Review The Five Fishermen Restaurant - Halifax

Had to visit this restaurant as they had Oysters Rockefeller on the menu - and it did not disappoint. The scallops were delicious as well, but the beef cheeks were nothing to write home about. The service was fantastic and the candles on the dessert for a birthday were a nice gesture. It was an aesthetically pleasing interior and the atmosphere was great.

Phenomenal food, phenomenal service. We had the rack of lamb and the salmon, both were absolutely delicious. We were blown away. Seriously, the staff/servers go above and beyond. They’re so charming I’m wondering if they get some kind of special training. We had a great night and we look forward to coming again!

First visit here (from Ontario)… our experience this evening was amazing! Our server Andrea was outstanding (and she’s actually the Head Bartender subbing for someone who is off sick). All staff were friendly and accommodating! Crab cakes were great & oysters Rockefeller were incredible. Sirloin perfect and lobster dinner superb. I’ve never had a better restaurant experience… anywhere🤷🏻‍♂️ Look up customer service in the dictionary and there’s a pic of Five Fishermen🥂Expensive & worth it🖖

Great atmosphere, it’s a very nice and big restaurant. The food was not bad, but also not beyond my expectation as I heard really good things about it. Ordered fish fish experience, but they forgot to put lobster tail on it. Good thing we noticed it and the server got it for us. Lobster tail was good though. Salmon in it was super thin, couldn’t really tell it’s salmon. However my favourite was mushroom risotto. Service was good, food not bad, atmosphere is good too. Just not a five star for my experience there.

Famous landmark restaurant in Halifax with a haunting story to boot. Lovely ambience, attentive waitstaff. We ordered the Five Fishermen Experience. Everything was fresh and spot on other than the lobster tail which was overcooked and we weren't able to get it out of the shell. The mushroom risotto was earthy and delicious.

Great establishment! The servers were wonderful and nice. The owner coming by and checking on us was a wonderful touch. The food was great! Highly recommend the Five Fish Experience. Well worth the price.

This was our second dinner restaurant experience after McKelvie's. The restaurant is lavish and dare I say swanky. My party were seated in a private kind of room. The restaurant was highly recommended by the staff at our hotel The Muir. Here we ordered the local oysters, seafood chowder, Nova Scotian crab cakes, The Five Fish Experience, Mussels Mariniere, The lobster dinner and the Shrimp & Sausage Tagliatelle. All the dishes were tasty, fresh and delightful. All except the seafood chowder. While the taste was good, the temperature was on the cool side. So it was a bit off putting. The service was friendly and efficient all around.

Carly is one of the best waiter I had in a long time. I have a bachelor degree in Hospitality and restauration management and used to be a restaurant director in Montreal. You are absolutely lucky to have her. She is professional, simple, she seems to really enjoy giving suggestions. She propose us exactly what we were hoping for. Every step of her service was flawless. Thank you for the great night. We will come back for sure if we get the chance to. Delicious food, thanks to the cook too!

Great beautiful modern lounge style dining experience. Food was amazing. We had a delicious lightly dressed ceasar salad with pumpernickel croutons. Our mains were a big bowl of mussels cooked it what tasted like a lightly sweet and savory french onion soup that paired well with the sour dough toasted bread wedges for dipping. The other mains were the five fishermen experience had a very savory mushroom based mushroom risotto, and the scallop grenoblise had very plump, juicy tender scallops. Our server was amazing, Laura. She was very accommodating, suggesting slight variations to the dishes to suit our taste, was also very friendly, attentive and had great attention to detail. Definitely one of the best seafood places in Halifax, definitely worth the extra money!

