Review Gahan House Nova Centre - Halifax

Delicious food and generous portions! The interior is very cool, lots to look at and admire. Our server was really nice and patient despite our constant distractions making us forget to look at the food menu to order. The brown bag chicken comes with a TON of fries.

I'll start with the pros. The calamari and mussels were excellent. Both season perfectly. The mussels were in an original sauce that most other restaurants are skipping out on. The tartar was also a fairly generous portion. Very fresh. The service was friendly but not the fastest. Adequate speed, I'd say. The fish and chips were alright. The chips were so good. Great seasoning. The fish came fried in their beer batter. It's good, but heavy. After a couple of bites, you start to feel it. We removed the batter from the second strip and ate the fish. Still very good.

I visited here for the first time recently. The food was pretty tasty. I ordered the chicken wings, pork belly tacos, spinach salad and cheesecake. The wings were crispy, but not that flavourful. The portion size was fairly small for the price. The tacos were delicious and the cheesecake was tasty, but pretty sweet for my tastes. My favourite thing I had was the spinach salad. It was sweet and tangy with lots of different textures from the goat cheese, walnuts, cranberries and onions. I found that the service was somewhat lacking. We weren't in a rush so it wasn't a big deal, but it did take over two hours for our appetizer, entree and dessert. I understand that it was busy when we visited, but our server was almost impossible to track down most of the time.

Spacious spot for large gatherings. Food-wise, loved the seafood chowder and the fish cakes. As for drinks, the Hibiscus sour was pretty memorable. The staff was super friendly too.

We had our office party in the private room of the restaurant. It was an amazing experience. Food was excellent and the service was good.

Dropped in for a quick drink with family who were waiting for a show at the local theatre to start. Despite not being in there very long it was very evident how delighted the table was with their service. The cocktails were excellent. I have had eaten there in the past with no complaints either. It's a good spot to kill some time and enjoy good food and drink.

Amazing changes to the waterfront! I haven’t been for over 5 plus years and this restaurant is an amazing addition next to the Scotiabank centre . Lady seating us was not very friendly but our waitress was amazing! Knowledgeable, friendly and had some nice suggestions . Great to people watch at a window seat, and lot to look at inside . Gluten free beer option and gluten free meal options . Great vibe with variety of people and close to walk everywhere in Scotiabank Centre area! We had amazing Crab Cakes made right, and fresh Mussels.. really nice Draft options also!

Every time I’ve gone to this restaurant I’ve had great service from the greeting staff to the servers. It’s got a welcoming atmosphere and the restaurant itself is nicely laid out and decorated. I went during their Nacho week and their choices were great, from the vegan to the curried option. when trying out their beer, you also have the option of purchasing some to go which is convenient especially after trying their great flavours. Blueberry Ale was great! I highly recommend their Three Cheers Burger with your choice of side, their fries were nicely done. The burger was juicy and flavourful! Great dining experience and highly recommended!

**04/2022 updated** I really love their food as always, but the service was not great sometimes. When we went visit the restaurant, they messed up the number of the flight, so at the end the beer we ordered was not the one we wanted. We didn’t drink the beer (Can be distinguished by color) and just told the server that the beer was not the one we want. At this moment, the server’s expression changed greatly. I don't know the details of their work, but maybe she have to pay for this beer or sth, but it's not our fault. After telling the server to send the wrong beer, she took it back and gave us the beer we had expected, but her service was obviously much colder. Although we gave her more tips at the end, we didn’t have a good experience overall. —— **09/2021 Updated** The servers were way better tonight when I went back. But I still noticed some servers still didn’t wear masks correctly when they talk to the other servers in front of the customers. Other than that everything is great! The food was super tasty. —— Never been to the old location in the waterfront, and it was my first time here in this new location. Me and my bf got pan fried haddock and fried chicken burger ( I got their fries instead of the rice). The food was tasty, we both really enjoyed it. The atmosphere and decor are super nice and warm, also love how their patio looks like (it’s closed now in the fall but every time when I passed through in the summer, it always seems so nice) -1 star for their server, the service went super poorly and slow. The server barely checked our table and everything took forever to arrive. Also I saw one of their servers didn’t wear the mask correctly, when she talked to the other server she took her mask off. I’ll still go back sometimes, their food was super good.

We really enjoyed our meal at the new location. Sat on the patio on a warm evening and it was nice. Very good beer selection including their own and others from PEI which are very good. The blueberry ale is a favourite. Service was excellent. Our server was attentive and did many quality checks. Nachos to start were great. Main meals were very tasty and nicely presented. Inside of restaurant is beautiful. We will be back!

Stopped for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The vibe is kind of like a sports bar. They brew their own beer, which I enjoyed. I had fish tacos which were super well seasoned and very yummy. My wife had a fresh salad that she enjoyed. Overall, very good.

