Review Durty Nelly's Authentic Irish Pub - Halifax

We went here during a holiday when not a lot of restaurants are open. We had the brunch menu, got the normal continental breakfast plate called Nelly's Breakfast, nothing special. The beef in the stew is soft, i don't like the stew so much. But the chowder was great, it lived up to the hype. Overall, i would say nothing special with the brunch menu, not a lot to choose from as well. The cocktails were great though! Prices are average in the area. Will be back, for sure!

Love the atmosphere of this place. Went for a quick supper before a concert. The service is fast and friendly and although my friends' beer on tap arrived flat our server did replace it which was great. We ordered the Bangers & Mash and the Fish Burger The food was tasty although I wasn't expecting basically fish and chips on a bun.

Best bar restaurant in Halifax. There seafood chowder is the best main reason why they give u a fresh tasty bread with it. Great place to speak to the ladies of Halifax to.

Not the best presentation or value for money. The food was just thrown on the plate and the portions were small for the price (I had fish and chips). There was plenty of room to plate things more nicely. The flavour was nice and it was cooked well, just not much value for your money. The atmosphere was great and staff friendly which boosted my ranking from a 3 to 4.

The food was great atmosphere great. The only reason I rated the service a 3 is because I did try to make reservations and was told they couldn't do because of a convention in town. I advised the gentleman thats fine. As I'm waiting for a table a group off 7 come in and get seated. Asked the girl how is that possible she said they all worked at the pub I called her put out on it. You could clearly see that one person of the group of seven was a freind off one of the servers.

My friend and I went on a Sunday during happy hour, so the service wasn't the most speedy but it was still completely satisfactory. The food was delicious and felt like a perfect home cooked pub meal. Many peopel were watching the rugby game, and there were musicians sitting a few tables away from us who were playing their instruments around their table of drinks - fantastic atmosphere!

My wife and I primarily came for cocktails. We did try the sticky toffee pudding. That was excellent, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Our primary server was bartender Derek. It was our understanding that he has 30+ years in bartender experience, and it definitely showed. I threw about 8 different cocktails at him to make while there, and every single one came fast and was made perfectly. I personally respect someone with refined mixology skills, and Derek is now in my top three most skilled bartenders I've had to serve me around the world. This bar has a very valuable person on board, and I hope they realize it. We will definitely be back to this establishment for cocktails and live music. Atmosphere: We sat here for a few hours and were able to get a grasp on how the bar is. My opinion is that between 4 and 7, it's quite quiet. 7-10 casual drinkers and middle age crowd is there. 10pm to close is a younger and louder crowd. Enjoy.

Other than the music being a bit too loud, a good lively atmosphere on a Sunday night. The food was standard pub fare - tasty and fresh.

Shanna was absolutely stellar. Her knowledge and warm service made our night. My family came in and got some wonderful generous portions of food. We had cocktails, wine, apps, and mains. Everything was prompt and tasty. My mother and I both have severe allergies and the server knew everything that we were able to have and not have. Can't wait to be back. Apologies for the less than perfect photo of my meal, I dug in straight away!

This is a bar where a lot of people come. Security guards (?) control people's entry at the door. As expected, it's a little noisy because it's a bar. The number of server seems to be very small compared to the number of guests who entered. I have to sit at the table and wait for more than 10 minutes to order. I just had to wait because the server didn't look at me when I passed by. The food tasted good. I like nacho chip, this place is delicious. But you have to eat quickly. If the cheese on the nacho hardens, it doesn't taste good. You should eat the cheese quickly before it hardens.😆

My 1st trip to Halifax. After completing our appointment, we decided on lunch and not at the regular fast food places....an Irish pub was the decision. After all, we were celebrating a successful appointment. Checked out on GPS the best and closest place to go. So, off to Durty Nelly's Irish Pub; my daughter, young grandson, and I. Our server #344 prioncious greeted us with a warm smile and a welcome to NS. (Loved the accent) He asked if we wanted to see a child's menu. We answered, "Thank you, but it is not necessary. My grandson eats like an adult." He had the Nelly BLT with side Caesar salad. Minus the cheese. (There was no issue from the kitchen to accomodate that request) There are a couple of TV screens to watch sports, but not so loud that we can't hear ourselves chatting. Not a long wait for food, and once it did arrive, attention was made to see if we needed anything else. I had the chicken wings with BBQ sauce and side of fries. My daughter, the butter chicken curry. (She asked for chili peppers as it was not spicy enough) He also came back to check if we were enjoying the food and if everything was OK. The experience was so pleasing that when it came time to pay the bill, he deserved a 20% tip. Next time we are in Halifax, we will definitely stop in and try something else.

Inconsistent and slow service but the atmosphere and their award winning chowder made up for it. It's one of the best chowder I've had.

This place is great. Pub food but super good. The staff is so friendly. The atmosphere is lively and happy. Highly recommend! Also, the fish piece in the fish sandwich is HUGE! Could totally share it!

Best meal I had in Halifax while on vacation. I had the Gnocchi, which had peas, mushrooms, and leeks. It was a great vegetarian options, much better than most places have.

Irish pub in downtown Halifax. Had live music, great chowder and was packed to the brim with people but service was spot on regardless! Would recommend.

Stopped by for lunch after a self guided walking tour of Halifax. Donnie and Rachel took care of us. They were great! Service was top notch. Both of them made us feel right at home. I loved their style of fish and chips. The fish was cooked to perfection and the chips were delicious! Loved their selection of local brews. The Toller was my favorite but they were all excellent.
