Our group was up for the Dierks Bentley concert and stopped by the following night for supper. Apparently a new menu and it was all delicious from the start to finish, try the Corn Dogs for an appy!!
Our server was amazing (forgot her name, sorry, but she looks like a young Kate Hudson 😬) She was one of the best servers we have ever had! Thanks and see you again.
When I see a place who's ratings run the gamut like this I am always really hesitant to place a rating. It shows that there's just a really bad consistency issue with it and I have made the mistake of giving bad places a good rating because I caught them on a good day (cough, rocky mountian ice house, cough). All I can tell you is that my experience with malt and mortar was far better than expected. decor was cool (especially on the way to and in the washrooms) and the food was great for the price. I didn't have a mixed drink, which given the name seems to be one of their self appointed specialties. service was nothing exceptional but nothing disappointing either.
I'll need to go back to try this place out again and if the experience is different I will revise my review. who's to say if this is a good place with some bad days or a bad place with some good days but for my mileage I wasn't dissatisfied with my experience.
On a whim I stopped in after a show this weekend and loved it! Since than I have taken my hubbie there and he was impressed as well! Cocktails were incredible and the food for price was exceptional. So far I've tried the grilled cheese and couscous salad, Peking duck and fries as well as the butchers block. The Peking duck was surprisingly loaded with meat, usually they skimp out with speciality meats like this, but not here! Super duper! The couscous salad is really relaxed and the butcher block is one of the best In YEG, fully loaded and great value. Can't wait to go back hopefully they will have the gnocchi back in the menu, it's the only thing holding you out for a higher rating!
I have been here a few times now. Always great service and very friendly staff. The Duck Tatchos were fantastic, just the right amount of spice and flavour and the Faux Soup was a fantastic broth. My only disappointment was the Back Porch Tea, not that I don't think is was executed properly, just too sweet for may palate. All and all, fantastic night out. Keep up the good work.
I went on a Thursday evening with a friend. The atmosphere was very trendy and cool, I also loved the design on the inside. My friend got the Mac and Cheese and I got the Vietnamese sub. My friend's Mac and cheese was delicious. One of the best I have ever had, possibly because of the type of noodles in the recipe. My Vietnamese sub was also decent. It was extremely saucy though, so it got messy really quick. Over all it was nice for a quick eat.
Malt & Mortar is a trendy and bright spot to check out on Whyte Ave. Their strengths seems to lie in their appetizers and drinks. We had the wonton perogies to start and they were quite unique. We also had the chicken quesadilla and it was flavourful.
The prices were a little steep, especially for the cocktails and frozen drinks. Overall, I hope this spot develops its menu and continues to contribute to the Whyte Ave scene!
The price for some food was expensive for main dishes but for some items was really cheap for what you got (mosly the shareables). The yam fries were really good, especially with the dill dip. Deep fried picked chips were amazing. Jalapeño poppers were average and thought there could be mlre to it. However for a busy Canada day night on a weekend we were sat within 2 minutes. The restaurant was very nice, our server and person who sat us were friendly. Our drinks and food were made fairly quick. When we did finish our drinks the server was back quick and got us another one. Had zero complaints and was quitw surprised with this restaurant. The bathrooms were downstairs, a little confusing to find but were renovated and very nice. They also had a handicap elevator for disabled people to get down to. Would definitely recommend this restaurant!
Haven't tried other food yet which may affect the stars but service overall made a great experience.
Went on st Pattie’s day, very busy but our server was super nice! Can’t remember her name but she was a sweetheart. We ordered the nachos and the dirty fries. Fair WARNING these items are suuuuper spicy so if you’re a spice lover I’d recommend. I struggled eating them but man were they delicious!!! Definitely recommend this place
First time in years the Nachos stole the show. So good we devoured them. Ordered with extra cheese which was great. But they had a unique spice to them and were simply awesome.
Had a booth facing Whyte Ave. And the seating was very comfy.
Service was great and plenty of people here. Great atmosphere.
Great food and cute little patio. I’d recommend getting the mac and cheese with chicken or one of their salads. Regardless of it being super busy, the service was amazing
Plenty of choices from a masterfully designed menu. Food for 2 people came out in only 12 minutes. Staff is extremely friend
And the decor is very warm yet modern and stylish. Booths are super comfy i recommended sitting in them.
The atmosphere was great as was the food and drinks. Our server was lacking and giving us attitude. We weren't sure shy she seemed friendly to other patrons.