My partner and I went for date night. I got the haddock tacos and my partner got the fried chicken sandwich. The food was incredible the in-home beer and cider was so good! We got to sit by the large window and the atmosphere and view was great. We will definitely be coming back for more meals and have told others how good the food and service is as well

MUST TRY - Went to try something new today with my work crew. We decided to eat out on the patio which was a nice screened in area. Will definitely be back as the food selection was amazing for a quick lunch. I ordered the ring bearer burger which included onion rings and candied bacon and a side of fries. The candied bacon wasn’t as layered on as some places do but you got a good hint of it. The team ordered everything from chicken burger, tacos and fish and chips. Everyone was thoroughly pleased overall. Prices on the high end but you’re getting a dam good feed. Service was a little lacking on the patio as we had to chase them to even get near us at the start for ordering. Some of us that have been here before mentioned the same thing. Otherwise will be back again!

A great atmosphere, the food is pretty good and the service has always been good. The beers they have are great, a great selection, especially the raspberry sour. The menu wasn’t exactly my style of food, but everything was delicious I had, and would definitely be back.

My husband and I went for burger week. The burger was so dry we could not taste the maple bbq sauce and the pulled pork had no flavour and was also dry. It had 3 chips aswel nothing like the picture. Our server never came back to ask how everything was. I also ordered a glass of Rose' and he never asked what size and automatically brought me the large glass and I didnt realize till we got the bill and was charged $16 (crazy) also asked for mayo for the fries and got charged for that too, that our server neglected to say there was a fee. We waited about 40 mins for our food and we were disappointed for our first time there. We live 30 mins away and found no parking so we parked in the casino parking. $6 we dont go downtown often to eat and now we know why.

Anytime I travel I try to find a place that makes you feel welcome like home. I stopped at several places along the harbor front and Gahan's was the best. Very friendly and out going staff. Food is fantastic and reasonably priced. They have their own beer selection and they also have a decent selection of other beers. I was there several days back in July 12 - 15. Can't say enough about the staff Taylor, Matt, Nicole, Maddie, John, Brent, Joel, Taylor and Kyleigh. Sorry if I forgot anyone or got spelling wrong on any names. I will definitely stop back my next time in Halifax.

We dropped in for lunch on a Wednesday. There were tables inside but we wanted an outside table and were given a 15 minute wait time. However by the time we bought a drink from the bar our table was ready. We were served quickly and chose the hamburgers which were bought out pretty quickly. Food was tasty and chips nice and crunchy. The view was lovely. Our waitress looked a bit fed up but she was very professional. I think weekends would be manic but we certainly enjoyed our experience, and had a leisurely second beer without any pressure to vacate our table

Last night was our first visit to Gahan House in Halifax after having a great experience at the one in PEI. The food the 4 of us had was excellent - fish & chips, rib eye steak & mussels.We were with friends from Ontario who we only see a couple of times a year. It would have been nice to be able to sit and chat, but the live music which started at 8 pm was LOUD and jarring and made it impossible to have any conversation. We left immediately after eating as a result. We mentioned the loud music to our waitress (who was lovely and did a super job) a couple of times but nothing was done to diminish the volume which was really, really bad. We would go back for the food, but would ask to sit as far away from any live music as possible.

Have never been here before so thought we would try it through the "Dine Around' experience. i figured they must have put on some favorites. I started with the calamari-way too salty and heavily battered, could hardly taste the calamari. My friend had seafood chowder was good. I had steak sandwich med well came well done and VERy fatty Other was butter chicken which was also good. Mine was so bad I won't be back but my friend says he will so.....

So I have been going to the Gahan House since it opened in Halifax it's my favorite. But on Saturday I took my friend for the first time and we had the burger. The bun was so dry... It was terrible and I raved about this place so much... Neither of us enjoyed it.... I will be hesitant to take new people there now. Hope you can change the burger....

Great atmosphere and good food. Very conscious of food allergies � and the best patio in Halifax! Always enjoy going here.

My friend really enjoyed the salmon dinner. It looked wonderful and had lots of vegetables. I ordered the burrito bowl and was very disappointed. I think someone opened a can of corn, a can of black beans and dumped them in rice, added spice and a some store bought guacamole. The salsa, which never appeared, was probably bottled.

Great fish and chips! Tried two dark beers and thought they were quite good. Wife had a burrito bowl and said she liked it. Service was friendly and atmosphere was enjoyable. Had a good time and would recommend.

Went to the restaurant to celebrate a friends bday. Had a glass of wine and when it came the glass was filthy and asked for a new glass. Server was long to bring a new glass back. Had to ask twice for a glass of water. Ordered a dessert and never got it. The women's bathroom is in need of some repairs. Gouges and holes in the walls, chipped paint. Frames of the mirrors made of MDF and all water damaged and peeling. Management really should pay attention to those little things as they do leave an sour impression. Service was very slow. Friend and guests seemed to enjoy their food but I won't be going back. Also, reservations were made to have a longer table with a water view and they assured we would have it then we got there and it was given to another group. Too bad because I enjoyed my experience last summer there.

What a great place to go! Fresh delicious oysters, great staff and food. Lots of people so it might be slow to wait but it's so worth it!

The service was very poor. My daughters drink had no ice cubes. Did not get utensils until the waitress dropped my steak knife and when she brought back a new steak knife she just placed the forks on the table and never gave them out. The kids hamburger was just that a bun with a burger. No lettuce, tomato, mustard, relish. My steak bun was hard and the broccoli salad was very bland, not much dressing. Spoke with a co- worker who was there with 4 other guys from work and he said the same thing, he will never go back.