I went with a group of folks. The seafood dish was excellent, they even made a separate risotto for me just in case it came it contact with allergens. Was great meal and service. Beverages were on point. Was a tad expensive but it's nice to treat one's self from time to time.

arrived in nova scotia and dined at the five fisherman a year ago today. parking was difficult, but everything else was top notch. i still crave the dish i had and it was hands down one of the best entrees i have ever had. the lobster linguine was not a particularly large portion but the flavors were insane and i will never forget the way the lobster melted in my mouth like butter. being from los angeles, i had never had lobster of such quality and never cared much for the flavor until i tried this dish. i loved everything about this restaurant, we had a lovely waiter and it was an elegant setting,

I took the Ceviche of the day for appetizer, didn’t even finish my plate. Shouldn’t be on the menu. Main course i took the the USA prime steak, I would guess they cook it in the oven because it didn’t had the crispy grill I was expecting for my steak. The dessert looked good on paper but was way to sugarish, no balance in it. My glass of red wine was warm, not chill like it’s supposed to be in my opinion in this type of restaurant. Server didn’t bring glass of water until I asked, not a big deal but that should be the first thing a server brings after asking if you wanted to start with a drink. The place is super nice, great decor and ambiance but was désappointed of my experience at Five Fishermen.

Update: Originally I rated this a 3 due to a less than stellar NYE experience; however, I’m revising to a 5 based on our experience last night. Tyler was an amazing waiter, very attentive, friendly and genuine. The food was amazing. I think our NYE dinner was a one-off bad experience, as last nights dinner was exactly as we expected for the Five Fishermen. Thanks again for a great night!! *********************************************** My boyfriend and I had reservations for NYE. We arrived at 6:30 so it was not as busy as I have seen it on previous visits; however, the quality of service was not what we have come to expect at the Five Fishermen. There were little lapses in service that you expect - for example, having to repeatedly ask for water, pouring our own wine - not big things, but the little attention to detail that you expect at the FF, especially when paying $32 and $44 for entrees, and well over $200 for the total meal. The biggest issue is that our entrees were warm at best, and by halfway through were downright cold. Our waiter didn’t appear until we were almost done, and at that point I did indicate the meal wasn’t hot enough...to which I was offered an additional serving of ratatouille, but I declined. Previous experiences at this restaurant were all positive and I wouldn’t have hesitated to give a rating of 5, but the staff didn’t seem to be on the ball on NYE and we were very let down.

Those lobsters must have delusions of grandeur. They were the smallest lobster we've seen so far in Nova Scotia. After dinner and dessert we were still hungry. Not a good deal for the price. Maybe other dishes were better. The place was highly recommended by someone who knew it years ago. We found it to be noisy with inappropriate music for a fine dining experience. Apparently the upstairs had been renovated. Obviously to cram in as many small tables as possible. In the central portion there are so many pillars and the aisles are so narrow between rows of tables that servers have to ask the patrons to pull in their chairs just so they can get by. Fine dining this ain't.

I was blown away by the amazing service today at this restaurant. We had a lobster Mac and Cheese, and to us it looked and tasted wonderful. However the chef took it upon himself to tell us that it wasn't up to his standards. The restaurant then ended up comping our Mac and Cheese, giving us a new one and to top it all off the Manager apologized for the food and gave us a $25 gift card. These guys really take pride in their food and it showed today. I would recommend this place to anyone that goes to Halifax! It was a great experience and I thank the Manager and staff today at this restaurant.

Overpriced tasteless food. Asked for no onions on the lobster roll, when the dish arrived am guessing a half cup of chopped white onions mixed in with the lobster... ordered another dish (same as my husband had ordered) was delivered sans the garnish, appeared to have been browned (chicken) in a pan then finished in the microwave! Dry and tasteless. No salt/pepper on the table ...food very bland.

One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. The food was amazing, and the service was even better. It was our wedding anniversary so we were given two roses, a card signed by the staff, and two complimentary deserts. A huge thank you to all the staff at The Five Fishermen for the best anniversary ever!

I think too much work was put into presentation vice quality. Dry ice as a centre piece for a plate of oysters is overkill. I also found the portions small. The lobster looked to be smaller than 1.5 lbs to me. Especially when compared to lobsters at other restaurants I have eaten at over the past week.

We came here two nights ago and consumed a delicious dinner. I especially like how they grill the fish and the seafood they present on your plate. Definitely recommended if you're looking to eat in a high-end seafood restaurant in Halifax.

Bread (none) - very poor Drinks - very good Appetizers - very good Mains - average (five fish dish was overcooked. scallops, shrimp, lobster and two types of fish) Dessert - good For the quality of food it is overpriced.

