I usually goto garden bakery for my team cakes but they really don't have the size I need. It's either too small 12x18 or too big 18x24 (way too much leftovers)

So I tried another place )which I will leave nameless with a cake) that suited my needs 17x17 after 30mins of the baker reassuring me he would get the color bang on (easy part he said) and the drawing (a lot harder he said). I paid in full ($100) and returned to get the cake a 5 days later and the the logo was brown vs the grey(I left them a pic of the logo). I really didn't want to take possession of the cake but I already paid on full. No compensation nothing. So I vowed never to return or recommend anyone on going to there.
Note - if anyone wants to see a pic of the logo and cake. Please reply. I showed a pic of the cake and logo to my friends and all of them laughing.

Fast forward 4 months later for my teams year end wrap up party. I thought why not go to HK bakery. I have been in numerous times a year thru out my life. They too had the size I needed 17x17 ($100 fruit middle cake). I spoke with the baker about the color. He said it won't be an exact match but he would do the best he could. I was hesitant but he made a sample of the color and showed me. It was grey! And not brown so I paid in full and would come back 5 days later at 11am to pick it up

5 days later, I arrived at 10:50am. The cake wasn't quite ready and they told me another 15min. So I patiently sat down and watched ppl come and go and had a really good look around at the pastries. There was a steady stream of customers coming and buying stuff. I counted the 2 trays of egg tarts. Looked to hold 80 in total and approx 40 had been sold. The goods smelled great.

At 11:05am. A worker called me over and showed me the cake. Boom!!!! I was super impressed how it turned out. Way better than I imagined.

At the team wrap up party. When the cake was unboxed. Quickly parents phones came out to take pics of it. (I get that response from garden bakery but didn't get that from the "nameless" place)

Cake was super good as expected. Had some leftovers. A few parents took some home with them but I was still left with quite a bit (I'm glad cause I like eating the cake)

All in all. Hong Kong bakery will be my goto spot from now on for team cakes and pastries

My most frequent place to bulk buy chinese doughnut, egg tarts and tapioca puddings. This is the spot I’ll be at during weekend trips to Chinatown. Comparing this to Garden Bakery, this place does egg tarts and brisket noodles so much better- except the rest of their pastries are pretty oily.

I love HK bakery. I could get a lot of buns and other pastries here that you CANNOT get at T&T or other Asian stores. I'd say it's pretty authentic, my parents and friends who used to live in HK say that their buns & pastries are almost as good as the ones back home. Not to mention their buns are much cheaper than T&T! I hear their cakes are good too but I haven't tried them.

Your standard Chinese bakery. The space is small so their offerings are a bit more limited than other bakeries. Some decent offerings, but I would say that Garden Bakery is a bit better.

Cute little bakery in Chinatown. It had all the generic Asian bakery goodies. I had a chestnut mousse dessert as well as a red bean pastry both were decent.

Garden Bakery was always my regular place, but I might switch! Buns are very fluffy and dough is soft and sweet. Egg custard is soft and not rubbery. Go early, because I went at 4 pm and they were out of a few items.

Great breakfast option. When all the main dim sum restaurants in the Kingsway area are packed and you can't wait, the Hong Kong Bakery is a great breakfast option. As a shop selling traditional Chinese pastries like tarts and buns, this bakery has a decent selection that all taste pretty great.

The pineapple bun was crunchy, the coconut bun had a creamy filling, and while not overly stuffed, the pork and chicken buns had nice sweet meats in a sweet bun.

On the way in or out of Edmonton, this bakery is a great place to grab a quick snack.

Baked goodness. A tiny place with a large range of baked goods. Saturday morning is the time to go- a whole wall full of fresh-baked goodies for unbelievably cheap prices. The pineapple buns, custrad buns, Portuguese -style custard/egg tarts, BBQ pork buns, all are highly recommended. Not sure about the pre-packaged stuff though, it can be a bit of hit-and-miss.Who cares about a language barrier, it's a takeout bakery, not a sit-down coffeehouse (you come here for the food, not atmosphere!).

Super impressed with my treats I purchased there this morning. Delicious coconut buns, bbq pork buns and curry beef bun. Fantastic prices and everything was super fresh. Two very kind ladies who served me as well. I’ll definitely be back soon with my $1.50 😆❤️ Thanks again

There's a reason this place has been a beloved standby for so long. The most scrumptious and fresh baked goods. My personal favorites are the BBQ pork buns, egg tarts, and pastries (BBQ pork, winter melon, red bean). They have a large selection so there will be something to suit every palate! Cash only.

I got the assorted box during the Chinatown Dining Week and they are so amazing. It’s worth the hype. I definitely come back for the pork bun, and the cream bun. The macarons are surprisingly good. The matcha one actually tastes like matcha. Only for $10 but I got so many inside the box. Im excited to try the egg tart next time I’m there, and the cakes there as well. Everything is only around $2. They make all of them in the morning for the whole day so make sure to come there as soon as possible to get the one you want before they ran out. The only downside is I have to pay by cash. I don’t know if it’s only for that day or it’s like that. So thats something to keep in mind when visit there

2022 June 3.5★ It's a hit and miss with this place. There are some items very good, some good and others just bad. The place isn't too big, but serves a variety of buns, cakes and other foods. Ordered different buns, the buns were a bit flat. The BBQ pork bun didn't have enough meat. Some of the buns tasted better than others. Had the white sugar cake 白糖糕 it was perfectly sweet, good flavors and springy. This was good. The egg tarts were the best. Lots of egg flavor and the custard was very good. Would recommend this. Not bad, but have had better. Though the egg tarts were amazing. Worth a try.

We stopped in here today looking for mochi. We didnt find any but we found at least 50 items that looked amazing. So we bought some and had a hard time not buying everything. We had bbq pork Buns that had soft fluffy bread. Coconut cream Buns with real cream and super soft bun. Heavenly. I couldnt eat more but im looking forward to the Red bean cake. I love Red bean! Alot of the Desserts have whipped cream and I love that! Come here. It's good.

My recent short trip to Edmonton was very fruitful. I pre-ordered some bakery goods for pick up on that day. Upon arrival all the items are all accounted for & the goodies were delicious as always.

Was surprised by how tasty this Chinese bakery was. Never knew about this bakery until a coworker mentioned their wife cake, and since I was heading to YEG might as well stop in and give them a try. When we walked in the smell of fresh bakery was yum, there was also a decent line up to order so that's always a good sign. We we're definitely pleasantly surprised by how tasty everything was. The buns had a lot of filing and a nice flavor and reheated nicely with a soft center and crispy outside which is awesome because we picked up way to many thing in Edmonton to eat in one day even two day. The wife cake was also really good, not to sweet, not to soft and has a nice chew to it, even my mom said it was really good.

I was a bit taken aback by the $2 per bun as I’ve been spoiled with buns that are at most, $1.50 but I must say, they are worth it! The bread and meat ratio was even and the bread was a bit sweet and soft. There were a lot of varieties to choose from, we walked out with a box of buns, cake and egg tarts. Will definitely come back for more!

Hong Kong Bakery is hands down my favourite HK-style bakery in Edmonton. The price point is honestly great and I've never been disappointed with anything. It's a cute little shop in Edmonton's Chinatown. If I had to pick my favourite item, it would be the [Pork and Shrimp Dumpling - 咸水角] ($1.10). It's a glutinous rice dumpling fried to perfection! It's super chewy and has a delicious filling. I literally think about this in bed. I also recommend the BBQ Pork Bun, Curry Beef Pie and Custard Pineapple Bun.
