Had the most wonderful meal here last week! I have never tasted fish and chips, but was very impressed with the flavour and texture of the food! Upon entering my girlfriend and I were quickly greeted by staff and she recommended us the Haddock, it was magnificent! The batter was extra crunchy, super soft and moist in the inside. I would recommend Brits and Chips to anyone who had never had fish and chips before, or if you are looking for a high caliber restaurant for fish and chips!
I can't say I love the decor, but the fish, chips, and fried oysters are tasty. The batter is not too thick, and everything is super crispy as it should be. I can't eat this every week, but I would definitely visit again.
I go here every once in a while when I want to get my fish and chips fix. I always order the Turbot and chips (I think Brits is the only place in Edmonton I know of that serves Turbot). Definitely better quality and price point than some of the other places in the area. The service is basic but friendly, much like the interior; order at the counter, someone brings you your order after a few minutes. Fish and fries are always hot and fresh and all the condiments you need are on the tables, with as much tartar sauce as you want rather than getting some dinky dipping bowl you have to pay extra for.
Honestly its just as good as any I've had in Britain, its not fancy, but it definitely fulfills my cravings when I get them and I always leave full and happy.
The fish and chips here were excellent, they serve multiple different kinds of fish, and appetizers such as scallops. We tried the tulbot fish and chips family set. The fish was very fresh, u could tell they use quality stuff. The fries and other sides were just average tho, or below average. Id just come here for the fish. Its pricey but worth a try.
I like everything about this place, from the food to the staff to the tacky London tourist decor. You also get a choice of fish to go with your chips.
I honestly cannot count the number of times I've eaten fish and chips here and I cannot recall how many years it's been since I first stepped foot inside this place. Ordering is simple: walk up to the counter, look up at the menu board, choose what you want, pay at the counter, go find a table, sit down, and wait for your food to be brought out to you. The fish has ALWAYS been incredible: fresh, hot, crispy and juicy, and full of deep-fried goodness; ditto for the chips. The chips are cut fresh on the premises from REAL potatoes (!!!) and definitely not the frozen stuff from McCain's. Bottles of white and malted vinegar and tartar sauce are available on (most of) the tables and I love to drown my chips in both malted vinegar AND tartar sauce; ditto for the fish. Brit's also serves haggis (yes, that's right, HAGGIS) and you should try it just to say you've tried it. I know what you're thinking and, well, here's the answer: it has a very strong taste (think wild game but intensify it by a factor of about 40 or so) but it really isn't as "bad" (or gag-inducing) as most people would think. I'm not sure if it's in poor form to drizzle some malted vinegar or tartar sauce on top of it (I would presume that's a strict no-no for purists) but, meh, do what you will and do what you please; after all, they're your taste buds and your money. The haggis is presented in sliced form (almost like a hamburger patty, if you will) and is dipped in batter and deep-fried. Many British pub menu items round out the menu including mushy peas, deep-fried Mars bars, deep-fried pineapple rings, various sausages, pickled onions, etc., but the main attraction are, of course, the fish and chips. Honestly, folks, I can truly say you cannot find better-tasting fresh and hot and moist fish and chips than at Brit's. Honestly.
I've been to both locations, my hubby is a Brit and loves fish and chips. These are the best. Yes greasy, but most fish and chips are so we just ordered small amount. Will definitely come again!
The fish was great. It was hot – like the batter just came out of the oil and onto our table. Flakey. Moist. Seasoned well. Price-wise, I thought Brits was pretty good! I mean $11 for the one piece cod + fries + a side and a drink combo? That is so reasonable.
Gluten free options !. Having to eat gluten free leaves very little options for deep fried foods. I miss the option of some good old tastes I remember before having to eat gluten free. My husband and I were in from out of province and I found this on a gluten free search of places to eat. Gluten free options were endless! Batter was so light and crisp. Loved the deep fried pickles and zucchini! Husbands regular batter was also scrumptious. He had halibut and I had haddock. Portions were very generous. if you like deep fried food you have to eat here.

Gluten Free Friendly. Brits offers an excellent gluten free batter. I've tried the fish and mushrooms battered and both are fantastic. Very crunchy and flavourful, keeps well.
Cod for lunch - so fresh!. We had cod and chips - the fish was very fresh (no hint of fishy taste) and our meal was served piping hot. Good value for money and quick service. I like!
I don't understand why people complain about the grease.. You're ordering traditionally deep fried battered fish. If they let it dry off too long then it won't be fresh and everyone will complain about that. I'd rather have fresh fish thanks.

Authentic English Chippy. For those of you who have never been to England, or have never tried real English fish and chips, you might be surprised to discover that - shock and horror! - they can be a little greasy. And, what's even more shocking, is that the grease sometimes shines through the paper wrapping. This is how it's done. This is "fish and chips."
