Review Troquet - Gatineau

Mathieu Berthiaume
Good burgers, great fries, and great staff. Was there for lunch and will go back. They also have a decent beer selection.
Adam Rogers
Delicious poutine and a wide selection of good beers. Add to that excellent service from a gorgeous waitress and this may be the best place to hang and eat in Gatineau.

July 2022 update. Considering it’s prime location, it’s a 3.5- 4 star. ( factors evaluated are ambiance , service, food quality and location) Location - 5*. Does not get any better than this resto/ cafe offering front outdoor terrace for people watching, garden Terrance for intimate dining or coffee and indoor restaurant space for hip and casual ambiance. Ambiance - 4.5*. its casual and relaxed. Mix matched furniture offering shabby chic interior which is Always laid back and comfortable each time I come here. They don’t rush you and let you pick what’s most convenient for you as long as there is room. Most menu and drink items are written on the wall. ( price is only written on the menu tho ✌️). Could use more air indoor in the summer time when it gets stuffy. Service - 4*. Bilingual service as usual. perhaps staff shortage or new staff training. It took a long time to order, get drink and food. Whilst asking for service, there was a long delay and the restaurant was less than a 1/3 filled at 6 pm. Food quality: 3.5*. Most popular item on menu seem to be burger. Fries are traditional French Canadian style…. Skin on, juicy and sweet. QC style …..😘Plates are stacked with a good portion of fries. However, for $19-$23 / plate; I expected a more succulent burger both in taste and size. Final critic is actually the Apéro platter. At best, one can call it a small ( piccolo) appetizer plate. 4 pieces of bread rusks ($2 extra charge for more). , with 3 slices of Brie, some goat cheese etc….. mixed with pickled 1/2 egg and olives…… for $24. Pretty disappointed. But I guess this is new post covid dining to its best. Last but not least: a pint is 20 oz in UK and 16 oz in America. their pint drink does not seem like a 16 onze ( American pint ) but rather 12 onze ……. But what do I know. It just seems much less than usual. Et voilà. 4* is my average best final score. My review for Le troquet.

Cute pub style place, typical pub food with normal portions not the usual huge portions we always regret..lol gluten free options except buns for burgers.. but pretty tasty burger none the less. Would be a nice place to have live tunes

Looking for a good time in this artist inspired bar, this is the place to go. For comedy, jazz, poetry, great food and awesome service. You'll feel elsewhere and forget that you're downtown Hull for a night. Great place to bring a date. ;)

Very creative promotions and events occur often here, so check their Facebook. Really enjoyed my visit as well as the fare. It's a fairly simple menu and the prices on alcohol are very, very low.

Excellent Italian pizza with lots of interesting choices. Wide selection of wines and a few beers on tap. Service was great and sitting on the patio was relaxing, excellent that it's on a walking street for the low noise. Though it wasn't officially on the menu, their barrista pulled off a decent caffe machiato, which is hard to get in North America.

Great food, even better service, And drinks are fairly priced.

Food menu is small, but the food was well presented and tasty. Good selection of beverages, service was above-average friendly and attentive.

Excellent venue. Loved the large open windows, and patio option. Wonderful vivacious section of old Hull. Prices a tad high, but that could just be our expensive times...

Excellent food, friendly service and reasonably priced meal. All in all, I would recommend this restaurant for someone looking for a good meal in a nice neighbourhood in Hull, Quebec.

Over the last 15 years, I surely can't say that I've had a bad meal or bad experience at this place. The food is always fantastic, the beer selection is on point, coffee is so aromatic and tasty, and the people are just tops! You can't go wrong with a stop at this place.

Me and some of my friends went there on Canada day. The restaurant was at near capacity, but had a few spots left. We placed an order, and an hour and 20 minutes later, we still hadn't received anything. Each time we would ask about when our plate was coming up, the waitress would say that it would be ready in 5 minutes. After 30 minutes of asking this question and getting the same answer, me and many of the other clients in the restaurant understood that the staff didn't care about the service and was straight up lying to us. While I was not expecting to be served immediately due to the fact that the place was busy, I had better expectations. At least the staff could be honest about the situation instead of hiding behind the counter and waiting for the customers to come up to them. Some of the staff was drinking on the job too... maybe this has something to do with the poor service. I ended up having to cancel my order (as many other customers did) because quite frankly, I lost faith in the staff's ability to get something out of that kitchen. It shouldn't take that long to prepare pasta, it's not rocket science.

Nice place - good beer on tap, friendly, no intrusive TV, radio or loud music. Great spot for a pint and a chat.

Super service, serveuse souriante !!

Came here for drinks for a friend's birthday. Since I do not speak french, I found the fact that the server made 0 attempt to even try to understand me in English a little rude, as well as the menu not having any English translations. I also found the server didn't check in very often to see about drink refills.

I ended up ordering their nachos with chicken, which were tostitos scoops with a good amount of choose, and a bit of onion and green peppers, and chicken. There was a good amount of sour cream on the side, but I found there to be about 1/3rd of the salsa that should have been included.

I did have their Sangria, which was reasonably priced and pretty tasty, so I have to give it points for that. But overall I wasn't terribly impressed.

I came here with a large group of coworkers for lunch. I had the shrimp salad. It was ok, the dressing was nothing special. The bread was average.

Good lunch. I've only been there at lunch time and I was happy, it wasn't too expensive and they have a great selection of beers. If they have the same menu for dinner then you may find it disappointing.

Perfect if you work in the area but nothing exceptional if you're not around.

Went to let troquet for dessert and coffee because my fiancé remembered this place as a café. Much more of a bar than café these days. Specialty coffees were very good (we had Irish coffee and Calypso coffee) with lots of other options on the menu. Limited dessert selection though.

Great place. I've been going to le troquet on the regular for years now, They have an excellent selection of beer on tap ( including Mystique, a Quebec apple cider they have on tap. They also have their own house beer, troquet which is a bargain for $16 a pitcher, but has that unfortunate microbrew flavour)

Their open concept kitchen is very clean, probably beacause they dont have a fryer or grill, Which limits their menu, but is probably for the best, you can only eat so many chicken wings. My favorites are the bruschetta and the french onion soup. My only complaint is that they only have a white (seems like mozzarella) cheese that comes on everything, and while it may be good on the french onion soup it really bland and flavourless on nachos. A mixed cheddar would probably be more flavourful.

- they also have a red wine on tap they use for sangria
- Le troquet literally translates to "The bar" in english
-They often host cool events, the concert and dj nights are fun, just make sure not to get stuck at troquet on a french poetry or art night, super boring.
-They also do great espresso and do a brisk take out business for those seeking a late lunch.
-In the summer they have an awesome back patio that can probably hold up to 50 and a front patio that can probably hold 20 seats or so.

definetly a place to be checked out, a hidden gem.

Do Not Go Places. Food is definitely so-so, hate this area also. Hit the Market instead.
