. WORTH THE WAIT. Amazing food and very friendly staff. The food came out in a flash and checked all the boxes for what I look for in an all-day breakfast restaurant. I strongly recommend eggs benny on their waffle. Plenty of food for a cheap price, this restaurant is definitely be one of my favourite.
Hidden gem in Halifax!
The food was fantastic and the prices can’t be beat. We loved the simplicity of the menu and the old diner feeling. The location was not ideal, and we had to wait about 15-20 minutes in a line outside to be seated.
The only areas I could recommend for improvement would be:
- Updating the menu and including listed children’s plates (we ordered sides for our little girl, which were not listed on the menu);
- Expanding the footprint of the restaurant or seeking a new location. This spot is too small for the popularity: we felt very cramped in our tight booth because it is evident that they are trying to seat as many people as they can inside. There are freezers in the main sitting area used for food storage, so I also believe the kitchen is also too small for their needs; and
- it seems their primary clientele is university students, so as a business it would be pragmatic to offer something to continue to draw that group in (a rebate, a coffee stamp system, or a secret menu item just for university students perhaps?)
All in all, we will be back again, but only if we have a lot of time to spare, and aren’t starving because of the wait.
Really good food, it's not too greasy. Food tastes fresh. It's definitely a great place for a normal breakfast. Staff seems stretched thin, and the location is very busy.
We really love this place, the food is amazing, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is a busy, buzzing neighborhood vibe. Excellent experience every single time! You might have a brief wait, but it is absolutely worth it. The waffles are the best (and I've had waffles in Belgium). These are just as wonderful. Whether you have them sweet, savory (under an eggs benedict), or as a cheeseburger (I kid you not)! You won't be disappointed 😁
great prices, fast service and good food! expect a wait! we made that mistake and were out in the rain for half an hour but it was well worth it. eggs benedict was good but the blueberry waffles are TO DIE FOR! i didn’t get them but i wish i had, definitely a treat for next time i come.
This restaurant offers not just some of the best value brunch around, but the best period. The service is super speedy, and in my dozens of visits I've never had a complaint. The prices are amazing, and the food is incredible too. We also find the portions to be perfect, not too big. The coffee is good and endless if you want it to be. The iced coffee is certainly not to be missed either. The menu is pretty comprehensive - offering options for anyone - yet simple and straightforward. Brunch runs till 2, which is hard to find anywhere else. Even if there's a line, don't be deterred- it usually moves fast and is definitely worth the wait.
