My wife and I held our wedding & reception at the Wooden Monkey Dartmouth in August and the service by Matt and his staff was excellent. It was a cloudy day and we weren't sure if we could have our ceremony outside but the staff were prepared to have it inside as well. When it started to rain about 30 minutes before our ceremony, the staff quickly moved everything inside and we walked down the aisle in a private room. All of our guests enjoyed both the intimate setting of the restaurant but all raved about the food as well. Matt was very helpful with the planning and we felt that with his experience, it took a lot of stress off of us.
Since we live in Dartmouth, we wanted somewhere close who also uses local food sources as well. The view of the Halifax waterfront is also a nice bonus! We would highly recommend The Wooden Monkey Dartmouth to anyone looking for a relaxed and intimate setting for their wedding and reception.

I tried the Cajun haddock with mashed potatoes, and it was the best lunch I've had all year. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I'll mark this place down as a must for all future Halifax visits.
Awesome! The pizza is delicious and the raw tacos are my favorite appy. It's nice to be able to eat out and enjoy a meal dairy free, no hassle or extra effort. The menu is so inclusive of special diets. I've been with both my family and large functions. It's a great venue. The best view at any restaurant in Dartmouth!
I love restaurants that focus on local foods and community. The atmosphere inside was really warm and welcoming, perfect for chatting with friends. The food portions are perfectly sized, didn't feel hungry but wasn't overstuffed. I really liked the vegetarian special, which was a curry. The blueberry pie dessert was my favourite dish!
I was recommended to try your restaurant by a fellow co-worker, and you did not disappoint! The food was amazing, and your story and beliefs of supporting local growers could not ring more true. You are truly living by your beliefs. I strongly recommend the bacon wrapped scallops and the Salmon dinner! I will be back and recommend you restaurant to anyone visiting Halifax!
Absolutely delicious food. We had the bacon wrapped scallops, bruschetta bread. Followed by the chicken club and lamb ravioli. The service was exceptional even though the place was busy as could be. Both front of the house and back of the house staff rocked it. They absolutely worked together as a team and killed it! Love how its all locally sourced food and many different dietary options for various types of food issues.
We had a very pleasant time here. I had the bacon cheeseburger (didn’t take a photo) and my mom had the haddock. We both loved the food. I could taste the caramelised onions, smoky bacon, and mushrooms in the burger - such good flavour. The restaurant was so cozy and we had a nice view of the ferry, water and sunset. Although we very much enjoyed our food, we loved how friendly and attentive our server was. She was absolutely fantastic. Thanks so much.
Great spot with good food options. The service was really quick and it was exceptional. I heard that it wasn’t overrated at first but I did not feel that at all. Only thing I would say is that it is a bit on the over priced side but aside from that, it was great. I ordered the scallops with fettuccine and it was real big scallops seared perfectly.
Such a wonderful place and cause to support. I really like their ethos of supporting local farmers. Their vegan options are great - especially the vegan tacos and the tofu chocolate pie! Our server was really friendly and overall was a great vibe.
We had a very nice experience here! The waitress was very accommodating with my order, as I wanted a salad and salmon, and she offered me the combo so I could have both. The salmon was delicious and perfectly cooked. The caser kale salad was tasty and well dressed. Prices were good as well.
Steamed mussels were exactly what you want them to be.
The bacon wrapped scallops we also very good.
They have a good selection of gluten-free option as well.
Why does this have to be in Halifax and I live in the state. Such a great restaurant with a great story and mission. So many beers, so many local options, so many delicious food choices.
Lovely restaurant in downtown Halifax that supports local Nova Scotia farms with an emphasis on sustainability. Plenty of vegan options, which are clearly marked on the menu. The seitan donair is delicious and filling.
I had the Chocolate Tofu pie 13 years ago the first time I came to Halifax and it's still just as amazing as I remembered!!! (Actually I forgot just how good it was!!!) I love that it's gluten and dairy free! It's so good people without intolerances will love it just as much, finally a dessert that doesn't comprise on taste to be DF/GF!!!
This is our favourite restaurant in Halifax! We came here for lunch and dinner, the pizza is the best the family has ever had and they’ve had a lot of pizza… just saying. Drinks are unique and delicious (Curious George for kids).
Very good service with good food. The reason for 4 stars is that it's good food but not great food. We were a large group so we got a chance to try quite a few items. Everything was decent but just lacking that little bit extra to out it over the top. For ex, the scallops in the pasta were a bit over cooked. The pasta itself was a bit underseasoned. There were a good things as well, the brushetta was awesome, the caeser salad was pretty good and the pork loin tacos were good. I think it's safe to say we enjoyed the appies more than the entrées.
My sister and I ate here twice in June 2022. My sister has to avoid gluten, which made this restaurant a treasure. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable and the food was delicious! We had the “fried” fish from the lighter fares menu. It was a huge portion of fish, perfectly cooked and very fresh. The potatoes were yummy and their take on coleslaw was very tasty. We also had the fish cakes which were also very enjoyable and very fresh tasting. It was so good we had nachos at their Dartmouth location another day. I just wish they had Wooden Monkey t-shirts.
I was hungry after work and there were lots of people around because of the NAIG happening. I ate inside but there was a table next to me that was very loud and noisy. There was also a table of kids. I had to wear my earbuds and play music and eat but it still was noisy. The Korean pork tacos were excellent but a little messy. The cocktails I'd had before and were refreshing. Loved the chocolate tofu pie and was pretty full after.
This was a memorable and exceptional dining experience during our stay in Halifax. The food is incredibly delicious and fresh, each dish was presented so appetizingly. I do not have food allergies, but my son does, and he has never been able to eat in a restaurant due to his multiple and severe life threatening allergies, however this restaurant changed all that! The assistant manager Emily went out of her way to accommodate the menu so my son could enjoy many of the meals. She printed out his own personal menu where she circled and highlighted the dishes he could eat, I was so touched by her kindness. Anyone who has severe food restrictions knows that safety is the most important thing, and the servers and chef went above and beyond to make everything safe for him. My family had dinner there every night right up to the last night we departed for Toronto. My son turned sixteen that week, and he told me that this was the best present ever, to feel so included and taken care of, and he loved the food. The servers are so friendly, but most importantly, very educated when it comes to food allergies and restrictions. Their communication skills were excellent when it came to understanding my son's specific dietary needs and relaying this back to the chef. I highly recommend The Wooden Monkey on Grafton Street! You truly are the best!
