We went here for breakfast every morning of our honeymoon! The croissants with the egg and bacon were our favourite!! And the coffee was the best coffee we have had! We can't wait to visit again!
We stopped in for breakfast and a coffee. This bakery is so inviting from the amazing staff, to the atmosphere and especially the pastries! I had the best and biggest cinnamon roll hands down and I am not ashamed to say I ate the whole thing! The coffee was so good and it was exactly what a great cup of coffee should be. We left with some goodies to take back to Saint John with us.
Do yourself a favour and stop in here to pick up some amazing pastries from Laura and her amazing crew.....you will not be disappointed!
Best cup of coffee I ever had, desserts were to die for and the breads are out of this world. Loved the atmosphere and the friendly staff. Just spent three days in Halifax visiting my daughter and we went everyday. Can't wait to go back
Really nice place, excellent ambience, friendly staff. My only complaint is that at around 9:30am on a weekday there were only three types of bakery goods on the shelves, though all looked yummy, and fresh. Perhaps because they only sell freshly baked bakery goods is why the selection was limited. Nevertheless, the selection still served me well. Excellent, I recommend this place to anyone visiting Halifax!
The difficulty of choosing what to eat whenever I visit the cafe, so many sweet & savoury options! Lattes are great, service has always been friendly! It is great that the cafe is accessible with a stroller and there is room for it unlike in many other cafes. Don't be fooled by the limited seating downstairs, there is more upstairs!
Have yourself a pourover and buy a baguette when you leave, pretty place and friendly staff
I absolutely love The Old Apothecary.
The espresso made drinks are well crafted and the desserts are tasty without being too sweet. Not to mention the interior is a fascinating mix of old furniture with a pop twist that makes for a comfy and welcoming space.
Personal favourites include cortados, strawberry shortcakes, apple donuts, pumpkin chai lattes, and chocolate almond croissants.
They are my go to place for catering orders and worked with my husband and I to create a beautifully unique wedding cake. On top of that they assembled fifty strawberry shortcakes, on site, that had my guests asking for more. My cousin even admitted to having three.
We also hosted our engagement party there and are already planning our Christmas party as we speak.
Needless to say I am an enormous fan who is counting down the days till apple donuts are back.
best spot for espresso in all of halifax, also the best homemade treats ever. my favourite spot in the whole city.
Excellent! Got to try the ham quiche and their espresso! I honestly had never been a huge fan of quiche in the past but this one looked so different (and actually delicious) that I had to try it! And it was absolutely divine! ;) Would love to have that recipe!
Beautiful place and can't wait to go back!
A friend got us your chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. It was too die for! Best chocolate cake I've ever had. It was so huge we had leftovers, but they didn't last long at work!
Their sourdough makes life worth living. Excellent all around!
I have tried a few things and the focaccia and salted caramel brownies are the best I have eaten. A great bakery that should be on your list to visit weekly!!
I have tried their almond chocolate croissant. And it was AMAZING!
It had chocolate ribbon folded inside, with a chocolate drizzle on top with almond slice. I usually like simple almond cream croissant but this one was very delicious.
It was very very buttery, you can tell by smell, flavor, everything was so rich. It was not too sweet, goes so good with coffee.
They also have interesting coffee menu. Pot over was made in front of you, in beautiful equipments. The coffee price was very reasonable, I’d love to visit more and more!
I have been back to this place twice. The deserts are amazing of course as I got to try something else again. This time I tried their coffee and it was so good, nothing was added expect for milk and it was one of the best coffee's. Will be back for sure!!!!!!!!
The baking here is amazing. We had sandwiches for lunch on their fresh baked bread. The Bree and poached onion and roast beef were awesome! The coffee was ok, my cappuccino foam was suboptimal but the espresso flavour was good. Our pastries were phenomenal, best dessert of our visit to Halifax!
I mean look at the size of that spinach and feta danish. The egg tart had just the right amount of Mornay sauce. And a quality cup of coffee . Watching them load the bread in around 9 was just perfect.
Visited their new location in Brewery Market recently. The decor was funky and relaxed and although the selection was small, the pastries were unbelievable! Service was friendly too. Looking forward to going again soon.
As I walked to work everyday, I slowly watched as this place became an empty husk of a venue to the brilliant bakery it is today. I've never had a dessert there I didn't like (even some that I was reluctant to try). The staff was always friendly. Their burger week special was an excellent out-of-the-box idea and was worth its price.
Pleasant service. Amazing baked goods. Would recommend the donuts if you want to try something unique and amazing. They also sell travel mugs, ceramic coffee filters, and locally made tea and coffee.
Can occasionally get crowded by popular demand. But that is no fault of the store, other than being so good.
While set in a dated decor, the old apothecary offers an amazing Cinnamon Bun. A bit undercooked for my taste but still very much decadent. Perfect to finish your week with your favorite cup of coffee
First saw this bakery on the Food network show; Baking Sisters (I think it's called). So while in Halifax, I had to check it out.
The aroma of their bread is intoxicating! If it wasn't for us staying in a hotel (and doing no meals in room) I would have tried their breads. It was hard not to buy!
We were too late for croissants or cinnamon buns. I'm betting they sell out fast.
But the lemon tart we had was wonderful! Also, (not pictured) we tried a mini orange cake with mascarpone icing, which was also yummy.
My next visit to Halifax, will include another stop here. And next time I'm coming for bread!
Lovely Cafe with a variety of dirnk and bakery options. I tried the vanilla latte and was perfect. Their bakeries were delicious too. I loved the atmosphere of the place.
An awesome bakery with good variety of coffee and drinks. Love their fancy pour over style of coffee making. Their salted caramel Brownie is to die for. A definite recommend to visit. Has a good feel and vibe to the place.
Great atmosphere (loved the bathtub bench seat) and a giant croissant!
Tasty awesome breads & pastries. If you are downtown Halifax. Check this place out!
Great local place. I like the uniqueness of the seating area facing the bakery kitchen itself. I could have been mesmerized for hours. The espresso drink was good; I didn't have any drip coffee. I'll note I ordered a single espresso shot, but since the spout was a dual spout, they simply let half the espresso fall into the drain. Seems wasteful, and was painful to watch!
Baked goods were quite delicious. Five stars for ambiance and local flair. Four stars to the food and drink.
Amazingly buttery and flaky pastries. Also great selection of coffees. Loved it! Will be back for sure!!
Hands down the best cafe in town. The upstairs seating area is so colorful and inviting, the baked goods are out of this world delicious and the coffee is fantastic. The staff treat you like family and are very prompt and courteous. I bought gift cards from here as stocking stuffers for my family and friends last Christmas and now they also have become regulars! You will not be disappointed!
Cozy little nook we discovered when looking for a place to grab a coffee to go. Looking forward to going back for a sit down cuppa and snack.
Easily the best baked goods in town by far. The coffee is great, the staff are super friendly and the owners work their tails off to ensure that everything runs smoothly. The Old Apothecary has become a cornerstone of the community, and they're doing it all for the right reasons. Kudos!
Amazing.
The baked goods in this cafe are out of this world. And the handcrafted single pour-over coffees are beautifully done, full bodied, fresh and rich. I wish I lived closer and was in this area more often as it shot straight to the top of Best Coffees in Halifax for me. I always make a point of going there when I'm anywhere near the area and dropping by Argyle Fine Art. Just check it out and don't deny yourself that insane looking eclair. It's even better than it looks!
Quirky seating upstairs can be easy to miss. And worth taking a few minutes to head on up and enjoy the pastries made on site with your coffee. Top notch.