Having been born and raised in England and being an avid fan of the local chip shop, I can (with authority) say that Brit's is the closest thing to a chippy off the coast of Scarborough that Edmonton can lay claim to. And it's really very good.
The restaurant is a little pricey, but it's worth it. Their haddock is fantastic (not the cod, but what person who knows fish actually orders cod?) and their chips are homemade and delicious. Their gravy is thick, just like the Oxo gravy your mum used to make for her Yorkshire puds. The mushy peas aren't the best, but that's understandable, considering they're about as difficult to find in Canada as a warm January day.
Yes, maybe you don't like it. Maybe it's too greasy for you. But if you're looking for a lemon pepper crusted halibut with a side of roasted asparagus, this is clearly not the place for you.
For authentic British fish and chips and a chip butty on the side, go to Brit's.
Awesome. Great food, clean, and friendly service. I'll be back for sure
Best fish and chips in this province! Only ever done take out so can't comment on the service but this place could survive on food quality alone. A bit on the pricey side but totally worth it.
I love Brit's but so far downtown's location... Http://www.urbanspoon.com/u/profile/1765652/comments
I have a review for Brit's Southside location, and I just went to this location last night and even though it calmed my craving, the 2 piece Haddock fish and chips were MORE greasy than I was used to at the South location. Still yummy though! I'll keep in mind other reviewers' opinions that this place might just be inconsistent and I went on an "off" night.
GREAT. Great fish (I had cod) and chips - chips really are British style!! Fish was flavourful and perfectly cooked. Yummy! Will def go back. Don't know what took me so long to try it.
Outstanding and authentic. Really good fish and chips. The fries are fresh and delicious and the fish is always perfectly done and they have five or six different varieties to choose from. Their homemade tartar sauce is really good. Unlike some fish and chip shops in Edmonton, they have malt vinegar and real lemon wedges for seasoning. The mushy peas are tasty, too.
I'm not a huge fan of the deep-friend Mars bars, but that's not why you go to a fish and chip shop, is it?
The best. Its fantastic but i must reccomend ordering and eating there and not getting take out because the oil really sets and you lose the crispyness.
Close to what I got in Australia.. I lived in Adelaide Australia for 18 months and they have some pretty good fish and chips in that city. Brits os the closest thing I have ever found to what I had in Australia. The prices are fair given the size of the pieces of fish they serve, the selection of various types of fish is also great, at times they will even get in some more uncommon types better known in other areas of the world.
Yes it is greasy, it is supposed to be greasy, it is fish and chips. You are not going to want to eat this stuff every day. But if you want the most authentic fish and chips that Edmonton has to offer this is it.
I wish they would open one in Calgary, Westbrook mall perhaps since I live right there... There is nothing even close to this good for Fish and Chips in Calgary.
Good grub. I finally made it to Brit's and had halibut and chips. It was quite good. The fish was nice and crispy and the fries were tasty. The atmosphere is lacking, but at the same time, you don't need beautiful surroundings to enjoy something basic like fish and chips. They also feature home made chicken fingers and 2 deep fried desserts; mars bars and pineapple with toffee sauce. I sampled the pineapple and it was yummy. I will return the next time I need a fish and chips fix.
To die for!. Best fish and chips i have ever had. The mars bar is a like a tiny heart attack but well worth it!
Best heart attack I'll ever have 4/5. After seeing a lot of movies with a British scene or British people (Wimbledon ..?) eating fish and chips, and the fact that I've never had fish and chips, made me really want to try British styled fish and chips. With a name like Brit's Fish and Chips, I figured it was the best place to start.
First thing I noticed was the "expensive" price. It was roughly $8 for 1 piece of haddock, and $14 for 2. In my mind I went "Wow this is pricey". I was debating between one pieces or two pieces for quite a while, luckily, no one else was in line except for my friend. So I got a one piece haddock and he got a one piece cod.
I thought to myself that it had to be big or taste godly. Later I found out that the piece of fish was huuuuuge! It's just a giant piece of deep fried fish with fries. Although it was extremely oily and greasy, it tasted amazing, and fresh. It's one of those foods where you can't help but smile while eating because it's so gooooood. The fries, or 'chips' also tasted really good, I can't really explain the flavor, but they were noticeably different from most other fries. The only thing I didn't like was just how much grease and oil was in it. I had expected it to be really greasy, but it went beyond my expectations, and I only had one napkin!!
Ultimately, I find the food very tasty, and you get a lot of food for the value. I just don't recommend eating it more then maybe once a month, or else you will probably get a heart attack from the massive amount of grease in it, if not, you'll just get really fat.
Best F & C since Fishcross. Went there today for the first time with my family. It was the best fish and chips I have had in Canada, Australia, and Asia. The only F & C to beat this place is in Fishcross, Scotland!
Best fish and chips in town! Large portions are guaranteed to fill the biggest appetite. A 1-piece haddock and chips will run you about $14 and a 2-piece with chips goes for just under $20 :)
Worth driving across town for!!!
