2017-08-17 Had lunch here. Coffee was good, custard doughnut was pretty good too. Custard tarts are great, but the chocolate layered cake is amazing!! It's like a McCains cake, but a 1000 times better!! Guaranteed I will be back and buying a box full! I wish I would have taken a pic.
Delicious sandwich. Can't say the same for the other things.
I've had my eye on this place for months. A few days ago, I decided to stop in instead of passing by and I was not entirely disappointed. The place is clean and tidy. The left side is a restaurant, the right side is a small grocery store. The girl behind the counter was absolutely lovely and patient in helping me pick out what I wanted. In the end I ordered a Portuguese water bun sandwich. This was so tasty and filling. Perfect balance of meat, sauce and veggies. Then I ordered a chicken empanada which was NOT bad. But not great either. Honestly I wouldn't order it again. Then I got the flan which I did not like at all. It tasted weird to me but I can't exactly pinpoint how so.
Overall it was not a bad experience, it's just a matter of knowing what to eat and what not to I guess.
Good but I went there Sunday midafternoon so most of their baked goods were gone but what it did have was very good !service not bad ,cookies that they had had were little bit overdone almost burnt but not quite, there cappuccino since they had didn't have regular coffee at the end she didn't want to make a pot !was very good but a good experience !back there overall very pleased!
Good range of portuguese baked goods and lunch items. Decent food, but the custard tarts are better at the other portuguese bakeries further down 118 Ave. The real reason to go here is the portuguese rotisserie chicken. While living in Little Portugal in Toronto, I developed an addiction to portuguese chicken. Popular's chicken doesn't quite compare, but it's totally decent.
I happened to stop in and get a few loaves of bread(French & med rye) and a mix of pasteries. The service was super friendly and pricing was great! The rye bread was delicious and the French was ok but didn't have the crispy crust I was expecting. The pasteries were incredible! The tarts are a MUST.
I have never tasted such amazing bread in all my travels!
The quality is consistent and the Taste is of the highest quality!
The chicken is so tender and juicy.
The deserts are to die for and the staff are the most friendly!
It is truly the most amazing bakery with an environment and ambience that will keep you coming back!
Service is kinda slow and disorganized, but is fully reflective of the laid back Portuguese culture, so it authentic and forgiveable. The place is foremost a bakery so they don't have wait staff and servers, just order at the counter and this will bring your food.
Room is a long bakery with about a dozen tables and chairs in front of the big street side windows.
Portions are big for the price.
Bifana - Portuguese for awesome pork sandwich. Fresh ciabatta bread, two tender pork cutlets, caramelised onions and cheese. Fantastic!
Pork stew and beans. Bit of pork (meat, feet and ears) slow cooked with red beans and cabbage. I had no idead what I was ordering but was happy to find this amazing rustic meal.
And the egg tarts. They are like little cream brulee in a flaky shell. So good.
Awesome fire roasted chicken. If you ask for it extra spicy it is amazing!
Two of us had the "House Special" signature sandwich - very hearty & tasty!
Great Bakery. The baked goods are fresh, tasty and amazingly affordable! My favourite are the tarts- egg/custard, coconut or orange. They also make one with some kind of beans, sounds gross but actually quite nice. Then there is a special Portuguese water bread with spicy sausage in it- delish (too bad they don't make it more often). Other than the bakery, they also have decent sandwiches and cappuccino. The roast chicken meals are good too- crispy chicken (ask for spicy!), buttery rice flaked with with carrots and a fresh simple salad with tangy dressing! One of the best places on the rapidly improving 118 Ave!!
