The service was very friendly right as I walked in the door.
The sandwiches came with a pickle, and a bag of homemade potato chips. I didn't think the chips were very good, a 4/10, they were cold and not very flavourful. Much would have preferred if the sandwiches had the option to come with a salad or something
The Montreal smoked meat sandwich was an 8/10. The sauerkraut was crunchy and added a great taste, but not overpowering on the sandwich. The mustard was grainy but not too strong. The meat itself was very flavourful and wasn't dry at all.
The Italian sandwich was a 7/10, a little bit greasy but that's expected with the meats used. The jack cheese on it was excellent. The pickled pepper were a nice addition.
The chicken sandwich was like thanksgiving in a bun. The chicken was moist and flavourful on its own. The stuffing and gravy were good, not great though. Overall a 7.5/10.
The chicken noodle soup was average, nothing to write home about.
Overall this is definitely a place I will be back to.
I give S&S a 3.5 based on the fact that the sandwiches are very good, however the prep and handling at this location is beyond poor. Myself and a co worker have been to this location 3 times this year and every time we go we cannot watch our meals get prepared. Last week I ordered the grilled cheese with added bacon and the gentleman wiped the counter of sauce with a dry white rag that hadn't looked very clean, then reached that same hand he used on the cloth to grab my bacon (no gloves). At the end when my co worker and myself were paying we observed the lady take our payments (cash and debit) then reach her hands into the fresh bowl of kettle chips located beside the register and filled the bag. (no gloves again) I will likely go back still because the sandwiches are tasty however I am not impressed with how they cross contaminate.
I went here today because I've heard from my friends about the fantastic sandwiches here! Especially Friday's for the foie gras sandwiches. Today was the chicken and sausage gumbo with foie gras made fresh to order, with homemade kettle chips and a pickle! I had to take this to go, but on my way back to work the smell emanating from the seat beside me drove me to drool the ride back to work! The smell equals the taste and flavor from the sandwich that begs you to keep eating it even if you are full! The chips and pickles are the bomb and I will be going back again!! Thank you for my religious experience with this sandwich!!
Great sandwiches! Had the Montreal smoked meat...not many places do this well in Edmonton, but hat's off to Sandwich & Sons...very fresh ingredients...great bread.
I checked out this place for the first time a fee weeks ago. I was impressed. Went with the Montreal smoked meat sandwich and it delivered on flavour! I ate it a little cold as you need two hands for this one but it was delicious. I'll definitely be back to check out their other menu items.
Heard so much about this place and read some positive reviews so of course I'm gonna go try this place out. I'm glad they are open on a Saturday as most deli sandwich places is closed on weekends. The first thing I wanted to try on their menu is the Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich and I was not dissapointed. It also comes with a side of fried potato chips, which tasted pretty good. In my opinion, I think they should also include poutine to their menu. The amount of meat you get is unbelievable! There is just a lot of meat stacked on the marbled rye bread. The amount of kraut is right on; there is not so much of it to over power the taste of the smoked meat. Overall height of the sandwich is about 3 inches high! Now that's a huge sandwich. I would love to come back and try the other items on the menu.
Heard lotsa good things so went to check Sandwich & Sons out.. apparently they have epic BLT, but skipped it to try a tasty fried sausage like sandwich - fried Bologna and noshed on a huge Smoked Beef Brisket sandwich instead - needed a bit more swiss or sauerkraut (I love loading my ruebens with both), and the brisket could have been smoked a shade longer for more tenderness, but it was a delicious and messy sandwich!
Wish I worked closer as Friday is Fois Gras Friday - a Viet style banh mi sandwich with braised bacon, mortadella, pickled carrots, cilantro and fois gras! Until next time, nomnomnom!
There was quite a buzz that surrounded these guys that made me want to try their version of Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich when I went to Taste of Edmonton last weekend. In my opinion, overall it's a good sandwich. It just wasn't as good as I thought...
Best Montreal smoked meat sandwich I have ever had. Their house mustard is the best! Had the tomato garlic soup too and it was very fresh tasting! We will be back!
Today we headed to Alex Sneazwell's new place Sandwich and Sons for their Foie Gras special available only on Fridays. As we found out, and it appeared from previous bloggers, the Fois Gras special changes every Friday. Alex is working on getting his website up and running and tries to post on Twitter the Friday special but he is very busy with his new business so doesn't always have time. Today he didn't even have time to update the chalk board so Philly got a picture of last week's special mostly rubbed off the board!
