Review Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen - Edmonton

Friendly staff and quick service. Chicken sandwich was average on flavour but was crispy outside and tender inside. Not as tasty as they used to be though. Pickel slice was perfect though, wish there was more. Mashed potatoes and gravy was the highlight of my meal. Hot and flavourful, regret not ordering a larger size. Scooped up the last of it with my sandwich, actually made the sandwich better.

Much MUCH better then the competitors- sorry kernel. Way less grease which leaves room for more taste!! I haven't eaten at a chicken joint in YEARS because of how greasy and tasteless others have been, bit had a company lunch and this place was chosen. Glad it was!! I will be a repeat customer

Chicken was hot and fresh like the other person said tasted really good no funny taste like the other Popeyes I reviewed (check my reviews and stay away from it because it tastes like windex) this Popeyes has awesome taste and it was really quick to get my food this time. the only reason I rate 4 instead of 5 is the staff or manger wasn’t super friendly didn’t get a welcoming vibe it seemed like he was annoyed and agitated not at me but I kinda feel it’s almost 8 so he might have been tired and stressed out idk his life story but other than that it was great and I wish him a happy week ❤️

Words cannot describe how awful and miserable the waiting times here make me feel.... Everytime I go here I have to wait (on a good day) at least 10 minutes... Today was the last straw when I came here to order one order of tenders when I ended up waiting 40 minutes inside the Popeyes? I guess you cant call it "fast food" because obviously the 'fast' is missing from this place. How do you end up making a customer wait 40m for one order of Tenders and not say a word or give an apology one time? At least the other times I came here they give me a warning that it would be 10m. Horrible customer service and slow employees.

Seems like I’ve been having all the fried chicken lately! Decided to mix it up and try Popeye’s this time to compare (and because they were open later than Mary Brown’s tbh). Got mild and spicy chicken, opted for dark meat. Selection was quite limited since I went in the last hour they’re open. Also got biscuits, gravy and fries. The fries were good, the spices give them an advantage over regular fries but they do get soggy very quickly. The chicken itself was mediocre, I would have preferred it to be more flavorful. What distinguishes good fried chicken is that the flavor runs deep beyond the coating and into the meat itself. Unfortunately, Popeye’s didn’t quite satisfy that. They may have overcompensated for the unmarinated chocked by adding a little too much flavoring to the skin which just ends up making it saltier than it should be. It does the trick for a quick late night meal BUT will not be one of my go-to places next time I crave fried chicken. That said, their BISCUITS ARE AMAZING! Perfect creamy texture and just delicious, must have if you happen to be at Popeye’s

i ordered 1 chicken sandwich and 8 chicken and took them over 20 minutes before i get my ordered. how can that be when there are about 6 or 8 people in the store. am the only one who ordered a chicken sandwich. their reason was they have to make it fresh. That is a very poor excuse and the store wasn't even that busy last night around 6 PM. i can go to burger joint order a fresh sandwich for less than 5 minutes and even see them make it for me.....<br/>

I am a fried chicken lover who wants to get out of the KFC phase.  I had Korean Friend Chicken to replace that a while back but that got expensive very quickly (It Dog, Seoul Fried Chicken, Coco, Pelicana, etc).  Mary Brown's felt greasy depending on the location you visit (Mayfield and Oliver are the two best I've encountered).  Popeyes is my true calling... the bang for your buck, the fresh, non-greasy, juicy pieces of chicken are well worth the wait.  Although there are only two flavours, I feel that it's enough.  I alternate between the original flavour and the spicy version.  Sometimes I just get half and half.  <br/><br/>One thing I would caution is that you come just for the chicken.  The biscuits, although good, are more like a palate cleaner and an obstacle to your chicken.  The fries were good but greasy and small portioned.  When I came here there was about an hour wait from ordering to actually sitting down to eat.  I'd say it was worth it.  I don't know what the lines are like now but just use Google Maps to see the "live traffic" at the storefront.  It must collect location data from every Google User's phone to paint you that picture.  Whatever, Google surveillance is better than other forms of surveillance.  Crowd-sourcing data for the win!

I  really had a bad experience with popeyes. I bought a takeaway on the 5th of August and drove back to Limpopo only to find that the chicken had this funny taste and smell. i was sold rotten dry chicken. so disappointing.

