The good is always delicious. I have nothing absolutely nothing bad to say about this place. If you have not yet been graced with the opportunity to eat here you need to change that asap.
This is my favourite place to go on Whyte ave for a quick, affordable, delicious meal. It's also just far enough off the busiest part of Whyte Ave so there is always parking close by if you are driving. If you like authentic Thai food, try it out. They will make it as mild or spicy as you want!
My friend and I went here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't hard to find and there was parking out front (paid to the city of Edmonton). You order from a board with pictures and descriptions near the cashier then pay and wait for your food. I had the red curry with beef and my friend had the cashew chicken. I like my food spicy so I ordered 'hot'. Turns out I could have ordered 'close to Thailand' without a problem so I will next time! Both of us enjoyed our meal very much. The owner/server was very kind and professional. Portions were also a good size. Recommended!
Comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Ordered Green onion cake, Thai iced tea, spring rolls, and paid Thai were all 10/10. Liked being able to request spice level. Friendly and promt service!
This place is without a doubt the best Thai in Edmonton! It's so good we eat here or get take out every week! We have never had a bad meal here, and the staff are the nicest, friendliest you could find! The menu is small but has all the best Thai dishes, and they also have some gear Asian beers! The red curry is always spot on, you can choose how hot to have each meal which is great...we've found that other places here don't make the food spicy enough but here you can select "welcome to Thailand" which is exactly what you'd get in Thailand! Delicious!!
Really enjoyed this cozy, casual spot along Whyte ave. We ordered the Panang Curry and Cashew Chicken -both were delightful and very well priced! Not too spicy either. Will return for the great value.
Family owned restaurant with amazing food. Cute space and perfect for a cheaper dinner on whyte. Great service! Would definitely recommend the tofu pad thai!
I'd give this place 6 stars if I could. Best dinner on my recent three-night trip to Edmonton, and it was all of $9.50. Basil (kra-pow) pork, 4 star hot. PERFECT complement of heat and salty goodness that kra-pow should be. Almost no cheap veg filler other restaurants use, just a few strips of well-cooked bell pepper. With a nice base of jasmine rice, this was absolutely, completely delicious, and cheap to boot. If I lived in Edmonton I'd be here weekly. No AC and zero ambiance, order at counter, but I'd sit on the ground and eat with my hands if I could enjoy this dish.
Pad Thai (Chicken). We ordered the Pad Thai - and it was a great experience. The noodles were perfectly cooked. The flavor was tasty and consistent. I'm very sensitive to flavors and this one was just right. Wait time was acceptable. I came in very hungry so I was not sure if the serving was small or just right. The one in-charge suggested additional condiments that might fit well with our preferred level of "spicy-ness".
My friends recently moved to the Bonnie Doon area, and we decided to go out on Whyte for some thai food. They’ve ordered from this place before, and it was pretty good, so we decided to try and dine-in. Kaengthai Bistro is located on Whyte ave, around 101 street. The outside of it is typical for what you’d expect to see from any place on Whyte. The inside is fairly small, with only a few tables. It’s nice and casual here, and not as formal and nice as the other Thai restaurants in Edmonton. They have a giant menu displayed, and you can customize the spiciness of your dish. The protocol is to order at the front and pay, and you can sit down and they’ll bring you your food. The service was friendly and prompt. The prices of this place is really good compared to the other thai places in Edmonton! Definitely a plus. I decided to order a beverage this time around. Usually I don’t order a beverage and just opt to drink water, but my friend from Red Deer insisted that I try some Thai iced tea. It comes with a nice layer of milk on top that you mix, and it creates a nice a smooth drink. It was actually quite refreshing, and it was one of those pseudo-hot spring days in Edmonton so it was really nice to drink on warm day. We decided to start off with the spring rolls and the Calamari. The spring rolls were okay, not great. I’ve definitely had better spring rolls. They are pretty thick, and though vegetarian, there didn’t seem to be that many flavours going on. I usually like vegetarian options for spring rolls, samosas and things alike because the meat alternatives are often single-noted. There was a lack of flavour. The calamari, however, was probably one of the best that I’ve ever had. Calamari is one of those dishes where it can either be really well done, or just completely overcooked and rubbery. These were seasoned well, and cooked perfectly. The squid was very tender and soft, and the accompanied sauce was amazing. The sauce was light and garlic-ey with a hint of swee
Tucked away past the hustle and bustle of Whyte Ave, Kaengthai Bistro is worth the walk east, just past the Strathcona tracks. The decor and menu is straightforward and simple, but the food more than makes up for it. It’s a bit of a mix between a take out and sit down restaurant. You order at the counter (menus plastered on the wall with pictures!) but the waitress/owner will bring out a pot of tea and your dishes so pick a table/booth to sit at while you wait...
AMAZING. My brother Mike introduced me to this little Thai rest on whyte ave last week, and the food is to die for:) I will keep going back as now it is one of my favs!!!!
I ordered take out and absolutely loved it. I had the Phanang curry (mild) with chicken and veggie spring rolls. The curry included rice. The curry had a good amount of veggies and protein, and the flavor was wonderful. This will be my go to for Thai going forward.
Great food. Their Thai red and green curries are amazing. Great price for great value. I just wish they were open for a longer duration. They open at around 5pm and close before 8pm.
The pad kea mao and green curry are delicious!!! Also tried the Tom Kha soup, which is sooooo tasty. You can choose the level of spiciness you want. My husband and mine favorite Thai place hands down!!
Delicious, unassuming place. Service was friendly and welcoming. The Pad Thai was amazing and hit the spot for my craving. Don't let the picture fool you, the serving was large with lots of chicken cooked to perfection. Will be back!
Our favourite Thai place! I've tried several things on the menu and the food consistently delicious. It's also always an extremely pleasant interaction order from here and pick up the food (I haven't eaten in since we first tried this restaurant during the pandemic). Highly recommend! Thank you for the great meals and service!
So delicious! Great customer service. 10/10 recommend and will be back soon!
We regularly get takeout and the food is always delicious! Best tom yum soup in the city, IMHO! The curries are excellent, and so are the stir fries. Try #15- Pad Prik Kaeng Tour. They do a good job with the veggies- always nicely cooked and not overdone. Also a good place if you like spicy food- unlike some other places they really make it HOT if you order it that way.
