I ordered a medium rare with beef balls and the meat was delicious, especially the beef balls. The broth was good too but it was lacking a bit of flavor which they compensated by adding more salt. The noodles were a bit mediocre and even my friend who is a fan of pho agreed. 0.5/1
Service was fine. My order was messed up but not a huge deal. 1/1
Price was good. However, based on a review I read recently, I went in assuming they would charge more than the price that was indicated on the menu. And yes, they actually sneaked in like 40 cents. Obviously, not a huge deal which is why I did not bother to question them. 0.5/1
The interior was nice. Simple and had Vietnamese music playing in the background. 1/1
Would I come back? Probably... 0.5/1
Gotta order the right stuff - highly recommend. First thing I did when I walked in was ask for recommendations. This is what I got and thus we ordered them all. The joy of eating with big group that is also family.
Bot Chien - fried rice flour cakes with egg - The portions are smaller now, but it still good. Have to say that ones from Thai Binh were better, but Thai Binh is no longer open.
Com Suon - pork chop and rice - Very tasty. Would definitely recommend trying this. The texture of the rice was disappointing though. I hope that is just a one-time thing.
Banh Canh Heo - thick tapioca flour noodles with Pork - Delicious broth and the texture of the noodles were really good. the deep fried onions really make the soup tasty.
Bun Mang Goi Vit - duck salad and soup with vermicelli noodles - The duck salad was really delicious and refreshing. The soup and noodles were a little disappointing.
Bun Bo Hue - Central Vietnamese noodle, spicy - it was mediocre - there are better places in Edmonton for this dish.
The Bot Chien is worth the visit on it's own! Service was amazing and very accommodating, with the restaurant closing at 9pm and us being not from the city we strolled in at 8:50 pm and they still stayed in to cook and serve us after hours- the food was real good. Bot Chien (deep fried rice flour taters) were tasty and crisp and the Banh Canh (starch noodle soup) was full off flavour. Nice hardwood floors and leather high seat-backs makes this place a definite hidden gem in Edmonton.
Good Vietnamese restaurant downtown. Great food... good service for an asian restaurant. You should try the fried squares rice cake with eggs.
Price was great. Cudnt find anywhere cheaper than them. Food was fine, I had more expectation on the soup tho, but maybe because they want to be healthy so the soup tasted less strong. Overall I was impressed and would go back and try something else!
This place is good. You can get a bowl of Phone & an order of spring roll for about $10. Broth in there soup is good. Service is ok but really friendly.