When Popeye's finally arrived in Edmonton months ago....I lined up for it. Place is good. Good seasoning on their chicken and you'd have to be boring if you didn't get the spicy version. Chicken has a good crisp and is usually moist. The biscuits though really outshine anything on the menu though, they're fluffy and delicious. Makes you wonder why KFC ever took them off the menu decades ago. Don't forget to get the gravy here, it's loaded with spice and it's good to drench over the biscuits. Good stuff all around.<br/><br/>Located in a strip mall on 17st and off of Whitemud, this place still gets pretty busy. Might be waiting a little for your food but it's worth it.<br/><br/>Sal says: Just Try it

Spicy chicken with biscuits all day long. Now that the line ups slowed and you are not waiting 45-1hr for food it becomes a much more pleasant experience. Love the biscuits here and the spicy chicken is so much more flavourful to the reg. Cajun fries are good but not sure I am a fan of the gravy. Either way...a bit on the pricy side but comparable to good fried chicken in the city. Given the choice between this and the other fried chicken chain hands down a winner. Although I would go to the other place for gravy.

I came here during its opening. The queue was never ending and it took almost an hour to reach the counter. It was one busy day! However the food was okay, nothing great.

Maybe not as good as the hype, but good fried chicken. The fries had a nice slight kick, I liked them. I liked the rice and red beans. Biscuits were decent. I didn't care much for the gravy. I'll go back.

I got their spicy 8 piece chicken and side of regular fries and a side gravy. The fries was $2.99 for a regular size, and it came with one of those small paper bag (like the small size they used to have at McDonald's), not even packed full. I will say for $2.99, it is a bit overpriced, for fries! Seriously! But the chicken though, super juicy and so much flavor, and the gravy? It's different but also so good! Not sure about dining in experience though. I read a couple reviews about it, but I mean... It is a fast food restaurant... So I will never expect anything at all. Overall, I will come back for chicken and the gravy, but unless they upsize the fries, feel like it's a bit of a rip off to get the fries!

I'm not crazy about fried chicken, I never have been. It's good don't get me wrong but I don't ever think of it as my go-to meal when I'm hungry. This thinking is now changed since coming to Popeyes. I tried this spot last week, mainly to say I've tried it (with it being a US chain starting to expand into YEG). It was busy even at 1pm, waited in a short line and ordered their 2pc combo (which came with a drink, a side and a butter biscuit). The chicken we pre-fried and stacked in large piles behind the cashiers which made me worried about the crispness and freshness. Upon my first bite my worried disappeared - it was perfectly crispy and impossibly juicy. It had to be the juiciest fried chicken I've ever had. Great seasoning and even better when I dipped it in the buttermilk ranch sauce I purchased as well. The Cajun fries were good - reminded me a bit of Arby's curly fries seasoning just not curly. The biscuit was buttery and flakey. All in all I was pleasantly surprised and now I totally understand why all the fuss about Popeyes in the US. Glad we have now two locations to grab this tasty chicken at!

Where to start... I heard all these great reviews of this place, so of course I had all of these high expectations! I got the shrimp tackle box. It was just ok... I was sick instantly unfortunately, literally had to rush my husband through his meal so we could get home so I could be sick 🤢. I wish the staff were more knowledgeable on their product and would share that knowledge. I want to come back because my husband said the chicken sandwich was good, so I would like to try the chicken and Cajun fries and then that should make my final decision on this place...

Went On a Saturday about 6:45pm, lined up to order for takeout. We were here one time before and although after a short wait we got a table it was not a pleasant experience as people were standing everywhere waiting for their orders and you did not have a pleasant dining experience when a stranger is standing 8 inches from your meal. There were empty tables this time but the lineup for pick up went outside. Looks like the crowded lineups are chasing other diners away from the tables. This time we decided to do take out and ordered the 16 piece meal along with a five piece tender platter. The order was placed at 6:59pm. We received our order at 7:30 PM. The meal is good although the large mashed potatoes with gravy on the side seemed very small to accompany a 16 piece dinner. There were ample onion rings and french fries. The worst thing about my order, and I didn't realize it (my bad) is that we were shorted on the order and were given a 12 piece chicken with 8 biscuits for the 16 piece price. I realized it in the middle of the night when I was calculating how many pieces each of my guests had eaten as I was a little surprised we only had two pieces left over! At the price of the chicken I am feeling ripped off to say the least.<br/><br/>

Service was good. Food didn't live up to hype. Two people for $20 isn't bad but I could get better food elsewhere. <br/>3/10 wouldn't Trade wife for more chicken

Probably the best fast food chicken that you can get in the city. Chicken is hot, fresh, and the skin is so deliciously crispy. Fries are ridiculously flavorful and their biscuits are on a level on their own, in a good way. Red beans & rice were tasty as well! Would recommend to anyone, can't wait to go back and try their seafood/Cajun poutine next time!