My wife and I dined at the restaurant tonight. We are from western Canada so it was my first time here but she has been here before and really wanted to take me to celebrate our anniversary. Starter of Acadian mussells, five fish and lobster mac and cheese was rounded out with cheesecake for dessert. Food was hot, timed perfectly and service from Lyvia was excellent. Her knowledge of local wines and menu advice was spot on. All of this made for a very nice night to remember. Thank you. I can see why you've been in business a long time.

The Five Fidhetman is a very nice restaurant with a limited menu selection. The service is slow and guests are left awaiting the attention of the server. The prices are inflated for the selection of dishes offered. Would rate it between 3 and 4 on a 5 scale

The five fisherman has been a staple in the Halifax restaurant scene for a long time now, many places have come and gone while this one has remained. In keeping with the times they have renovated their space hitting the nail on the head with a beautiful chic dining area, open spaces, refreshing concept of an open kitchen and gorgeous wood plank bar. This isn't even the best part it is simply the first impression, the mussels are to die for with a rich creamy white wine sauce, I followed with the sea bass which had a peppery skin on a bead of chefs vegetables and creamy whipped potato..and the chai cheesecake with coconut whip cream... Well I've said enough, except I can't go without mentioning the amazing service, truly.. Well done five fish you continue to shine

Pasta was undercooked, which they did make a new one but still under cooked. However, they did comp us. The server came by once to check on us, just felt the customer service was poor.

Excellent service....the waiter Chris was the best....my meal, every bite was better than the last.

Great spot for lunch, we had the fish tacos, roasted root veggies (amazing with a bit of chorizo sausage) and tuna poke. Everything was deelish, restaurant was beautifully renovated, comfortable seats and booths, stone walls, very clean. Alex was our server and was very pleasant. Perfect spot to meet friends for lunch downtown. We will be back.

This was my first time back in 30 years. I have had steak at many fine steakhouses around the world and none were as good as the steak I had at Five Fishermen a couple weeks ago. The food was fantastic, the service was fantastic, and I will be back.

The service was top notch the food was amazing. The best seafood ever

I loved the food it was very yummy. Service was great, even got my special request for a birthday candle on the desert for a friend that I mentioned on the reservation. We will be back for more :)

Our server Luca was amazing, he went above and beyond for our meal (he even gave me a birthday card!) We will definitely be back!

I tell you this place was terrific! Great food...stunning ambience and sound system but still working on the kinks on the servers but that's ok. They tried hard and that's all that matters...show me effort!

A must for Seafood Lovers! I was here 25 years ago and pledged to come back if I was ever in Halifax again. I was certainly not disappointed. Best seafood I have had in a long time.

I was there tonight with my sister. I had a slight issue with my meal - they went above and beyond to turn my first dining experience with them into an enjoyable evening. We were given champagne as well as a few different desserts to enjoy. Then the manager comes over with an envelope and it contained a gc for a future visit!

The food and ambiance were superb. Best steak we've ever eaten! Impeccable service by Tyler. We'll be back the next time we're in Halifax!

Wonderful atmosphere. Service couldn't have been better. And last but not least, the dinner was terrific. Seafoods, steak for me, veggies, appetizers are so good. Mitch's co-workers made it a great experience. Thank you Lyvia and Christian.

Best seafood in the world and I'm from Florida!! Lobster and scallops were amazing and the most tender swordfish I've ever eaten. I just wish I had seen some ghosts.

Great service! Amazing food! Our server Ben was the BEST! He made our anniversary dinner extra special! Top notch! Big thanks!

We were at Five Fisherman tonight celebrating our anniversary. Without a reservation, we were seated at the bar. We were not sure about this but the comfortable seats and pillars providing our own seating area - it was great! Our choices for dinner were delicious! (Would order again) We shared a yummy s'mores desert. Shout out to bartenders Chris and Phil who added to our pleasurable evening - Thanks for the extra touches!

Our server Celine was amazing, the food was delicious and the decor, look and feel upstairs was perfect! Again, shout out to Celine as she completed our experience.