Finally walked inside ... 4th visit. Past trips the line was too long. It is by far the BEST Fried Chicken in Edmonton. Much better then KFC, Mary's Brown and that good awful Northern Chicken. $12 for 3 pieces, 2 sides and large drink ... higher $$ than the chains but much cheaper then Northern Chicken(gave them a 2 on all levels) .   Menu was limited compared to it's USA locations ... the chicken was Very Good but not Excellent like I had when I lived in the USA ... the coating and seasoning was different.

Crazy busy place.  If you want to drop by and grab something quick at dinner time its not likely going to happen.  Line up to the door during peak hours.  Despite that service is reasonably fast.<br/>As for the food - chicken in every form is great and the have a large selection of sides.  First visit or two its hard to pick but the biscuits and gravy are recommended.
Ah
The age old question for any lover of Fried Chicken… is it better than KFC? Hell, yes. Popeyes has my heart 100%. Completely blows out any other fried chicken in my eyes.<br/><br/>Since their grand opening, I’ve been at this location over a handful of times. Having had it already in the states, I knew what a treat it was going to be with one finally open in Edmonton. <br/><br/>Location wise, terrible. WAY TOO FAR. But you surely need to tough it out at least once to taste the magic in their chicken. The other downer is the line, even now there will be a hefty line up winding it’s way to the door. The line up was honestly 25-45 minutes depending on when you end up getting there. Barely a wait for the food, they have a pretty good system in the kitchen! Service was fast and friendly. <br/><br/>Food wise, Obviously the chicken is 5/5 HIGHLY RECOMMEND, plays every heart string possible, last meal worthy. <br/>You can’t miss the biscuits or the mash potatoes and gravy- fries are pree good too. (but if given the choice mash all the way) <br/>I had also got to try the rice, beans and the fried shrimp. Rice and beans were consistently mushy, so skip. The shrimp was not worth the price tag. <br/>Popeyes Canada also doesn’t have the sweet tea which is quite a bummer. <br/><br/>BUT COME FOR THE CHICKEN. IT’LL BE WORTH IT.

My girlfriend and I came here on Thursday for lunch since there was almost no line up anymore - we decided to if it a try.  We ordered the 16 piece family meal (mild) with onion rings, mac and cheese, cajun fries and biscuits. The total came out to just under $55.00 and the service was surprisingly fast for such a big order and busy place. The chicken piece were large and tasted quite good compared to other chicken fast food places. Although it is a bit pricey, if you are craving chicken, this is the place to go.

If you haven't been to Popeyes in the states, then here's your chance. Luckily for us, it tastes as good as it does in the states, the only thing I'm not fond of is the price. We Canadians always get price gouged like crazy when it comes to Canadian pricing. It's been less then 2 weeks since Popeyes has even been open and it's been crazy from what I've heard. I went at 5pm on a Monday and it was packed. The restaurant was packed to the brim, more people then a fast food restaurant can handle. I waited just under an hour. I live on the north side so coming here was a long ass drive for me even with the Henday, but it was totally worth it. <br/><br/>I got their 16pc family meal with 8 biscuits, mashed potatoes, fries and Cajun gravy, all for the low low price of $50! Talk about expensive, like I know the chicken is good but damn it's expensive. It's damn cheap in the states, they're known for their chicken + biscuit deal combos. KFC doesn't look that expensive anymore haha. But the chicken is damn delicious. Perfectly crispy and moist and the pieces they gave me were massive! Their famous biscuits are sure to please. Flaky, yet dense exactly how a biscuit should be. Their fries were meh, 1 minute longer in the deep fryer and it would have been better. Their mashed potatoes are nothing special, tastes like instant mash you get at a grocery store. But their Cajun gravy is to die for. Smother it on your chicken if you want a ride on the flavour train. I could drink spoonfuls of that stuff (I did). <br/><br/>Overall, go to Popeyes if you haven't. It'll for sure die down (hopefully). It's always nice to get popular restaurants/chains from the states once in awhile.
